Smartphones are mobile phones that offer advanced computing capabilities and connectivity beyond basic voice calls. They were introduced in 2002 and provide digital voice services, text messaging, and access to the internet, emails, apps, and video/camera functions through 3G or 4G data plans. Research has found that despite smartphones' rapid growth, little data exists on usage patterns. Smartphones make connecting with others cheaper through social media and calling apps but are expensive to purchase and repair. While costly, smartphones are very useful as they allow constant access to information and communication tools.
