Comparison the play “Hamlet” and “The Old man and
the Sea”
STORY OF HAMLET
 Hamlet’s character was very serious and
mysterious character of the play
 The situation of Hamlet is very critical because he
hurt by his mother’s remarriage after still his father
death.
 He didn’t accept his mother remarriage. He thinks
that why she married yet her husband had died
earlier.
 Some time after he meet Ghost. The Ghost told reality to
his father death is not a natural death but it is a murder
by his uncle.
 Than he decided to take revenge of his father death.
 When he thinks about how he can revenge to his uncle
because, he was confuse that what Ghost is wrong or
right. That time drama company came in his court and he
meet them and told the real story of king Hamlet.
 That he make a plan for taking revenge and he creat the
drama of his father death.
 The drama over that Claudius look very nervous
that Hamlet conform that the murderer is Claudius.
 Than he created the situation of his madness and
unfortunately he killed Polonius.
 After knowing the news of polonius death that
Ophelia became to mad, she always sing old songs
and after she dead by drown river.
 The death of Ophelia and polonius, this news
knowing by Leartes that he decided to take
revenge. That Claudius and leartes make a plan for
Hamlet's death. Than he make a fight with Hamlet
and Leartes.
 After finishing fight Gertrude, Leartes, Claudius and
Hamlet were dead.
STORY OF “OLD MAN AND THE SEA”
 Santiago is a old and ordinary fisherman. He is too
unlucky that for 84 days, he has gone without catch
the fish. That other fisherman tone him.
 His student manolin inspire him everyday. He tells
to Santiago tomorrow is 85 day your unlucky term is
over that you go to center sea and catch many fish
that Santiago go to center sea.
 Santiago set fishing ropes than after the big fish
bite his rope. Santiago realises that fish is Marline
(the valuable fish in Cuba). Santiago struggle with
Marline and after he kills Marline with his harpun
and strapped with the side of bote.
 The Sharks has attracted Marline's blood. That sharks
came and feed Marline. Than Santiago fight with sharks,
he kills some sharks and after he throw his harpoon to kill
shark that he lost his harpoon.
 The 3rd day Santiago come to Cuba that other fisherman
helps him and appreciate him. The fish is almost feed by
sharks but mandolin and other fisherman are inspired
with the spirit of Santiago.
COMPARISON OF THE PLAY HAMLET AND THE OLD
MAN AND THE SEA
SUICIDE THEME IN BOTH THE PLAY :
 In Old Man and The Sea, we find that suicide theme as
we know that when Santiago was going to fishing but his
misfortune he didn't catch fish last 84th days.
 Whan he return his home, Manolin inspired him because
Santiago broke down because his friend and other
fisherman has caught many fish everyday.
CHARACTER OF HORATIO AND MANOLIN
 Both are the character is important on the play
Hamlet and Old Man and the Sea. Both are working
as a inspirable teacher because of Hamlet every
were Horatio support Hamlet, when the Ghost
would meet the Prince hamlet that time Hamlet was
confuse Horatio try to inspire him. To find the
murderer of his father.
 We also find in Old Man and The Sea that 84th day
of unlucky of Santiago blamed himself but Mandolin
inspire him and tell that you can do this, Once upon
in time you catch big fish.
HAMARTIA IN BOTH THE CHARACTER
“HAMLET” AND “SANTIAGO”
 We find the element of Hamartia both the play. The
main character Hamlet, we find many time
Hamartia, the seen of Ghost, murder of Polonius,
suicide of Ophelia, intrigue of Claudius, Leartes
fight, death of Hamlet.
 In Old Man and the Sea when the Santiago doesn't
catch fish in 84th day without any one fish. We find
that Hamartia.

Comparision between the novel of 'Hamlet' and 'The Old Man And The Sea'

  • 2. TOPIC : Comparison the play “Hamlet” and “The Old man and the Sea”
  • 3. STORY OF HAMLET  Hamlet’s character was very serious and mysterious character of the play  The situation of Hamlet is very critical because he hurt by his mother’s remarriage after still his father death.  He didn’t accept his mother remarriage. He thinks that why she married yet her husband had died earlier.
  • 4.  Some time after he meet Ghost. The Ghost told reality to his father death is not a natural death but it is a murder by his uncle.  Than he decided to take revenge of his father death.  When he thinks about how he can revenge to his uncle because, he was confuse that what Ghost is wrong or right. That time drama company came in his court and he meet them and told the real story of king Hamlet.  That he make a plan for taking revenge and he creat the drama of his father death.
  • 5.  The drama over that Claudius look very nervous that Hamlet conform that the murderer is Claudius.  Than he created the situation of his madness and unfortunately he killed Polonius.  After knowing the news of polonius death that Ophelia became to mad, she always sing old songs and after she dead by drown river.  The death of Ophelia and polonius, this news knowing by Leartes that he decided to take revenge. That Claudius and leartes make a plan for Hamlet's death. Than he make a fight with Hamlet and Leartes.  After finishing fight Gertrude, Leartes, Claudius and Hamlet were dead.
  • 6. STORY OF “OLD MAN AND THE SEA”  Santiago is a old and ordinary fisherman. He is too unlucky that for 84 days, he has gone without catch the fish. That other fisherman tone him.  His student manolin inspire him everyday. He tells to Santiago tomorrow is 85 day your unlucky term is over that you go to center sea and catch many fish that Santiago go to center sea.  Santiago set fishing ropes than after the big fish bite his rope. Santiago realises that fish is Marline (the valuable fish in Cuba). Santiago struggle with Marline and after he kills Marline with his harpun and strapped with the side of bote.
  • 7.  The Sharks has attracted Marline's blood. That sharks came and feed Marline. Than Santiago fight with sharks, he kills some sharks and after he throw his harpoon to kill shark that he lost his harpoon.  The 3rd day Santiago come to Cuba that other fisherman helps him and appreciate him. The fish is almost feed by sharks but mandolin and other fisherman are inspired with the spirit of Santiago.
  • 8. COMPARISON OF THE PLAY HAMLET AND THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA SUICIDE THEME IN BOTH THE PLAY :  In Old Man and The Sea, we find that suicide theme as we know that when Santiago was going to fishing but his misfortune he didn't catch fish last 84th days.  Whan he return his home, Manolin inspired him because Santiago broke down because his friend and other fisherman has caught many fish everyday.
  • 9. CHARACTER OF HORATIO AND MANOLIN  Both are the character is important on the play Hamlet and Old Man and the Sea. Both are working as a inspirable teacher because of Hamlet every were Horatio support Hamlet, when the Ghost would meet the Prince hamlet that time Hamlet was confuse Horatio try to inspire him. To find the murderer of his father.  We also find in Old Man and The Sea that 84th day of unlucky of Santiago blamed himself but Mandolin inspire him and tell that you can do this, Once upon in time you catch big fish.
  • 10. HAMARTIA IN BOTH THE CHARACTER “HAMLET” AND “SANTIAGO”  We find the element of Hamartia both the play. The main character Hamlet, we find many time Hamartia, the seen of Ghost, murder of Polonius, suicide of Ophelia, intrigue of Claudius, Leartes fight, death of Hamlet.  In Old Man and the Sea when the Santiago doesn't catch fish in 84th day without any one fish. We find that Hamartia.
