Target Audience of Magazine Target Audience: Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs Will mainly consist of explorers as indie rock is quite popular therefore they could then consider themselves as being in with the crowd after reading this magazine. They would also like the different articles that would also like the different articles that would be featured within the magazine as there would be more of choice during the mouth of what they could read. Kats’ Uses and Gratifications Theory Inform and educate- The reader would be learning something from reading the content within my two magazines they will be reading about one of their favorite artists or artists to come Diversion- The reader would be able to chill and relax themselves within the content of the article. Font Style The reason I have chosen riff as one of my magazine titles is as it will relate to music. The word riff is defined as a short repeated phrase in popular music. This will tend to be the beat of the song that gets caught in your head. This will make the viewer want to buy my magazine because it will remind them of a song that they liked that got stuck in their head. I have chosen noise gate as my other title is because it will make the au audience wonder what and where the name noise gate. Final font choice I have chosen these as my final headers because I think that my target audience will be mostly attracted to these. Also the both have the right style, as they suite the style of music that I have chosen to base the magazine. Further more these names have been inspired by different music terminology this is so viewers will know straight away what the magazine is going to be about.
What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale- 1980) DPS • Steve Neale said: For media text to be successful they most have elements of repetition and difference. Because my DPS is inspired Karrang I would like to take some key features from their DPS and put them into a my own DPS. This will be a good idea because Karrang is already a successful magazine so if I take some of their ideas it will be good for my magazine. • I like the way that the title has been placed and so that everyone can see what the article is going to be about also it is in bright so people can see it so it will be more likely to draw in readers. I think that the drop capital is a good idea as it shows creativity as it is something better than just a plane letter that is the same size as all the others.

