1. Television Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Television Essays" presents both an intriguing and
challenging endeavor. On one hand, television is a vast and dynamic medium that has evolved
significantly over the years, offering a plethora of angles to explore. From its impact on society,
culture, and politics to its role in shaping opinions and entertaining audiences, the topic is
expansive and multifaceted.
However, the difficulty lies in navigating this expansive landscape to deliver a well-structured
and insightful essay. Television is not merely a device or a form of entertainment; it is a complex
social and cultural phenomenon with numerous layers that demand thoughtful analysis. The
writer must grapple with the historical evolution of television, its influence on individual
behavior, and its ability to reflect and shape societal norms.
Furthermore, delving into the technical aspects of television production, the rise of streaming
platforms, and the ongoing debates about the effects of excessive screen time adds another layer
of complexity. Crafting a cohesive narrative that seamlessly weaves through these diverse aspects
requires a keen understanding of the subject matter and the ability to synthesize information
from various sources.
Moreover, maintaining relevance in the essay by addressing contemporary issues and trends
within the television industry is essential. The rapid pace of technological advancements and
shifts in audience preferences make it challenging to capture a comprehensive picture without
constant updates and revisions.
In conclusion, while the topic of "Television Essays" is undoubtedly rich and intriguing, the
process of writing such an essay demands a balance between depth of analysis and breadth of
coverage. It is an undertaking that requires meticulous research, critical thinking, and the ability
to present a coherent narrative that engages readers. However, the challenge is also an
opportunity to explore the dynamic world of television and contribute to the ongoing discourse
surrounding its impact on society.
For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of essay writing, various resources are
available. Services like HelpWriting.net provide support in crafting essays on diverse topics,

2. Clemmie Sue In Wrongberight
In the rural southern town of Wrongberight, one of its sixty four residents, vivacious
Clemmie Sue Jarvis, who stands 4 feet 3, and looks as if she weighs less than a
hummingbird, turned fifty nine last week. The townsfolk say she has less sense than
the blessed Lord gave Johnny Homer s jackass. In fact, this dent in her personality
brightens up a dull day in Wrongberight. Today as the townsfolk were entering the
Waylost Baptist Church for Sunday morning service they heard what transpired on
Saturday night and instantly, their wagging tongues began to whisper Clemmie Sue s
name during Preacher Johnathan s sermon. `In the fourth pew from the back sat Blair
Roundsquare, a longtime resident and world renowned author of erotica novellas.
After the service, he attends the potluck and as he mingles, he listens to the gossip,
regarding Clemmie Sue. When he arrives home that afternoon, he thinks about the
unbreakable bond he has with Clemmie Sue. Ergo, he decides to take it upon himself

All too soon she discovers three Mother of Peal buttons missing from the front of

Afterwards, she pulls a bent safety pin, a broken comb, and several rusty hairpins

3. Bransford Schema
Abstract
In this experiment we replicated a study done by Bransford and Johnson (1972).
They conducted research on memory using schemas. All human beings possess
categorical rules or scripts that they use to interpret the world. New information is
processed according to how it fits into these rules, called schemas. Bransford and
Johnson did research on memory for text passages that had been well comprehended
or poorly comprehended. Their major finding was that memory was superior for
passages that were made easy to comprehend. For our experiment we used two
different groups of students. We gave them different titles and read them a passage
with the intentions of finding out how many ideas they were able to recall. Since our

Procedure
The experiment was conducted as follows; first the experimenters greeted the
participants and handed out consent forms to each individual along with a blank
piece of paper. After all the consent forms were signed, one experimenter collected
them. Then the experimenter wrote on the board either the specific title (doing
laundry), or the non specific title (a simple procedure). The titles remained on the
board for five seconds, and then were erased. At that point they were then asked to
listen to a passage:
The procedure is actually quite simple. First you arrange things into different
groups. Of course, one pile may be sufficient depending on how much there is to
do. If you have to go somewhere else due to lack of facilities that is the next step;
otherwise you are pretty well set. It is important not to overdo things. That is, it is
better to do too few things at once than too many. In the short run this may not seem
important but complications can easily arise. A mistake can be expensive as well. At
first the whole procedure will seem complicated. Soon, however, it will become just
another fact of life. It is difficult to foresee any end to the necessity for this task in the
immediate future, but then one can never tell. After the procedure is completed one
arranges the materials into different groups again. Then they

