Less than 10% of learners are completing MOOC courses due to a lack of community, evaluation methods, and teacher involvement. MOOCs provide open and free educational resources to a global learning community without borders, but online tests and credentials need improved verification. While course authors fill the role of teachers, the teacher-student relationship is missing without direct interaction and feedback. New technologies and ideas are emerging like CIHLO to enhance MOOCs beyond online courses by reintroducing elements of a traditional classroom experience.