My magazine of inspiration (Karrang) has good ideas that they use in the magazine and I would like use these in m magazine to attract a bigger audience. These idea will be the logo and the positioning of there title as they keep it in the same place for every issue and the style the the title has been written in is the same. In some weeks they will change the colour of the logo to add a layer of diversity to the magazine. I do not intend on doing this to my magazine as I will make sure that my audience will know that the magazine that they are buying will be the real thing that they will know by first look. Further more they move the barcode and I will keep it in the same place this will be in the bottom right hand corner this is because I do not want the barcode to cover up any of the pictures or any of the text on the page. One more thing that I will do that my magazine of inspiration does not do, is I will put all my sub-lines down the left hand side so the reader will not have to look around for what they will be reading about. Matt: I have decided to keep this album the same style as my music before this is because my fans like the style that I have done before. Matt : No not yet as I have only just stared as a full time successful artist so for now I will show people what my main style then I might move on to something different later on. Matt : Well once the album is out and I hope it is doing well my manager is looking into me doing my first tour. Me: Will this be world wide, Europe or just the UK Matt: I guess you will have to wait and see because I don’t even know what I am doing yet it is all speculation and depending on weather this album does well. Me: I see, I will hope this it does well then then perhaps you could give me four free tickets Matt: Ah ha I would love to but I don’t think my production team will be so kind. Me: That’s a shame. But I cant wait to see you go as an artist. Any ways how did you get into music. Matt: Well I have always loved music I played lots of different instruments as a child but I loved to lead with my guitar. Me: You say lead? Matt: I played in a band with my friends when I was younger I loved it. It is what really got me into music as I got that rush of standing on a stage performing. Me: What happened to this band why did you not all pursue music together. Matt: We tried are best to keep it going but we were all on different path as some of us went to uni and we were all different ages trust me we tried. Me : Well I am sad it hear it but happy that it has put you in this seat in front of me to day. Matt: Well so am I. I wouldn't’t have changed a thing. Graphic Layout • The reason that I have made a graphic layout of my magazines is to make sure that they will look presentable to viewers, because if they are not people will not want to buy the issue. Location Recce Location Time Date Why The photo-shoot was taken in my own home in my kitchen. This seemed like a place to do it as I had a lot of space to do lots of different shot types. I did it in the kitchen around the time between 4pm and 5pm this way the light shines into the kitchen giving a natural light. Permission Needed Contact needed to be made I will need to make sure that the person that I am taking my photos of will be ok with other people seeing these pictures of him. So I will get him to sign a contract saying that he is ok with it. Potential Hazards Location Why When taking my photos I will needed to be aware of the surroundings that I a doing it in so I can prevent and plan for anything that might go wrong. For example my artist will be playing am instrument in some of the photos that I am going to be taking of him. So I will need to make sure that these will not cause him harm if something goes wrong. The way that I will prevent him from coming to harm will be by making sure that when I am taking photos of him with his guitar I will make sure that he is sitting down or he has a guitar strap on this way he cant drop it on his feet and hurt him self. Also I will be using a camera so wen I am using it I will be wearing a strap that is attacked to the camera this way I cant drop it and hurt myself or anyone around. Another thing that could go wrong might be that items in my kitchen could get in the way and or could cause someone harm so I will make sure before that I have cleared a space this way I will not need to go any where near the main kitchen where things could go wrong. Advertising Revenue In my magazine I will have some advisements this will be a good way of making money and for other music based companies to expand. In my magazine there is one DPS for adverts and one full page so I will make 14,515 this is good because it means that this money can go to the workers and it can completely fund the printing cost.
Profit and loss brake down • I have to make sure that I am making money even though I am spending a lot. I will be making 14,515 on advisements however I will lose money on equipment, staff and print cost which will come to 537,301.55 so over all I will need to sell 537,570 copy's of my magazine before I star making a profit.
Marketing the magazine • For the marketing of the my magazines I think that the best why to advertise will be going on to a radio or starting up a radio as this will draw in a lot more customers as they will know what type of music we will do and how the magazine is run. • It will also bring in more customers because people will just be going through stations finding good music and the music being played will draw in people that like the style of music this way the audience will be more loyal to the magazine and will be frequent customers buying. • This will also have a good affect on the magazine as on the radio will advertise the magazine articles and how to get subscriptions.
Risk assessment I had to make sure to do a risk assessment as I needed to make sure that nothing went wrong and hat I had all the backups that I needed and to make sure that if anything else went wrong I would be ready for it. For example if the camera was to run out of charge I would either have a back up camera or battery or I had my phone charged with the camera ready. Also I had to make sure that know one would walk in as I was doing my presentation as it would put me off and slow down the flow and I will be more likely to lose my train of thought.
Safe working practice • Safe working practices is a method that allows stuff that are working under expected conditions to follow by these rules. These rules that will be put in place in order to keep the workers safe in the environment that they are in. If they do nor follow by these rules that might come to harm then there might be a falling out between the company. But if they have done something that they had said they wouldn’t do after signing a safe working practice it is simply their fault. The other important reason for there being a safe working practice is so that every working will be treated in the same way where no one will not be treated to the proper standard, but if someone was to get hurt it will not be because of any rule that was not included in the safe working practice document but because the worker was not following by the practice. • So for my magazine I will make sure that any new workers will read and safe working practice document this way they will know what it covers. I will also make sure that they will go though a training course this is so they will know how to use all of the equipment and programs that they will have to use and in order to keep them safe.
Editors Code and practice Children - Children must not be approached or photographed at school without permission of the authorities of the school. If under 16, children must not be interviewed/photographed on issues involving their own or another child’s welfare unless their parent/guardian agrees. Children in sex cases – under no circumstances should the press identify children under 16 who are victims or witnesses in cases involving sex offences. In any press report involving a sexual offence against a child, the child must not be identified, the adult is able to be identified. The word "incest" cannot be used where a child victim might be identified. Hospitals – a journalist must identify themselves while also getting permission from an executive before entering any non-public areas of hospitals (or similar institutions to pursue enquiries). Reporting crime - Unless genuinely relevant to the story, relatives/friends of people being convicted/accused of crime should not be identified without their consent. Unless a child's name is published, the editor should avoid identifying anyone under the age of 16 unless there is consent from the parent/guardian. Clandestine devices and subterfuge – the press must not publish or obtain information from secret cameras, listening devices or intercepting phone calls, emails texts etc. without consent. Victims of sexual assault – there must be no information or material published that could lead to the identification of a victim. Discrimination – details of someone's race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must not be mentioned unless genuinely relevant to the story. The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to someone’s, race, colour, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability. Financial journalism - Journalists must not use for their own profit financial information they receive in advance of its general publication, and they should not pass information onto others. They must not write about shares or securities in whose performance they know that they or their close families have a significant financial interest without disclosing the interest to the editor or financial editor. They must not buy or sell any shares or securities which they have written recently or intend to write later on. Confidential sources - Journalists have a moral obligation to protect confidential sources of information. Witness payments in criminal trials – there should be no payment/offer to a witness or anyone considered to be a witness. If there is a payment/offer made to someone who later then gives evidence, it must be disclosed to the prosecution and defence. The witness must also be advised of this. Payment to criminals – there should be no payment/offers for stories, pictures or information, which look to exploit a crime or to glorify crime generally. Payment must not be made directly to the criminal, via agents to convicted/confessed criminals or to the criminals associates, this includes family, friends and colleagues. The public interest – The public interest includes, but is not confined to: Detecting or exposing crime, or the threat of crime, or serious impropriety. • Protecting public health or safety. • Protecting the public from being misled by an action or statement of an individual or organisation. • Disclosing a person or organisation’s failure or likely failure to comply with any obligation to which they are subject. • Disclosing a miscarriage of justice. • Raising or contributing to a matter of public debate, including serious cases of impropriety, unethical conduct or incompetence concerning the public. • Disclosing concealment, or likely concealment, of any of the above.
Royalties • Royalties is when a magazine has included content which is copyrighted and if someone else includes this information then they have pay the original magazine. • The NLA are a newspaper licensing company which sell copying licenses to newspapers and now magazine content. Therefore, NLA ensures that each publisher get their royalties. Q magazine and other magazine owned by Bauer Media are subscribe to the NLA. This means that any magazine that is owned by Bauer Media can use information that they has been put in magazine that Bauer also owns, as long as the magazine and Bauer confirm that it is allowed. • However if a magazine wants information from another magazine that is not owned by the same company but is signed up with NLA they can take the information but they will have to contact the magazine before hand. • For my magazine I will make sure to sign it up with NLA so this way I can be protected against other company's trying to take my content.