EXPOSITORY Tourists are rejecting the traditional holiday vacations in favour of
experiencing different places and activities. Why might this be?
Family vacations used to be the go to trip for any given time to travel, but as
generations advance the destinations of holiday vacations have evolved alongside
society. The mindset of the world today has caused people to reject traditional
holiday vacations for new experiences. These new experiences can range anywhere
from going to exotic places like Jamaica to Greece to just staying home. There is a
reason for all of this change, such as the lack of financial stability, the increase in
technology and social media, and different kinds of people with their diverse views.
Traveling is expensive, and financial issues have begun to cause the downfall of
most vacations. People cannot afford to go and see their family, so they stay home
on vacations known as staycations. These staycations are a new experience for a lot
of people because they are not going anywhere on their vacation time, which is
unusual for them. One reason for this is that student loans have gone up
tremendously in recent years and before people can worry about going on vacation,
they must pay back these debts. These loans can last a lifetime, and instead of
worrying about them forever they postpone their vacations, so

successive waves of large corporate failures. Furthermore, there have been numerous
attempts to define what constitutes good corporate governance and to provide

be acknowledged that while everyone advocates and wants corporations to maintain
good corporate governance , measuring the quality of corporate governance structures

In particular, the independent judgement of board members is crucial in the
bearing on board decisions to ensure that this goal is achieved. 1. Does the board
comprise a majority of independent directors? Ensuring that a majority of
independent directors to monitor the actions of executive directors helps to address
the potential for, or perception of, conflict of interest of executive director
involvement in board decisions. A good corporate governance structure would
encourage the board to regularly assess whether each non executive director is
independent. 2. Are the roles of the chairperson and chief executive officer (CEO)

counterbalance the power and influence of the CEO in the decision making of the
company s directors. Furthermore, this would enhance the supporting role that may
be assumed by the chairman in being the CEO s confidante. 3. Has the board

Performance analysis in sport is the investigation of actual sports performance or
performance in training which can develop an understanding of sports that can
inform decision making by seeking to enhance or improve sports performance (O

because it can help to improve performance for players and teams. In performance
analysis, there have a few types of analysis that can be use such as notational
analysis, biomechanics and motor control (Bartlett, 2001). In addition, it also can be

8. The Role Of English On The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia
PROSPECTUS
Background of the Project
The role of English in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Languages have a prominent
status in all societies and in all developed and developing countries. The languages
take this status because they are devices for communicating between humans. In
many countries, there is more than one language that the people speak. In the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for example, the Arabic language is the official language in
the country, and the English language is the second language that the citizens speak.
The English language has a remarkable role in various sectors in the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia.

employment system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Al seghayer (2012) asserts,
competence in and knowledge of English opens doors for Saudi citizens and gives
the rank and file employees opportunity for advancement (p.2). The country has many
private companies that are established by foreign people who speak the English
language professionally, and they are demanding employees who speak and write
English. So, English is important to employment in Saudi Arabia.
History of English teaching and methodology: Teaching English in the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia has undergone several changes. The starting of teaching English was in
1925 (Liton, 2012). This starting point was different between public schools and
private schools. First, the government established public schools, and the Ministry of
Education managed them. As a result, these schools do not charge any tuition to the
people who live in Saudi Arabia. The English language was taught from seventh
grade to twelfth grade in public schools. The method of teaching English in public

