Essays On Antigone
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essays on Antigone" can present both challenges and
opportunities for exploration. Antigone, a classic Greek tragedy by Sophocles, delves into
complex themes such as morality, justice, and the clash between personal convictions and
societal norms. As a writer, navigating through the intricate layers of this play requires a deep
understanding of its characters, plot intricacies, and the cultural context in which it was written.
One of the difficulties lies in capturing the essence of Antigone's character and her unwavering
commitment to burying her brother against the king's decree. Crafting an essay that analyzes her
motivations, the consequences of her actions, and the philosophical debates presented in the play
demands a nuanced approach.
Moreover, exploring the broader themes of fate, free will, and the role of power in Antigone
requires careful examination. Unraveling the moral dilemmas faced by the characters and their
implications adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
As a writer, it's essential to navigate the intricate web of relationships and conflicts within the
play. Whether examining the dynamics between Antigone and Creon, the impact of divine laws
versus human laws, or the tragic consequences of stubborn pride, each aspect demands
thoughtful analysis.
Furthermore, delving into the historical and cultural context of Ancient Greece adds depth to the
essay. Understanding the societal norms, religious beliefs, and political structures of that time
enhances the interpretation of the play and contributes to a more comprehensive discussion.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Essays on Antigone" necessitates a careful balance of literary
analysis, philosophical exploration, and historical contextualization. It is a task that requires
dedication, critical thinking, and a profound appreciation for the complexities presented in
Sophocles' timeless work.

The Importance Of Monuments In The United States
Monuments in the US should be taken down and here is my reason why. One of
the things I think that Monuments should be taken down is because most of them
have very dark parts of our history. One reason why is that some monuments have
some racial offencenses and make some our citizen uncomfortable . (brophy) and
that s not really good for the public we want citizens to be comfortable in our
country. Also one of reasons it should monuments should come down is that some
people litary kill just to keep them up that s a little bit extreme. For example in new
orleans a group of people called the city white league killed law enforcement officers
and other citizens . (Landrew) to continue is that we are kinda basically honoring our
darkest part

Introduction The complexity of health care is increasing greatly in the 21st century.
Paradox and unpredictability are always existent in complicated systems. Moreover,
there are often unknowable things in such systems. Practically, the experience of the
enormous complexity results in disillusionment and frustration. Flexible and creative
approaches to health care must take the place of the traditional health care
complexities. New tools and concepts should be provided to face the challenges of
health care. To keep up with the accelerating complexity in health care, we must react
to the emergent opportunities and patterns with flexibility. In other words,... Show

Recently, healthcare activities are characterized among the complex systems. The
article attempts to give a definition to the word complexity . It has a loose meaning,
starting from not simple and up to complicated and intractable. Modern trends
recommend further research on the study of the environments as well as the
complicated and correlated components and sub components of the complex system
of healthcare. The article also describes the decomposability of complex health care
systems with a view to make it easy for researches to carry out further studies in this
particular field. The article is a good attempt to make the approach of managing,
studying and understanding complex health care systems feasible.
.
The article succeeds in the description of a suggested approach for the clear
understanding of complexity in health care settings. This process depends upon the
practical and functional consideration of the relation between the components and
sub components which make up the whole system of health
The Presidential Election Picture For Running Mate
As the dates for both the Democrat and Republican National Conventions draw
nearer, the 2016 Presidential election picture is starting to become more defined. With
Bernie Sanders chances approaching a mathematic improbability, Hilary Clinton s
road to the Democrat nomination is all but clear. Although the Republican nominee is
not as obvious, the field has at least been narrowed down from seventeen possible
candidates to two, the Twitter loving Donald Trump and the optimistic Ted Cruz.
Unfortunately, there is an important variable missing from all of these campaigns, the
potential candidate s choice for running mate. Many times, the Nation throws on their
blinders and ignores the impact of this decision as though there will not be any
repercussion if an unsuitable running mate is chosen. This is evidenced every time a
voter casts a ballet in the primaries for a particular candidate oblivious of who their
counterpart will be. What is the purpose of postponing this important decision until
primary elections are almost complete? Shouldn t the announcement of the individual
s intent to run for President include the announcement of the vice presidential
candidate as well? Although the office of vice president is erroneously considered
irrelevant or insignificant, the unbiased truth is that twenty percent of past presidents
were former vice presidents who assumed office upon the death or resignation of their
predecessor. This historical evidence emphasizes how important it
Crying Of The Soul By William Edward Burghardt Du Bois
Crying of The Soul
How hard a thing is life to the lowly, and get how human and real! W.E.B. Du Bois.
Ghana Calls is a Poem written by William Edward Burghardt Du Bois. He is also
formally known as W.E.B. Du Bois. He has been referred to as the father of the
civil rights movement and as a historian, a sociologist, a scholar, a teacher, a
novelist, and a journalist (Hufford D 1997). This poem was dedicated to Kwame
Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah was the Ghanaian leader who declared Ghana
independence from Great Britain (UK). Many of W.E.B. Du Bois literary work
was devoted to issues associated with the people of African descent from America
and Africa as well. In the poem Mr W.E.B. Du Bois wrote on how it felt growing
up in Ghana Africa through the eyes of a child having a dream. The depiction of
the dream gave details of the soul of one Ghanaian and the issues of the place they
call home. W.E.B. Du Bois used imagery, personification and other literary devices
in Ghana Calls to engage the reader on what he is trying to convey in his writing.
W.E.B Du Bois used imagery in the poem. Imagery adds intensity to convey the
portrait that the reader wants to paint in the poem. To add a visual picture of the

Speech On Green Sea Turtles
These turtles lay eggs on beaches. At nights, female turtles come to beaches and lay
eggs in the nests. When the eggs hatch, the young ones go into the water. The mature
green turtles can live up to eighty years in wild.
Distribution In Pakistan: In Pakistan Green sea turtles are found on Sandspit beach,
Sindh and coastal areas of Baluchistan (Makran Coast).
Nesting Season: In Pakistan the female green sea turtles lay eggs throughout the year.
The frequency is high in September and low in monsoon season.
Conservational Status: The green sea turtle is categorized Endangered by IUCN
(International Union for the conservation of nature). That s why it is not legal to
harm and kill these turtles. The main threat to these turtles are anthropogenic
activities. Pollution is also causes negatives effects to them as well as their eggs.
These turtles are also suffering the problem of Habitat Loss as nesting beaches are
reduced due to development processes.
Threats to Green Sea Turtles: Some of the threats that the green sea turtles are facing

