This document discusses several types of media and how they fulfill different uses and gratifications according to uses and gratification theory. It discusses how movies provide entertainment through compelling plots and action scenes, as well as social interaction by providing topics for discussion. Magazines allow identification with celebrities, education through insights, and entertainment from reading gossip. Documentaries educate and inform audiences about nature and issues while fostering social interaction. Social media like Snapchat facilitates quick communication and social interaction through sharing stories and talking to friends and others with common interests.
2. One type of media I enjoy watching is the movie
Deadpool. This movie is fun to watch because as the
main character is very comedic and it has good
action scenes.
Movies
This media includes an entertainment purpose as it
keeps your attention through out the whole movie acting
as a form of escapism because it is engaging.
The movie also creates social interaction purpose because it is
something that you want to discuss with other people , it makes
you want to ask others if they have seen it as well or what they
thought of this movie, making It a conversation topic.
3. Magazines
A type of media people can identify with is magazines. This
is because people can look up to role models from different
industry's like music and film making who are sometimes
used to model for some magazines. As an example the
singer Rihanna has been used as a model for magazines.
This then appeals to an audience that looks up to her
because they view her as a role model.
Magazines also appeal to the audience by containing some
positive insight on famous figures that can them to develop
their own identity. For example the quote in bold on the
Rihanna magazine about wanting to be fearless may inspire
one of her fans to be like her as she's seen as a role
models to them.
4. Magazines can also act as a type of entertainment. I
sometimes read a magazine to pass time as they
have different topics such as fashion, makeup, and
gossip.
I like to read about the latest gossip because I find
other peoples dramas amusing, such as two
celebrities having a feud over something
insignificant.
I also like magazines as they give information about
the latest's trends (e.g: fashion) that can be shared
and talked about with friends which could also
possibly start debates with people who may not like
the trend becoming a topic of a social interaction.
5. Documentary's
A series I watched once was called “the blue planet” which was
narrated by David Attenborough. This is a 50 minute documentary on
the worlds oceans and the different species and habitats that live in
it.
This media both educates and informs people of the different species under the
sea that we do not know about and some rising issues such as climate change
which then effects these communities. The narrator captivates your attention by
informing the audience of interesting facts about life under the sea with light
jokes to keep it interesting. It shows very vivid footage to fascinate the watcher
intriguing them to continue watching by zooming in on the small details.
This can also create a social interaction as a person watching this may bring up
facts or issues they have learned such as climate change and how its affecting
habitats of different species and start conversation with people who may have
similar interests/concerns
6. Social media
For social interaction I mainly use snap chat as it
is one of the quicker ways of communication to
talk to friends because it is widely used.
This media allows me to text, send short
videos/pictures and view peoples story's which is
where people upload clips and pictures of what they
are doing so their friends can see.
This media can also be used to talk to new people for
example u can become friends of friends who may
have similar common interests as you causing social
interaction.
