Harlem Renaissance the Hip Hop Movement
Harlem Renaissance and the Hip hop Movement
AN OVERVIEW The Harlem Renaissance and the Hip Hop Movement are a culmination of co related
cultural art forms that have emerged out of the black experience. White people understood black
people more through their expression of art during both movements. Both movements brought about a
broad cross racial following and, ironically, in both instances brought about a better understanding of
the black experience for white America. The bridge between Be Bop and Hip Hop was made by
Quincy Jones with the Back on the Block project; which featured such artists as Dizzie Gillespie,
Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Tevin Campbell, Ice Tea, Big Daddy Kane, Al B Sure,
Barry White and many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rent parties allowed for the residents of Harlem and other poor ghettos to pay their rent on time and
avoid eviction. The rent party also represented the way that African Americans overcame the
oppressive surroundings of the ghetto. For example, in Rent Party Jazz , written by William Miller, a
jazz musician gives a rent party in order to raise money for a certain family in need. In this way, rent
parties not only assisted people in paying the rent, but it also helped the growth and development of
jazz as a music genre. Through jazz music and the celebratory nature of the parties, a community was
built. [3] [4] The Harlem Renaissance arguably lasted about 15 years and is said to have ended with
the onset of the Great Depression. The European American infatuation with the Negro declined in the
1930s, in large part due to the collapse of the stock market. Also, the depression exposed the economic
vulnerability of Harlem, given that much of the real estate in Harlem was owned by European
Americans; and when the depression hit, African Americans lost their jobs at faster rates than
European Americans, caused foreclosures on mortgages, evictions from rental properties, and a
depression and alienation from the American Dream that was expressed violently in the first modem
race riot,

The Musical Gyspy
Gypsy Gypsy is a musical that captured the attention of the audience with incredible music and a
rollercoaster of a storyline. Gypsy was loosely based on the life of Gypsy Rose Lee, a famous
striptease artist at the time that the show was written. The character of Louise is based on Gypsy Rose
Lee and the character of June based on her sister, June Havoc. Gypsy is about a mother who tries to
have her two daughter perform onstage and make it in show business. In the end you find out that the
mother was just trying to live her dreams through her children. In Act I, the daughters audition to play
in the vaudeville circuit that goes around the United States. There mother, Rose, is pushing them to be
the best they can be but normally only focuses on June and not Louise. Rose convinces Herbie to be
the manager for the girls after she takes her fathers plaque to use for money. As time goes on the act
that the girls perform stays the same and is losing interest. Herbie gets Mr. Goldstone, who represents
the Orpheum Circuit, to have a contract with the girls and the newsboys which gives the act a new
name. Soon after Herbie proposes to Rose and she rejects. Herbie tells Rose that he will leave but
Rose refuses to be believe that he will ever get away from her. The act eventually gets to the Orpheum
Circuit and June is offered a place in a Performing Arts school, but Rose rejects the offer. Soon after

The Leadership Styles On Display
In the workplace, there are many leadership styles on display but how do I handle working with a
manager whom I feel I cannot trust. On the other hand how do I respond differently to a manager
whom I believe is trustworthy? And, last we will discuss which do I prefer and why. When working
with a boss whom I do not trust, I tend hold back on giving them my real opinions. I usually keep my
commits, concerning day to day activities to myself. I m not sure if they will turn my commits or
opinions around and try to use it against me in an evaluation. I also feel when your manager is not
worthy of your trust, it creates a somewhat hostile working environment because you are always
looking over my shoulder to see what they are observing. Another issue is not being able to go to them
for guidance. I just close the communication line and work on my own program, which makes my task
even harder to accomplish. And I become less creative due to the fact I don t trust my boss will be
open to change. Negative emotions, like decreased work performance, are created when there lack
confidence in leaders of an organization. Some negative emotions foster anger, depression, sadness,
worry, tense, regret, and jealousy (Zineldin M., 2012). If I m working for someone who I know doesn
t have my best interest in mind, it makes me very uncomfortable, causing me to be less productive. I
will only do the bare minimum required. It s hard to invest in someone who can t be trusted, there is

Cause And Symptoms Of Alzheimer s Disease
What is Alzheimer s disease?
Alzheimer s is a disease that erases the memory of people quietly. People will have difficulty in

It will damage the brain by a protein which will abnormally form amyloid plaques and tan tangles.
The damages to the brain probably exist more than 10 years before cognitive problems occur which
means it is symptom free during preclinical stage. At beginning, damage happens in hippocampus,
affects the forming of memories. Then, after more neuron is died and more parts of brain are affected,

level of abnormal protein amyloid beta (A beta). It will change the behavior of a cholesterol carrying

When tested on mice that brain was full of A beta, only hours after, the A beta level fell. Later on, 25%
reduced after hours and 75% reduced after 14 days. The reverse of A beta level was significantly. The
testing mice also started to be no longer have memory loss since mice used to have Alzheimer s were

