The main difference between flowering and nonflowering plants is their method of reproduction. Flowering plants rely on pollination to produce seeds inside fruits, while nonflowering plants reproduce through spores or naked seeds not enclosed in fruits. There are three major types of nonflowering plants: gymnosperms like conifers which produce naked seeds but no flowers or fruits; mosses which reproduce via spores rather than seeds; and ferns which also reproduce using spores instead of seeds.
