2. Problem
With a price of $94 per exam, it’s crucial for students to get the most out of their Advanced Placement World
Language and Culture exams. However, during the school year, trying to find time to study for the end-of-
year AP test can be difficult, especially with students’ busy schedules. This often results in last-minute
‘cramming’. Besides being less effective than a more structured approach, this study habit can lead to
extreme stress and sleep deprivation. Additionally, many students find it hard to find study books or
practice questions specific to AP Language and Culture tests.
3. Solution
The AP Ready app is a year-long program that will prepare students for their AP World Language and
Culture exams in French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Latin, and/or Italian. Brief 15-20 minute daily
sessions help students practice their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, as well as grammar and
sentence structure. The app includes multiple choice and free response sample questions similar to those in
the College Board archive. It provides accurate material without violating copyright laws. The app also
provides rubrics that students can use to accurately chart their progress.
AP Ready is divided into 5 sections that are crucial to success on the AP exam: Reading, Grammar, Writing,
Speaking, and Listening. The Reading, Grammar, and Listening sections all include multiple choice questions
at the end of each session; Writing and Speaking sections are simulations of the free response questions
found on the actual AP test.
4. Market
The target consumers for this product are high school students taking Advanced Placement tests. AP Ready
assumes that consumers already have a basic understanding of their target language, which sets the app
apart from other language-learning apps such as Duolingo and LingoDeer whose main focus is to teach
beginners. It can instead focus on the more complex aspects of the language.
Most competitors in the test prep field produce study books; AP Ready stands out from these businesses
because of its accessibility and relatively low cost. It also provides the student with a carefully planned
schedule and detailed goals. Unlike other test prep programs, AP Ready is specific to World Language and
Culture exams.
An estimated 1 million students will have taken a World Language and Culture exam by 2023; all of these
students would benefit from AP Ready’s study program.
