IMEI and Sensea Maritime Academy are jointly
creating one stop solution for maritime training in
East India where a world class facility will be provided
to the budding as well as existing seafarers and protect
them from the ruckuses that is going on in the
industry. Our objective is to make a facility which
would be a benchmark for the industry.
3. Institute of Marine Engineers (India)
The Institute of Marine Engineers is premier body representing marine
engineering professionals from India. The Institute actively provides facilities to
further enhance knowledge of members and extends a wide range of services
encompassing from professional growth to welfare of members. Initially the
Institute of Marine Engineers existed in India as a division of Institute of Marine
Engineers, London. Thereafter, The Institute of Marine Engineers (India) was
registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 29
October 1977. The first Governing Council of the Institute was formed in 1980.
The Institute was subsequently registered as a Charitable Organisation under
Bombay Public Trust Act 1950 on 31 May 1982.
The Institute of Marine Engineers (India) [IME(I)] was established on 29th Oct,
1977 under the The Society Registration Act 1860 and also has been registered
with the Office of the Registrar Mumbai Public Trust, for Greater Mumbai Region,
Mumbai according to Mumbai Public Trust Act 1950. The Institute has its
Branches at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Goa and
Pune and Chapters at Navi Mumbai, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Patna, Chandigarh,
Karnataka and Rajasthan.
4. IMEI’s OBJECTIVES
To promote the scientific development of Marine Engineering in all its branches
and in the furtherance of knowledge
To enable Marine Engineers to meet and interact for the exchange of ideas in
these areas
To publish and communicate information on these subjects by way of Technical
Seminars and Conferences
To have working relations with similar professional bodies all over the world
To assist the Indian Administration in the Competency examinations providing
external examiners for Engineers Competency Certificates, by conducting NCV
Engineers examinations, by Training candidates as per STCW Convention for
such certificates / examinations and for further revalidation of their Certificates
and by providing Members for approval of Maritime Training Organizations
To cooperate with Universities and other Educational Institutions for the
advancement of education in marine engineering and allied subjects, including
research
To provide the expertise of its Members for Consultancy to the Maritime Industry
5. IMEI’s SCOPE
Development & Conducting preparatory courses as approved by the Directorate
General of Shipping for Certificate of Competency and also conducting the
knowledgeable additional Value added courses as per the requirement
Publish the Marine Engineers Review India, Our Monthly technical journal since
1982
Publish iMélange (in-house magazine of the Institute) since November 2022.

8. Sensea Maritime Academy
Sensea Maritime Academy, one of the oldest Maritime Training Institute in the East
was started way back in 1999 in Shakespeare Sarani and continued operations there
until 30th Sept 2019. The need to expand and provide better infrastructure led to the
formation of the present campus which started its operation in 2017. Presently this is
the only registered campus of Sensea Maritime Academy where all the Directorate
General Of Shipping approved courses are conducted. Since its inception, the institute
has been constantly expanding its range of offered maritime courses and presently
stands as one of the premiere institutes in the region.

The institute holds approval of DG Shipping, A1 Grade CIP Accreditation by
IRS and DNV certified ISO 9001:2015. The institute is constantly expanding its
range of offered maritime courses and presently stands as one of the premiere
institutes in the region.
Due the rich legacy and excellent performance of the Institute in the field of
Maritime Training the Institute is a proud partner for various shipping giants
for providing Value Added courses.
The Trust has been rendering these services since 1998 for the last 25 years in
the domain of Capacity building and training of various IMO approved courses
and other company specific courses to the Maritime Sector of the country.
The institute currently is one of the leading institutes in India for providing
Maritime Training conducting Basic Safety Training for about 2100 candidates
per year which is the highest in India.

An institute is to be constructed in an area of 11000 sq.ft comprising of
3000 sq.ft for Simulator
400 sq.ft for each (MEO Class II, MEO Class I, RUT, ETO)
1500 sq.ft for cookery
1500 sq.ft for mess room
1200 sq.ft for conference room, exam room & Admin department
1200 sq.ft for faculty room
1500 for other office works

17. Roadmap
Finalizing the area where the new institute will be developed
Getting into a formal agreement if the area is leased or getting
the Construction done as per DG Norms if the area is owned
Accordingly arranging the teaching aids/equipments required for
the courses and likewise preparing for DG Inspection
Obtaining approval from DGS to conduct the desired courses
Working regularly in an efficient manner to improve the
performance of the institute and ensure better learning for the
candidates
18. Final Outcome
IMEI and Sensea Maritime Academy will be creating
an Institute jointly where the seafarers will experience
the most innovative and finest learning
