Institutional means are
the processes that have

structures such as the
government, school,
church, and even family.
Cultural goals consists of values and norms
that are important for the society.

achieving them.

with socially accepted conventions or
standards.
Examples of Conformity:
1. Studying diligently (institutional mean) to
pass all exams (cultural goal).
2. Working hard (institutional mean) to get
promoted by the boss (cultural goal).

This involves accepting the goal of success
but rejecting the use of socially accepted
means of achieving it, rather, coming up
with other unconventional (at times,
illegitimate) means.

1. make a “kodigo” (institutional mean)
to pass all exams (cultural goal).
2. Spreading malicious gossip against
co-worker (institutional mean) to get
promotion (cultural goal).

understanding that value of punctuality.

establish a socialist system in the country.
