This document provides instructions for using MarcEdit software to perform batch editing of bibliographic records. It describes MarcEdit's useful tools for batch editing such as count fields, find/replace, add/delete fields, copy fields, and edit indicator and subfield data. It then provides step-by-step examples for how to use each of these tools to edit MARC records in a batch, such as taking text out of titles using find/replace, adding and deleting fields, copying data between fields, and editing field indicators and subfields. The document concludes by describing how to add an online journal link with an ezproxy to a holding record to provide access to the full text.

3. MarcEdit useful tools for batch editing:
 Count fields
 Find/Replace
 Add/delete field
 Copy field
 Edit indicator data

4. Before using MarcEdit, you should already have the file that was saved
in the format: xxxx.mrc. For example:

5. Open MarcEdit:
1. Click on the MarcEdit icon and select MarcEditor.
2. Go to File. Click Open.

Example:
Select GaleRefEbook.mrc, Click Open.

7. The opened file is a readable Marc file:

8. Field Count: use this report to find:
1. The total number of records in the file.
2. The total occurrences of a particular MARC field.
Go to Reports. Click Field Count.
Example: Field 029: 25 occurrences. Found in 25 records.
C. Click OK when you finish.

1. Go to Edit, Click on Replace

1. Delete a field. Example: Delete 029 field.
i. Go to Tools. Click Add/Delete Field.
ii. Enter 029 in Field box. Click Delete Field. “25 fields were deleted.” Click OK.
Click Close.

A. Go to Tools. Click Copy Field.
B. Enter 590 in the Source Field box. Contents in Find in Field box.
C. Enter 690 in the Destination Field box. Check Delete Source Field.
D. Click Copy. Click OK. Click Close.

1. Click on Tools, Edit Subfield Data.
2. Enter 856 in Field box. Enter u in Subfield box. Enter http://find.galegroup.com in Field
Data box.
3. Enter http://find.galegroup.com.ezproxy.cpcc.edu in Replace with box.
4. Click Replace Text. Click OK. Click Close.

Add online journal web link with your library’s Ezproxy to the journal’s holding record in the
catalog, and make them online full text accessible.
*In our library, we use Journal Finder. For example, search: “Journal of Nursing Education” in
Journal Finder.

--Copy “Link to the Publications” URL and add it into the journal’s holding record in your
library catalog.
*EBSCO has updated all of our subscribed journal titles with our library’s Ezproxy.
