Description and analysis of
visual dissability
1
1. Initial assessment
 Benchmarks…
 Visual acuity
 Field of vision
 Contrast sensitivity
 Chromatic sensitivity
2
2. DV definition
 An eye is blinded when its visual acuity with
correction is 1/10 or its field of vision is of 10
grades.
3
3. Clasification
 BLINDESS: lack of vision or only light perception. They
learn using Braille sistem. They don't use light in order
to acquire knowledge, perception of light helps them
orientating though.
 DEEP VISUAL DISABILITY: difficulty to make wide visual
task. Impossibilty of doing tasks that require detail
vision.
 HEAVY VISUAL DISABILITY: possibility to make visual
tasks with inaccuracy, requiring time adaptability,
help and modifications.
 MODERATE VISUAL DISABILITY: possibility of doing visual
task with support and proper lightning.
4
4. Sporty classification
depending on the vision
grade
 B1. From people who do not perceive the light
with any eye to those who perceive the light but
cannot recognize the shape of one hand at any
distance or in any position.
 B2. From people who are able to recognize the
shape of a hand to the ones who have a visual
acuity of 2/60 or a field of vision with an angle
lower than 5 grades.
 B3. From people who have a visual acuity higher
than 2/60 to 6/60 or a field of view between 5
and 20 grades.
5
5. Methodology, how to
talk to...?
 RESPECT ACTITUDE:
 Ask before offering help.
 Avoid overprotection.
 Do no generalize the behaviour.
 COMUNICATION:
 Talk in a normal voice, slow and clear.
 Be specific and precise in the message.
 Contextualize.
 Avoid exclamations that can provoque anxiousness

 Use the person’s name.
 Introduce yourself.
 Let the other person know when we are leaving
 Show her if there are any other people nearby
7
5. Methodology, how to
talk to...?
 SPACE:
 Sonority, temperature, light, colour, references,
surface
 MATERIALS:
 Size, texture, safe, colour, contrast, on hand and
reachable.
