Dockerizing apps for the Deployment Platform of the Month with OSGi - David B...mfrancis
OSGi Community Event 2016 Presentation by David Bosschaert (Adobe) & Carsten Ziegeler (Adobe)
Docker is enjoying immense popularity today for deployment of nearly any type of app and new platforms that support Docker appear on a regular basis. While supporting Docker natively, many platforms have specific APIs to get them to work. As a dev you don’t want to lock yourself in to any of these. You want to keep the option open to switch to target platforms if the need arises. This talk outlines the OSGi Compute Management Service RFP 179 that abstracts over mechanisms to create and launch container nodes. It shows a system that allows you to swap Docker deployment platforms without the need to change your deployment management code. We’ll also talk about how OSGi Cloud Ecosystems RFC 183 can be used in this context for discovery of services, containers and frameworks.

In this session you will learn what the motivations were for a dockerless approach and how Podman and Buildah enhance Red Hat OpenShift. With so many distributions of Kubernetes it’s important to know when and why you should decide to use Red Hat OpenShift in a world where having choices, while maintaining confidence, is becoming more critical than ever.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, ABP (ASP.NET Boilerplate) is a framework for building modular and maintainable enterprise web applications. It is built on top of the ASP.NET Core framework. If there have been updates or changes to ABP.io since then, please refer to the official documentation for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Here are general steps for setting up an environment for ABP.io development. Please note that these steps may vary based on the version of ABP.io you are using, and it's always a good idea to check the official documentation for any specific details.
Prerequisites:
Install the latest version of Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.
Install the .NET SDK. You can download it from the official .NET website.
ABP CLI (Command-Line Interface):
ABP.io provides a CLI to streamline the development process. You can install it using the following command:
bash
Copy code
dotnet tool install -g Volo.Abp.Cli
Create a New ABP.io Project:
Use the ABP CLI to create a new project. Navigate to the directory where you want to create your project and run:
bash
Copy code
abp new MyProject
Configure Database:
ABP.io supports various databases. Configure your database connection string in the appsettings.json or appsettings.<Environment>.json file.
Run Migrations:
After configuring the database, run migrations to create the necessary database schema:
bash
Copy code
cd src/MyProject.EntityFrameworkCore
dotnet ef database update
Run the Application:
Navigate to the project's root directory and run the application:
bash
Copy code
cd src/MyProject.HttpApi.Host
dotnet run
Access the Application:
Open your web browser and navigate to the URL specified in the console output (usually https://localhost:44300).
Explore and Customize:
Explore the generated code and start building your application. ABP.io follows a modular architecture, and you can add modules, services, and components as needed.
Remember to consult the official ABP.io documentation for any version-specific instructions or updates. The steps provided here are based on general practices as of my last knowledge update.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
