Kevin Durant s Selection Process
July 1st is the beginning of the pursuit. We all knew it was coming. Kevin Durant begins his selection
process. With the massive TV deal leading to the rising cap, Durant will have many options. He has
narrowed it down to six teams; the Thunder, Warriors, Spurs, Celtics, Heat, and Clippers. I have
dissected the candidates.
Thunder No brainer. Durant was drafted by the Thunder (Supersonics) number 2 overall in the 2007
NBA draft. Durant has blossomed into a superstar with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 7X All Star
described as the scoring prodigy has won the scoring title four times. The face of the franchise, Durant
is the leader and face of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Before he makes the decision (no TV special
needed), the Thunder will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KD in Green, charging out of the tunnel at the TD Bank North Garden to his first NBA title, 18th
franchise title, permanently stamping his title as one of the greatest if all time. This is the scrawny kid
that was chosen second to Greg Oden (gotta love the NBA draft) in 2007. Durant is not about wasting
anyone s time. JHe wants to go where he can lead his team and win a title. A place he can call home,
cement his legacy. No better place than the Celtics. The Celtics are an organization rich with tradition,
from Larry Bird to Bill Russell, no one can argue the deep history seeping through Legends Way
around the Garden. Currently, they have a solid young defensive team and the money to spend to
acquire one or two missing pieces. Durant has raved about the Celtics organization before. They are
definitely the dark horse in this game.
Heat All honesty, outside of the weather and no state tax I have no idea why he would choose to go to
the Heat. Whiteside is a free agent and will most likely sign elsewhere, Wade will likely be resigned
but is on the downside of his career, and no Bosh. The Heat are expected to enter free agency with
about $42 million in cap space, there would have to be some maneuvering on the part of the Heat to
sign Durant and still have a team around him that can compete for the title. No

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Character Analysis
In the essay, I am using the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer to argue that contrary to
common belief, happiness cannot be achieved through virtuous acts of power and honor. In Buffy the
Vampire Slayer, the titular character finds herself at the forefront of the fight against evil; this is
known to not be a personal choice but rather a prophecy indicating her as the chosen one . Throughout
the course of the show, the main character is caught in the struggle between good and evil and never
truly finds the happiness she believes she deserves. By examining the underlying meanings in the
television show, one might find that achieving happiness is more complex than simply being a good
and honorable person with a plethora of power. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having said that, power plays a major role in Buffy s struggle for happiness. At times, her power is
taken for granted, whether it be by her own actions or by those of her allies, and such an act weighs
heavily on Buffy. There are times throughout the series that Buffy questions her physical ability and if
she can truly trust her own strength. Just because Buffy embodies a powerful warrior doesn t
necessarily mean that she automatically is granted the happiness she is thought to deserve. It is often
the case that her power causes a strain on her personal life which results in an extremely unhappy
Buffy. So, while her power gives her the ability to do good and be an honorable person, it also adds an
unexpected problem in her life. In Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche explains that the gaze of a slave
is not well disposed towards the virtues of the powerful; he possesses skepticism and mistrust...against
everything good ...he would like to persuade himself that even happiness is not genuine there (3).
Buffy clearly resembles what Nietzsche was saying by not trusting her power and being skeptical of
its effect on her life. Buffy the Vampire Slayer often portrays the dark side of what is commonly
thought of as enviable. The power that Buffy possess is shown to be another obstacle that keeps the
character from truly being

Using Conditional Copula to Estimate Value Risk
Review: Using Conditional Copula to Estimate Value at Risk
ActSc 991 Project

1 Introduction
Value at Risk (VaR) plays a central role in risk management. By definition, VaR is the maximum
expected loss of a portfolio over a given time horizon with a certain confidence level. VaR can be seen
as a quantile on the lower tail of the distribution of portfolio returns. Although VaR is a simple
measure, it is not easily estimated.
There are several approaches for the estimation of VaR, such as historical simulations, the variance
covariance, and the Monte Carlo approaches. The first approach does not assume any underlying
distribution, whereas the last two approaches demand the joint distribution to be known, which
frequently assumed to be normal distribution. However, the deviation from normality could lead to an
inadequate VaR estimate. In this case, the portfolio could be either riskier than desired or
unnecessarily conservative.
The theory of copula is a powerful tool in modelling multivariate distributions be cause it does not
require the assumption of joint normality and it is a marginal free model. Copula have been broadly
used in the statistical literature. And due to its simplicity and convenience, one may be interested in its
application in the financial area.
In this paper I will first give a brief summary of the paper written by Helder Parra Palaro and Luiz

Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation System
There is a serious problem with our nation s roads and highways. I find myself repeatedly avoiding
trips to the city for this very reason, as I m sure many others do as well. This nerve wracking
congestion is even beginning to find its way into the suburbs and surrounding areas of large cities. It is
a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are
dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. To top it all off, this problem is getting worse
every year. The population of this nation is growing, which translates to an increase in cars on the
road. More people are moving to cities and the suburbs that surround them, ... Show more content on

The Clinton administration proposed a plan called the National Economic Crossroads Efficiency Act,
or NEXTEA. I personally think they spent more time on the name of this act than on the actually
content of it. This plan will increase the amount of money in the Highway Trust Fund, yet reduce total
spending by $500 million. And the purpose of that is?????? you got me, I guess there isn?t a logical
one. The number of federal programs and non highway projects will also be increased, thus diverting
even more money away from are already under funded roads and highways (Fay 4).
Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous skill at
naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little more
closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30 million for a
moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about it. A
moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that was used for roads
and highways (Henderson 1). It is clear that Washington is not capable of or willing to handle our
transportation problems effectively.
My solution is to not let Washington ?screw? this problem up anymore and let the states and private
investors handle

