The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Georgia’s Feedback
One piece of feedback I received from Georgia was to re-film the clip of Harry
and Jacob in the line ‘with a friend who’s like a brother’ as it did not accurately
fit the screen. I re-filmed this and was able to get it on the stage setting to show
fun within their performance. Also as it was a wider shot I was able to get more
movement from them which emphasised the enjoyment and laughter between
them.
Also for my drummer, Dylan, I received a lot about his energy while playing and
so in my discussion with Georgia we decided that I could make his clips more
interesting by moving the camera more when filming him. So I filmed panning
around him and also panning from him onto the rest of the band to show them all
being together.
Georgia also suggested that I re-film the shots that change focus. However, I
liked this blurry effect as I felt it worked well for a teenage/young adult style
band and audience as it represents the uncertainty.
Lastly, Georgia stated that she felt I had to bring in more clear fun elements to
really over emphasise this aspect of the video. This leads us on to Toms
feedback.
3. Tom’s Feedback
Tom mentioned in his feedback that as it was a lively song I needed a more lively setting. So we
discussed this further and decided places In town such as Park Street would work well. By
putting the band in this city setting I was able to get more enthusiasm and facial expressions out
of them. For example when I had them run down the steps or joke around In the costume shop.
By having more going on around them they came out of their shells more so this worked really
well.
Tom also said that the friendship between the came across well. This was really important for
me and I valued this being noticed as I worked hard to get this point across in a variety of ways
such as with the character positioning, the images used and the camera shots.
I felt Tom’s feedback really helped improve my video in terms of making it appear more upbeat
and active. I also felt that he pointed out and almost reaffirmed for me that I had shown the
genre clearly through conventions such as the clothing and colour scheme.
4. Sol’s Feedback
One of Sol’s main feedback ideas was to increase some of the lighting however I initially wanted to
have a variation within the lighting just to emphasis the different mood throughout the song. For
example the shot of Jacob singing ‘Twice you pulled me down but it’s the last time’ is a much lighter
grey scale than the line ‘To every argument I let slide’. The lighting from the concert is very bright
and in colour as this is the most upbeat section of the song and the main part where it becomes a
lighter mood.
Sol also suggested that I either make the drone footage longer or not use it, however as I felt the drone footage was a
good use of technical equipment I wanted to keep it so I extended the footage and also managed to change It to a
different file in order for it to come out clearer with less pixilation's.
Sol and the other two all gave the feedback that it needed for enthusiasm from the drummer. I found this tricky to get him
to do as he felt he had to concentrate on the beats of the song so as I mentioned previously, I tried to use the camera
movements in such a way that his clips are shown in a more interesting manner. I also was able to get more enthusiasm
from him in the city setting as it generally had more going on so they were able to bounce off of this.
5. Over all significance of the Feedback
Each piece of feedback I felt was very useful. I was able to combine then together such as the city
setting from Tom helping to emphasis the fun elements of the video and the lighting of individual
clips.
I chose each person for specific elements of feedback. I chose Georgia to analyse the filming and
messages received from certain clips. I thought she would be good for this from her photography
experiences such as shooting artist such as Noel Gallager at the NME awards and how to use the
shots for different effects.
I chose Tom because of his knowledge of the genre. Tom has seen many live shows so has a good
idea of what a band should look like while performing. He is also a big fan of the genre and The
Catfish and The Bottlemen in particular so he is aware of how their videos would come across. He
also understands what kinds of images would work well with the lyrics of a song.
Finally I chose Sol to give feedback because of his skill, experience and understanding within the
general media. Sol attends a media college and has made music video’s himself for different genre’s
so he is aware of how they should appear and the lighting and shots that could be used.
I valued each and every piece of their feedback and either gave reasoning for why I had displayed
something the way I had or took their ideas on board and further developed the video.