9. The Enlightenment And The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a change in the hearts and minds of men. It left a significant
impact on the world we know today and gave us great men to remember. The
Enlightenment was a intellectual movement that brought change to the views of
Christianity, the importance of reason, the understanding of nature and humanity, and
the equality of man. Those of the later will be the focus of this paper. Curiosity for
understanding the natural world led to new scientific exploration as well as new
discoveries. The philosophical aspects of the period made their way into effecting
politics from its time and on. The Age of Enlightenmentbegan in the early 17th
century and officially continued into the 18th century. The movement at the time
held high praise for intellectual developments made with its roots in reason. This was
so much so that the movement was also known as the Age of Reason. This basis that
the world and humanity could be bettered through the application of reason spread
from the influence of Greek philosophy1. Greek philosophy played a role in the
development of Scholasticism, which was the questioning of scholarly Christians
trying to solve new philosophical questions2.

were swayed back into those based upon religion. Idealism took over from
Materialism, as religion became the champion of humanitarian reform instead of

The Age of Enlightenment was set to make a major impact in the scientific
community. A new trend had spread across Europe. This was a trend of questioning
what the natural world was truly an inquisitive movement seeking evidence and
proof. Though there were many whom focused on asking of the hypothetical while
answering with philosophical ideology, there were also profound scientist that would
only except undeniable truths of the universe. These profound scientists which either
emerged or made their great discoveries during the Enlightenment did so because of

10. The Argument of Dualism Essay
In my mind, dualism is a more attractive view to take when considering the mind
brain issue. The idea that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of
the physical body is the central point of dualism. One reason it appeals to me is
because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection is another good reason
why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically explains why
the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to
allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that
the mind is a distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any
physical body to which it is temporarily attached.... Show more content on

Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds
the reasoning behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is
basically what makes a person who he is, and controls his actions as a person. The
brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think that introspection is
another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection
was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for
something to eat. If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get
up and get food to eat. I do not think that the brain is capable of having that feeling
of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the stomach being empty, but I
believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing the actual
brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind.
The actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think
my mind is the focal point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device
which the mind uses to carry out its wishes. A third argument for dualism is
paranormal phenomena. Mental powers such as telepathy, precognition, telekinesis,
and clairvoyance are all near impossible to explain within the boundaries of the
physical brain. These phenomena reflect the nonphysical and supernatural nature

1.0 Introduction Climate change has progressively become more problematic for
coastal societies in recent history as a result of elevated greenhouse gas emission
levels across the planet. Increases in sea level and sea surface temperature, as well
as atmospheric pressure accretion, are unnatural effects directly linked to increased
carbon dioxide (CO2) release into the atmosphere. Some of the sources of these
increases have come from the greater use of coal and gasoline for industrial and
transportation purposes. Hurricanes (tropical cyclones), most common in the North
Atlantic region, have intensified due to this global warming . But occurrences of
such events are predicted to diminish (Emanuel, 2011). Hurricanes are expected to
form less frequently in the North Atlantic, but they will become more intense and
powerful over time. As high intensity hurricanes become more common events along
the densely populated eastern coast of the United States, more resilient engineering
solutions will need to be implemented by current generations to reduce their
destructive impact. 2.0 With or Without Rock Seawall vs. Hurricane Sandy On

Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is
heavily regarded as the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard
it as jazz s greatest record and one of the best albums of all time. Along with
redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has been unprecedented.
The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the biggest
influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk,
fusion, indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazzis extremely unique in music, and
Davis s album changed that culture and changed the culture of several different
genres and music itself. To truly understand the massive legacy and influence
created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of jazz all the
way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the
world. Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates
music that is simply incomparable. Originating from the African American
communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz was a fresh new creation heavily
predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass bands playing a
ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated
rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. While not
popular at first, this early form of jazz started becoming well liked and by the 1920 s

California High Speed Rail Anil Hirani Concordia University Austin Texas Dr.