The Power Of Louisa May Alcott
As stated by intellectual Joseph Wong, influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our
perspectives (Young Ch. 6). Throughout history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact
their readers to encourage their audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May
Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in 1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors
views on the topics and issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott,
was a writer, lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent
woman and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an
independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark headed,
volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt, Alcott began to
work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a writer. As an open
minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and, through her
compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her ideals into their lives.
For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband, first titled The Brothers. The piece
featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was in charge of caring for a captured,
dying Confederate captain and had a mulatto contraband, a slave who escaped to the Union side,

Presenting Lectures On Teaching And Teaching
Presenting lectures are one of the oldest methods of effective teaching. (Mckeachie p.55) Power point
presentations were designed as an adjunct to lectures. Whether using lectures, power point or a
combination of the two, when the instructor is preparing for the presentation, there are certain
guidelines they should follow. Knowing your audience, keeping their attention, being aware of the
environment, and delivering a successful lecture are a few. Knowing your audience is a universal
element to teaching. Being creative is a great way to maintain your audience s attention. Finally, make
sure the audience has learned what was intended for them to learn. There are some cons to using
power point presentations such as technical difficulties, dependency, and commitment. While lectures
are known as one of the oldest ways of effective teaching, a significant amount of studies show there
are more effective ways. Adding power points to the presentation has increased the effectiveness of
the basic lecture. Power points allows the student to make a visual connection. They also allow
students a chance to catch up or follow along with the lecture. Some instructors give notes to the
students so they may follow along at the beginning of the lecture. By using power points, the students
will still have this advantage. Instructors are also aided with the power points, eliminating the need for
lecture outlines. Be aware that using power point presentation will change the learning

First And Second Laws Of Thermodynamics For Living Systems
1. Explain the consequences of the first and second laws of thermodynamics for living systems. The
first law of thermodynamics states that all energy is constant, which as a consequence, or result,
means that energy can never be produced or destroyed but rather it is transformed. During the process
of energy being transformed some energy is typically lost as heat. Another result of energy being
transformed is the increase of entropy, or disorder. The increase of entropy and loss of energy is
referred to as the second law of thermodynamics.
2. Explain how life is able to adhere to the laws of thermodynamics and accomplish the following life
processes:
a. Growth Living organisms are able to grow as long as cells grow which survive by several inputs,
such as nutrients and oxygen. When cells grow it is typically referring to amount, not size. Cells
multiply by mitosis or meiosis, which require energy to occur. The first law of thermodynamic is
applied in which energy from macromolecules, such as enzymes, are transferred for the cellular
processes can take place, and thus the organism increases in growth.
b. Increase in Order An increase in order would occur when coupling a process that increases entropy

the normal body temperature of 37°C (98.6°F) and if the body temperature increases or decreases at a
high rate, the enzymes will change and they will no longer be of any use to the body. Another example

Negative Effects of High Fructose Corn Syrup and...
The Negative Effects of High Fructose Corn Syrup and the Potential Alternatives that Can Replace It
Abstract: High fructose corn syrup (HFCS), like many other unhealthy constituents that are used in
foods, is cheap and retains the taste of the natural products it emulates, possibly even surpassing them
in many areas. However, experiments have shown that fructose is not an ideal sugar for human
consumption, not to mention the fact that the use of GM ingredients can be dangerous. In order to
prevent the continued consumption of this noxious sugar, food producers should use healthy
alternative sweeteners to prevent the further dependence on HFCS in our foods and drinks. With
dental, digestive, and other corporal problems such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High fructose corn syrup is spawned from a complex, multi step industrial process by which starch is
extracted from corn and converted with acids or enzymes into glucose and fructose through the use of
centrifuges, hydroclones, ion exchange columns, and buckets of enzymes (Center for Science in the
Public Interest para. 3). Still, despite the usage of so many enzymes, HFCS still has the same
sweetness and taste as sucrose from cane sugar and beet sugar and is cheaper than natural sugars it is
easier to transport and can be carried it in tanker trucks (Forristal para. 9). Thus, many food companies
refuse to stop using it because they can make more profit by using this cheap sweetener. A second
concern is that HFCS is a genetically modified product, and can be potentially dangerous for this
reason. The risks...include the potential transfer of antibiotic resistance genes into pathogens, the
uptake of DNA from GM foods by human cells or micro organisms in the gastrointestinal tract and
more indirectly health related ecological disturbances caused by the genes or dissemination of the
genes (Ho para. 2). Today, quite a lot of corn is produced through genetic modification, so those who
try to avoid GM foods should stay away from high fructose corn syrup since it is not only made from
corn, but is also processed with enzymes that have also been altered.