Can A Machine Know Essay
One of the most biased and controversial topics in the field of philosophy is that of a
statement, and the questioning of Can a machine know. The problems associating
and surrounding this topic are endless, because of all the different biases, reasonable
and skeptical thoughts that people contribute to the discussions. On an occasion
when this turmoil question comes up an individual might be comparing and thinking
that a plain toaster is a machinewhich is true and yet someone else compares the
newest breakthrough in technology such as a robot and they might say that its knows
what it is doing. However in the end of each discussion there is a doubt, this simple

The company Honda has made a robot that they say is by far the most advanced
one in the world today, they quote on quote have said it is just like us. The robot
has the ability to talk shake hands and perform the mechanical functions that an
individual may have, yet in the end the robot was programmed to raise its arm and
move it up and down when someone else does, so it mimics your moves and looks
up the possible outcomes in its data base, this is NOT an example of a real human.
A human has the ability to process the knowledge or what you have said to him or
her and have his own opinion and bias towards the conversation or the activity that
he or she is involved in, where as a robot just performs the task that it is given and
programmed to do, if you were to insult the machine in any ways it would not talk
back nor would it be hurt by your actions. Hondas robot just performs the tasks that
it is programmed to do such as walk on black circular lines. What I am getting at is
a machine just performs the tasks it is made to do with no regret bias or any feelings
towards the function.

Using Image Acquisition Is The Input Text Document
1.INPUT TEXT DOCUMENT Image acquisition is the input text document.
Acquire image of any document with the help of camera or scanner. Image
acquisition is used to Acquire/obtain the image of document in color, gray level or
binary format. 2. PRE PROCESSING These are the pre processing steps often
performed in OCR 1. Binarization The simplest way to use image binarization is
to choose a threshold value, and classify all pixels with values above this threshold
as white, and all other pixels as black. Selecting proper threshold is very important
task. In many cases, finding one threshold compatible to the entire image is very
difficult, and in many cases even impossible. Therefore, adaptive image
binarization is needed where an optimal threshold is chosen for each image area.
Binarization is processing of converting color image in to binary image. In
binarization, first we are converting color image in to Gray scale image using
following formula. [2]There are various Binerization methods and in that various
different algorithm used are as follows. Color image is converted into gray image
and following algorithms are applied on gray scale image for converting it in to
binary image. Niblack Algorithm It is local thresholding algorithm. Local
thresholding algorithms give good results for document because it calculate different
threshold for different part of the image, considering pixel value. Niblack s algorithm
calculates a pixel wise threshold by sliding a
Essay Descent Into Madness

Mark Colvin
This piece is written by Mark Colvin, a professor of Sociology in the Department of
Justice Studies at Kent State University, as the introduction to the book Descent
into Madness by Mike Rolland. On February 2nd 3rd, 1980 one of the maximum
security prisons in New Mexico experienced one of the most violent riots in the
history of American Correctional System. This is often referred to as The New
Mexico State Penitentiary Riot. The riot lasted for 36 hours, and in those 36 hours
there were 33 deaths. There was one other inmate who dies a couple of months later
due to the injuries incurred in that riot. It is estimated that about 200 inmates were
severely injured or raped in the riot. It is no surprise ... Show more content on

This gave birth to great confusion on all administrative levels and consequently the
administration began to pass vague judgments. The whole haphazard scenario of the
administrational structure gave birth to a mid level clique of administrators who
were virtually unaccountable to anyone in authority for their actions.
Following the change in prison leadership in the mid 1970s, the prison experienced a
shortage of trained correctional staff. A subsequent investigation by the state attorney
general s office found that prison officials began coercing prisoners to become
informants in a strategy known as the snitch game . The state s report said that
retribution for snitching led to an increased incidence of violence at the prison in the
late 1970s. By the end of 1978, this clique of administrators were left to do whatever
they wanted to the prison which caused great unrest amongst the inmates and
eventually forced them towards mutiny. Another major cause of the riot was the
cancellation of educational, recreational and other rehabilitative programs that had
run from 1970 to 1975. In that five year period, the prison had been described as
relatively calm. When the educational and recreational programs were stopped in
1975, prisoners had to be locked down for long periods. These conditions created
strong feelings of deprivation and discontent in the inmate population that would later
Baby Boomer Culture
Bristow offers a cultural analysis of Baby Boomer mass media cultural scripts. This
British study identifies an emerging conflict model between Baby Boomer generation
cohorts and subsequent age segments. An analysis of media materials from 1986 to
2011 categorizes the cultural scripting associated with Baby Boomers during the
period. It notes the recent change towards negative scripting characterizing the Baby
Boom as a problem. It concludes that the overt conflict orientation of cultural scripts
like Boomergeddon are politically motivated devices, and ambiguously generalized.

Data is cited showing that, in an aging population, individuals rely on state support in
their retirement years. Suggested policies include financial literacy programs,
delayed retirement, automated personal saving, and financial advisory reform.
Nishiyama et al. (2014) proposes that a key problem regarding personal savings,
assets, and retirement are the very state funded programs designed to help retirees.
The research concludes that median income levels among the Boomer generation will
not be able to support it s level of consumption based on it s own assets (Nishiyama et

his non fiction books, Palm Sunday, he outlines the steps to become a better human

Russian Revolution Causes
The Russian Revolution have many important stages that are distinct from one
another, From the Tsar to the Provisional Government to the Communist. It all
happened in 1914, World War I is booming in Europe, a perfect opportunity for
Russia s rotting society. War makes the Russian people forget about the disputes that
the Tsar failed to resolve. And so the Tsar dragged his people to war with Germany.
At first, Russiawas seemingly to be successful, but the Russian army with bad
leadership from the incompetent generals have caused them major defeats against
the German. Morale was low and to combat this, Tsar Nicholas himself went to the
battlefield and leave his wife in charge of the nation back home. People of all class