Per use Costs (Variable Costs) are the single amounts that it costs each time we use specific resources.
What can be done to lower the budget and reduce the project s duration?
There are many things that we, Empire Island Convention Center, can do to lower costs to help bring
the bar of the budget lower. One way is to cut back in the human resource sector. We can assure that
all work is done within an eight hour day to reduce the costs of over time. Also, we can hire seasonal
or temporary workers to reduce our work force numbers.
As far as lowering the costs in regard to our Utility services, we can install light switches that are
motion sensored. Each unit (conference room) can have its on power source so that when rooms are
not in use, electricity is not overburdened.
Reducing the duration of the project may prove to be difficult. Each Seminar (Convention) is based on
a case by case basis as stated previously. Each client may entail variations in timing. Each client is

Jackie Robinson Influence
One of baseball s greatest, Jackie Robinson, once said, A life is not important except in the impact it
has on other lives. Jackie Robinson was the first African American man to play in the Major League
Baseball. Jackie Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers throughout his baseball career as number
42. The great baseball player was faced with many acts of racism, but through it all he continued to
play the game he loved. This is the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African American man to play in
the MLB.
Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest out of five
siblings, Mack Robinson, Willa Mae Robinson, Edgar Robinson, and Frank Robinson. Jackie
Robinson attended John Muir High School, Pasadena Junior College, and UCLA. At UCLA, Jackie
Robinson won varsity letters in four different sports baseball, football, track and field, and basketball.
One major influence that Jackie Robinson had in his life was Branch Rickey, the former president of
the Dodgers. Branch Rickey was a big influence because he is the one that brought Jackie into the
MLB, and he was there for Jackie when he faced racism. Throughout his life, Jackie Robinson s main
hardship was racism. During his time period, segregation was something that burdened every African
American. Even once he was in the MLB he would receive racism from even his own teammates. He
even received things like death threats. Jackie Robinson is respected because throughout all this he

Allusions In Of Mice And Men
Have you ever wondered if anyone in the world has the same personality, traits as you? Do you think
they have done similar things like you? John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men shows a similarity
between characters in Genesis 2 and in the novella. As Emma Lee states in her article, Five reasons
that the Bible will help you understand Of Mice and Men , Steinbeck makes allusion to The Garden of
Eden as it s presented in the story of Genesis 2 when Eve was deliberately compared to Curley s wife
as both suffered terrible consequences. Steinbeck makes these allusions with the sole purpose to show
the comparison of the different characters in The Garden of Eden and Of Mice and Men. Moreover,
the characters are similar in the way they represent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George and God for example, they both gave instructions in what not to do. George told Lennie for the
start they met Curley s wife that she s a jail bait and a rat trap. In other words, George is wanting
Lennie to stay away from Curley s wife because she s no good, she ll tempt him and get both Lennie
and George in trouble. Likewise in The Garden of Eden, God specifically told Eve not to eat from the
forbidden tree. However, both Lennie and Eve don t meet the criteria of following the rules and they
end up facing the bear consequences. This allusion is shown between George and God and that they
gave rules, to follow to right path but it didn t succeed. Moreover, the story of Cain and Abel is yet
another allusion to Of Mice and Men, specifically about George and Lennie. Based on, Five reasons
that the Bible will help you understand Of Mice and Men by Emma Lee, His(Cain s) question to God
once he has killed his brother is Am I my brother s keeper? This quote demonstrates that Cain has
killed his brother Abel, which is similar to when George kills his brother Lennie. The reference to my
brother s keeper can be true for George as he is the keeper of Lennie. Steinbeck used allusion from
biblical ideology wanting the story to be so much more than just a story, that They help us see that the
novel is not just a simple story, but something with a great deal of

Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger...
Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way
in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also
tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling,
they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The
population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and
separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other
hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While
yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if
one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury
house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated
from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these
stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a
reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the
Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100
years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district

The Cause Of Destruction In Walden By Henry David Thoreau
What exactly does it mean to ruin something? Ruin is defined as the physical destruction or
disintegration of something or the state of disintegrating or being destroyed. In the Romanticism
literary period, we see how they appreciate the things in life like nature; however, in today s society,
we ruin many things such as, nature by building things that are unnecessary or littering. People need to
learn to respect and admire nature. If we would live based on the ideas out of Walden by Henry David
Thoreau, we would live a simple life and we would learn to appreciate nature and admire the beauty of
it. Often, more times than not, we take things for granted. We are too busy with our lives today to stop
and just let the little things settle in for a minute. In a few of the writings, we even see how nature is a
relaxer and helps different people cope with things or calm them down. Nature is vital to life; it
influences where we live, who we are, and it also provides us with support. Numerous amounts of
people do not understand what we do and the affects of what we do until it is too late. Throwing trash
out of a car window might not seem like a very big deal, but in reality it builds up time after time and
it starts to ruin the prepossessing things we have life. Take pride in the world we live in. Help ... Show