Philosophical Travel Journal
I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies.
Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a
renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich
Nietzsche.
The Republic
The first society I visited was that of Plato
s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by
dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that
Plato structured the renowned
Republic
. Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain
task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an
d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. The
army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it whenever necessary.
The soldiers
training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought up
with training both in the arts and in physical exercise,
Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was
very confident in its guardians, knowing full well that should war be declared, it would be re solved

Aboriginal Food Security Issues
Question 1
Higher Rates of Cancer
Indigenous Australians have higher lung, cervix and liver cancer rates than the rest the rest of the
Australian population however the rates of breast, colon, rectum, lymphoma, prostate and melanoma
are lower than that of the rest of the population. [1] The cancers that appear at lower rates throughout
the indigenous community often appear at later stages of life through the age group that acquires them
more frequently through the rest of the population. Due to the shorter life expectancy of the
indigenous community the rates at which these age related cancers occur will be lower as fewer
people are reaching the age where they begin to commonly take place. [2]

Question 3
Food security is a factor that is often a risk for indigenous groups as many groups fall into a bracket
that holds 5% of the population that have food security issues.[8] Proper nutrition is vital for good
health and wellbeing as well as a better quality of life. Therefore, it is imperative that proper nutrition
through foods is readily available to the entire population. If the food security situation continues to
worsen then there will be an increasing number of health issues that arise throughout the indigenous
community continuously.
Another factor that is a definite determinant of the health and wellbeing of the indigenous community
is wealth. The cost for regular general practitioner visits along with the cost of living can escape the
grasp of some of indigenous communities. There is a relationship between self reported poor health
and income and the lower the income the worse the self reported poor health becomes. [10] This, in
combination with the information mentioned in the first paragraph of Question 3 provides for quite a
grim outlook on the health prospect of the indigenous

Length The length of a wakeboard is extremely important because it needs to correspond appropriately
to your height, your riding stance and your weight. If a wakeboard isn t long enough for your body,
you may not be able to float it properly. Likewise, different wakeboard lengths conform better to
different riding styles. Shorter wakeboards are usually easier to spin and maneuver in the air during
jumps. On the flip side, landings may be more difficult because of the shorter surface area. A longer
wakeboard is good for beginners because it s easier to ride, but the heavier weight makes it more
difficult to maneuver when you re learning tricks and jumps. On the flip side, the increased surface

Undoubtedly, there are many concerns over global warming, which is largely con tributed to the

Essay on Jane Jacobs
The Uses of Sidewalks: Safety and Contact
Cities are generators of economic life and source of changes in the world. Thereby, Jane Jacobs in her
book The Death and Life of Great American Cities puts into relief the role of cities on the social and
economic levels, while denouncing the disastrous consequences of urban renewal programs. To that
extent, in chapters 2 and 3, she discusses The Uses of Sidewalks , arguing that over all people need
safety and trust in their city. Therefore, first she claims the necessity of keeping streets and sidewalks
safe because they are the vital organs of cities (29). Secondly, she argues that the functioning of cities
should be organized in order to foster human interaction in which casual public ... Show more content

In addition, she extends the idea of eyes upon the street showing that using and watching the street not
only guarantees the safety, but it makes the street more attractive. She argues: the sight of people
attracts still other people (37). Here, she points out the fact that people like watching other people and
activities around them. Nobody likes places where there is nothing to see or to do. Interesting streets
are attractive because we see different people, and different activities or businesses. In short, the more
a street is frequented, the more it is secure and interesting and vice versa. Safe streets and sidewalks
contribute to the economic expansion of the city and the social fulfillment of people. Then we can
conclude that safety is a one of primordial factor to the social and economic development of the city.
Approaching in the same direction of the importance of safety, Jacobs also discusses the theme of
confidence in the streets, which is trust. She mentions the concept of sidewalks casual public trust.
First, trust may evolve from human contact and interaction in public. Jacobs explains human
interaction in these words:
Cities are full of people with whom, from your viewpoint, or mine, or any other individual s, a certain
degree of contact is useful or enjoyable; but you do not want them in your hair. And they do not want
you in theirs either. (56) From interaction with fellows in public spaces people are inclined to trust

Commercial Fishing In New England
Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for
profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market
and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fish the
fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing
sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free
market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and
sustain commercial fishing.
The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with
current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by
private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private
decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by
competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is
not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions
on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free
market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would
not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless
America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will
not happen.
The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the
economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline.
So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. Although New England and
the US cannot have sustainable fishing because of their capitalistic values, as shown throughout
history their values may

Ben Amos s The Bird Of Prophesy
Much of Benin s ancient history is encoded in the beautiful art it prolifically produced. The
iconography of the clappers on which a carving of the Bird of Prophesy is usually attached, for
example, can only be understood in its own historic context. The bird is said to prophesy the future
and emit a distinctive cry foretelling good or bad fortune. Esige, a Benin king who ruled from 1504 to
1550, was once advised by the Bird of Prophesy not to engage in war against the Ibo people, who
posed a great threat to the kingdom. The king decided to ignore the warning, ordered the bird to be

figure of the bird, he does so on the beak, which is its vehicle for delivering prophesies. This ritual is

Because Esigie proved to be able to master destiny, his subjects automatically fall under his
protection. The king s dutiful subjects do not have to fear fate if they have earned the king s favor. The
land acquired after Esiege s victory was also tied to the image of the Bird of Prophesy. The king, who
had authority over fate and destiny, also brought wealth to his people. The bird became a symbol of

private organizations. One of the biggest questions still remains unanswered. Should the U.S.
Congress conduct an in depth assessment of Chinese cyber spying and consider imposing tougher
penalties on companies that benefit from industrial espionage. In this paper I will review china s cyber

cyber policy has embraced this idea. The Plan declared that in order for it to succeed, government and
the private sector must work together in a partnership. However since the regulation has been in place
it has failed to provide the security necessary to protect U.S. critical infrastructure from a cyber attack.
Even Congress has been slow to act regarding almost all aspects of cyber policy (Wolf, J. 12 July,

so omnipresent in our daily lives that they cross every sector of the economy. It is not surprising that
application of the laws of war to cyber attacks has recently been a popular topic in politics. Some have
even analyzed whether a cyber attack can constitute an armed attack, it can but, whether a cyber attack