The Red Army are the communists that are in power and held most of the land. Most
countries of the former Russian Empire turn socialist and join Russia into a big Soviet
Union. The Allies saw that Russia pulled out of the war and the German have more
forces now that they are free from the Eastern front. And so the Allies intervened
the Russian in their civil war by supporting the White, hopefully they would
continue the war once they took over. But this is repelled when the Reds uses
nationalism to encourage the Russian to drive out foreign power, this has a crucial
outcome in the future as the Russian have a distrust in the West. The civil war uses
Terror as a strategy for both sides. Assassinations attempts and executions happened
often. The Red set up the Cheka, a Secret police force that take out political
opponents and spread fear among their own people, just like what the tsar did
when he was in power to keep the people from rebelling. The communists also set
up forced labor camps to make political prisoner work. They also adopt a policy
known as War Communism. The Government took control of almost all aspect of
economy of the people and that peasants are forced to give all their crops to the
Army and the people in the city, peasants were also forcefully drafted to the army or
forced to work in factories. Trotsky trained his army into an effective fighting force,
using terror to discipline his soldiers by shooting every tenth men in an unit if they
performed poorly in battle. The Red army with strategic location and organization are
far better than the scattered whites that have to fight from all sides with no
coordinations. By 1921, the Reds beat the whites
Exploring the Relationship and Influence between Teacher...
The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship and influence
between a teacher expectations and student achievements in class. Does that student
whom the teacher is always giving extra lessons and is always more patient with or
whom always takes the longest to answer a question, and is always called on, is he
the one who is getting the most out of that class? According to several studies and
experiments they all say yes and student does achieve to be more successful if their
teacher takes a little of their time to help the student and let them answer that hard
question with more time than the other students. Studies have shown that teachers
expectations are more likely to influence the student s performance. The attitude of
the teacher can change how they see the actions of a student and allow them to
make different opinions. As shown in Elisha Babad, Frank Bernieri, and Robert
Rosenthal s study (1991) from the book Social Psychology written by David G
Myers, students are very sensitive to teachers facial expressions and body movements
(111; bk.ch3). A teacher s attitude can influence their judgment of a student in class
room behavior; namely, their own attitudes can cause the fundamental attribution
error to occur as well as the Self fulfilling prophecy, as reflected in a student s
performance.
Psychologist Robert Rosenthal and Principle Lenore Jacobson performed an
experiment in which they told teachers that a handful of students were diagnosed as a
Cortisol In Hair
How Cortisol is in Hair Diffusion from blood to the hair follicle is thought to be the
primary mechanism for cortisol incorporation into hair (Davenport et al 2006) It is
believed that the cortisol that enters the hair shaft is in direct portion to its free
concentration of blood. This process only occurs during active hair growth in
individual hair follicles. The cortisol concentration (HCC) in an intact hair shaft
should represent an integrated measure of systemic HPA activity during the active
growth phase of the hair sample being tested. MACBETH An increasing body of
evidence has shown that hair cortisol levels reflect systemic plasma levels of the
hormone over time, allowing estimation of chronic stress, both psychological and
physiological,

Stress And Stress In The Workplace
When it comes to call center agents having to go through improper training in the
workplace, increase of workload, and dealing with difficult customers. These
issues can come as a negative outcome to the organization and employees in the
area of their performance at work, absent days off, and finally leaving the
employment position takes a toll on both sides of the equation. Someone s job
performance is correlated with conscientiousness, which is the personality trait of
being careful or attentive and the satisfaction a worker has at work. And according
to the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, that is one of the two leading
theories of stress and trauma over the past 20 years, has reported that individuals
become emotionally exhausted when they do not have enough resources to meet
work demands (Witt, Andrews Carlson, 2004, p.150). The type of resources that
should be available to employees, support o of supervisors, a sense of
independence, ability to make decisions, and control (Cordes Dougherty, 1993).
Besides, those work demands can consist of role conflict and ambiguity, role
overload, and work pressure (Witt, Andrews Carlson, 2004, p.150. And those
concepts are important to keep in mind because when work demands ends up
exceeding the resources available, job performance is reduced. When it came to
highly conscientious workers, they had to sacrifice the quantity of their work but not
the quality of their work. These type of call center agents would be
Creative Concepts Of Creative Products
Creative products are goods or services produced and sold by creative industries.
Creative industries are defined as having their origin in individual creativity, skill and
talent. They typically develop products offered in the entertainment sector such as
music, theatre, opera, film, art, broadcasting, etc. Universally seen as a unique type
of product, they produce symbolic goodsin the form of experiences, ideas or images.
Because their products take the form of an experience or service, they are classified
as intangible. Intangible goods are products that have no physical nature meaning a
person cannot hold, touch, smell or otherwise handle it. Creative products are also
seen as ephemeral, meaning they only last for a certain period of time. Their value
derives from the artistic and human talents incorporated in it at the different stages of
creation, production, reproduction and distribution. (CITE) In many ways, these
creative products are often seen as more difficult to analyse, manage or sell
compared to other commodity goods or services.
Figuring out why these products are often seen as more difficult means understanding
how these particular products are managed compared to their counterpart. Most
notably, there is not just one product being produced and sold. When it comes to
creative goods, the whole product is composed of several different types. From the
seller s point, there is the formal product which is the actual artistic performance itself
that is being
Investigation Of The Speed Of A Nerve Impulse
INVESTIGATION OF THE SPEED OF A NERVE IMPULSE
INTRODUCTION
The speed of a nerve impulse is an important aspect of the human nervous system
and can be altered by different stimulants. In 1850, Hermann von Helmholtz
succeeded in measuring the speed of the nerve impulse. He found it to be much
slower than the previously believed speed of 50 to 100 meters per second. This
finding was then followed by intensive investigation of the nervous system within the
framework of the physical and biological sciences. However modern measurements
range from 6 to 122 meters per second, depending on the type of nerve fibre (Jonides,
Rozin and Gleitman, 1983).
The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. The
brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system and nerves form the peripheral
nervous system. The nervous system helps all the parts of the body to communicate
with each other. It also reacts to changes from both outside and inside the body. The
nervous system uses both electrical and chemical means to send and receive messages.
The basic building blocks of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system are
nerve cells, or neurons. The brain consists of around 100 billion neurons, they are
specialized to respond to stimuli and transmit impulses from one part of the body to
another. Neurons can be divided into three types, sensory, motor and inter neurons.
Sensory neurons pass information about stimuli such as light, sound, touch and heat