The Balance Of Power
11. What is balance of power ? The balance of power was a concept or idea in the eighteenth century.
By the eighteenth century, the European method of self governing independent states was established
greatly in the idea of self interest. Since international connections were based on deliberation of
power, the eighteenth century concept of a balance of power was grounded on how to counterbalance
the power of one state by another one to stop anyone s power from controlling over the others.
However, this balance of power did not indicate a wish for peace. Huge armies were created to protect
a state s security were sometimes even used for offensive motives as well. 12. Who were Austria s

There Basic Concepts That Guide An Individual Throughout
There basic concepts that guide an individual throughout life. Self belonging is incorporated within
those rules. However, what role does culture play in self belonging? It is a very important concept,
they are interdependent aspects of self fulfillment. The importance of recognizing the values of
different opinions toward fulfilling self actualization in society is expressed in the social identity
theory. Thereof, valuing any religion fortifies the comprehension of culture, and freedom of religion
aids in establishing societies self identity.

Culture and Social Identity Theory
Phua (2004) associated culture as an aid in social and economic progression. Thus, culture does not
inhibit or deteriorate social expansion. So if schools do not provide funding for such growth in cultural
variety. It then promotes a single ideation throughout its organization. Much like a dictator promoting
one single view point. It is in a sense allowing the government to dictate what society seems fit in
those states. Thus, schools should not dictate whom they provide aid to specifically in determining
majors of their students. It is hindering their growth and their right to express how and whom they
choose to believe. Although clause 14th establishes that states also should not dictate whom they aid
in regards to religion, the base of the problem relies on interpretation (Watson, 2015). Basically, social
interpretation of the amendments. Religion and Social Identity Theory
As for religion and social identity, it is the same as culture and social identity. Religion is part of a
culture which focuses on combining such ideations into one. It helps in the aid of social structure. If

Anti-War In Ambrose Beirce s Chickamauga
Chickamauga by Ambrose Beirce is a story based on the theme of anti war. The author also adds a
sense of reality vs. fantasy in the story. The story is told from the point of view of a young child whose
character is associated with a race of people born to war and dominance as a heritage. As a result, the
child creates a wooden sword and pretends to fight off invisible enemies just like his ancestors did.
Unfortunately, the child is too young to understand the realities of war and he only associates war with
bravery. The perception of the young child throughout the novel isn t very reliable. Often times the
narrator would intervene and draw a contrast between the child s perspectives vs. an adult s
perspective. For instance, when the child

How Did George Washington Carver Made Out Of Peanuts
George Washington Carver George Carver was known as the peanut man because of all the things he
made out of peanuts like flour, milk, dyes, and cheese. When he was in his neighborhood his
neighbors would come to him to help them with their ferns. When he took them into his garden the
ferns would bloom. At that point of his life he didn t know what botany was and he could barely read.
Carver grew up to be a well known person in history back then and even today. George Carver was
very famous for the things he made out of peanuts when the soil was hard to farm in. That was how he

Objectives Of A Balanced Scorecard
Introduction The balanced scorecard consists of four critical performance measures that managers can
use to align their company s initiatives with organizational strategy. It is one of the most important
developments in management accounting, particularly in strategic planning and control because it
offers a balanced view of how non financial and financial measures can be casually linked together
(Shutibhinyo, 2014). The purpose of this research paper is to provide a brief history of the balanced
scorecard, the components of a balanced scorecard, and finally an in depth comparative analysis of
how two companies use the balanced scorecard to meet its strategic objectives.
Origins of the Balanced Scorecard Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton developed the first balanced
scorecard in the early 1990s. Kaplan and Norton identify the balanced scorecard as translating an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides
the framework for a strategic measurement and management system (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The
balanced scorecard is a tool in which managers can focus attention on four critical performance
measures: financial perspective, customer perspective, process perspective, and learning and growth
perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). However, the first balanced scorecard that was published did
not demonstrate to managers how the four strategic objectives fit to form the company s overall
strategy. In other

The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution
In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on
God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that
defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of
received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution
began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of
heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then
falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific
method. Scientists impacted all fields of science from cosmology to biology. The fields of
mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their
fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for
understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry,
it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the
universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices.
Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded because
of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. In the French language, raison is the
word in french for reason and also the

Whale Hunting In America Case Study
**Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non
endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption?**
In America, it is believed that whales and dolphins are mammals who are intelligent, are capable of
learning, and should have the right to be free (Brain Power). Because of this, and as a superpower, the
U.S. is able to use their economic influence to ban the killing of these mammals (Culture and
Globalization). Norway and Japan, whose fishing and whale hunting traditions go back centuries,
believe they should have an exemption from this whale hunting ban on cultural grounds, especially
since the whales they hunt are not endangered and therefore there should not be an environmental

The economic impact of whaling on small fishing villages is an important consideration because a

Dancing At Lughnasa Analysis
Brian Friel s play Dancing at Lughnasa uses the effect of absence and presence to create a heartfelt
and tense memory play set in Ireland in the summer of 1936. Michael lives with his mother and four
aunts, along with his Uncle recently returned from Africa. Friel s choice to have an absence of a strong
family unit is important and it will be considered how this sets the tone for the play. Next, this essay
will go on to examine the way the characters unfulfilled desires add to the overall effect of the play.
Poverty is apparent in the Mundy household and through the presence of hardship Friel represents the
socioeconomic environment in Ireland. Continuing to consider the Ireland represented in the play this

Market Research Essay
Market Research
Market research is carried out by a business before they launch a product, to find out what the target
market wants and what they could do to increase the appeal of their product. It involves thoroughly
gathering, recording and analysing data and can often take a large amount of time. A wide variety of
market research techniques are used to find out what customers want. Depending on the product,
customers are asked questions like: Where are they? Can we satisfy them? How can we improve our
product for them?