was generally defined as trains capable of travelling at least 150 mph. The origin
of high speed rail in California started in early 1980s, a 130 mile bullet train project
between Los Angeles and San Diego was put forward as assembly bill. Financing
difficulties ultimately led the American High Speed Rail Corporation s (AHSRC)
abandonment of the project in 1984. California high speed rail authority has studied

long distance trips typically of over 200 miles, and a second for intraregional or
commuting trips of less than 100 miles. According to Charles River Association in
2020 the full CHSRA system would capture 32 million interregional train trips.
The total ridership would thus just exceed 42 million trips annually, based on a
two tier fare system designed to discriminate between business and non business
travelers, with train tickets priced competitively at 50 % of the comparable airfare
for each class. The revised business plan issued in 2009 used the same CSI
methodology but tested slightly higher fares. That plan estimated that train fares
set at 83 % of airfare would generate the greatest operating profit. At 83 % it can
attract just over 40 million annual passengers whereas at 50 % it would attract 54

It is a general belief of parenting and caretaking that we must protect children from
all harm and every negative circumstance no matter how naturally occurring from

America have parents that cater to their every need, give them constant attention,
and fill their days with structured activity. This, of course, is not the worst thing you
can do for a young child, but as they get older and the long term effects become
clearer; this type of parenting can cause serious problems for their children s
futures. Perhaps even keep children from growing into successful adults and
functioning members of society. There comes a point in everyone s life when we no
longer have our parents or caretakers to hold our hand through the trials of life, and
everyone should be moderately prepared for that point. For the sake of this essay, I

Nowadays, it s neither politicians nor voters who decide elections, it s the media.
Discuss
In modern democracy the issue of who decides elections is one that is particularly
important to investigate due to the idea that in a perfect democracy, the majority of
power should lie with the electorate, as by definition democracy means the rule of
the people. Whilst much debate about the relationship between the media and
democracy focuses on the role of different types of media, and the media as a
platform, the focus of this essay shall be to analyze the electoral influence of the
independent mass media. In order to be able to decide elections, the media should be
able to manipulate both voters and politicians as they are generally held to ... Show

presidential campaign of 1992, the media and candidates focused on similar issues,
but there was minimal proof that the media were responsible for this agenda
convergence. Therefore, to assert that the media consistently decides elections by
dictating which issues are salient is misplaced. This study shows that even when
public and media agendas align, it is not as simple as stating that this is due to the
fact that media are dictating the agenda. This then undermines conclusions reached
from McCombs and Shaw (1972) in their Chapel Hill research whereby the strong
correlation between public and media agenda was concluded to be a case of the
media directing public opinion.
However, just because the media does not always lead public opinion is not to say
that the role of the media in agenda setting is not important. It is in fact the
disproportionate influence that politicians ascribe to the media which gives the
media some power in being able to influence elections. As Walgrave amp; Van Aelst
state (p.100, 2006), political actors follow media cues in the election period due to
the fact that media coverage is associated with public opinion . In this sense it is
irrelevant that the views of the media and the public are not the same, so long as
political actors consider the media to be a gauge of the public mood. This is
reinforced by Schudson (1996), who argues that the power of the mass media lies not
in manipulating the general public, but in the belief from
21. Duchess Of Malfi As A Revenge Tragedy Analysis
Sr. Deena David

