PLANTS
- They can
- They live .
- Most plants have
Roots
Stem
*(Ina tree itis
called trunk)
Leaf(S)
Leaves (P)
They help to keep it in place.
They take in

Inside the stem,
CLASSIFYINGA PLANT
“We classify plants depending on how they look and feel and how they perform their vital functions”
Stems
We also classify plants
according to the look
and feel of their stems
Woodyplants
Theyhave a hard stem.
There are two groups:
- Trees
- Shrubs(They have
multiple very thin
stems that branch
from the ground)
Herbaceous
plants
Theyhave a thin
and flexible stem.
They are: herbsor
daisies.
Flowers
They are thereproductive
organ of mostplants
Flowering plants
They have flowers,
fruitsorseeds.
For example:
- Cherrytree
- Apple tree
Non-flowering plants
They don´thave
seeds.
Theyare:Mossor
fern.
NUTRITIONINPLANTS Plants make their own food using water, minerals, airand sunlight.
Theprocess of PHOTOSYNTHESIS:
1.Roots absorb waterand mineralsfrom
the ground. This mixture iscalled RAWSAP
2.Rawsap travels to
theleaves through
VESSELS
sunlight
3.Leaves of a plants breathe in a gas from air called CARBON
DIOXIDE.Thisgas mixed with raw sap and sunlight and it transforms
into a type of sugar called ELABORATED SAP. They release OXYGEN.
This is the process of photosynthesis in a plant.
THEPARTSOF A FLOWER The most important parts of a flower are the COROLLA,CALYX, STAMENSand PISTIL.
1. TheCOROLLAisthe collection of brightly colouredleaves
around the centre of the flower.
Each one of these leaves isknown as a PETAL.
2.TheCALYX isthe collection of green
leaves outside thecorolla.
The leaves are called SEPALS.
3.ThePISTIListhe female
reproductive organ where
seeds are made.
Itismade up ofthe
STIGMA,STYLEand OVARY.
Inside the ovary thereare
OVULES.
4.STAMENSare the male reproductive organs ofa
flower.
Each stamens ismade up of a ANTHER,which
contains POLLEN,and a FILAMENT.

HOWDO FLOWERINGPLANTSREPRODUCE?
Plantsreproduce throughSEEDS.Thefloweristhereproductive organ ofmostplants.Inorder for a flower to reproduce, the pollen of one
plant has to reach the pistil to another plant.
1.Pollen istransferred from one plant to another by
the wind or by some animals, like bees.
Thisprocess iscalled POLLINATION.
2. When pollen reaches the pistil, it moves down to the ovary. A grain of
pollen attaches to an ovule and creates a seed.
Thisiscalled FERTILISATION.
3. After fertilisation, the calyx and corolla wither and fall off. Meanwhile,
a fruit begins to grow in the ovary.
Itsmain function isto protect the seed as they develop.
4. When the fruit isripe, it falls to the ground. The seeds go into
the soil and a new plant begins to grow.
This part of the process iscalled GERMINATION.

This mixture iscalled RAWSAP 2.Rawsap travels to theleaves through VESSELS sunlight 3.Leaves of a plants breathe in a gas from air called CARBON DIOXIDE.Thisgas mixed with raw sap and sunlight and it transforms into a type of sugar called ELABORATED SAP. They release OXYGEN. This is the process of photosynthesis in a plant.
  • 5. THEPARTSOF A FLOWER The most important parts of a flower are the COROLLA,CALYX, STAMENSand PISTIL. 1. TheCOROLLAisthe collection of brightly colouredleaves around the centre of the flower. Each one of these leaves isknown as a PETAL. 2.TheCALYX isthe collection of green leaves outside thecorolla. The leaves are called SEPALS. 3.ThePISTIListhe female reproductive organ where seeds are made. Itismade up ofthe STIGMA,STYLEand OVARY. Inside the ovary thereare OVULES. 4.STAMENSare the male reproductive organs ofa flower. Each stamens ismade up of a ANTHER,which contains POLLEN,and a FILAMENT. • 6. HOWDO FLOWERINGPLANTSREPRODUCE? Plantsreproduce throughSEEDS.Thefloweristhereproductive organ ofmostplants.Inorder for a flower to reproduce, the pollen of one plant has to reach the pistil to another plant. 1.Pollen istransferred from one plant to another by the wind or by some animals, like bees. Thisprocess iscalled POLLINATION. 2. When pollen reaches the pistil, it moves down to the ovary. A grain of pollen attaches to an ovule and creates a seed. Thisiscalled FERTILISATION. 3. After fertilisation, the calyx and corolla wither and fall off. Meanwhile, a fruit begins to grow in the ovary. Itsmain function isto protect the seed as they develop. 4. When the fruit isripe, it falls to the ground. The seeds go into the soil and a new plant begins to grow. This part of the process iscalled GERMINATION.