In order to provide competent nursing care, one must be conscious of the significant
values, beliefs and practices of the culture. In the following paragraphs, we will
examine these aspects as they relate to the Russian culture.
About the Patient
N.G. was a 43 year old Russian female who was admitted to Palomar s Downtown
Behavioral Unit (BHU) on Monday 10/10/16. The patient s reason for admission
was that she was brought in by the San Diego Police Department on a 5150. She
was being held on a 72 hour psychiatric hold for being a danger to others where she
was making threats to hurt her mom. She has had a long history of treatment for her
Schizophrenia that she was diagnosed with as a child. When she arrived to the BHU
she had symptoms of a mood disturbances, including decreased sleep, increased
energy, agitation, anxiety, and aggression.
Cultural View s on Mental Illness
In common with many other countries across the world, mental illness is stigmatized
in Russia. Rates of mental illness are high in Russia. There was some kind of shame
if you have someone ill in your family. In the days of communism, people who were
diagnosed as mentally ill were locked up in psychiatric hospitals and denied contact
with the outside world. Mental health has traditionally been a low priority within the
Russian health system. There services are predominantly funded through the
government s budget rather than the populations need, or the problem
Cup Of Joe Research Paper
Cup of Joe The majority of Sailors like a good cup of coffee also known as a cup of
Joe. However most Sailors do not know the origins of this naval term or the
heritage associated with it. As Senior Enlisted Leaders, we have a responsibility to
understand and pass on the history and heritage of our service. This paper will
discuss the history, evolution, and effects of the decision that coined the phrase
cup of Joe and the inheritance that today s Navy has from them. History The
phrase cup of Joe is the naval term for a cup of coffee. As with most phrases, its
origins are hard to prove. However, it is widely accepted that it originated from
General Order No. 99 issued 1 July 1914 by then Secretary of the Navy the
honorable Josephus Daniels (Cup of Joe, 2009). Josephus was a prohibitionist and
believed that Sailors should not drink so he banned all alcohol on all naval stations
and ships. This ban upset many Sailors. His granddaughter Adelaide Douglas Key
said, The phrase cup of Joe originated with Josephus Daniels. He took away grog...

However, with the exception to medical uses, there is still no alcohol on U.S. naval
ships. Coffee is still mainstay anywhere you go in the Navy and just ask any Seaman
what happens if you wash the Chief s coffee cup. The General order that earned a
cup of coffee the name cup of Joe over a hundred years ago is also the reason why we
are alcohol free on ships and resulted in our responsible drinking campaign (ALL
HANDS, 2015). Therefore, when someone asks for a cup of Joe or has a coffee cup

the Navy. A cup of Joe has special meaning to the Chief s Mess since they are the
heritage keepers. Even, the iconic symbol of the Navy Chief Petty Officer captured

Who Is John Dalton
John Dalton (1766 1844) was an English chemist who pioneered the work in the
development of modern atomic theory. The idea of the atom was first proposed by
Greek Philosopher, Democritus, in 460. His theory was widely ignored because
many people believed that because the atoms were too small to see, the ideas were
too theoretical and therefore there was no proof of the atoms existence. Nobody
continued with the exploration of this until the 1700 s when scientific method was
established. Dalton examined many results accumulated by chemists, including
Lavoisier and Proust, as well as conducting his own experiments to attempt to
discover a logical way to explain the principles of law of conservation of mass and
law of definite proportions. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what was identified as Dalton s rule of great simplicity . He stated that when
atoms combine in one ratio ...it must be presumed to be a binary one, unless some
cause appear to the contrary . The knowledge of ratios was insufficient, at that time,
to determine the actual number of elemental atoms in each compound. This caused
Dalton to believe that water was OH and ammonia was NH which is quite different
from our modern understanding of the formulas of water (H_2 O) and ammonia
(гЂ–NHгЂ—_4). This was a mistake in assuming that all compounds in 1:1 ratio.
His atomic weights were also not sufficiently accurate as he stated that oxygen had
an atomic weight of seven rather than what eight, which is what we classify it as
today. Since the discovery of isotopes, the assumption that atoms of a given element
are identical in their physical and chemical properties has been destroyed as some
have varying weights. Nuclear fission and nuclear fusion have also disproved the
theory that atoms are indestructible and preserve their identities in all chemical
reactions. The modern atomic theory has now been modified to reflect the
discoveries and knowledge of scientists
How Does Acupuncture Effectively Reduce Insomnia
Does Acupuncture Effectively Reduce Insomnia There are many contributing factors
that can cause insomnia or loss of sleep. Whether it is due to medication, diet, illness
or anxiety, 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from sleep issues each year (CDC,
2015). Multiple studies have been conducted to see whether or not acupuncture
effectively reduces insomnia.
Acupuncture is a modality that is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Mayo
Clinic describes acupuncture as the insertion of extremely thin needles through the
skin at strategic points on the body (Staff, 2015). The specific points on the body
that the needles are inserted are called meridians. Each meridian is believed to be

During his first year at college, King completed his first full length novel, quot; The
Long Walk. quot; He sent the novel to Bennett Cerf/Random House only to have it
rejected. King took the rejection bad and filed the book away. Stephen King made his
first small sale with his story quot; The Glass Floor quot; for the amount of thirty
five dollars. In June 1970, Stephen King graduated from the University of Maine
with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and a certificate to teach high school.
King s next idea came from the poem by Robert Browning, quot;Childe Roland to
the Dark Tower Came. quot; He began work on The Dark Tower saga. But due to
his lack of money he was unable to finish the novel and it too was filed away. King
took a measly job of pumping gas earning $1.25 an hour. Stephen King then began to
earn money for his writings by submitting his short stories to men s magazines such
as Cavalier.
On January 2, 1971, Tabitha Jane Spruce and Stephen King were married. And in
the fall of 1971, King took a teaching job at Hampden Academy earning $6,400 a
year. The Kings then moved to Hermon, a town west of Bangor, Maine.
Stephen King then began work on a short story about a teenage girl named Carietta

The Beautiful University City of Cambridge
The beautiful city of Cambridge has an enviable reputation as one of the world s
greatest universities as well as being an agreeable place to live and work. The
inhabitants enjoy low unemployment, a cluster of good schools and plenty of green
spacious parkland. The river Cam provides a focal point in the summer with its
flotilla of punts gliding around gentle bends overhung with lush willows.
Two vibrant communities
Cambridge is a city of two vibrant communities, that despite a chequered past of
friction and confrontation now seem to co exist with ease. Both the students and
locals go about their business, almost independent of each other. Many scholars are
completely unaware of the delights the city has to offer away from the seclusion of
their learned places and locals would be hard pressed to tell you where any university
building was apart from King s College Chapel and maybe the University Library,
with its huge soaring tower. Most central colleges face inward to courtyards hidden
behind castle like buildings, giving no clue to the enclosed delights (that can include
a lake with huge fish). Secret and enchanting places only accessed by gatehouses
guarded by porters keepers of the portcullis. Within the city boundaries are a dense
collection of architectural styles ranging from medieval, Jacobean, classical and
Victorian. This city is an architectural historians paradise where examples of one style
evolving into another are abundant.