Webster s Duchess of Malfi as a Revenge Tragedy
A revenge tragedy is one in which the tragedy is brought about by the pursuit and
accomplishment of revenge. In other words, its blood asking for blood. The revenge
tragedy was very popular during the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, and it owned
its popularity largely to the influence of Seneca, the ancient Roman dramatist.
Revenge tragedy is different from other tragedies in the sense that the whole part of
the tragedy will be based on revenge. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, though Macduff
kills Macbeth to avenge the killing of his family, the play can t be called a revenge
tragedy as Macbeth himself is responsible for his own tragic end. The Duchess of
Malfi by the English dramatist John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no ghost but the echo from the Duchess tomb fulfils one of the functions
of the ghost of revenge tragedy. The voice warns a doomed man of his danger and,
at the same time, reveals the unknown fact of its own death. The play is sometimes
ridiculed by modern critics for the excessive violence and horror. The severed hands
of dead Antonio, the wax figures of the Duchess children, dance of the mad men, the
appearance of the tomb maker, and the executioner with all the apparatus of death
bring in the elements of horror in the play. In a typical revenge play, the protagonist
directs his revenge towards an unjust action, but the vengeance is followed by a
series of retributions, which ultimately lead to the death of many characters. The
Duchess, Anotonio, Cardinal, Ferdinand, Julia, Bosola etc are all murdered for
revenge. Though it begins as a love story it ends as a dreadful tragedy. The
violence and the horror scenes give it the touch it needs to be a revenge tragedy.
Though all the main characters are dead order is restored at the end. The Antonio s
eldest son is raised to the throne giving a sign of hope to the spectators after all the

The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, by Gabriel MГЎrquez, is related to the
classical theme of human s selfishness verses sympathy. However, MГЎrquez uses
narrative elements such as plot, setting, and different characters, to provide much
more in depth sources of evidence to support his theme.
In The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, MГ
Ўrquez uses an Old Man who is
supposed to be an angel to display human s tendencies to show both brutality and/or
grace depending on the situation. The bizarre, tattered looking man with wings is
found in a town to see a little boy who is sick. After the boy s health improves the

another person were helping someone, let alone an angel who is supposed to be
admired, they would act a little more grateful and show their appreciation. Using a
religious setting emphasizes how the villagers should have acted towards the Old

MГЎrquez uses The Old Man character, or angel, to show how someone is
perceived differently from who he or she truly is. Determining other peoples
actions towards them, whether they are harsh or kind. When reading A Very Old
Man with Enormous Wings, we are never positive as to whether the Old Man is
actually an angel. However, the Old Man carries out miracles for others and has
mysterious wings causing the reader to assume so. The Old Man does not fit the
traditional way the citizens would view a heavenly angel and is considered more
freakily than heavenly. His huge buzzard wings, dirty and

Sophocles Oedipus
You can Run, but you can t Hide
Sixteenth century play writers often focused on the tragic irony of fate. One such
play writer is Sophacles. In one of his later plays, Oedipus , he writes the tragic
story of a man who can t avoid his pre destined fate, and that some things just can t
be changed by the people in your life no matter how hard they try. Oedipus, the main
character of this tragedy, he is a protagonist ruled by conflict and fate. This is evident
in the characters traits and motivations, interactions with others, and the characters
language and what others say about him. Destined to kill his father and marry his
own mother Oedipus is cursed. When people find out about the curse, Laius, the king

He takes pride in his lifestyle and feels as though it is all his own works. He
demonstrates time and time again his undoubtedly remarkable ability to rule the
kingdom. Oedipus was always ready to handle the tragedies of his people. Weather it
was his inherited gift, or adapted wit, Oedipus was always ready to handle any trials
his people faced. He was especially arrogant because he felt he has escaped his
predestined fate.
Similarly, fifth century Athenians struggled over many religious issues. As
humanism grew in Athens, many citizens, particularly those in leadership positions,
saw themselves as increasingly independent of the gods. They questioned whether
their lives were results of fate or free will.
He naively believed he had outsmarted Apollo s curse by running away. This of
course added to his ego. Throughout most of the play, Oedipus was happier
pretending he was an accomplished man with a successful marriage and picture
perfect lifestyle. He chooses to block out inconvenient facts about his past throughout
his adulthood.
Oedipus is motivated in the beginning of the play by his determination to break the
curse of Apollo. He flees his town in hopes of dodging his given fate. This is the
first instance in where readers are able to see his over confident ways. Although the
curse of murdering your own father and marrying your mother is horrific, only
Oedipus would dare to challenge the gods. His motivations as king were to uphold
his feelings of superiority