Anti Federalism Government
The government impact lives daily by determining how each state operates individually meaning they
have direct influence on several aspects of life. There are different levels of government that create
laws to make sure citizens follow the rules. The levels of government include local, state, and federal.
Local governments govern counties, cities and towns. State governors rule over states and federal
governors rules the country. Local officials include mayors, city council members, city planning
commissioners, and school board members. Each state has its own public officials. The citizens of the
public have great influence on local governments. The conduct of local officials is said to be corrupt

The framers did not want the government to have control thus federalism was created. Federalism is
the sharing of power between national and state governments. In their attempt to balance order with
liberty, the Founders identified several reasons for creating federalist government: to control conflict,
to allow citizens rights and responsibilities, and the distribution of resources (Synnott). There were
some who were against federalism, they believed the state should have the right to decide its own
laws. Anti Federalist did not want a national government to have the power over the states. Federalism
today differs from federalism created by the founding fathers. The national government has become
too powerful but more and more state governments are taking their power back. Today people still
argue about which laws should be federal and which should be for states. When the national
government creates a law not all states agree with that law therefore they believe they should decide if
the citizens of that state should follow that

Essay On Social Media And Self Esteem
Whether you are thin or curvy, tall or short, young or old, everyone has been unhappy with how they
look at one point in their lives. This is especially seen in teens and young adults, who are transitioning
into a new phase of life. While we have much better therapy and the topic of self confidence and self
worth is talked about more openly than it ever has been before, we still struggle with ourselves. Why?
One reason could be our phones. The entire world is at our beck and call. Every Instagram post or
YouTube video we see, we compare ourselves whether we try to or not. While social media itself does
not cause low self esteem, it has every characteristic necessary in order to do so. In an article by the
Dove Self Esteem Project and Parent Zone corporation, the words of Claire Mysko are quoted: Social
media creates an environment where disordered thoughts and behaviors really thrive [...] and [social
media, while giving young girls the validation they want] also serves as a catalyst for more insecurity.
The topic of self love is not talked about as much as it should. While it is a more open topic than it has
ever been before, social media really is not helping improve the way we view ourselves, because there
is always a more muscular, thin, tan, beautiful person on the internet. As social media and technology
become a larger and larger part of everyday life, so does the way we think about ourselves. An article
written by Caroline Knorr, a writer for CNN, states that 35

Lisfranc de St. Martin who described the nature of the injury. Causes of Lisfranc injury can either be
direct or indirect. Direct injuries result to crushing of the foot such as someone landing on his foot
from a fall, heavy objects falling to a foot and foot being ran over by a car. Indirect injuries usually
involved twisting of the foot such as the rotational force on a downward pointing forefoot. Several

present. Diagnosis of the injury are: X ray. Abnormalities and deformity of the midfoot should be
obvious during x rays. There will be a space between the base of the first and second toes. Magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI). It is not usually a requirement to undergo an MRI to diagnose a Lisfranc
injury though it helps show a better image of the soft tissues on your foot just like the tendons.
Computerized tomography scan (CT scan). Just like MRI, CT scan may also not be required by your
doctor to diagnose a Lisfranc injury though it provides a more detailed view of your foot compared to
x rays. CT scans are usually suggested when surgical operations are needed to help plan the surgery as
it shows the extent of the injury as well as the number of joints it has affected.

The Types Of Support That An End User May Require
Chapter 2: Literature Review
The four types of support that an end user may require are general support, functional support, data
support, and purchasing support. General support includes networks, software, hardware, and other
training related support (Govindarajulu, 2014). General Support is the only form of support that will
be included in this study. A university will on average work only with general support for their users.
While some authors (Gibson, 2014, for example) focus on a general overview of help desk
requirements, others PChelps (2008) look more closely at different aspects including costs, where
users get their support (Govindarajulu, 2014), and how to evaluate a help desk (Sheehan, 2007). This
case study will take a quantitative approach to evaluation of a help desk instead of a qualitative as
other researchers have conducted. This literature review will discuss how the help desk affects a
company s reputation, the costs it has to a company, how a help desk can be evaluated, and how to
improve a help desk s customer service.
Purpose of Help Desk
The purpose of a help desk is to provide internal users (employees or students) and external users with
technical support. This support is optimizing computer software, network troubleshooting, virus
removal, password resets, and any other types of computer related problems that the user may
encounter (Gibson, 2014). The help desk staff is generally the most likely to be contacted by users,

Calculus Program Entry Essay
There is a metaphor about math education which posits that doing math is like painting, and yet most
students focus on whitewashing fences rather than examining pieces by the great masters of art. Up
until taking calculus in high school, my thoughts about math rarely strayed beyond fence painting.
However, I was lucky enough to get a passionate high school calculus teacher who made it a goal to
introduce us to Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and the like. From such introductions I began to build my
own sense of mathematical curiosity and build internal motivation to explore deeper problems than
fence painting. As a result, I have come to a place in life where I believe that making a career of math
research will be the true path to my own eudaimonia. Through my conversations with the
aforementioned calculus teacher I was shown work in real analysis and probability. I understood none
of it at the time, but was able to take away that the work I was doing in my calculus and statistics
classes were merely the tips of icebergs that I am glad to be descending upon now. I was also
introduced to more exotic fields like knot theory and chaos theory. Chaos theory was the field that
interested me the most, and so we would often talk about this during class downtime. What got me
seriously interested was the notion of non integer dimensions. ... Show more content on