Hamilton Vs The Lion King
There are few shows in the history of Broadway and musical theatre that can claim
to have ever had the popularity and mass intrigue as Lin Manuel Miranda s smash
hit, historical musical Hamilton. The two hour rap based musical tells the story of
America s founding father Alexander Hamilton from his immigration to New York to
rise in power amongst the first presidential cabinet and ultimate death at the hands of
a former ally. Gaining support from celebrities and President Obama only furthered
the popularity of the musical that continues to boast being sold out over a year in
advance. And while this mega popularity has proven an amazing achievement for
Hamilton, there has been some question as to whether or not Broadway and the world
of music... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in
other shows? This is unfortunately not the case. As explained by several
producers, sheer cost from popularity may be bringing down audience attendance.
The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and
up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to
pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not
willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime
(Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and
unable to fill seats forcing them to close. The most prominent example being
Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of the most well known actresses on
Broadway, Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months (Playbill). The
sweeping change is most noticeable to the majority of the public however, through
the Annual Tony Awards. While the nominations have proven to be fairly spread
across the board of shows, the sweeping wins of Hamilton have changed the way in
which producers seek to advertise and attract ticket buyers. So why large budget
productions have been able to afford the costs of added print materials, smaller less
popular productions have resorted to more consumer based TV ads

Philosophy For Laymen
In Philosophy for Laymen, Bertrand Russell explains that we need to search for
the knowledge of how to best handle the new technical skills we have obtained.
The problem is, how do we do so? He argues we do this through the use of
philosophy, which means the love of wisdom. He is convinced that if we have some
understanding of everything on earth that we can succeed in life. We will then be
able to understand how to handle those technical skills we have already mastered.
Bertrand Russell backs up his theories by explaining the two different objects of
philosophy. He states, On the one hand, it aimed at a theoretical understanding of the
structure of the world; on the other hand, it tried to discover and inculcate the best

Summary Of Lewis Thomas On Societies As Organisms
We, human beings feel distinctly unique, individual and most importantly,
unmistakably superior due to our exclusive intelligence. This is why we, as a
society, tend to look down on other types of life forms, insect or animal, as they do
not possess that desired intellect. Yet, Lewis Thomas, in his opinion essay On
Societies as Organisms , argues that humansociety has much to learn from the
communal accomplishment of other life forms. The author effectively conveys this
main idea through his use of analogy, enumeration of examples and through his level
of language.
To begin, Thomas astutely uses analogies to make parallels between human society
and other life forms as to inform us of our deficiencies when contrasted with those
other life forms. Thomas, first of all, defines an organism as being a live computer
(233) composed of component parts (233), an accumulation of individuals
communicating and working as one towards a common objective. Subsequently, the
analogy of the organism is used to represent the ideal human society. Hence, when
ants build their nest (233), the Hill (233), humans build their knowledge, accumulate
a mountain of knowledge (235). However, what Thomas wants us to acknowledge
is that human knowledge is a jigsaw puzzle in the sense that it is accumulated piece
by piece, never all at once, never by a single individual (Ziman qtd. in ... Show more

In his essay, Thomas stresses the importance of working collectively and

Comparative Advantage Of Blassa Index
It is important that a country specialize in the commodity in which it poses a
comparatives advantage over others. In order to identify the strong sector in the
economy, the actual trade flows was analyzed. This idea was later improvised and
refined by Bela Balassa and gave his famous Balassa Index.
This index is commonly used in International Economics to calculate the relative
advantage or disadvantage that a country poses in a certain class of goods and
services. The value of the index shows the revealed comparative advantage of a
country in good. The Balassa Index is fundamentally a standardized export share.

export of pharmaceuticals, thus it should specialize in this sector and generate income.

The above figure shows the export trend of pharmaceuticals from Indian market to
the world. The highest export was recorded in financial year 2015 16. Despite of
the fall in subsequent year it still maintained it power in the global market. India
enjoys relative advantage in this sector, which is been calculated by the Balassa
index. The strength of the exports has been compared with overall export of the
ASEAN. As Indian pharmaceutical sector was growing similarly the pharmaceutical
sector of ASEAN was flourishing which was making it an attractive for JAPAN and

Sherlock Holmes Double Deduction Essay
To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention
her under any other name. In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of
her sex. It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler. All
emotions, and that one particularly, were abhorrent to his cold, precise but
admirably balanced mind. He was, I take it, the most perfect reasoning and
observing machine that the world has seen, but as a lover he would have placed
himself in a false position. He never spoke of the softer passions, save with a gibe
and a sneer. They were admirable things for the observer excellent for drawing the
veil from men s motives and actions. But for the trained reasoner to admit such
intrusions into his own delicate and finely adjusted temperament was to introduce a

the past. However, unlike his comrades, Winston was occasionally able to rely on
his memories and realize all the lies the Party was telling; for example, while many
citizens believed the Party s claim that it had invented the airplane, Winston was able
to draw on a memory from his childhood (before the Party took over) and conclude
that the Party had not invented the airplane. The fact that the Party was able to
completely change his mind and remove his orthodoxy (ultimately resulting in
Winston s profession of love for Big Brother), shows the non consensual intimacy

Keith H. Basso Essay
Keith H. Basso
It is rare to find a book that is as informative as a textbook but reads as easy as a
short story. But Keith H. Basso is successful in creating an interesting ethnography
about the Western Apache culture by using two usually overlooked topics, geography
and oral history. Geography and the location of places is usually forgotten or seen as
just topography, but Basso proves that geography is more than a location. It is the
forgotten history of the name of a place that makes the locality more important than it
seems. While whitemen (a term frequented by the Apache to describe White European

The background of the author is very important because it provides the basis in
which the reader will understand the information presented as of the experience and
the reasons why the anthropologist wrote such an ethnography. We must also
remember that Basso is also a linguist, an anthropologist whose focus is on the
language of societies and how different words and contexts convey different
meanings. But in Wisdom sits in places, Basso takes on the role of the observer and
foreigner when approaching his consultants. (Note: the word consultant is now used
instead of informants or subjects because these natives are there to work for the
ethnographer, to be consult when questions arise). In a way, Basso is considered as a
child when doing the interviews with the retired horsemen because in Apache culture,
children are not born with the three conditions of the mind required to learn the
wisdom of the culture. The three conditions are: smoothness of them mind, resilience
of the mind and steadiness of the mind. Smoothness of the mind conveys the sense of
having the mind free of obstructions and to be open to new ideas. The resilience of
the mind combats against external distractions while the steadiness of the mind
combats against the internal factors of distraction. Instead, they must pay attention
and observe the words and actions of older people (in Basso s

