Convergence By: Jacky Lopez p.2 Mr. Verduzco
What is convergence? The dictionary definition for convergence is, the occurrence of two or more things coming together. In technology they use this to combine everyday things and makes them more useful. For example before you just had a cell phone to make calls and maybe send text messages, now you have a phone that can check your email and is able to go online. That is one example of convergence. Cell phones in the late 80s early 90s This pocket pc was made about 15 years later in the 2000’s
Three examples of Convergence? Three examples of Convergence are the new cells phones with internet (black berries, pdas, pocket pcs) Lap tops with built in wireless detecter and built in webcam. And the last one would be an iPod touch.
Cell Phones, Pocket Pc, Black Berries, Etc. This phone is a pocket pc so it’s a mini computer it lets you check your email go online pick up wi-fi take and send pictures through text messages or email. And it still has all the regular functions of a phone.
Lap Tops They are portable computers that allow you to have a video conversation with their built in cameras and they are also wi-fi capable so you don’t always have to stay on one place.
iPod Touch Flash memory (8 or 16 GB) WiFi capabilities Safari Web browser Audio, video and photo storage and playback YouTube video player Calendar and contacts that synch with your computer Clock and calculator applications Access to the iTunes Music Store via WiFi Dock and headphone connections
Is Convergence good or bad? In many ways it helps us buy less things but it also makes us lazier. Instead of having a conversation you choose to text or email someone.