Counter transference Counter transference can be defined as the occurrence of
unresolved personal feelings of the therapist that are projected unto his or her client.
Sigmund Freud coined the term counter transference in 1910, who viewed counter
transference as the result of the client influencing unconscious feelings of the
therapist (Hayes, Gelso, Hummel, 2011). Research and Common Counter
Transference Issues Sigmund Freud believed that counter transference was
problematic and needed to be managed by the therapist. In his book entitled Future

are some common inventions used to help therapists learn positive coping skills to
deal with positive and negative counter transference responses and behaviors.
Marriage and family therapist have come to perceive the concept of counter
transference as a valuable tool for enhancing the therapeutic process (Gil Rubin,
2005, p. 87). Case studies have proven that therapist who counsel children and
adolescents using play therapy experience counter transference at alarming rates
when compared to those who use psychotherapy to treat adults (Gil Rubin, 2005).
During therapy sessions with children and adolescents, the therapist may not be
aware of his or her personal biases and unresolved emotional needs, which may result
in inappropriate responses or behaviors by the therapist. Over identify, desire to
protect, rescue fantasies, competiveness with parents, and befriending are just a few
of the counter transference response and behaviors therapists have reported
experiencing when counseling children and adolescents. Therapists who also work
with abused women have also reported instances of counter transference responses
such as reluctance to explore abuse related issues, identification with the victim or the

25. The Overfishing Of Our Oceans
Overfishing
The ocean makes up nearly three quarters of the planet s surface and contains
about eighty percent of the life on earth. Millions of people all over the world
depend on seafood heavily as a primary source of food. Americans alone consumed
as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per person in 2009 (NOAA). This is a lot of
fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish are going extinct. At this
particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the earth is
expected to lose all of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing
of our oceans leads to unmanageable practices that will eventually cause many species
of fish to become extinct.
According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when
humans killed off massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp
oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod, herring, and California s sardines, were also
fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s. Theses cases were extremely
harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States
passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA).
This law made it illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the
United States shoreline. This would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress
also established eight regional councils with representation from the coastal states and
fishery stakeholders. Their jobs were to come up

Adivasis are the indigenous population of India who predominantly depend on
forests for their livelihood and identity (references). India has the largest Adivasi
(indigenous) population in the world accounting to 104 million (8.2% of the national
population), yet it took government of India nearly 60 years to acknowledge the
historical relevance of forests for Adivasicommunities through ForestRights
Act,2006 (references). The disregard for Adivasi societies is sometimes reflective
even on community name assigned by the mainstream non Adivasis. For example,
one of the tribal groups in Kerala are known by the name Adiyas (ആദിമ root
word which in Malayalam means slave). Assigning such community names by the
non Adivasis were some of the linguistic illustrations of Adivasi subjugation and
dominance (references). Adivasi are primarily forest dwellers, grazers, agriculturists,
laborers and reside mountain and hilly areas adjoining forest areas (references).
Contrary to the mainstream Hindu communities, Adivasi are egalitarian group
however, they are known to have strict gender roles and responsibilities. Women in
Adivasi communities share accounts of a mutualistic relationship with forests and
natural resources developed through their material and non material pursuits
(references). However, colonial exploitation and historical alienation from ancestral
land has impacted the socio economic balance of the community with many of the
human development indicators spiraling downward

in academic clubs, unusual attendance, and less time for sleep. Do not get it wrong,