* Test marketing/product testing: This is when a product is marketed and tested by a small part of the

what changes can be made to the product to make it better or more suitable.
* Consumer groups/panels: This is where a select group of people are give a product and asked to

However, if they stayed on the raft, a schooner or an airplane could see them in the middle of the sea.
Unlike Phillip, Timothy thought differently. He believed if a reckless tide came in, they would be in

Sex, Rhetoric, And The Public Monument
Read Sex, Rhetoric, and the Public Monument by Irene J. Winter. What is the main argument of this
article? What evidence does the author use? Do you agree with the author s argument? Why or why
not?
Chiseled in stone yet standing high upon the apogee of a mountain, a sexually seductive sovereign can
be found. Though supposedly neither human nor god, he remains just barely within arm s reach of the
rays of divine sunlight. He is unwavering both in his alluring, dominant stance and his brutal authority,
especially compared to his enemies, one which lays mercilessly beneath his firm feet, with a spear

Thus, the archetype of Naram Sîm shows to be the epitome of the perfect male for which other men
strive to embody.
This concept is conveniently backed by the elders of Naram Sîm, who were successful in claiming that
these attributes came in the form of being divine. This claim to divinity literally underpinned their
ascension to power and the relegation of everyone else; rulers were to be revered for their beauty and
power because it was truly their god given right. Alas, Winter argues that the sexual allure of the ruler
s body firmly functions was a mechanism to continue aggrandizing their own status and dominance.
Winter succesfully notes that this dominance and power was also preserved by what we would call
propaganda. In regards to another period of art, Winter suggests that aesthetic pleasure can serve as
the vehicle by which a highly seductive ideal vision is articulated for the citizen viewer . In regards to
the stela, the viewer sees an image of an audacious, virtuous hero, the signifier which may have
instilled and preserved the distorted perception of hierarchy. Though the idea of being an alpha male is
nothing new at this point in history, it does become physically stamped into history, used to gain
loyalty between the ruler and the ruled.
However, this belief was not exclusive to just the king and his subjects, but also between

A unique ability that a company acquires from its organizers or developers and that will be not be

develop a company s core products and services, those products and services that will gives the
business a competitive advantage over and over to other businesses and are significant for the long

advantages, in creating and delivering value to its customers in its chosen field. Also called core
capabilities or distinctive competencies. Core competencies are usually not only limited for a single
process, but it for a combination of processes, technologies and skills. Core competency arises from
the integration of different shares of the business, such as design with technological innovation. For
example, Apple s sleek design, coupled with innovative products and Sony s ability to reduce

unfortunately it was more like a nightmare because there was money in his pocket from where the

Chapter 58 of Isiah
Chapter 58 of Isaiah marks an important change in cultural values due to the humiliation brought
about by the Babylonian invasion around the 6th century B.C.E. Gone are the days of good and evil
being simply defined as that which coincides with Yahweh s will, and that which doesn t. Now, Isaiah
tells the people that simply following the current ways of sacrifice aren t enough, and instead calls for
social justice (Chilton, 200), and, in a sense, attempts to invite a return to pre monarchical social
structuring. This new morality value system aims to upset the existing post monarchical Israelite
social structure, whilst also invigorate a new, post exilic, collective Israelite national identity. Thus, let
us begin by examining the political, social, and literary motivations behind this Book.
We must first realize that the Book of Isaiah can be divided into three blocks (1 39, 40 55 and 56 66),
and each are starkly different in tone, theme, and delivery (Chilton, 189). Chapter 58 belongs to the
third block, and thus, does not dabble in the same interplay between doubt and reassurance, and
confident, hymnic affirmation in response to the uncertainty of people (Chilton, 198). We can see this
new tone clearly in the 4 opening lines. Shout out, do not hold back! Announce to my people their
rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins (Isaiah, 58). When compared against the more emotionally
vacillatory first and even the second block of Isaiah, the third block is conveying a

Reflection On The Treatment Of Prisoners
Our society tends to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of prisoners. Despite what they have
committed and how severe it may be they are still human. We look at them as if they are inhumane
because they are in prison. They still deserve some of the rights that they had before being convicted. I
m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay with them having a
little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be reconsidered. I think
that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain amount of time outside
which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of
right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in
prison for years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a
phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be
reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to. I also
think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do for work. In doing so, this will solve
some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result in less cruel punishment of prisoners.
There are things that can be changed that will solve a lot of the issues that guards may have with the
prisoners. Prisoners are not allowed to do many things.