Hally feels powerless when has to transport his unconscious drunken father out of the

need to have permission to come into a hotel because he is black.
Willie is interesting in that he looks up, smiling, from the floor for a good portion
of the play, as if he is obliviously happy with his place. In addition, his physical
positioning mirrors his less powerful status when it comes to Hally, and even when
it comes to Sam. He plays his role as someone who acts slave like and naive in his
illiteracy. But he does have power in some areas of his life, when it comes to he
and Hilda, and he uses it. He does what he knows when he hits Hilda when he does
not get what he wants from her. Hilda uses the power she has to abandon him. He
does not understand the concept of moving someone versus motivating someone.
Because he simply moves her, he made her do what he wanted for a while. But since
he does not motivate her, she will not stay around.
Sam tries to do a lot of good with Hally but even he is guilty of lording power over
others as well. He teases Willie, how s your pillow with the quickstep? (Fugard
1142) because he has slightly more power than Willie, it is acceptable for him to

During the famous First Hundred Days, the Emergency Banking Act was the initial
to come out of President Roosevelt s program. This measure empowered the
government to close banks that were closed to collapse and reopened when readied.
With this new act, the general public was no longer afraid and regained confidence in
the banking system. The tendency to hoard cash diminished rapidly, panicky

Despite the economic recovery caused by the First New Deal, the Great Depression

Metaphor In The Metaphor
This literature review will outline the range of previous research on the use of
metaphor in non literary texts, specifically in political speeches. Commentary on the
use of metaphor has a long history dating back to Ancient Greece, with Aristotle in his
work Poetics (350 BC). It is considered the metaphor as indicative of genius and an
instrument of charm and ornamentation. However, he considered this instrument of
ornamentation as being suitable for poetry and prose, but being too obscure to be
used for argumentation. (Poetics, 1954).
More recently, the volume of research into metaphor has been done considerably,
with conferences on this specific topic. Besides, such research also expands a wide

They underlie our conceptual system and therefore have a great influence on
thought. Since most conceptual metaphors are unconsciously perceived, their power
is all the more important. (Deignan 2005: 15). For example, one does not likely
remark the metaphor in I m feeling down because it is so deep seated in daily
language. It is because of this entrenchment of the most actively used expressions that
their power to influence our minds is significant (Deignan 2005: 15). In conceptual
metaphors the more abstract, cognitively unavailable target domain is explained by
means of a concrete and cognitively available one, via source domain via the process

construction, creation, destruction, etc. For example, the conceptual metaphor of
Mother In Sundiata
The Significant Role of Mothers in the Development of their Children
Over the years, the role of mother in the life of their children has been crucial and
prominent. The child s first education starts at home with their mother. The mother
teaches the child how to walk, how to talk, and how to become a strong man or
woman in the society. Some mothers will even stop going to work in order to take
care of their kids so that they can be a better person and a good citizen. Mothers also
sacrifices their time, wants and desire to benefit their child, they serve as protection
and stability for their children. Mothers build up the strength in their children to make
them fulfill their goals, and to be a better citizen.
In the story of Sundiata , two mothers are said to play a significant role in the life of
their children. The mothers are Sogolon (sundiata s mother), and Sassouma (Dankaran
Touman s mother). The mothers in the story of Sundiata influence the life and

Social Media And Health Behavior
Social Media and Health Behavior Social media is affecting all age groups and
contributes to how the nation shares and receives information, including vital topics
such as their health. The correlation between the use of social media and health
behavior is valuable to nurses and patients alike. It can be manipulated to provide
accurate health information, influence healthier lifestyle changes, and reach a larger
audience about specific events in the community. Social media can hinder health
behaviors in individuals with little guidance and lack the knowledge to sort through
credible information, because they may not feel the need to seek medical help. With
nurses available to reach the vast majority through technology, they can guide a more
positive health attitude and prevent a negative outlook. With social media
applications expanding, seizing the opportunity to spread a wealth of material at the
click of a button can play a role in managing positive health behaviors. The
following information focuses on how social media can promote health conscious
behaviors in many patients and individuals while exploring the overall impact, the
role of the nurse, and controversy with this technology. Social media is a common
vector for searching, sharing, and receiving all types of information. Due to hand
held accessibility, many opt to search for health care topics via applications on the
Internet or cell phone. As 85% of Americans are using the Internet in some way, a

Stryker Corporation Essay
VALUABLE ASSETS
In the medical sales industry, most of the competitive advantage comes from the
doctor preference. Because of the high cost and amount of time that it takes to learn
how to use a different company s medical equipment, most doctors use one
company s products for life. Stryker has always recognized the existence of brand
loyalty and has made it a top priority to develop excellent relationships with its
customers. Hospitals that use Stryker s equipment are more likely to continue to buy
from Stryker because of their diverse product offerings. The key factors that
differentiate Stryker from its competitors are innovation, reliability, service and
reputation. As of December 31, 2010, Stryker owned approximately 1,125 United ...

38% of its sales come from its MedSurg products segment, which produces medical
and surgical equipment. 17% of its sales come from Neurotechnology and Spine
products, which produces spine and CMF implants, interventional spine equipment,
and neurovascular products.
Stryker continues to have a consistent flow of new products that expand markets.
They just recently bought MAKO Surgical Corp. for $1.65billion, which develops
robotic technology for hip and knee replacement surgeries. As long as Stryker
continues to develop innovate new products and acquire its competition will continue
to gain market share.
Stryker has a Quick ratio of 3.08, which shows it has the ability to meet any short
term cash needs. Stockholders Equity has increased by 8.18% from Q2FY12 to
Q2FY13. This tells me that it is very unlikely that they will face any financial
difficulty in the near future. It also indicates they have the cash flow to continue
growing through acquisitions.
DISRUPTIONS
One disrupter for Stryker and all companies in the med tech industry will be the
new Affordable Health Care Act. The Affordable Health Care Act will include a
2.3% excise tax on medical devices. For Stryker, 2.3% of their revenues is
$100million dollars, which is 20% of their R D budget. This would be a direct hit
and will have a significant impact on Stryker especially since 65% of their revenues
come from the United States. In 2012, U.S.