Morality And Ethical Behaviour Within The Human Population
Morality and ethical behaviour within the human population is vital in order to conceive a healthy
society. Although throughout history, morals and ethics have been used interchangeably, they are in
fact not one in the same. Morality is within oneself and develops over a period of time as a result of
meeting and resolving moral issues as they come forth, whereas ethics is essentially a moral compass,
or a set of rules one follows throughout the course of their life (Crebert, Patrick, Cragnolini, 2004).
From a personal perspective, I believe each individual has several distinguishing moral codes they live
by, even if they may not distinctly know it. I personally have several moral foundations that I live by,

The Socialization Of Masculinity
Masculinity is a subject that has been discussed in our general public frequently. Many ponder being
manly, and on the off chance that we can truly dole out a definition to such an uneven term. Singular

Reaction time is the time between the presentation of a stimulus and the initiation of the muscular

Who Is Truly Evil In Lord Of The Flies
For centuries, philosophers have debated the question of whether man is truly evil. William Golding
strikes this question in his highly realistic novel, Lord of The Flies. The story is set in a tropical island
during World War 2 when a plane is shot down holding British schoolboys. No adults survive and they
are left to govern themselves until they are rescued. Through Jack, Golding demonstrates what will
happen to man when law and order are taken away, and that ultimately man will choose safe gray over
civility. In the beginning, Jack shows up as head boy of the choir. Jack thinks he should lead the boys
on the island because he already leads his choir. I ought to be chief, because I m chapter chorister and
head boy, (Golding 22). This is the first time we see Jack s wanting of power. Jack has led before and
sees how much power and strength comes with it. This makes him want more, rather than having a
civil vote, and choose who the leader should be. He becomes power hungry and always wants more.
This, Golding proves that man will choose savagery over order and decorum. ... Show more content

Jack is so power hungry, he does not like it when people try to put him in his place. When they do try
to bring Jack down to his place, Jack automatically responds with violence. In this way, Golding
proves that Jack had to give up things to feed his need for

Malcolm X, A Civil Right Activist And Powerful Black Leader
In the influential and provoking essay Learning to Read (1965), Malcolm X, a civil right activist and
powerful black leader, narrates his story on how books transformed his life forever into the realm of
human rights. Incorporating sequential narrative and social analysis, he explains his methodology in
attaining literacy and how this process influences him to espouse black separatism and resent white
people, while providing historical fact and jarring criticism in his arguments. Using first person
narrative, Malcom advances through the story by pointing each progression in detail, while using
provocative diction in order to evoke emotional response without forsaking essential argumentation in
his writing. Malcolm conveys his writing to an ostensibly general audience, although he purposely
focuses more on white people in order to unleash his anger and criticism.
Malcolm begins his auto biography in his frustration of not being able to express his thought and even
calls himself [dysfunctional] (Malcolm 2) to demonstrate his initial helpless condition. To make it
worse, as if to appeal to the reader s pathos, he was situated inside a prison. In his helplessness, he
reveals his innocent motivation of how he starts to attain literacy; by mere jealousy to another people.
He describes his own effort in an exciting tone, exhausting every inch of the dictionary by copying it.

Throughout the first act of the film, just by being introduced to Sarah s family the audience can see
that Sarah is a stubborn and selfish character. However, as Sarah is first implied as being elaborate and
mean we also see Sarah s considerate side come out as she begs the Goblin King to give Toby back to
her.
The first character from the labyrinth Sarah is introduced to is the Goblin King Jareth himself, who is
the antagonist in the film. Jareth takes Toby as he believes this is what Sarah wants.
Throughout the film we see that Sarah is drawn to the character of Jareth, however she also shows
annoyance towards the character. We see she initially has an connection to Jareth at the start of the
film as she s reading the book. Jareth gives Sarah the opportunity to grow courage and heroic
characteristics throughout the film. He does this by taunting her. We see that Sarah s character develop
as she gains courage and becomes heroic in the last act when she defeated Jareth. Jareth says at the
beginning of the second act when they are both outside the labyrinth Go back to your room, play with
your toys. When Jareth says this, it suggests Sarah is childish. However this can also be perceived as
Jareth taunting Sarah into taking up his challenge of the labyrinth. We then see Sarah pluck up the

William Shakespeare Controversy
Up until a decade ago, there was no questioning the famous playwright William Shakespeare s
authorship. Now, theorists use the lack of documents on Shakespeare s life and doubt about how a
commoner like Shakespeare could have written his famous plays to argue against Shakespeare s
authorship. While arguments for other candidates may be compelling, no concrete proof exists for any
one candidate that provides a clearer picture of a literary genius than Shakespeare himself. Those who
support Shakespeare as the best candidate and true author emphasize the fact that the body of evidence
that does exist points to Shakespeare, and no one else, as the author of his works (Pruitt). The
established documented facts: Shakespeare s education, the appearance of his name on not only his
published plays, but around eighty other writer s works as a form of tribute or homage in an era where
providing the author s name was not customary, his familiarity with acting, setting the stage, and
orchestration of the action, and his life events which are reflected in the mood of his writing give
William Shakespeare holds the strongest claim to the works that bear his name.
From the historical evidence available on William Shakespeare s life, it is known that he was born in

