Comparison of Single and Cascade Solid-Oxide Fuel Cell Designs:
When designing Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) systems for electricity production, we wanted to determine
whether a single stage SOFC system or a cascade system would be the best choice.
Efficiencies and economic potential were compared to determine which system would offer a more optimal
solution while still producing the same amount of power.
Responsibilities and Achievements:
Stimulated both the cascade and single stage systems in HYSYS.
Estimated total fuel inputs, the total capital costs and economic potential of each system using the design
parameters found in HYSYS for each piece equipment/ Responsible for several theoretical calculations for both
single stage and cascade systems.
Based on several calculations, the single stage system was more efficient and had a larger return on investment
than the cascade system.
Developed a strong understanding of HYSYS.