As well as IP on printed work, you can get a digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from any magazine online and in any digital format. It is important to have this because it means people will have to pay you to use your information and ideas. The best way to protect your IP is to acquire a patent. However, this can take several years to get and costs over £5000. Magazines such as Q will not have water marks because it will make the magazine look bad so instead they will write the copy wright information on the inside of the front cover. An example of this is KFC advert received 755 complaints in 2017 making it the most complained about advert that year. To conclude I will try to make sure in my magazine that I will offend the least amount of people and if there are any complaints I will make that I am covered against them. This way my magazine can not have a bad reputation and people will like the magazine because of this.

However, this can take several years to get and costs is over £5000. In my magazine I will make sure to protect it against anyone that might try to copy my pictures or content. I will use most of the methods however I will not use methods that affect the look of my magazine such as watermarking as it will make that magazine look cheap and it will affect the over all presentation of the magazine.
Future plans I the future would like for my magazine to reach top 10 music magazines sold. Also I would like to reach over 100 thousand subscribers on my YouTube page I think these are good targets to try and reach in my first year because it will show other magazines that we will be pushing for top spot in a few year and show customers that this magazine will be staying around for a long time.

    Font Style The reasonI have chosen riff as one of my magazine titles is as it will relate to music. The word riff is defined as a short repeated phrase in popular music. This will tend to be the beat of the song that gets caught in your head. I have chosen noise gate as my other title is because it will make the au audience wonder what and where the name noise gate. Also the both have the right style, as they suite the style of music that I have chosen to base the magazine. Further more these names have been inspired by different music terminology this is so viewers will know straight away what the magazine is going to be about.

Because my DPS is inspired Karrang I would like to take some key features from their DPS and put them into a my own DPS. This will be a good idea because Karrang is already a successful magazine so if I take some of their ideas it will be good for my magazine. • I like the way that the title has been placed and so that everyone can see what the article is going to be about also it is in bright so people can see it so it will be more likely to draw in readers. I think that the drop capital is a good idea as it shows creativity as it is something better than just a plane letter that is the same size as all the others.

