Talking Book For Education

E-learning Indicators (Benchmarking).
Presentation by Ian Phillips and Annie Fergusson. The Australian Flexible Learning Framework’s annual E-learning Benchmarking surveys, which measure the use, impact and uptake of e-learning within vocational education and training (VET) have been completed. The results are now available via the Flexible Learning Framework website. The surveys show that 29% of all VET activity now involves e-learning. This is up from 17% in 2006 and 6-8% in 2005. The growth in e-learning is primarily being driven by RTOs that were already using e-learning and extending it to more of their students. Nearly half of all registered training organisations still say they do no e-learning. Tune in to find out about the latest trends in the uptake and use of e-learning with data from the e-learning surveys of RTOs, VET students, employers and VET teachers and trainers. See the extent to which different training organisations are using e-learning, and catch up on what individual RTOs are doing to benchmark their use of e-learning.
E portfolios podiatric profession
1) The Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists implemented an e-portfolio called PebblePad to help their members better manage their continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.
2) They provided 500 PebblePad licenses to members and trained Union Learning Representatives to teach other members how to use the system.
3) While initial uptake was slow, extra licenses were purchased and training was improved. The e-portfolio helped members organize their CPD activities and prepare for audits, while also building their digital skills.

Bridging the Divide: High Technology in Low-resource Settings (MedBiquitous M...
Jhpiego is an international health organization that works to strengthen healthcare in limited-resource settings. They conducted a project to develop and implement electronic training materials for HIV care, treatment and prevention across three universities in Ethiopia. Fair use allows for the limited use of copyrighted works without permission for purposes such as teaching. It has become more important with the rise of digital video. Teachers can integrate short portions of copyrighted videos into lessons as long as it is directly related to the lesson and does not cause economic harm. Uploading full copyrighted videos would violate copyright law but short portions can be included in student-created mashups or remixes if they are transformative and do not excessively harm the original creator economically. Fair use is decided on a case by case basis balancing these factors.

The Virtual Labs project aims to provide remote access to laboratories in various science and engineering disciplines for students of all levels. It intends to develop a complete learning management system with tools for learning like videos, demonstrations and self-evaluation. Several IITs and other institutions are participating by sharing costly equipment and resources remotely to increase access for more students limited by time and location constraints. The project covers various fields like engineering, physical sciences and chemical sciences.

In recent years there have been amazing advances in consumer technology. The Mobile Learning Network (MoLeNET) initiative has enabled colleges and schools to harness some of this technology in order to modernise aspects of teaching, learning and training. The result has been improvements in learner engagement, retention, achievement and satisfaction.
This presentation draws on the experiences of approximately 40,000 learners and over 7,000 staff who have been involved in MoLeNET mobile learning projects during 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/2010.Efl rgs kew

In 2008, NSW DET began the implementation of a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) that supported a number of high profile initiatives including: Connected Classrooms; their deployment of SAP and the modernization of TAFE systems.
Most recently, NSW DET has used their SOA infrastructure to enable the rollout of 260,000 laptop computers to students, eliminating tens of thousands of hours of effort and providing an improved service to their students.