Frontal Lobe Analysis
Every single memory, feeling, movement, ability and action has always started and
ended in the same place: the brain. Everyday movements like breathing, yawning, or
even reading would not be possible without the brain. It holds the everyday life of a
human. Even though the brain holds eight major parts, each part contains its own
special abilities to contribute to the actions a body is able to do, from the simplest
movements to the most complex thoughts. Each and every braincontains all of the
same components: neurons, nerve cells, synapses, astrocytes, and individual sections,
mapped out like continents on a globe. Neurons, cells that collect information from
nerve cells, are what sends out the collected information to the parts... Show more

The function of the cerebral cortex can be understood by dividing it... into zones,
much like the geographical arrangement of continents (BrainFacts. org, 2012). One
of the divided zones is the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is in charge of initiating
and coordination of motor movements, like thinking, planning and organizing. The
parietal lobe, which is located in the top back part of your brain, is involved with
the sensory processes, attention, and understanding of language. If damage were to
be applied to this lobe, there could be severe consequences; damage to the left side
would impair the ability to understand spoken or written language, while damage to
the right side would result in difficulty navigating spaces. The back of the brain holds
the occipital lobe. This lobe is what processes the visual information received through
the eyes and helps to identify shapes and colors seen. The last lobe of the brain is the
temporal lobe. It is what processes auditory information given. The temporal lobe
combines the information from the other senses. In the temporal lobe, emotional
responses go through the amygdala, the mass of gray matter inside the left and right
hemisphere. The brain is selective when it processes the moments that come through
one of our senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. It then sends the experience to
the correct part of the brain which then sends out the appropriate reaction to the sense

Tornado Procedure
Each tornado differs, but they do have some common patterns to their travel and
types of damage, which allow for a set of general predictions and precautions. In the
interest of the preservation of life and property and to reduce the destructive effect
of tornado pressures and flying debris, we have developed the following procedure.
1. Monitoring Tornado Alerts
Building Security is responsible for monitoring radio, television and Internet weather
sites. Managers and Supervisor should also have access to radio, television and/or
Internet weather sites and actively participate in the monitoring of weather updates.
2.Updates on Tornado Progression

(d)Once the Tornado Procedure has been invoked, all personnel in the facility will

It s A Wonderful Life By Frank Capra
The performance I encountered was a film released in 1946 called It s a Wonderful
Life directed by Frank Capra. The film s setting is post war and tells a story of a
savings loan manager who doubts himself and struggles against bigger, greedier,
bankers. The original version of the film is in black and white due to the time
period. Regardless of the lack of color, the filmis still popular today due to its content
and uses of the contrast between light and shadow discussed on page 242 of the
text. I was able to critique this film based on the first fake real life snow of its time,
historical context of the bank, and the architecture and dress of the time period. The
film is set in the time of Christmasin 1945. Do to the fact that the movie

Essays On Antigone

  • 1. Essays On Antigone Writing an essay on the topic of "Essays on Antigone" can present both challenges and opportunities for exploration. Antigone, a classic Greek tragedy by Sophocles, delves into complex themes such as morality, justice, and the clash between personal convictions and societal norms. As a writer, navigating through the intricate layers of this play requires a deep understanding of its characters, plot intricacies, and the cultural context in which it was written. One of the difficulties lies in capturing the essence of Antigone's character and her unwavering commitment to burying her brother against the king's decree. Crafting an essay that analyzes her motivations, the consequences of her actions, and the philosophical debates presented in the play demands a nuanced approach. Moreover, exploring the broader themes of fate, free will, and the role of power in Antigone requires careful examination. Unraveling the moral dilemmas faced by the characters and their implications adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. As a writer, it's essential to navigate the intricate web of relationships and conflicts within the play. Whether examining the dynamics between Antigone and Creon, the impact of divine laws versus human laws, or the tragic consequences of stubborn pride, each aspect demands thoughtful analysis. Furthermore, delving into the historical and cultural context of Ancient Greece adds depth to the essay. Understanding the societal norms, religious beliefs, and political structures of that time enhances the interpretation of the play and contributes to a more comprehensive discussion. In conclusion, writing an essay on "Essays on Antigone" necessitates a careful balance of literary analysis, philosophical exploration, and historical contextualization. It is a task that requires dedication, critical thinking, and a profound appreciation for the complexities presented in Sophocles' timeless work. One of the things I think that Monuments should be taken down is because most of them have very dark parts of our history. One reason why is that some monuments have some racial offencenses and make some our citizen uncomfortable . The Presidential Election Picture For Running Mate As the dates for both the Democrat and Republican National Conventions draw nearer, the 2016 Presidential election picture is starting to become more defined. With Bernie Sanders chances approaching a mathematic improbability, Hilary Clinton s road to the Democrat nomination is all but clear. Although the Republican nominee is not as obvious, the field has at least been narrowed down from seventeen possible candidates to two, the Twitter loving Donald Trump and the optimistic Ted Cruz. Unfortunately, there is an important variable missing from all of these campaigns, the potential candidate s choice for running mate. Many times, the Nation throws on their blinders and ignores the impact of this decision as though there will not be any repercussion if an unsuitable running mate is chosen. This is evidenced every time a voter casts a ballet in the primaries for a particular candidate oblivious of who their counterpart will be. What is the purpose of postponing this important decision until primary elections are almost complete? Shouldn t the announcement of the individual s intent to run for President include the announcement of the vice presidential candidate as well? Although the office of vice president is erroneously considered irrelevant or insignificant, the unbiased truth is that twenty percent of past presidents were former vice presidents who assumed office upon the death or resignation of their predecessor. This historical evidence emphasizes how important it

The whole haphazard scenario of the administrational structure gave birth to a mid level clique of administrators who were virtually unaccountable to anyone in authority for their actions. Following the change in prison leadership in the mid 1970s, the prison experienced a shortage of trained correctional staff. A subsequent investigation by the state attorney general s office found that prison officials began coercing prisoners to become informants in a strategy known as the snitch game . The state s report said that retribution for snitching led to an increased incidence of violence at the prison in the late 1970s. By the end of 1978, this clique of administrators were left to do whatever they wanted to the prison which caused great unrest amongst the inmates and eventually forced them towards mutiny. Another major cause of the riot was the cancellation of educational, recreational and other rehabilitative programs that had run from 1970 to 1975. In that five year period, the prison had been described as relatively calm. When the educational and recreational programs were stopped in 1975, prisoners had to be locked down for long periods. These conditions created strong feelings of deprivation and discontent in the inmate population that would later

