Unit 57 Blog Essay for Image I Love
By Chelsie Brandrick
Recreation photography is a technique popular on social media where a photo is
deliberately replicated by re-enacting or recreating a scene and taking a similar photo.
Many people recreate old childhood photographs or famous photos and post them on
social media, which has been known to give posters a lot of attention.
I chose Catarina Pires’ photograph of Windermere Lake as I thought it captured the
atmosphere of the Lake District perfectly whilst transporting the viewer to the scene.
As I know the Lake District well and was planning a trip to stay there for a weekend it
made sense for me to try and replicate this photo for this project.
I walked around Windermere for 30 minutes before reaching the pier where the photo
was taken. Once I got there I lined up my camera to recreate Catarina’s photo and
took many images so I was sure I got the shot I needed. As I shot the photo on a
sunny day outdoors, no lighting was needed. During the edit, I enhanced the natural
colours captured in the photo by increasing the saturation and brightness. I think that
my photo is better than the original as the weather conditions were better than
Catarina’s and I have people at the end of the pier which makes the photo more
interesting.