31. Compare The Arguments Against Autonomous Weapons
In order to understand autonomous weapons, one must understand the basis of
artificial intelligence (A.I.). At their very core, A.I.s are algorithms (a step by step
procedure based off of mathematical data) that can handle tasks which human
intelligence requires. This means they are able to do reasoning tasks like problem
solving, prediction, diagnosis, and so forth. On the contrary, the A.I.s portrayed in
films and fantasy novels often involves machines that demonstrate human level
intelligence. To put this into perspective, there is a scenario where an A.I. is
assigned to drive a car from point A to point B with a separate car accident between
the points. A realistic A.I. would still try to drive the car from point A to point B
because its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stuart Russell, the director of the Center for Intelligent Systems at the University
of California, Berkeley, raises two points to consider as support to banning
autonomous weapons: developing A.I. weapons better than human soldiers and
the availability of A.I. weapons (Russell, 2015). To put differently, human soldiers
can decide whether or not to shoot someone like a civilian in an extreme
environment. An A.I. weapon would only act within its algorithm. So unless the
algorithm accounts for every possible scenario, it will produce unfavorable results.
However, a game theoretical formulation by G. Arslan and J.S. Shamma
invalidates this. Russell stated an A.I. is restricted by its algorithm, so it cannot
like a human in complex scenarios. But here, it s possible for the A.I. to make
much more complex decisions with negotiation mechanisms. An example of this
is a young boy, strapped with a bomb, walking towards a squad of soldiers. The
soldiers are preoccupied with other things, so they did not notice the boy. The
autonomous turret, near the soldiers, recognizes the explosives and prepares to
shoot the hostile. The turret s A.I. is only able to distinguish the difference
between lethal and nonlethal targets. However, if a drone with an A.I. built to
identify age was there, it can prompt a more favorable scenario. It can stop the
turret s A.I. from killing the boy and proceed to two different courses of action.
The turret s A.I. can shoot the boy in a nonlethal spot to neutralize him or alert the
soldiers of an incoming child. From there, the soldiers can either talk some reason
to the kid or disable him. Referencing back to Arkin s point, this is considered the
optimal level of human control. The A.I.s makes it easier to accomplish certain goals
but the hard decisions are left for humans to make. Also, this allows for more human
control in a sense since there are more algorithms

Socio economic and socio political are the main force to the steadily growth of new
middle class in China and become a major component of Chinese population . Many
scholars explained the significant of middle class as the supporter of democratization
and democratic as Barrington Moore s famous quote no middle class, no democracy
However, the structure of Chinese society is very complex since China has its own
characteristics which differ from other. The idea of China s expanding middle class
will be a major driving force for political change and democratizationmay not be
worked. I disagree with this statement due to the following reason;
Many Chinese middle class still lack awareness on politics and property rights.
They are concern more on individual rights and personal interests. Beyond, Chinese
government has spoiled various privileges to middle class. CIS report that 72% of
Chinese citizens are satisfied with the conditions and 75% thought that citizens do
not need to participate in politics . They focus more on personal interests and better
life. Most of middle class believed that individual rights need to be protected for
example guarantees of the rights to education, to work, to free information, etc. With
the higher standard of living possesses the Chinese middle class with all material
bonds, they tend to ignore the political awareness and participation .
Although some Chinese middle class may speak of democracy, but it has display at
low levels in real life.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski,
is one of the most influential pieces of cinema in the disney movie franchise. The
movie was well received by the majority of people that viewed it. However, not
everyone was as impressed with the movie, like film critic Roger Ebert for

gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The
article focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush,
Jack Sparrow and Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable
performance of Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment
of his review bashing the action scenes and deeming them pointless based on the
plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert believes the movie was decent, but went on
for far too long, calling it, a nice little 90 minute B movie trapped inside the 143

There is an argument to be made about Roger Ebert s rollercoaster ride of a review
on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, especially concerning his
opinions on the performances of some of the actors and the fighting. While the
performances of Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp were indeed marvelous, Roger

There are times when it seems that Helga is unknowingly saying these thoughts out

The relationships formed on their journey, however unconvincing or bizarre some

is an unsettling account of a young woman s descent into psychosis, where Plath
focuses on the individual, whilst exploring how Esther regards relationships and
how they influence her search for her own identity. In a similar fashion, Helga Crane

nature of Helga s relationships with others as a way of expressing her distance from
the rest of society. There are several fundamental similarities between the two
characters that are interesting to note: they both feel isolated and misunderstood, they
both wish to reject the prejudices of society (whether it be towards women, African