The Reality Of Real World
With an increasing amount of technology invested in virtual reality, real life is now merging with a
fictional world that can be created and manipulated. Another manner in which the real world is
capable of joining a manufactured world is through the usage of comic books. Real world events have
been and are continuously mixed up with the lives of superheroes such as when heroes were depicted
fighting against Hitler and the Nazi s in World War II. There are two main types of representations of
real world events and that is through indirect representation using allegories and metaphors and
directly representing them by simply showing the incidents within the comics. Comics represent real
events more efficiently through allegories as opposed to directly having those situations intertwined
within the stories because of several reasons including that it gives readers an opportunity to reflect on
certain events if they see the connection between the comic and the event. However, they are not
forced to see the reference such as when the event is clearly illustrated within the story because this
would retract a reader s ability to escape from the real world to a fictional world. One comic that has
an indirect representation of current events is Marvel s Civil War. The story starts off with a group of
rookie superheroes that are attempting to capture some villains. Resulting from the clash, there is a

Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing place
to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city upon a hill, a
mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of. A key ingredient
to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a whole, which was
created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided leadership for all facets
of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain hierarchy was very apparent
in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to have gotten their way. ... Show

In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the colony
because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire trial Anne
was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down and
admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but she
never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop, along
with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her banishment.
Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy Governor that Anne
went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the covenant of works to their very
faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied nothing, while admitting nothing.
Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested to the probability of her saying this of
the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than admitted to being of the same mindset of the
ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment.
It is my understanding that Anne s type of mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in
Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over between Puritans discussing religious topics such as

The Addict Was Best Known As The Lieutenant
1.BACKGROUND:
The addict was best known as the Lieutenant. He lives in New York City and is a male who I presume
to be in his mid forties. His marital status is perhaps married with two sons and one daughter. He
worked for New York City Police and was the Lieutenant of the department. Some issues he
confronted when he engaged in substance abuse was driving under the influence while on duty and
anger when losing baseball bets.
2.DRUGS USED: The Lieutenant used, cocaine, alcohol, and heroin. He usually took four lines of
cocaine, two through each nostril. In approximately two occasions, he used freebase cocaine. The
cocaine was heated up and the vapor was inhaled. The amount he administered was perhaps two
sessions during each of the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also experienced several occasions of withdrawal when using cocaine. For instance, the next
morning after getting high with the red hair women, he woke up in the living room on a couch with
extreme fatigue, slow movements, and instability to hold himself still. Moreover, the lieutenant
engaged in substance use that was physically hazardous. He drank alcohol and sniffed cocaine while
driving. He was listening to a baseball game, but got upset after realizing the team he was betting for
was losing. The cocaine and alcohol altered his attitude which led him to engage in reckless driving
and shoot his radio with a firearm. His occupational duties were also reduced because he is constantly
using drugs. He was heavily drinking at a bar watching a baseball game he placed a bet on.
Consequently, the drugs led him to pay more attention towards the game instead of actively fulfilling
his occupational duties. By being able to identify six or more symptoms, the severity of his substance
use disorder is severe.
4.CHEMICAL REACTION/MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Due to the influx release of serotonin alcohol produces, the cerebral cortex is damaged and impairs
one s ability to learn, make informed decisions, and retain information. Glutamate is an additional
neurotransmitter extremely susceptible to alcohol. Glutamate affects memory and is the reason why
some individuals experience loss of remembrance when consuming large amounts of alcohol.

John Napier was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on February 1, 1550. His parents were Sir Archibald
Napier and Janet Bothwell. Napier came from a wealthy family. His father was a landowner and his
mother was the daughter of Francis Bothwell. Napier was also known as Jhone Neper, which came
from his latin name Joannes Neper ( John Napier Biography ).
Napier was sent to St Salvator s College at the age of 13, because of his intellectual mind. He gained
curiosity in the subject theology. Theology remained very important to him, although he left college
before he could even receive his degree. After leaving college, many believe that he traveled the world
to further his education. When he returned to Scotland in 1571, he met a girl and married her a year
later. He started a family soon after ( John Napier Biography ). ... Show more content on

He spent almost twenty years inventing logarithms. He invented logarithms by continuously working
out very complicated astronomy math problems. He felt as though there should ve been an easier way
to get an answer ( Famous Mathematicians )
Napier invented two treatises, Description of the Marvelous Canon of Logarithms and Construction of
the Marvelous Canon of Logarithms. In the first treaty, he explains how he thought they would work.
In the second treaty, he explains the method that he used to create logarithms (Encyclopedia
Britannica ).
As Napier grew older, theology was still very important to him. People even thought he knew how to
do magic, simply because of what he believes in. People also thought he was strange due to him
putting a black spider in a box so he could carry it with him while traveling (Famous Mathematicians
). Before Napier passed away he moved back to Edinburgh, Scotland. There, he continued to invent
things such as Napier Bones. Napier Bones was similar to a calculator which he made out of ivory. He
also created a device called the burning mirror (Famous

