Urbanization is the process of populations moving to urban areas. Throughout history, most people lived rurally but engaged in farming and hunting, but urbanization increased over time with just 3% living urbanly in 1800 and over 50% in cities by 2007. Urbanization occurs for jobs, proximity to water for trade, locating factories near water, and improved education opportunities. Pakistan is urbanizing rapidly at 3% annually with Karachi as a prime example, growing its population 80% from 2000 to 2010.
