How to Extend Microsoft SCOM to Monitor & Diagnose the Performance of Citrix,...eG Innovations
Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) is a leading platform for performance monitoring and management of Microsoft applications (such as Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange Server, IIS and SharePoint). However, SCOM does not have extensive capabilities to monitor non-Microsoft systems and applications (like Citrix, SAP, Oracle, Java, Sybase, etc.), nor does SCOM have virtualization-awareness for platforms like VMware vSphere, Citrix XenServer, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, AIX LPARs and Solaris LDOMs, or virtual desktops (VDI).
To extend the scope of Microsoft SCOM to manage these environments, enterprises have to look at multiple third party products that provide individual management packs, one for each specific non-Microsoft platform. This traditional "multi-pack approach" creates complexity and only provides a fragmented view of the IT infrastructure. This approach leads to slow problem isolation and diagnosis, and often results in poor user experience and loss of user productivity.
Join performance monitoring expert Srinivas Ramanathan (CEO, eG Innovations) to learn about eG Enterprise for SCOM, a new universal management pack that fills this gap and provides a single, integrated solution with SCOM to address the performance management needs of today's enterprises. This webinar presentation will show you how to:
• Monitor and troubleshoot the entire IT service infrastructure end to end from the SCOM console
• Monitor applications and platforms not natively supported by System Center Operations Manager
• Instantly diagnose and get actionable insight into IT service health and performance
• Provide automatic, rapid root cause diagnosis for even the most complex performance problems
• Receive proactive problem detection and alerting before users call
• Maximize the return on your investment in System Center Operations Manager

VMware Horizon with F5 BIG-IP vs. Citrix XenDesktop with Citrix NetScalerPrincipled Technologies
Many enterprises use Application Delivery Controllers to balance the load on their VDI servers and to provide other capabilities. In our tests, we found that the solution with VMware Horizon and F5 BIG-IP was roughly three times quicker to set up and install than a competing solution, Citrix XenDesktop with NetScaler. The VMware-F5 solution was also more cost effective, saving up to 15.7 percent per concurrent user. These findings make VMware Horizon and F5 BIG-IP a very compelling choice.

The Path to Streamlining and Automating Data Center OperationsVMware
Streamlining and automating data center operations can help organizations experience increased resource utilization, greater infrastructure availability, and sharply reduced capital expenditures. Traditionally, relying on manual efforts and point solutions to manage operations can lead to issues like lack of visibility, idle resources from over-provisioning, unanticipated capacity shortfalls, and unpredictable bottlenecks. VMware customers achieved improvements like a 25% increase in operational visibility, 2.7x increase in infrastructure utilization, 25% average productivity gains, and a 40% reduction in problem detection and resolution time through streamlining and automating their data center operations.
V mware virtualization design and deploy servicesolarisyougood
Here are the key points about the networking design:
- Software-defined networking with NSX provides network virtualization and automation.
- Logical "valves" segment and secure each network feed/connection point.
- Leaf-spine topology with distributed routing scales the network backbone.
- Edge cluster hosts gateways that securely route north-south traffic between corporate network, DMZ, and internet.
- Payload clusters focus on east-west workloads with isolated tenant networks.
- Management cluster provides centralized management and control plane.
The design logically segments and secures all network traffic flows while maintaining flexibility, performance, and scalability. Let me know if any part needs more explanation!

Enterprises’ transition to cloud computing is not simply about outsourcing or applying old technology to new IT processes. It signals a shift in how IT is designed and delivered. Cloud Computing’s ultimate value is realized by significantly reducing lead times needed to enact business change. And, to realize this value a new approach to modeling the new “virtual” data center infrastructure should be considered.
The virtual data center ushers in a shift towards:
Business-driven policy, control, and management of IT services and applications
Automated assembly, control, and coordination of application resources
Simple, reusable libraries of application components, connectors, and their lifecycles
... all facets that need to have a consistent, standardized, and comprehensive representation in a declarative data model. Yet this model must remain flexible enough to accurately capture the diversity and complexity of a modern IT operation.
VMware introduced several new features in vSphere 6 including increased scalability limits, usability improvements to the vSphere Web Client, enhanced vMotion capabilities such as cross-vCenter and long distance vMotion, expanded fault tolerance support, and the introduction of vSphere Virtual Volumes and its policy-based management framework. Key networking updates included Network I/O Control version 3 and multiple TCP/IP stacks. Storage features focused on Virtual SAN enhancements, Storage DRS integration, and support for VASA 2.0 storage capabilities.