Antiheroes In Watchmen
Watchmen by Alan Moore is a graphic novel, it tells the story of groups of superheroes in the 1980 s.
The watchmen have a very dark tone with characters that are seen as antiheroes. The reason that the
superheroes in the watchmen are antiheroes is because they do not focus on saving people and helping
others like regular heroes do. They seem to care more about themselves than protecting the citizens.
Every superhero represents a different attitude and are linked with each other strongly and every one
of them is a creation of fatalism or slightly, of intention. Watchmen is set to a plan where superheroes
were related to the real and current world situations, to looks like the present problems of the worlds,
politically and socially. In Watchmen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Batman, yet what does he do with it? He sits in his home and leads a below average not exactly
satisfactory regular life. He s exhausting and the vast majority of his social communications are
incredibly hindered. Although being a standout amongst the most effective characters in this whole
anecdotal world, Daniel lives in his own particular anecdotal world one where he s defenseless and
barren. Avoidant Personality Disorder (APD) is portrayed by a universal example of social limitation,
sentiments of deficiency, compelling affectability to contrary assessment, and shirking of social
collaboration. APD sufferers envision themselves to be incompetent, unappealing, disliked,
undesirable or generally just not up to the difficulties of life when in actuality, they have no such

that they re frequently fit for tremendous exhibitions in every one of the enclosures they envision
themselves as low working in once they move beyond their stage dread. Laurie for all intents and

Privacy Is The Appropriate Word Of Privacy From A German...
Privacy in German Culture Dignity over liberty is the appropriate phrase to depict the essence of
privacy from a German perspective. Stemming from roots dating back to the mid 12th Century,
Germans erected a common ideology of individual realization that has become a universal standard of
its people. Unlike many Western civilizations, Germans digest privacy as a personality upholding
construct, rather than an oppressive act of rights enforced by the government. Anything that seemingly
inhibits or defiles one s personal character is considered an invasion of privacy. While being especially
relevant during the divided prowess of the Berlin wall, East and West Germany displayed an intrusion
of privacy that was exclusive to its style of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both sects had negative preconceived notions of the other which increased the overall state of
paranoia. As a result, both parties performed similar, yet, very different infractions of privacy. In
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck s film The Lives of Others, gives the audience a fresh perspective
of privacy from an Eastern Perspective. This film takes place in 1983 East Berlin. Weisler, a member
of the Stasi forces, was assigned to spy on a distinguished playwright, Georg Dreyman. While
Dreyman currently placed under government suspicion, Weisler is ordered to dig deeper for more
information about his personal life. While Dreyman was away, Wisler and his forces broke into his
apartment and bugged every room. Afterwards, Wisler threatens Dreyman s neighbor to not tell
anyone what she saw. If she does, she may be subject to dire consequences. This scene is especially
important because exemplifies the amount of power the Stasi had during that time. If there is any
suspicion about a particular individual, there would be relentless efforts of which to obtain
information. Another example of this occurrence, is when Weisler loses his job as a spy and is forced
to work in the mailroom. Wisler and his colleagues are primarily responsible for checking every letter
that comes through Eastern Germany. Anything deemed as a potential threat would be thrown out or
reported immediately. This scene illustrates the level of

The Brain Is The Most Important Components Of The Human Brain
The brain is the greatest, the most fascinating and the most complex organ of the human been.
According to Dr. Wolfe, the human brain weighs about three pound. Humans do not feel its weight
because it is full of fluids and it is floating. The human brain consumes ten times more oxygen of all
the humans body parts and 25% of the total energy produced by the body. It is not the largest part of
the humans body, but it is one of the most important parts. Through the years educators were like
doctors giving certain treatment to their patients without being sure what the disease was. If the first
treatment given did not work they gave another treatment and so on. Nowadays technology has help to
study how animals and humans brain works. It also has helped to discover how and where information
is manipulated within the brain during the learning process. To discover how the brain works, the
brain was divided in many parts. According to the book, the brain structures are cerebellum, brain
stem, temporal lobe, broca s area, frontal lobe, motor cortex, sensory cortex, parietal lobe, wernicke s
area, occipital lobe, hypothalamus and pituitary gland (Bohlin, Durwin, Reese Weber, 2012). The
major lobes of the brain are frontal, occipital, parental and temporal and each of them has different
functions during the learning process. Frontal lobe is responsible for higher standard thinking.
According to the book, during the learning process, frontal lobe controls attention, creative

Define Heroism Research Paper
What would you define heroism as? There has been a lot of controversy over that question and what
qualities go into being a hero. Heroism can be defined by anyone from any background who think of
others before themselves, and preform the act expecting no recognition. A hero can be anyone around
you. Nothing matters but what is inside the person. Philip Zimbardo states, We want to democratize
the notion of heroism to emphazise that the most heroes are ordinary people; it s the act that s
extraordinary. It does not matter if someone is black, white, male or female. It is how the person s
personality and morals are making them stand out in the crowd. A person has to have certain traits to
become a hero. A trait a hero must have is that they

kickbacks are prohibited.
Further the offering of foreign junkets and the purchasing of inspection certificates on the black

