Solution:
Procedure:
1. HyperMesh is used to solve the problem. Meshing has been done manually by creating
elements as shown in fig1.1.

2. Putting constraints at the left nodes of the plate as SPC and at the right nodes using
SPCD.
3. Applying displacement at the right nodes.
4. Displacement at node 5 has been determined by selecting the node from the HyperView.
5. After the analysis being completed I got the results.
Results: Graphical representation of the results are shown in fig 1.2 to fig 1.6. Hence, the
displacement at node 5 is .002 m.

Conclusion: From the results it has been found that the stress are same all over the rectangular
plate. The material is steel and it’s a ductile material and Von Mises stress are same all over the
plate, so it satisfies the patch test. The structure shows rigid body displacement.
Solution
Procedure:
 Meshing is done as shown in fig 2.1 taking the quarter of the whole plate because of
symmetry.
 Putting constraints at the left side and bottom side of the plate.
 Force is applied at the right side of the plate. The calculated total force is 62.5 N.
 Results are got after the completion of analysis.
 From the HyperView the graph between stress vs distance y from the hole is plotted as in
fig 2.3.

Results: From the analysis I got the value of maximum principal stress is 2.368 x 10-2 N/mm2.

Conclusion: Stress is maximum at the hole of the plate. This is because of notch effect. From
the results we can say that as the distance increase, the value of the stress decreases.

Verification of patch test for plate using HyperMesh-Optistruct

  • 1. Project 2 Course No. ME 5040 Course Title: FEM I Student Name: Suravi Banik Access ID: fz4276 Student ID:004529012
  • 2. Solution: Procedure: 1. HyperMesh is used to solve the problem. Meshing has been done manually by creating elements as shown in fig1.1. Fig 1.1 Meshing
  • 3. 2. Putting constraints at the left nodes of the plate as SPC and at the right nodes using SPCD. 3. Applying displacement at the right nodes. 4. Displacement at node 5 has been determined by selecting the node from the HyperView. 5. After the analysis being completed I got the results. Results: Graphical representation of the results are shown in fig 1.2 to fig 1.6. Hence, the displacement at node 5 is .002 m.   • 5. Conclusion: From the results it has been found that the stress are same all over the rectangular plate. The material is steel and it’s a ductile material and Von Mises stress are same all over the plate, so it satisfies the patch test. The structure shows rigid body displacement. Solution Procedure:  Meshing is done as shown in fig 2.1 taking the quarter of the whole plate because of symmetry.  Putting constraints at the left side and bottom side of the plate.  Force is applied at the right side of the plate. The calculated total force is 62.5 N.  Results are got after the completion of analysis.  From the HyperView the graph between stress vs distance y from the hole is plotted as in fig 2.3.

  • 7. Fig 2.3 Graph between stress vs distance y from the hole Conclusion: Stress is maximum at the hole of the plate. This is because of notch effect. From the results we can say that as the distance increase, the value of the stress decreases.