Game Theory In Water Resource Management
1. Introduction
Water resources management is involved with various beneficiaries that may have conflicting interests
(Veeren Tol 2003; Wei et al. 2010). Game theory based models have been used in water resources
management to address water conflicts and are recognized as appropriate methods (Wei et al. 2010).
Game theory and its mathematical background were proposed and used in economics for the first time
by Neumann and Morgenstern (1953). Different forms of games have been suggested by many
researchers to address water conflicts alongside other conflict resolution methods such as Graph
Model for Conflict Resolution (GMCR) (Kilgour 1995), Adjusted Winner (Massoud 2000), and Fuzzy
Cognitive Maps (Giordano et al. 2005). Game theory based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many studies using game theory based methods have been carried out in water related fields and, most
importantly, in water resources management. Rogers (1969) applied a range of strategies in the mold
of cooperative game theory between India and Pakistan over flood control issues of lower Ganges and
Brahmaputra rivers. Young et al. (1982) compared the separable costs remaining benefits (SCRB)
method with simple proportional allocation schemes such as Shapley value and Variants of the core,
both belong to cooperative games family. Dinar et al. (1992) used cooperative game theory to question
reasonableness and acceptability of cooperation in the use of irrigation water. Parrachino et al. (2006)
published a review of different applications of cooperative game theory considering various water
uses such as multi objective water projects, irrigation, groundwater, hydropower, urban water supply,
sewage disposal and transboundary water disputes. Raquel et al. (2007) applied game theory to a
groundwater conflict in Mexico and tried to balance benefits from agricultural production with
negative environmental impacts among 12 alternative groundwater extraction scenarios. Mahjouri and
Ardestani (2011) developed cooperative and non cooperative models for a large scale water allocation

Thomas Jefferson And James Madison
The Nullification Crisis was the formal suspension by a state of federal law inside the borders.
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were the first voices to introduce this concept to oppose the
alien and sedition acts. The convention in New England saw that it was protection against federal
intrusion on citizen s territories and their rights. The Crisis started in May of 1828 during the
presidency of Andrew Jackson, which caused problems between north and South Carolina and the
federal government.when Andrew Jackson came to office in 1828, the relationship between the North
and the South was tenuous. The Nullification convention declared that the tariffs of 1828 and 1832
were unconstitutional and unenforceable within the state of South ... Show more content on

Calhoun wrote: We (the South) cultivate certain staples for the supply of the general market of the
world; and they (the North) manufacture almost exclusively for the home market. Their object in the
tariff is to keep down foreign competition, in order to obtain a monopoly of the domestic market ....
(Carlson). When Andrew Jackson was elected as President of the United States, the American people
saw him as the everyman because he was the voice of the democratic party.
The Tariff of 1832, despite pleas from Southern representatives, failed to moderate the protective
barriers erected in earlier legislation. South Carolina passed an ordinance of nullification on
November 24, 1832, and threatened to secede if the federal government attempted to collect those
tariff duties. Robert Hayne and John Calhoun had resigned from their original positions in office.
These two men were the leaders of the nullification drive. When the Jackson administration failed to
take any actions to address their concerns, the most radical faction in the state began to advocate that
the state itself declare the tariff null and void within South Carolina. The tariff sought to protect
northern and western agricultural products from competition with foreign imports; however, the

In Cold Blood Book Review
If one is interested in reading a disturbingly detailed and factually based novel that chronicles the
course and motives of complex crime, read Truman Capote s In Cold Blood: A True Account of a
Multiple Murder and Its Consequences. If one scares easily, is squeamish or wants to avoid imagining
a remorseless, brutal killer around every corner, do not.
In his 1965 nonfiction novel, Capote paints a disturbingly vivid picture of the quadruple murder of the
Clutters, a highly regarded and semi wealthy farming family from Holcomb, Kansas. In Cold Blood
examines the incentives and methods used by the killers, as well as the effect these murders had on the
small Kansas town.

Throughout In Cold Blood, Capote illustrates several journalistic characteristics, one of which being
oddity. The murder of a nice family from a small town is certainly unusual, especially when no
motives or suspects fit the case.
Additionally, when the killers were caught, their indifference towards the crime varied drastically
from what one would expect.

I sat there for the longest time. No one spoke, or if they did, I certainly wasn t listening. I mulled over
everything I had thought about him. The way we spoke with each other. How I felt when I was with
him. Everything pointed back to one answer, but it only made me depressed.
I really liked Ciel.
Alice? someone asked. I snapped out of my daze. I d know that voice anywhere.
I turned in my chair and smiled, Ciel! I got up and hugged him tightly. He seemed a bit awkward
about it, but wrapped his arms around me.
When I pulled away, I was full of concern, Are you okay? Did you get hurt? I m so sorry, Ciel! I... I
didn t know how to help you.
It s fine. We re back together now, right? That s what matters, he said. I nodded in agreement. I was a
little surprised he was brushing it off so easily. With anyone else, he would have chewed them out for
it. I was grateful for the reaction, of course, but considering the recent revelation, my thoughts drifted
to reasons of the change.
There is no more room, March Hare told Ciel.
Yes, no more room at all, Hatter joked. He gave me a knowing smile. He knew that I had figured it
out. If I hadn t, I wouldn t have hugged Ciel. I averted my eyes, angry for him being right at all. He
had just made things a zillion times harder because of pointing out that little fact. I really hadn t
needed it.
Come, don t say that. Have a seat, Dormouse talked in his sleep.
I haven t said anything, yet, Ciel pointed out.

