Researching audiences
This presentation is going to be about the
different research methods that film industry
uses, for example focus group questionnaire or
texts screening.
Focus groups
• A focus group is a form of qualitative research
method which a group of people are asked
about their perceptions, opinions about a
product, or film.
• Movie critics often use this method they go
cinema watch the movie and discuss on the
news sometimes about the movie, but often
they would have positive and negative news.
Questionnaires
• Questionnaire method I usually like because its very
simple and most of the times your anonyms and
that’s why many people like to use it. Its more
number, figures and charts its all about collecting
quick data.
• You would sometimes see people standing outside
the cinema doing questionnaires about the movie
when the audience come out.
• I have used this method before and its very easy and
quick way to collect information.
Test screening
• A test screening is a preview screening of a movie or
television show before its general release in order to
gauge audience reaction. Preview audience are
selected from cross-section of the population, and are
usually asked to complete a questionnaire or provide
feedback in some form.
• They would usually use this method when movie
television show is due to release, after that they would
ask them to do questionnaire to find out what the
audience thought of the movie and if there is anything
the could improve in the movie or TV show.