My magazine of inspiration (Karrang) has good ideas that they use in the magazine and I would like use these in m magazine to attract a bigger audience. These idea will be the logo and the positioning of there title as they keep it in the same place for every issue and the style the the title has been written in is the same. In some weeks they will change the colour of the logo to add a layer of diversity to the magazine. I do not intend on doing this to my magazine as I will make sure that my audience will know that the magazine that they are buying will be the real thing that they will know by first look. Further more they move the barcode and I will keep it in the same place this will be in the bottom right hand corner this is because I do not want the barcode to cover up any of the pictures or any of the text on the page. One more thing that I will do that my magazine of inspiration does not do, is I will put all my sub-lines down the left hand side so the reader will not have to look around for what they will be reading about.     Interview draftMe: HiMatt I heard that you will be releasing a new new album to go alone with your newest single, is this true? Matt: Yes Dan this is true it will be coming out in late November. Me: Good because you first single that came out was such a hit with all people. Matt: I am glad to hear it. Me :What kind music will be listening to in this album. Will the same style as before or will it be something that we have never heard before. Matt: I have decided to keep this album the same style as my music before this is because my fans like the style that I have done before. But I am sure that I will expand on my music genres later on in my music career. Me: Do you not think they want to see you doing something new? Matt : No not yet as I have only just stared as a full time successful artist so for now I will show people what my main style then I might move on to something different later on. Me: Other than your new album will you be doing anything else this year or into next year? Matt : Well once the album is out and I hope it is doing well my manager is looking into me doing my first tour.     Graphic Layout • Thereason that I have made a graphic layout of my magazines is to make sure that they will look presentable to viewers, because if they are not people will not want to buy the issue.     Location Recce Location Time Date Why The photo-shootwas taken in my own home in my kitchen. This seemed like a place to do it as I had a lot of space to do lots of different shot types. I did it in the kitchen around the time between 4pm and 5pm this way the light shines into the kitchen giving a natural light.     Permission Needed Contact neededto be made I will need to make sure that the person that I am taking my photos of will be ok with other people seeing these pictures of him. So I will get him to sign a contract saying that he is ok with it. Potential Hazards Location Why When taking my photos I will needed to be aware of the surroundings that I a doing it in so I can prevent and plan for anything that might go wrong. For example my artist will be playing am instrument in some of the photos that I am going to be taking of him. So I will need to make sure that these will not cause him harm if something goes wrong. The way that I will prevent him from coming to harm will be by making sure that when I am taking photos of him with his guitar I will make sure that he is sitting down or he has a guitar strap on this way he cant drop it on his feet and hurt him self. Also I will be using a camera so wen I am using it I will be wearing a strap that is attacked to the camera this way I cant drop it and hurt myself or anyone around. Another thing that could go wrong might be that items in my kitchen could get in the way and or could cause someone harm so I will make sure before that I have cleared a space this way I will not need to go any where near the main kitchen where things could go wrong.     Advertising Revenue In mymagazine I will have some advisements this will be a good way of making money and for other music based companies to expand. In my magazine there is one DPS for adverts and one full page so I will make 14,515 this is good because it means that this money can go to the workers and it can completely fund the printing cost.

    Profit and lossbrake down • I have to make sure that I am making money even though I am spending a lot. I will be making 14,515 on advisements however I will lose money on equipment, staff and print cost which will come to 537,301.55 so over all I will need to sell 537,570 copy's of my magazine before I star making a profit.

    Marketing the magazine •For the marketing of the my magazines I think that the best why to advertise will be going on to a radio or starting up a radio as this will draw in a lot more customers as they will know what type of music we will do and how the magazine is run. • It will also bring in more customers because people will just be going through stations finding good music and the music being played will draw in people that like the style of music this way the audience will be more loyal to the magazine and will be frequent customers buying. • This will also have a good affect on the magazine as on the radio will advertise the magazine articles and how to get subscriptions.

    Risk assessment I hadto make sure to do a risk assessment as I needed to make sure that nothing went wrong and hat I had all the backups that I needed and to make sure that if anything else went wrong I would be ready for it. For example if the camera was to run out of charge I would either have a back up camera or battery or I had my phone charged with the camera ready. Also I had to make sure that know one would walk in as I was doing my presentation as it would put me off and slow down the flow and I will be more likely to lose my train of thought.