Latin American corporations are interested in including the renminbi in transactions with Chinese companies, but regulatory hurdles in Latin American countries related to currency controls make adopting the partially-controlled renminbi difficult. A recent transaction between a Brazilian toy retailer and a Chinese manufacturer using renminbi showed benefits but wider adoption is hindered by currency regulations in Latin America and a historical preference for U.S. dollar transactions. Expanding renminbi investment and trade programs between China and Latin America could help increase use of the Chinese currency in the region.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Analyst Viewpoint
“Over the last five years, the number of alerts annually generated by event and
performance systems has increased, on average, by 300% […] The next five
years will see a significant acceleration in that growth rate due to the
dynamic nature of new IT infrastructure”
“The spread of virtualization and cloud computing has added a new volatility
and dynamism to the IT stack. Old-style event correlation and root cause
analysis technologies based on a structured, static understanding of topology
relationships between IT infrastructure components fail to keep up with the
new dynamics.”
“IT operations teams that […] effectively adopt emerging IT operations
analytics technologies can achieve at least a 10% reduction in IT service
outage minutes.”
“Early Stage IT Operations Analytics Could Reduce IT Service Outage Minutes”
by Debra Curtis, Will Cappelli and Jonah Kowall published March 30, 2012.

Lots of new versions in this launch:

So let’s talk now about vCenter Operations Management Suite
This slide highlights the key value proposition associated with vCenter Operations Management
Our focus with VCOPs is to Deliver a self-healing, self-regulating cloud suite to reduce OPEX & CAPEX and improve SLAs
We do that by delivering a solution that is:
<CLICK>
Tightly integrated with the rest of the VMware vCloud Suite to manage the Software Defined Data Center
<CLICK>
Comprehensive capabilities that provide you the ability to manage heterogeneous cloud environments including virtual and physical – private, public and hybrid cloud environments based on both VMware and non VMware technologies
<CLICK>
And finally a rich set of automated capabilities that address the critical tasks associated with building and running cloud computing environments
VC Ops: highly automated and integrated analytics platform and ops console for hybrid cloud
Capabilities available today
Visibility into multiple clouds (point out variants)
Heat map showing health of VMs that comprise a service or pertain to a VDC – here a DB VM in an AWS cloud dashboard. Drill into performance issue and isolate potential root causes. vC Ops bubbles up metrics acting abnormally and overlays interrelated perf/cap/config Looks like Oracle is having memory issues. In Q4 we will have actionable recommendations on how to solve issue.
vC Ops can also govern compliance across multiple hybrid clouds
IT can create dedicated policies and templates for internal guidelines or industry regulations for each cloud, and can collect data for OS instances from all clouds - key capability to gain and maintain visibility and control of hybrid cloud.
Integrated perf/cap/config in context of building performance issue – in this case a registry change that you can right click to remediate (in context in VCM)
Track and get detailed compliance reports against these policies – prioritized by severity of issues breached
Prevents drift from central configuration management policies
Enables rapid widespread analysis as compliance policy changes
– understand what magnitude of impact you are facing across the hybrid cloud
With one right-click you can enforce compliance centrally to remediate or exclude specific compliance rules not satisfied.
Fine grained control: add exceptions, view history of changes, administer on a per machine basis, etc.
Analyze and enforce quickly across many levels: from individual VMs to the entire managed heterogeneous IT infrastructure.
Self-service experience – intuitive consumerized and customizable cloud portal
User/Org. Awareness – specific and unique business context for each user request
Multi-vendor Orch. - Coordinates multi-vendor technology; Enables best of breed solution
Automation – Built-in automation provisions virtual, physical and cloud
Dynamic cloud interface – Dynamically generated RESTful API gives programatic access/control
Cloud Service Costing – Cost allocation and charge/show-back across infrastructure/storage/BU/etc.
Intelligent Resource Mgmt – Discover and manage existing environment; provide resource efficiency across entire lifecycle
Storage admins have similar issues as VI admins – lack visibility
Solution overview – VC Ops perf + capacity analytics coupled with in depth VNX statistics
Sales motion – included / sold with VNX, upsell to full VC Ops suite
First solution of its kind but representative of broader strategy to add extensibility to VC Ops and encourage innovation using its rich analytics and powerful visualizations
