A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

MATATAG CURRICULUM: ASSESSING THE READINESS OF ELEM. PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS I...NelTorrente

2. Location Recce Image Plan
Before taking the images for my
magazine I had to complete a
location recce. This meant I had
to visit the place in which I was
taking the photos and assess the
security and health and safety
hazards that may be a problem.
There was only one main fault
and this was that the ceilings
were very low. This meant
Declan had to make sure he
wouldn’t hit his head on the
ceiling.
3. Location Recce
Time
Why?
School corridor at 2pm
I took the images in a corridor as it is
bright and you can see the person very
clearly when there is natural light.
Shot Type
Props/Equipment
Lighting
Costume
Person
Why?
Mid shot a you could only see the waiste
up. I had zero props and equipment.
I did not use any specific lighting apart
from natural sunlight through the
window. This made the image sharper
and look more professional.
I told Declan to wear a big jacket to suit
the genre of the magazine.
I used my friend Declan as he isnt shy
infront of the camera and will look
natural being himself.
4. Location Recce 2
Contact Needed To Be Made
Evidence Of This
I will need to contact the artist before
hand to ensure that I have his
permission before taking the photos of
him. He will be sent an email with an
attachment form which he will need to
fill out and bring to the shoot.
Location specific
Why?
There are not many hazards in the
corridor of a school. This is because it is
a school and is kept safe. However the
only problems I may occur is that the
ceiling is quite low and the artist could
bang his head or that the floor is
slippery and he could fall over.
5. Hazards At The Workplace
Health and safety at work act is where all the
workers in any organisation are entitled to work
in conditions where risks to their health and
safety are regularly controlled. Under the health
and safety law, the main responsibility of this is
primarily down to the employers. Employers
have the duty to consult employees on health
and safety matters.
6. Regulatory Issues
IP/Watermark
Things that tend to have copyright can be also known as Intellectual
Property (IP) and this is protected by the law. IP can be divided into two
categories which are; Industrial Property and Copyright. As well as IP on
printed work for example on an image on google that has been printed, you
can get a digital watermark which protects any copyrighted content from
any magazine online and in any digital format. It is very significant to have
this because it means people will have to pay you to use your ideas and
information.
For example, particularly on my magazine, if you find an online copy of the
content then you cannot use it if it has a watermark on it. Additionally, you
have to contact me and either ask for permission or pay for it. This is good
for me as it is another source of income.
An IP/Watermark is demonstrated to the image on the right .
7. Ethical & Legal Issues
The Editors’ Code of Practice sets out the many rules that newspapers and magazines regulated by IPSO have
agreed to follow. To the left are three examples of the rules; Accuracy, Discrimination and Confidential Sources.
This relates to my magazine as AMP magazine must follow these rules before publishing a magazine. For example,
number 12, Discrimination. AMP magazine must double check the whole magazine including images and texts to
ensure there is no prejudice against ‘race, colour, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation or any physical or
mental illness or disability.
8. Permissions:
When I took the images for my front cover and double
page spread I had to ensure that the artist gave their full
permission to being photographed and the image being
published on print media. To do this I had to send an email
to the artist saying what they needed to wear, a time and a
location. I also attached a permission form which they had
to sign and send back to me. By gaining a permission
through this way, I have declared proof of a signed
document. This means that if there are any future legal
issues, it would not be at the fault of my magazine.
Area Assessment:
When searching for the location of the images there were
many checks that needed to be looked at in order to make
sure it was the right area. This risk assessment had to be
carried out to guarantee safety for both the artist and
people taking the photographs. Areas that should be
looked at are slippery floors, heights, hazards or uneven
ground.
Safe Working Practices
9. Conclusion
In this LO2 of UNIT 14 I looked at the location
Recce. This is examining and understanding what
was at the location of where I took my photos. This
was important as I had to analyze the risk
assessment involved. I also researched legal and
ethical issues. This is important and relates to my
magazine as AMP magazine must follow these rules
before publishing a magazine. Finally I looked at the
safe working practices involved and this is just like a
risk assessment. I analyzed two main things;
permissions and area assessment.
