TITLE:- Effectiveness of Brain-gym exercise on stress and
quality of sleep among young adults
INTRODUCTION:-
- Sleep deprivation can affect a person mentally and physically. Insomnia can lead
to a decrease in quality of life.1
-Sleep and stress are closely related to each other with evidence
supporting of bidirectional association between sleep and stress.2
-Additionally, increased stress levels in adults.3 and stressful life events in adolescent
4 have been associated with IA(Internet Addiction).
-Brain gym exercise invented by Dennison and Dennison in 1970. it contains a series
of movements that stimulate the brain and enable neurological reprogramming.5
-Brain Gym Exercise contains 26 moves that help to improve social, mental,
emotional, and physical efficiency. According to Brain gym literature, the brain
function is conceptualized as relatively simplistic and defined along dimensions:
laterality, attention, and centering.6
NEED OF THE STUDY:-
-Nowadays younger adults are at high risk to get into stress and sleep
deprivation due to internet addiction and stressful life events.
-this study is to determine the effect of brain gym exercise in younger
adults with stress and sleep deprivation.
AIM OF STUDY:-
- The purpose of this study is to find the effectiveness of brain gym
exercises for stress and the quality of sleep among younger adults.
OBJECTIVE OF STUDY:-
-To evaluate the effect of brain gym exercise on stress and quality of sleep
among younger adults.
HYPOTHESIS:-
1. Null hypothesis:-
H01:- There is no significant effect of brain gym exercise on stress among adult
H02:- There is no significant effect of brain gym exercise on the quality of sleep
2. Alternate hypothesis:-
H11:- There is a significant effect of brain gym exercise on stress among adult
H12:- There is a significant effect of brain gym exercise on the quality of sleep
METHODOLOGY:-
-Study design:- Experimental study
- Source of data:- from Amreli district
- Study Duration:- 3 months
- Sample size:- 60
SELECTION CRITERIA:-
1.INCLUSION CRITERIA:-
Individuals willing to participate
Age:- 18-25
Sex:- both males and females
Individuals with insomnia and stress
2. EXCLUSION CRITERIA:-
Individuals with personality problems
Individuals unable to complete questionnaires due to severe mental or physical
conditions.
PROCEDURE:-
1.Participants will be informed about the research and a consent form will be taken
2.Individuals will be screened for inclusion and exclusion criteria. An individual meeting the
inclusion criteria and willing to participate in the study will be included in the study.
3.'n' number of individuals will be screened by the ISI scale
4.Total individuals will be taken in study [n=]
5.Participants will be given self-assisted PSQI and ASQ scale
6.Individual participants will be given brain gym exercise intervention for a month
7.Then individuals will be given PSQI and ASQ scales for Post interventional assessment
Brain gym exercise protocol:-
1 Spot marching:- for 1 minute
2 Hookups:- 2 minutes (five sets of eight repetitions)
3 Positive points:- 1 minute (10 repetitions)
4 The active arms:- 5 minutes
5 Earth buttons:- 2 minutes (10 repetitions)
6 The energy yawn:- 1 minute (10 repetitions)
7 Lazy eights:- 1 minute (10 repetitions)
8 Gravity glider:- 5 minutes (10 repetitions)
9 Foot flex:- Point and flex the foot five times for 2 minutes
10 The energizer:- 5 minutes(5 repetitions)
-For 5 days a week for 1 month 7
OUTCOME MEASURES:-
Insomnia Severity Index 8:-
- The ISI is a 7-item self-report questionnaire assessing the nature, severity, and impact of
insomnia
-The total score is interpreted as follows: absence of insomnia (0–7); sub-threshold insomnia
(8–14); moderate insomnia (15–21); and severe insomnia (22–28)
Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale 9:-
-The PSQI is a 19-item questionnaire evaluating sleep quality and disturbances over the past
month
A total score, ranging from 0 to 21, A score > 5 suggests poor sleep quality
The Adolescent Stress Questionnaire 10/11
-The ASQ-14 is a self-report questionnaire designed as a brief screening tool for assessing minor stressors in
adolescents.
-1 = not at all stressful, 2= a little stressful, 3 = moderately stressful, 4 = quite stressful, and 5 = very stressful