With the massive TV deal leading to the rising cap, Durant will have many options. He has narrowed it down to six teams; the Thunder, Warriors, Spurs, Celtics, Heat, and Clippers. I have dissected the candidates. Thunder No brainer. Durant was drafted by the Thunder (Supersonics) number 2 overall in the 2007 NBA draft. Durant has blossomed into a superstar with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 7X All Star described as the scoring prodigy has won the scoring title four times. A place he can call home, cement his legacy. No better place than the Celtics. The Celtics are an organization rich with tradition, from Larry Bird to Bill Russell, no one can argue the deep history seeping through Legends Way around the Garden. Currently, they have a solid young defensive team and the money to spend to acquire one or two missing pieces. Durant has raved about the Celtics organization before. They are definitely the dark horse in this game. Heat All honesty, outside of the weather and no state tax I have no idea why he would choose to go to the Heat. Whiteside is a free agent and will most likely sign elsewhere, Wade will likely be resigned but is on the downside of his career, and no Bosh. The Heat are expected to enter free agency with about $42 million in cap space, there would have to be some maneuvering on the part of the Heat to sign Durant and still have a team around him that can compete for the title. • 3. Buffy The Vampire Slayer Character Analysis In the essay, I am using the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer to argue that contrary to common belief, happiness cannot be achieved through virtuous acts of power and honor. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the titular character finds herself at the forefront of the fight against evil; this is known to not be a personal choice but rather a prophecy indicating her as the chosen one . Throughout the course of the show, the main character is caught in the struggle between good and evil and never truly finds the happiness she believes she deserves. By examining the underlying meanings in the television show, one might find that achieving happiness is more complex than simply being a good and honorable person with a plethora of power. At ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having said that, power plays a major role in Buffy s struggle for happiness. At times, her power is taken for granted, whether it be by her own actions or by those of her allies, and such an act weighs heavily on Buffy. There are times throughout the series that Buffy questions her physical ability and if she can truly trust her own strength. Just because Buffy embodies a powerful warrior doesn t necessarily mean that she automatically is granted the happiness she is thought to deserve. It is often the case that her power causes a strain on her personal life which results in an extremely unhappy Buffy. So, while her power gives her the ability to do good and be an honorable person, it also adds an unexpected problem in her life. In Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche explains that the gaze of a slave is not well disposed towards the virtues of the powerful; he possesses skepticism and mistrust...against everything good ...he would like to persuade himself that even happiness is not genuine there (3). Buffy clearly resembles what Nietzsche was saying by not trusting her power and being skeptical of its effect on her life. Buffy the Vampire Slayer often portrays the dark side of what is commonly thought of as enviable. The power that Buffy possess is shown to be another obstacle that keeps the character from truly being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Using Conditional Copula to Estimate Value Risk Review: Using Conditional Copula to Estimate Value at Risk ActSc 991 Project Changwu (Allen) Chen April 14, 2014 1 1 Introduction Value at Risk (VaR) plays a central role in risk management. By definition, VaR is the maximum expected loss of a portfolio over a given time horizon with a certain confidence level. VaR can be seen as a quantile on the lower tail of the distribution of portfolio returns. Although VaR is a simple measure, it is not easily estimated. There are several approaches for the estimation of VaR, such as historical simulations, the variance covariance, and the Monte Carlo approaches. The first approach does not assume any underlying distribution, whereas the last two approaches demand the joint distribution to be known, which frequently assumed to be normal distribution. However, the deviation from normality could lead to an inadequate VaR estimate. In this case, the portfolio could be either riskier than desired or unnecessarily conservative. The theory of copula is a powerful tool in modelling multivariate distributions be cause it does not require the assumption of joint normality and it is a marginal free model. Copula have been broadly used in the statistical literature. And due to its simplicity and convenience, one may be interested in its application in the financial area. In this paper I will first give a brief summary of the paper written by Helder Parra Palaro and Luiz Koodi Hotta [1]. Then I will discuss the key results presented in the paper ... It is a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous skill at naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little more closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30 million for a moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about it. A moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that was used for roads and highways (Henderson 1). Throughout history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in 1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer, lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt, Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and, through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her ideals into their lives. For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband, first titled The Brothers. The piece featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was in charge of caring for a captured, dying Confederate captain and had a mulatto contraband, a slave who escaped to the Union side, ... • 7. Presenting Lectures On Teaching And Teaching Presenting lectures are one of the oldest methods of effective teaching. (Mckeachie p.55) Power point presentations were designed as an adjunct to lectures. Whether using lectures, power point or a combination of the two, when the instructor is preparing for the presentation, there are certain guidelines they should follow. Knowing your audience, keeping their attention, being aware of the environment, and delivering a successful lecture are a few. Knowing your audience is a universal element to teaching. Being creative is a great way to maintain your audience s attention. Finally, make sure the audience has learned what was intended for them to learn. There are some cons to using power point presentations such as technical difficulties, dependency, and commitment. While lectures are known as one of the oldest ways of effective teaching, a significant amount of studies show there are more effective ways. Adding power points to the presentation has increased the effectiveness of the basic lecture. Power points allows the student to make a visual connection. They also allow students a chance to catch up or follow along with the lecture. Some instructors give notes to the students so they may follow along at the beginning of the lecture. By using power points, the students will still have this advantage. Instructors are also aided with the power points, eliminating the need for lecture outlines. Be aware that using power point presentation will change the learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. First And Second Laws Of Thermodynamics For Living Systems 1. Explain the consequences of the first and second laws of thermodynamics for living systems. The first law of thermodynamics states that all energy is constant, which as a consequence, or result, means that energy can never be produced or destroyed but rather it is transformed. During the process of energy being transformed some energy is typically lost as heat. Another result of energy being transformed is the increase of entropy, or disorder. The increase of entropy and loss of energy is referred to as the second law of thermodynamics. 