The VVIP Circuit House in Pune is a 5-star GRIHA-rated eco-friendly building designed with traditional Maharashtrian architecture. It features climate-responsive designs, including natural light and ventilation, a 22kw solar energy plant, and sustainable materials, resulting in a 64% reduction in energy consumption. Although the construction cost was about 10% higher than conventional buildings, it offers long-term energy and resource savings.

2. Drawing from traditional architecture of Maharshtra, the new VVIP Circuit
House, Pune, makes a striking statement.

3. The focus was to design a climate-
responsive building with passive
strategies for thermal and visual
comfort, along with innovative active
strategies to achieve an energy
efficient green building.

4. The 1,34,381 sq ft complex was
designed with several eco-friendly
features. These include open spaces
for natural light and ventilation, the
use of glass for natural light, the use
of green products such as AAC
blocks, recycled ceramic tiles and
granite, a large water body in the
courtyard to cool the ambient
temperature, and a 22kW solar
photovoltaic renewable energy
plant.

5. The effective integration of green elements
in the project resulted in it receiving a
coveted 5 star rating from GRIHA.

6. 64% reduction in energy
consumption has been achieved
by replacing LEDs and using
high efficiency air conditioners.
100% of the external lighting is
done by 88 solar cells installed
on the roof.

7. Constructing this green building required approximately
10% more revenue than conventional buildings. But the
green building promises benefits in terms of energy and
resource savings.

8. The furniture used is from renewable and recyclable material and low volatile
organic carbons (VOC) paints. Life of the recyclable furniture has higher life cycle
than conventional furniture. This increases the green efficiency of the building.
