VOLTE (Voice over LTE) is a mobile technology that allows users to make voice calls over an LTE data network. It provides higher voice capacity and quality compared to 3G networks. The first commercial VOLTE services launched in 2014 in Singapore and other parts of Asia and the world. VOLTE services are now widely available and mark an important step towards fully integrated 4G/LTE networks.

3. VOLTE-Voice over Long Term Evolution.
It is based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem
(IMS) Network, with specific profiles for control
and media planes of voice service on LTE
defined by GSMA.
VOLTE has up to three times more voice and
data capacity than 3G UMTS and up to six
times more than 2G GSM.
In Asia Frequency bands For VOLTE is 800,
1800 and 2600 MHz.
UMTS- Universal Mobile Telecommunications System
GSM- Global System for Mobile
4. In May 2014, SingTel introduced the world's first
commercial "full-featured" VOLTE service in
Singapore.
On 11 July 2015, SEATEL Cambodia announced
the world's first commercial 100% VOLTE
service without 2G/3G.
On June 30, 2016, YTL's YES launches 4G LTE
service to become Malaysia's FIRST VOLTE
service provider.
On 5th Sep 2016, Reliance JIO announced
commercial launch of 100% VOLTE service
without 2G/3G based services in India.

6. Currently we have following mobile and
internet communication technologies adopted
by different mobile companies in different
parts of the world.
1. GSM (Global System for Mobile)
2. CDMA ( Code Division Multiple Access)
3. EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global
Evolution)
4. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)
5. VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol)

9. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution
It is a 4G wireless broadband technology
developed by the Third Generation Partnership
Project (3GPP), an industry trade group.
It isn’t as much a technology as it is the path
followed to achieve 4G speeds
10.
11. The high-level network architecture of LTE is
comprised of following three main components:
The User Equipment (UE).
The Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access
Network (E-UTRAN).
The Evolved Packet Core (EPC).
12. The internal
architecture of the
user equipment for
LTE is identical to the
one used by UMTS
and GSM which is
actually a Mobile
Equipment (ME).
13. It is the hardware that is connected to the mobile
phone network that communicates directly
wirelessly with mobile handsets (UEs), like a Base
Transceiver Station (BTS) in GSM networks.
14. The MME (for Mobility Management Entity)
deals with the control plane.
It handles the signalling related to mobility and
security for E-UTRAN access.
The MME is responsible for the tracking and the
paging of UE in idle-mode.
Controls the high-level operation of the mobile
by means of signalling messages and Home
Subscriber Server (HSS).
15. Serving gateway terminates the interface
towards EUTRAN.
It acts a mobility anchor for inter 3GPP mobility.
SGW is responsible for
packet routing and forwarding,
buffering the downlink packets
downlink packet marking.
16. PGW terminates SGi interface towards the
PDN.
PGW is responsible for all the IP packet based
operations such as
deep packet inspection,
UE IP address allocation,
Transport level packet marking in uplink and
downlink,
accounting etc.
17. The HSS is a central database that contains user-
related and subscription-related information.
The functions of the HSS include functionalities
such as mobility management, call and session
establishment support, user authentication and
access authorization.
It also holds information about the PDNs to which
the user can connect.
In addition the HSS holds dynamic information such
as the identity of the MME to which the user is
currently attached or registered.

19. Peak data rate
– 100 Mbps DL/ 50 Mbps UL within 20 MHz bandwidth.
– Up to 200 active users in a cell (5 MHz)
– Less than 5 ms user-plane latency
Mobility
– Optimized for 0 ~ 15 km/h.
– 15 ~ 120 km/h supported with high performance.
– Supported up to 350 km/h or even up to 500 km/h.
Spectrum flexibility: 1.25 ~ 20 MHz
Reduced capex/opex via simple architecture
20. Two main technologies
1.Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
(OFDM)
2.Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Antenna
technology
21. We have a high rate (hence, large bandwidth) stream of
modulation symbols Xk (ex. QAM)
Needs to be transmitted on a frequency selective fading
channel
Stream Xk is divided into N low rate parallel sub-streams
Bandwidth of each sub-stream is N times narrower
Each sub-stream is carried by one subcarrier
Received must restore each Xk without interference from
current or previously transmitted sub-streams
23. Signal transmitted from multiple antennas (Multiple In)
Signal received by multiple antennas (Multiple Out)
• Receiver combines the received signals and optimally
combine energy from MxN channels
• Two main types of MIMO
Transmit Diversity
Spatial Multiplexing

24. Superior call quality.
Improved coverage and connectivity.
Better battery life
Video calling
High speed data transfer
TRUE 4G Experience
25. More Call Drops
Limited to certain devices.
No carrier interoperability.
Pricing Changes.