2. Explain how life is able to adhere to the laws of thermodynamics and accomplish the following life processes: a. Growth Living organisms are able to grow as long as cells grow which survive by several inputs, such as nutrients and oxygen. When cells grow it is typically referring to amount, not size. Cells multiply by mitosis or meiosis, which require energy to occur. The first law of thermodynamic is applied in which energy from macromolecules, such as enzymes, are transferred for the cellular processes can take place, and thus the organism increases in growth. b. The Negative Effects of High Fructose Corn Syrup and the Potential Alternatives that Can Replace It Abstract: High fructose corn syrup (HFCS), like many other unhealthy constituents that are used in foods, is cheap and retains the taste of the natural products it emulates, possibly even surpassing them in many areas. However, experiments have shown that fructose is not an ideal sugar for human consumption, not to mention the fact that the use of GM ingredients can be dangerous. In order to prevent the continued consumption of this noxious sugar, food producers should use healthy alternative sweeteners to prevent the further dependence on HFCS in our foods and drinks. With dental, digestive, and other corporal problems such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High fructose corn syrup is spawned from a complex, multi step industrial process by which starch is extracted from corn and converted with acids or enzymes into glucose and fructose through the use of centrifuges, hydroclones, ion exchange columns, and buckets of enzymes (Center for Science in the Public Interest para. 3). Still, despite the usage of so many enzymes, HFCS still has the same sweetness and taste as sucrose from cane sugar and beet sugar and is cheaper than natural sugars it is easier to transport and can be carried it in tanker trucks (Forristal para. 9). Thus, many food companies refuse to stop using it because they can make more profit by using this cheap sweetener. A second concern is that HFCS is a genetically modified product, and can be potentially dangerous for this reason. The risks...include the potential transfer of antibiotic resistance genes into pathogens, the uptake of DNA from GM foods by human cells or micro organisms in the gastrointestinal tract and more indirectly health related ecological disturbances caused by the genes or dissemination of the genes (Ho para. 2). Today, quite a lot of corn is produced through genetic modification, so those who try to avoid GM foods should stay away from high fructose corn syrup since it is not only made from corn, but is also processed with enzymes that have also been altered. ... To that extent, in chapters 2 and 3, she discusses The Uses of Sidewalks , arguing that over all people need safety and trust in their city. Nobody likes places where there is nothing to see or to do. Interesting streets are attractive because we see different people, and different activities or businesses. In short, the more a street is frequented, the more it is secure and interesting and vice versa. Safe streets and sidewalks contribute to the economic expansion of the city and the social fulfillment of people. Then we can conclude that safety is a one of primordial factor to the social and economic development of the city. Approaching in the same direction of the importance of safety, Jacobs also discusses the theme of confidence in the streets, which is trust. She mentions the concept of sidewalks casual public trust. First, trust may evolve from human contact and interaction in public. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market and the damage it does to resources. To make commercial fishing sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. General support includes networks, software, hardware, and other training related support (Govindarajulu, 2014). General Support is the only form of support that will be included in this study. A university will on average work only with general support for their users. While some authors (Gibson, 2014, for example) focus on a general overview of help desk requirements, others PChelps (2008) look more closely at different aspects including costs, where users get their support (Govindarajulu, 2014), and how to evaluate a help desk (Sheehan, 2007). This case study will take a quantitative approach to evaluation of a help desk instead of a qualitative as other researchers have conducted. This literature review will discuss how the help desk affects a company s reputation, the costs it has to a company, how a help desk can be evaluated, and how to improve a help desk s customer service. Purpose of Help Desk The purpose of a help desk is to provide internal users (employees or students) and external users with technical support. This support is optimizing computer software, network troubleshooting, virus removal, password resets, and any other types of computer related problems that the user may encounter (Gibson, 2014). • 29. Calculus Program Entry Essay There is a metaphor about math education which posits that doing math is like painting, and yet most students focus on whitewashing fences rather than examining pieces by the great masters of art. Up until taking calculus in high school, my thoughts about math rarely strayed beyond fence painting. However, I was lucky enough to get a passionate high school calculus teacher who made it a goal to introduce us to Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and the like. From such introductions I began to build my own sense of mathematical curiosity and build internal motivation to explore deeper problems than fence painting. As a result, I have come to a place in life where I believe that making a career of math research will be the true path to my own eudaimonia. Through my conversations with the aforementioned calculus teacher I was shown work in real analysis and probability. I understood none of it at the time, but was able to take away that the work I was doing in my calculus and statistics classes were merely the tips of icebergs that I am glad to be descending upon now. I was also introduced to more exotic fields like knot theory and chaos theory. Chaos theory was the field that interested me the most, and so we would often talk about this during class downtime. Although throughout history, morals and ethics have been used interchangeably, they are in fact not one in the same. Morality is within oneself and develops over a period of time as a result of meeting and resolving moral issues as they come forth, whereas ethics is essentially a moral compass, or a set of rules one follows throughout the course of their life (Crebert, Patrick, Cragnolini, 2004). William Golding strikes this question in his highly realistic novel, Lord of The Flies. The story is set in a tropical island during World War 2 when a plane is shot down holding British schoolboys. No adults survive and they are left to govern themselves until they are rescued. Through Jack, Golding demonstrates what will happen to man when law and order are taken away, and that ultimately man will choose safe gray over civility. In the beginning, Jack shows up as head boy of the choir. Jack thinks he should lead the boys on the island because he already leads his choir. I ought to be chief, because I m chapter chorister and head boy, (Golding 22). This is the first time we see Jack s wanting of power. Jack has led before and sees how much power and strength comes with it. This makes him want more, rather than having a civil vote, and choose who the leader should be. Now, theorists use the lack of documents on Shakespeare s life and doubt about how a commoner like Shakespeare could have written his famous plays to argue against Shakespeare s authorship. While arguments for other candidates may be compelling, no concrete proof exists for any one candidate that provides a clearer picture of a literary genius than Shakespeare himself. Those who support Shakespeare as the best candidate and true author emphasize the fact that the body of evidence that does exist points to Shakespeare, and no one else, as the author of his works (Pruitt). The established documented facts: Shakespeare s education, the appearance of his name on not only his published plays, but around eighty other writer s works as a form of tribute or homage in an era where providing the author s name was not customary, his familiarity with acting, setting the stage, and orchestration of the action, and his life events which are reflected in the mood of his writing give William Shakespeare holds the strongest claim to the works that bear his name.