    Safe working practice •Safe working practices is a method that allows stuff that are working under expected conditions to follow by these rules. These rules that will be put in place in order to keep the workers safe in the environment that they are in. If they do nor follow by these rules that might come to harm then there might be a falling out between the company. But if they have done something that they had said they wouldn’t do after signing a safe working practice it is simply their fault. The other important reason for there being a safe working practice is so that every working will be treated in the same way where no one will not be treated to the proper standard, but if someone was to get hurt it will not be because of any rule that was not included in the safe working practice document but because the worker was not following by the practice. • So for my magazine I will make sure that any new workers will read and safe working practice document this way they will know what it covers. I will also make sure that they will go though a training course this is so they will know how to use all of the equipment and programs that they will have to use and in order to keep them safe.

    Editors Code andpractice Children - Children must not be approached or photographed at school without permission of the authorities of the school. If under 16, children must not be interviewed/photographed on issues involving their own or another child’s welfare unless their parent/guardian agrees. Children in sex cases – under no circumstances should the press identify children under 16 who are victims or witnesses in cases involving sex offences. In any press report involving a sexual offence against a child, the child must not be identified, the adult is able to be identified. The word "incest" cannot be used where a child victim might be identified. Hospitals – a journalist must identify themselves while also getting permission from an executive before entering any non-public areas of hospitals (or similar institutions to pursue enquiries). Reporting crime - Unless genuinely relevant to the story, relatives/friends of people being convicted/accused of crime should not be identified without their consent. Unless a child's name is published, the editor should avoid identifying anyone under the age of 16 unless there is consent from the parent/guardian. Clandestine devices and subterfuge – the press must not publish or obtain information from secret cameras, listening devices or intercepting phone calls, emails texts etc. without consent. Victims of sexual assault – there must be no information or material published that could lead to the identification of a victim. Discrimination – details of someone's race, colour, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must not be mentioned unless genuinely relevant to the story. The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to someone’s, race, colour, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability. Financial journalism - Journalists must not use for their own profit financial information they receive in advance of its general publication, and they should not pass information onto others. They must not write about shares or securities in whose performance they know that they or their close families have a significant financial interest without disclosing the interest to the editor or financial editor. They must not buy or sell any shares or securities which they have written recently or intend to write later on. Confidential sources - Journalists have a moral obligation to protect confidential sources of information. Witness payments in criminal trials – there should be no payment/offer to a witness or anyone considered to be a witness. If there is a payment/offer made to someone who later then gives evidence, it must be disclosed to the prosecution and defence. The witness must also be advised of this. Payment to criminals – there should be no payment/offers for stories, pictures or information, which look to exploit a crime or to glorify crime generally. Payment must not be made directly to the criminal, via agents to convicted/confessed criminals or to the criminals associates, this includes family, friends and colleagues. The public interest – The public interest includes, but is not confined to: Detecting or exposing crime, or the threat of crime, or serious impropriety. • Protecting public health or safety. • Protecting the public from being misled by an action or statement of an individual or organisation. • Disclosing a person or organisation’s failure or likely failure to comply with any obligation to which they are subject. • Disclosing a miscarriage of justice. • Raising or contributing to a matter of public debate, including serious cases of impropriety, unethical conduct or incompetence concerning the public. • Disclosing concealment, or likely concealment, of any of the above.

    Royalties • Royalties iswhen a magazine has included content which is copyrighted and if someone else includes this information then they have pay the original magazine. • The NLA are a newspaper licensing company which sell copying licenses to newspapers and now magazine content. Therefore, NLA ensures that each publisher get their royalties. Q magazine and other magazine owned by Bauer Media are subscribe to the NLA. This means that any magazine that is owned by Bauer Media can use information that they has been put in magazine that Bauer also owns, as long as the magazine and Bauer confirm that it is allowed. • However if a magazine wants information from another magazine that is not owned by the same company but is signed up with NLA they can take the information but they will have to contact the magazine before hand. • For my magazine I will make sure to sign it up with NLA so this way I can be protected against other company's trying to take my content.

Magazines such as Q will not have water marks because it will make the magazine look bad so instead they will write the copy wright information on the inside of the front cover. This way my magazine can not have a bad reputation and people will like the magazine because of this.

Also I would like to reach over 100 thousand subscribers on my YouTube page I think these are good targets to try and reach in my first year because it will show other magazines that we will be pushing for top spot in a few year and show customers that this magazine will be staying around for a long time.
