The workshop focused on developing vocal techniques including pitch, rhythm, breathing, and dynamics. Participants discussed musical terminology and how it relates to creating different emotions. They then sang "Seasons of Love" from Rent, with some experimenting with harmony parts. While the participant understood terminology from past music education, their weakness was putting it into practice vocally. However, they achieved their goal of learning one part of a song and understanding terminology discussed.

1. Vocal Techniques
Focus: The focus of today’s workshop is to experiment with singing different types of song and developing an understanding of some basic music
terminology through practical work. A focus on pitch, rhythm, breathing and dynamics with projection. Therefore, my short target for this
workshop is ‘To learn 1 part of a song and try to understand and use some of the vocal terminology in my singing.’
Vocal Techniques: In today’s workshop, we started discussing our previous knowledge of musical terminology. During this we discussed what
pitch, rhythm, texture, dynamics, harmony, dissonance and other terms meant, and how they are used. We then discussed what
emotion/atmosphere can be created using different terminology. For example, a happy emotion can be created by using string instruments, fast
tempos and a major key. After that we picked a song and sang it as a group. We picked ‘Seasons of Love’ from the musical Rent and I rehearsed
singing the melody with everyone in the group. Others in the group experimented with learning harmony parts to sing with the main melody
line.

Strength: During this lesson, I realise that my strengthsin singingwere understandingtheterminology. This is only
because I did musicat school in early years. This will help me in the industry becauseI will be able to understandwhena
vocal coach or director is telling me what I need to doto improvemy singingsections.
Weakness:However, my weakness was putting it into practice. I understood the terminology because I can
understand terminology easier theatrically, but unfortunately struggle to practically use the terminology.
From my target at the start, I have achieved being able to sing 1 part of a song because I sang the melody of a song
with the rest of the group. Also. I understood the terminology we discussed in the lesson. I did struggle to use the
terminology, but I made an attempt at it all. To improve this, I will continue working on my use of the terminology
and get help from my peers and teacher to improve these techniques.
