The first thing a reader notices when reading Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield
is the title. A garden party is a social event, which usually implies friends are
invited, there is eating, and exchanging of social niceties, gossip, and other
conversation; this can be called communion. In How to Read Literature Like a
Professor Mr. Foster states whenever people eat and/or drink together it s
communion and not all communions are holy . An act of communion brings
people together and provides a place for fellowship. A garden party is also a
symbol of wealth, which is also, supported the main character, Laura. She can be
quoted in the following situations; Laura s upbringing made her wonder for a
moment whether it was quite respectful of a workman to talk to her of bangs slap in
the eye and It s all the fault...of these absurd class distinctions . Both of these
statements give proof that in the period this story was set, the wealthy were separated
from the poverty stricken through social class. As a result of the class distinctions, she
was frequently barred from interacting with what was thought to be the lower class.
The question Laura asks herself and others is whether it is acceptable to have a
garden party when a man died and left his family in such poor circumstances. She
is seemingly very distraught when she hears the news, frantically wondering how
she can cancel the party in such short time, this demonstrates compassion, she is
still young enough that she hasn t fully adhered to the attitude of the wealthy.
When Laura confronts Jose with her questions, Jose thinks Laura is being too
dramatic and says that no one expects them to cancel the party. Her mother
behaves, in the same manner, saying, You are being very absurd Laura, people like
that don t expect sacrifices from us. Notice she says people like that as if their lack
of money and social standing is something to be frowned upon, that because they are
not in the same social class they are not worth thinking about or are not deserving of

I will align the genomes of PST 1 and two related Pseudomonas species, P.
chloritidismutans and P. stutzeri (all 98.8% genetic identity5) and identify which loci
are unique to PST 1. I will transform these loci into either the nitrate reducing P.
stutzeri or chloritidismutans. For unique regions in PST 1 stretching across several
kilobases, I plan to use large cloning vectors such as cosmids. I hypothesize that PST
1 will tolerate higher concentrations of iodate compared to the other Pseudomonas,
and upon expressing the PST 1 DIR gene(s) in P. stutzeri or, P. chloritidismutans, I
expect increased resistance to iodate along with the iodate reduction phenotype. I will
ensure that the transformants are showing increased tolerance to iodate by measuring
the conversion of IO3 to I with ion chromatography7
Aim 2: Identify PST 1 Genes Involved in DIR I propose a forward genetics approach
to identify the primary, auxiliary, and regulatory genes involved in iodate reduction.
Sequencing and annotation will provide a reference genome for a random barcode
transposon mutagenesis with next generation sequencing (RB TnSeq) experiment.

in 2013, Target experienced the biggest cybersecurity breach in retail history. Target
had all the correct controls put in place to prevent the cybersecurity attack. In fact, six
months before the attack [Target] began installing a $1.6 million malware detection
tool made by the computer securityfirm FireEye, whose customers also include the
CIA and the Pentagon (Bloomberg, How Target Blew It). Target s security
ignored all
the alerts that went off regarding the cybersecurity attack, and stood by as 40 million
credit card numbers and 70 million addresses, phone numbers, and other pieces of
personal information gushed out of its mainframes (Bloomberg, How Target Blew It).
The Target incident is just one example (of many) that demonstrates the need for
heightened cybersecurity in the business world. Today, there are various disclosure
