Vasíli Kandinsky was a Russian painter who originally studied economics and law but also took up art. He was influenced by Postimpressionist and Jugendstil styles after discovering painters like Monet and Rembrandt. Kandinsky went to Munich at age 30 to study art further where he met and became close friends with Paul Klee. He traveled throughout Europe before World War 1 broke out, after which he returned to Moscow and later Germany where his work changed significantly during his time at the Bauhaus art school.