  • 2. Harlem Renaissance the Hip Hop Movement Harlem Renaissance and the Hip hop Movement AN OVERVIEW The Harlem Renaissance and the Hip Hop Movement are a culmination of co related cultural art forms that have emerged out of the black experience. White people understood black people more through their expression of art during both movements. Both movements brought about a broad cross racial following and, ironically, in both instances brought about a better understanding of the black experience for white America. The bridge between Be Bop and Hip Hop was made by Quincy Jones with the Back on the Block project; which featured such artists as Dizzie Gillespie, Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Tevin Campbell, Ice Tea, Big Daddy Kane, Al B Sure, Barry White and many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rent parties allowed for the residents of Harlem and other poor ghettos to pay their rent on time and avoid eviction. The rent party also represented the way that African Americans overcame the oppressive surroundings of the ghetto. For example, in Rent Party Jazz , written by William Miller, a jazz musician gives a rent party in order to raise money for a certain family in need. In this way, rent parties not only assisted people in paying the rent, but it also helped the growth and development of jazz as a music genre. Through jazz music and the celebratory nature of the parties, a community was built. [3] [4] The Harlem Renaissance arguably lasted about 15 years and is said to have ended with the onset of the Great Depression. The European American infatuation with the Negro declined in the 1930s, in large part due to the collapse of the stock market. Also, the depression exposed the economic vulnerability of Harlem, given that much of the real estate in Harlem was owned by European Americans; and when the depression hit, African Americans lost their jobs at faster rates than European Americans, caused foreclosures on mortgages, evictions from rental properties, and a depression and alienation from the American Dream that was expressed violently in the first modem race riot, ... On the other hand how do I respond differently to a manager whom I believe is trustworthy? And, last we will discuss which do I prefer and why. When working with a boss whom I do not trust, I tend hold back on giving them my real opinions. I usually keep my commits, concerning day to day activities to myself. I m not sure if they will turn my commits or opinions around and try to use it against me in an evaluation. I also feel when your manager is not worthy of your trust, it creates a somewhat hostile working environment because you are always looking over my shoulder to see what they are observing. Another issue is not being able to go to them for guidance. I just close the communication line and work on my own program, which makes my task even harder to accomplish. And I become less creative due to the fact I don t trust my boss will be open to change. Negative emotions, like decreased work performance, are created when there lack confidence in leaders of an organization. Some negative emotions foster anger, depression, sadness, worry, tense, regret, and jealousy (Zineldin M., 2012). If I m working for someone who I know doesn t have my best interest in mind, it makes me very uncomfortable, causing me to be less productive. I will only do the bare minimum required. • 12. Allusions In Of Mice And Men Have you ever wondered if anyone in the world has the same personality, traits as you? Do you think they have done similar things like you? John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men shows a similarity between characters in Genesis 2 and in the novella. As Emma Lee states in her article, Five reasons that the Bible will help you understand Of Mice and Men , Steinbeck makes allusion to The Garden of Eden as it s presented in the story of Genesis 2 when Eve was deliberately compared to Curley s wife as both suffered terrible consequences. Steinbeck makes these allusions with the sole purpose to show the comparison of the different characters in The Garden of Eden and Of Mice and Men. George told Lennie for the start they met Curley s wife that she s a jail bait and a rat trap. Likewise in The Garden of Eden, God specifically told Eve not to eat from the forbidden tree. However, both Lennie and Eve don t meet the criteria of following the rules and they end up facing the bear consequences. This allusion is shown between George and God and that they gave rules, to follow to right path but it didn t succeed. Moreover, the story of Cain and Abel is yet another allusion to Of Mice and Men, specifically about George and Lennie. Based on, Five reasons that the Bible will help you understand Of Mice and Men by Emma Lee, His(Cain s) question to God once he has killed his brother is Am I my brother s keeper? This quote demonstrates that Cain has killed his brother Abel, which is similar to when George kills his brother Lennie. The reference to my brother s keeper can be true for George as he is the keeper of Lennie. • 15. Dystopian Differences In The Hunger Games And The Hunger... Dystopian films and books have become popular over the past few years. These tend to reflect the way in which society could possibly soon turn if expecting extremes. Dystopian literature and media also tend to have utopian elements as well. While the societies in these works are strict and controlling, they do offer something that our society could possibly benefit from. Divergent has this element. The population is broken up into five factions that represent the different types of people in society and separate those who would fight easily due to their personal morals. The Hunger Games on the other hand (when modern society crumbled) they punished their citizens for fighting the government. While yes there was a chance for riches in the Hunger Games, it took risking your life to get it. In addition, if one did win the Hunger Games they would have an extremely easy life due to riches and a free luxury house. Divergent does not have this part, as its utopian aspect is the fact different ideals are separated from each other. Utopian literature is a reflection that is a perceived direction society may go. In these stories, mirrors are a device used to symbolically state the universe of the film is a reflection not a reality. The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100 years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district ... By the eighteenth century, the European method of self governing independent states was established greatly in the idea of self interest. Since international connections were based on deliberation of power, the eighteenth century concept of a balance of power was grounded on how to counterbalance the power of one state by another one to stop anyone s power from controlling over the others. However, this balance of power did not indicate a wish for peace. Huge