Creative industries are defined as having their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent. They typically develop products offered in the entertainment sector such as music, theatre, opera, film, art, broadcasting, etc. Universally seen as a unique type of product, they produce symbolic goodsin the form of experiences, ideas or images. Because their products take the form of an experience or service, they are classified as intangible. Intangible goods are products that have no physical nature meaning a person cannot hold, touch, smell or otherwise handle it. Creative products are also seen as ephemeral, meaning they only last for a certain period of time. Their value derives from the artistic and human talents incorporated in it at the different stages of creation, production, reproduction and distribution. Figuring out why these products are often seen as more difficult means understanding how these particular products are managed compared to their counterpart. Most notably, there is not just one product being produced and sold. When it comes to creative goods, the whole product is composed of several different types. From the seller s point, there is the formal product which is the actual artistic performance itself that is being

Investigation Of The Speed Of A Nerve Impulse INVESTIGATION OF THE SPEED OF A NERVE IMPULSE INTRODUCTION The speed of a nerve impulse is an important aspect of the human nervous system and can be altered by different stimulants. In 1850, Hermann von Helmholtz succeeded in measuring the speed of the nerve impulse. He found it to be much slower than the previously believed speed of 50 to 100 meters per second. This finding was then followed by intensive investigation of the nervous system within the framework of the physical and biological sciences. However modern measurements range from 6 to 122 meters per second, depending on the type of nerve fibre (Jonides, Rozin and Gleitman, 1983). The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. The brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system and nerves form the peripheral nervous system. The nervous system helps all the parts of the body to communicate with each other. It also reacts to changes from both outside and inside the body. The nervous system uses both electrical and chemical means to send and receive messages. The basic building blocks of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system are nerve cells, or neurons. The brain consists of around 100 billion neurons, they are specialized to respond to stimuli and transmit impulses from one part of the body to another. Neurons can be divided into three types, sensory, motor and inter neurons. Sensory neurons pass information about stimuli such as light, sound, touch and heat from both

  • 24. Who Is John Dalton John Dalton (1766 1844) was an English chemist who pioneered the work in the development of modern atomic theory. The idea of the atom was first proposed by Greek Philosopher, Democritus, in 460. His theory was widely ignored because many people believed that because the atoms were too small to see, the ideas were too theoretical and therefore there was no proof of the atoms existence. Nobody continued with the exploration of this until the 1700 s when scientific method was established. Dalton examined many results accumulated by chemists, including Lavoisier and Proust, as well as conducting his own experiments to attempt to discover a logical way to explain the principles of law of conservation of mass and law of definite proportions. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is what was identified as Dalton s rule of great simplicity . He stated that when atoms combine in one ratio ...it must be presumed to be a binary one, unless some cause appear to the contrary . The knowledge of ratios was insufficient, at that time, to determine the actual number of elemental atoms in each compound. This caused Dalton to believe that water was OH and ammonia was NH which is quite different from our modern understanding of the formulas of water (H_2 O) and ammonia (гЂ–NHгЂ—_4). This was a mistake in assuming that all compounds in 1:1 ratio. His atomic weights were also not sufficiently accurate as he stated that oxygen had an atomic weight of seven rather than what eight, which is what we classify it as today. Since the discovery of isotopes, the assumption that atoms of a given element are identical in their physical and chemical properties has been destroyed as some have varying weights. Nuclear fission and nuclear fusion have also disproved the theory that atoms are indestructible and preserve their identities in all chemical reactions. The modern atomic theory has now been modified to reflect the discoveries and knowledge of scientists

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in other shows? This is unfortunately not the case. As explained by several producers, sheer cost from popularity may be bringing down audience attendance. The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime (Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and unable to fill seats forcing them to close. This is why we, as a society, tend to look down on other types of life forms, insect or animal, as they do not possess that desired intellect. Yet, Lewis Thomas, in his opinion essay On Societies as Organisms , argues that humansociety has much to learn from the communal accomplishment of other life forms. The author effectively conveys this main idea through his use of analogy, enumeration of examples and through his level of language. To begin, Thomas astutely uses analogies to make parallels between human society and other life forms as to inform us of our deficiencies when contrasted with those other life forms. Thomas, first of all, defines an organism as being a live computer (233) composed of component parts (233), an accumulation of individuals communicating and working as one towards a common objective. Subsequently, the analogy of the organism is used to represent the ideal human society. Hence, when ants build their nest (233), the Hill (233), humans build their knowledge, accumulate a mountain of knowledge (235). • 46. Frontal Lobe Analysis Every single memory, feeling, movement, ability and action has always started and ended in the same place: the brain. Everyday movements like breathing, yawning, or even reading would not be possible without the brain. It holds the everyday life of a human. Even though the brain holds eight major parts, each part contains its own special abilities to contribute to the actions a body is able to do, from the simplest movements to the most complex thoughts. Each and every braincontains all of the same components: neurons, nerve cells, synapses, astrocytes, and individual sections, mapped out like continents on a globe. Neurons, cells that collect information from nerve cells, are what sends out the collected information to the parts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The function of the cerebral cortex can be understood by dividing it... into zones, much like the geographical arrangement of continents (BrainFacts. org, 2012). One of the divided zones is the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is in charge of initiating and coordination of motor movements, like thinking, planning and organizing. The parietal lobe, which is located in the top back part of your brain, is involved with the sensory processes, attention, and understanding of language. If damage were to be applied to this lobe, there could be severe consequences; damage to the left side would impair the ability to understand spoken or written language, while damage to the right side would result in difficulty navigating spaces. The back of the brain holds the occipital lobe. This lobe is what processes the visual information received through the eyes and helps to identify shapes and colors seen. The last lobe of the brain is the temporal lobe. It is what processes auditory information given. The temporal lobe combines the information from the other senses. In the temporal lobe, emotional responses go through the amygdala, the mass of gray matter inside the left and right hemisphere. The brain is selective when it processes the moments that come through one of our senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. It then sends the experience to the correct part of the brain which then sends out the appropriate reaction to the sense (Ford,

  • 50. It s A Wonderful Life By Frank Capra The performance I encountered was a film released in 1946 called It s a Wonderful Life directed by Frank Capra. The film s setting is post war and tells a story of a savings loan manager who doubts himself and struggles against bigger, greedier, bankers. The original version of the film is in black and white due to the time period. Regardless of the lack of color, the filmis still popular today due to its content and uses of the contrast between light and shadow discussed on page 242 of the text. I was able to critique this film based on the first fake real life snow of its time, historical context of the bank, and the architecture and dress of the time period. The film is set in the time of Christmasin 1945. Do to the fact that the movie
