This document outlines a lesson plan for a first grade class on the five senses. It follows the ASSURE method of lesson planning. The class has 21 students of varying races and genders, with basic knowledge of letters, numbers, colors and shapes. The lesson will use a computer, projector, Facebook page, Pinterest board and Tumblr blog to engage students in learning about the five senses through group activities matching sensory items to senses and reviewing concepts. Students will be evaluated based on participation, behavior, and correctly matching senses to items. The goal is for students to learn the five senses and their importance with 100% accuracy over four class periods.

periods. In addition, the students will learn how each
sense is used in everyday life and why it is important.
Students will use varied types of technology such as
computers, projectors, social medias, and a Web 2.0
program.

students’ chairs allow an easy view of the projection.

0 The teacher will begin Wednesday’s class by
introducing the three tools that will be used in
exploring the five senses.
0 The teacher will begin by showing the students the
class Facebook page.
0 This page will keep track of all the posts that are
linked to this page such as Blogger (which is updated
with the daily events) and the pins that will be chosen
on Pinterest
0 Parents can view this page to ask questions and view
what is being accomplished in class.

0 The teacher will then discuss the Pinterest Board the
class will use to get the assignment from.
0 Once on Pinterest, the students will work in groups
sorting bells, cotton balls, strawberries/grapes, a glass
prism, and a minty herb on a piece of paper that has
five circles with each sense written in its own circle.
0 The teacher will re-pin this assignment which will
post it on Facebook for parents to view.

0 The teacher will end that assignment and move onto
the next assignment and review. Tumblr is a Web 2.0
program, the teacher will use it to review and sum up
Wednesday’s class.
0 Tumblr is a form of a blog that the teacher will use to
find images that are all based on the same topic (the
five senses).

16. Evaluate and Revise
0 The students will be evaluated in multiple ways on the
third day of the unit. They will be evaluated based on
their participation, their interest, and their behavior
and manners.
0 The students will also be evaluated based on their
success in matching the correct item with the correct
sense in the Pinterest assignment
0 Students should know the five senses by now