armies were created to protect a state s security were sometimes even used for offensive motives as well. 12. • 24. Objectives Of A Balanced Scorecard Introduction The balanced scorecard consists of four critical performance measures that managers can use to align their company s initiatives with organizational strategy. It is one of the most important developments in management accounting, particularly in strategic planning and control because it offers a balanced view of how non financial and financial measures can be casually linked together (Shutibhinyo, 2014). The purpose of this research paper is to provide a brief history of the balanced scorecard, the components of a balanced scorecard, and finally an in depth comparative analysis of how two companies use the balanced scorecard to meet its strategic objectives. Origins of the Balanced Scorecard Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton developed the first balanced scorecard in the early 1990s. Kaplan and Norton identify the balanced scorecard as translating an organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides the framework for a strategic measurement and management system (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The balanced scorecard is a tool in which managers can focus attention on four critical performance measures: financial perspective, customer perspective, process perspective, and learning and growth perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of science from cosmology to biology. The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. • 36. Chapter 58 of Isiah Chapter 58 of Isaiah marks an important change in cultural values due to the humiliation brought about by the Babylonian invasion around the 6th century B.C.E. Gone are the days of good and evil being simply defined as that which coincides with Yahweh s will, and that which doesn t. Now, Isaiah tells the people that simply following the current ways of sacrifice aren t enough, and instead calls for social justice (Chilton, 200), and, in a sense, attempts to invite a return to pre monarchical social structuring. This new morality value system aims to upset the existing post monarchical Israelite social structure, whilst also invigorate a new, post exilic, collective Israelite national identity. Thus, let us begin by examining the political, social, and literary motivations behind this Book. We must first realize that the Book of Isaiah can be divided into three blocks (1 39, 40 55 and 56 66), and each are starkly different in tone, theme, and delivery (Chilton, 189). Chapter 58 belongs to the third block, and thus, does not dabble in the same interplay between doubt and reassurance, and confident, hymnic affirmation in response to the uncertainty of people (Chilton, 198). We can see this new tone clearly in the 4 opening lines. Shout out, do not hold back! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins (Isaiah, 58). I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in prison for years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to. I also think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do for work. In doing so, this will solve some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result in less cruel punishment of prisoners. Company Overview History In 1965, Yale University undergraduate Fredrick W. Smith wrote a term paper that laid out the logistical challenges facing pioneering firms in the information technology industry. Smith explained in his term paper how companies using airfreight shippers relied on passenger route systems, but those didn t make since. He proposed a system specifically designed to accommodate time sensitive shipments. His teacher didn t find anything special about his term paper, so he received just an average grade. In August 1971, Smith bought controlling interest in Arkansas Aviation Sales located in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was then when he set out to find a better way; which was when Federal Express was born. Smith named the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson The Threat of Anne Hutchinson In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing place to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city upon a hill, a mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of. A key ingredient to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a whole, which was created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided leadership for all facets of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain hierarchy was very apparent in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to have gotten their way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the colony because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire trial Anne was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down and admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but she never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop, along with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her banishment. Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy Governor that Anne went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the covenant of works to their very faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied nothing, while admitting nothing. Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested to the probability of her saying this of the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than admitted to being of the same mindset of the ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment. It is my understanding that Anne s type of mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over between Puritans discussing religious topics such as Biblical translations and weekly sermons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Andrew Jackson was elected as President of the United States, the American people saw him as the everyman because he was the voice of the democratic party. The Tariff of 1832, despite pleas from Southern representatives, failed to moderate the protective barriers erected in earlier legislation. South Carolina passed an ordinance of nullification on November 24, 1832, and threatened to secede if the federal government attempted to collect those tariff duties. Robert Hayne and John Calhoun had resigned from their original positions in office. These two men were the leaders of the nullification drive. The way we spoke with each other. How I felt when I was with him. Everything pointed back to one answer, but it only made me depressed. I really liked Ciel. Alice? someone asked. I snapped out of my daze. I d know that voice anywhere. I turned in my chair and smiled, Ciel! I got up and hugged him tightly. He seemed a bit awkward about it, but wrapped his arms around me. When I pulled away, I was full of concern, Are you okay? Did you get hurt? I m so sorry, Ciel! I... I didn t know how to help you. It s fine. We re back together now, right?
