I have looked at these three camera shots in particular as they are at the beginning of the song, and they
caught my attention as they don't focus on anything in particular but instead focus on setting out the
narrative for the audience. The scene opens with these short snippets of an empty house as the song
begins to build. This sequence takes place before any lyrics are sung, and I really like the idea of
following the emptiness of this set seeing as it fits well with the lyrics of the song. I like the concept of the
video starting of with something other than the characters that are going to take place later on in the
video. Each shot is so in depth and in focus. For example, the first one we are watching a tap drip and to
me this shot is so simple and easy that it becomes so effective to watch on screen, as are the other two
clips.
When looking at the first two shots, they draw my attention as the focus of the camera is put purely onto
the package that the girl has received, showing the audience straight away that the narrative will focus its
attention on this object. I like the idea of these closeup shots on things other than the people in the scene
as a way to keep the video going and for something different to always be on the screen. As for the last
shot, I like the idea of the focus not being purely on them. I like the way the lighting sits so that we are still
able to see them as a couple but rather than seeing them completely, instead we see more of their
silhouettes and the scenery behind them. The background in the last shot is what I like the most as it is
something I would like to incorporate into my video, rather than having a plain background.
When looking at the first two shots I like these two different ways of incorporating them both in a two shot,
either through them facing each other or them facing the camera. I feel that we see the relationship in the
narrative blossom as they turn towards each other and I like the personal touch to these shots. I feel as I
want to included more than one person in my video, that it is important that I look at shots including more
than one person and these shots in particular I like. As for the last shot, I like the idea of being able to see
the character that close as it brings more understanding to a character through their facial expression. For
example, in this shot we get to pay more attention to his eyes as he is watching the girl. Again helping the
audience get more of an understanding for the characters in the narrative.
When looking at this video the shots are all very personal to the artist performing, all of the shots are very
close and the focus is always on her. I like with the first two shots how although the lense is sat behind
something and something is covering half of the image the focus is still on her. I like the idea of there
being more going on in the image other than just the person. With the second one in particular I like that
not only is there objects out of focus but we also have the light shining through which also takes up some
of the image. The character is always in line with the rule of thirds which again I like as it shows her
importance to the clip. As for the last camera shot, I like how close we are to her face again like the shot
from disclosure we get to see the emotions on her face to help set out the narrative for the video.
This video is one of my favourite videos at the moment as we have a split screen of two different
narratives going on. The idea of watching two different stories unfold yet both stories are linked together is
a nice concept to hold and I like these ideas for my video. I like how both stories and each shot that is
shown show lots of similarities yet are both so different which I like. Another thing I like about these shots
is the lighting in them as they are very relaxed on neutral which overall gives the video a more relaxing
tone about it.
The first shot is a good shot to open the video
with. The shallow focus is effective as we first get
to see the scene in an establishing shot, but with
the focus being blurry and being unable to see
anything in clear vision allows the audience to
adapt well to the narrative. We are able to see
how the narrative links together well with the
lyrics. I like the idea of having the deep and
shallow focus as a way to change up what it is we
are seeing on the screen.
I like how with this music video this is the shot
that we see the entire time. The fishbowl shot is
an effective one to include as it changes the
whole idea behind the narrative. It makes each
shot more personal to the individual character as
the focus is all on her. Although the scene
changes very swiftly with lots going on, our
attention is still on her and it made across as if we
are in her head as we see everything in her
perspective, which is a very individual way in
doing a video.
