1. Vocal technique singing workshop
The focus in today’s workshop is to experiment with singing different types of songs and
developing an understanding of some basic music terminology through practical work. A
focus on pitch, rhythm, breathing and dynamics with projection. I learnt tons of new
techniques and terminology in this one workshop. My weakness before entering was my
lack in knowledge when it came to singing techniques, methods and terminology. So
instantly I was chucked into the deep end, we had a go at singing numerous amounts of
songs including; ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ from We Will Rock You, ‘Helpless’ from Hamilton and
‘Summer Nights’ from Grease. Whilst singing these Miss taught me tons of new techniques
one main one was to pull my stomach in and roll my tongue up whilst delivering a high note,
she also helped with keeping me in key by improving my breath control I did this by injecting
particular breaths in different moments of each song. My knowledge grew more and by the
end of the workshop I think I had gained a strength in learning dynamics with projection and
what pitch I should be singing at. One thing I must focus on to continue this strength is keep
practicing different musical songs and asking for feedback/advice from teachers to insight
myself with constant fresh knowledge and new terminology, as I’m doing this my confidence
will grow as a singing performer.
