This document provides a summary of the first lecture in a US history survey course. It lists indigenous groups and locations that were present in North America before European contact, including the Mesa Verde in the southwest, Wampanoag in the northeast, mound builders at Cahokia in the central US, Aztecs in central Mexico, Iroquois longhouses in New York, Haida and Tlingit in the Pacific Northwest, and the Maya at Chichen Itza in southeast Mexico.