The biggest thing I learned about other writer is that even professional writers

that I do not have the right writing style, I think I have low self confidence in my

power. This authority shift led to the creation of nations, which are groups of people
unified by common descent, culture, or language, a particular country or territory.
Consequently, the ideology of nation building, which can be defined as the process of
building or rebuilding state institutions to create a sustainable and legitimate state,
became widespread . When Latin America got involved in nation state building,
territorial expansion brought about social issues with the lingering Spanish
Portuguese colonial influence and hierarchical distinctions based on race. Colonial
legacies were partially responsible for why economic standing was associated with
cultural background; this relationship contributed to conserved inequality that
favored elites. The best lands were distributed to the decedents of white men, while
people of other cultural backgrounds ended up as national minorities that faced
discrimination. With such a drastic gap in the social hierarchy because of
disproportionate land distribution, an ever more exclusive society, made of American
born European descendants known as creoles, emerged. The creoles undeservingly
established economic and political dominance over the mass population , and
obtained power under conventional meaning: when a person or organization that is
strong or influential within a particular context; bearing in mind most people think of
this type of power

Canada s northern territory, the Northwest Territories. The Inuik people that lived in
the Northwest Territories were the reason behind the motivation for the separation.
After a long hard process, filled with agreements and disagreements, Nunavutwas
finally declared its own territory and was separated from the Northwest Territories.
Nunavut, which in Inuktitut means Our Land , was the first significant change to the
map of Canada since Newfound land and Labrador joined confederation in 1949.
The idea of separating the Northwest Territories to create a new territory dates back
to the 1950 s. The non aboriginals of the Northwest Territories in the Mackenzie...

A year later in 1981, MLA s asked the people of the Northwest Territories Do you
think the NWT should be divided? On April 14, 1982, 56.6 percent of the people
who voted voted to support the idea. Over the next 10 years boundaries were agreed
upon and disagreed upon.
In December 1991 the federal government reached an agreement with the Inuit on
their land claims, with the Parker line set as the boundary between the existing
province and the new one. February 1992, executive council set May 4 as the date
for the Northwest Territories to vote on the proposed boundary that was known as
the Parker Line . This was approved in a referendum in late May. That same year
later in November, the Inuit approved the Nunavut final land claim agreement.
November 3rd to 6th, 85 per cent of Inuit beneficiaries voted to accept the terms of
the proposed Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. The agreement was signed by Paul
Quassa of the Tungavik Federation of Nunavut in Iquilat on May 25th, 1993, with
Priminister Brian Mulroney and the Northwest Territories government leader, Nellie
Cournoyear both present. It was then later read into law as with the Nunavut Act on
July 9th, 1993 by the Parliament of Canada. This marked a significant landmark in
the history of aboriginal self governance.

45. Richard Wright s Black Boy
Black Boy is an autobiography written by Richard Wright from the age of four to his
early twenties. Right from the beginning of the novel, Wright faces violence both
mentally and physically. Violence is a theme that reoccurs throughout the novel
frequently. To further understand why Wright acted violent and why he used
violence so many times in the novel, three biographies were used. The biographies
used as a lens to explore the meaning and importance of Black Boywere The Negro
Artist and the Racial Mountain by Langston Hughes, The Enduring Importance of
Richard Wright by Milton Moskowitz, and Richard Wright Biography from
Biography.
At the beginning of the novel, Wright set a curtain in his grandparent s house on
fire. He had did this act out of curiosity and boredom. After he realizes he was
wrong to do this, he runs and hides, out of fear of what the consequences were
going to be. When he is found, we are shown the first glimpse of physical violence
that is inflicted upon Wright. Wright tells us, I was lashed so hard and long that I
lost consciousness. I was beaten out of my senses and later I found myself in bed,
screaming, determined to run away, tussling with my mother and father who were
trying to keep me still (Wright 7). From this we collect that not only was Wright
scarred physically from this act of violence, but he was also scarred emotionally.
This scene is a double act of violence; one act was what his parents had done to him,
and the other is him lighting
