connotes the magazine isn't going to be boring as they are stating

quite demanding highlighting the information will be top quality.

you associate a ‘chorus’ with a song.

 ‘We Love Pop’ is a monthly music magazine which launched in
September 2011.
 It costs £3.99 - As the years went on the magazine got more
expensive. The first magazine was £1 then it went to £2.99
 It was launched by publishing group Egmont. This magazine
was launched by Egmont five years after the teen magazine
Smash Hits closed. The first issue sold 119,000 copies. This is
very impressive, and reflects the success of the magazine.
Also, this magazine is one of the magazines that have done
well in times when magazine sales are going down.
Social class mostly likely the ABC2 demographic (this is based
upon parental income and demographic) as young girls at this
age will likely have pocket money to spend.

 ‘We Love Pop’ is the magazine I have chosen for my first
magazine and its genre is pop as you can tell by the name.
 Genre - Furthermore you can tell the genre is pop because of
the colours on the magazine. The bright pink connotes the
magazine will primarily aimed for the female gender. Also
the bright pink heart appeals to a younger demographic. Also
the fact the magazine has used artists such as ‘Little Mix’
and ‘One Direction’ highlight the magazine’s genre is pop
because they produce ‘pop’ music and are common in the pop
genre especially appealing to young females.
 The first issue of the magazine is out on Wednesday (20 July)
with a cover price of £1 and its launch will be supported by a
marketing campaign, including point of sale, outdoor media
and digital.
 The magazine will target a core audience of 13-16 year olds.
With in-depth interviews with pop stars, behind-the-scenes
exclusives, photos and a "high-end cover gift“ designed to
appeal to a savvy teen audience.

 The colours establish the house style of the magazine
because they stand out to the target audience which are
stereotypically teenagers who are attracted by the utopian
and vibrant colours. The pink colours connote a female
audience and femininity. The pink heart brand identity
connotes girls remember it by having a heart as the logo this
links to the love and admiration they would have for the pop
magazine. The bright yellow colours on the magazine connote
to stand out and make the puff promotion eye catching.
COLOUR SCHEME & HOUSE STYLE
PURPOSE AND MEANING
We Love Pop is a monthly
music magazine which
launched in September
2011. Each issue contains
68 pages and its target
audience is teenage girls
aged between 13-16 years
old.
The masthead looks bold,
bright and quirky as it is
slanted and the black and
pink which stands out. Black
normally has quite negative
connotations, however here
it could simply be used to
make the masthead literally
“pop” out the page to a pass
along audience. The colour
pink in the heart is
aesthetically pleasing and
connotes that it’s a girls
magazine.
Straplines, including features
on fashion, beauty and also
about boys. There are
supplementary images used
which are crucial for this age
group as they are attracted to
an image led magazine.
The verbal code slogan “Don’t
bore us. Get to the Chorus” from
one of the cover lines connotes
to the target audience to be
exciting and have a lot of
energy, as well as how the
readers stereotypically have
very little patience.
We Love Pop is published by
Egmont UK and has circulation
figures of around 115,000. The
typical content of a We Love Pop
issue are articles on
artists/bands, interviews,
features on film, fashion,
technology, and beauty and
advertisements from companies
also aiming at the teen audience
such as Universal Music, Boohoo
and So Fragrances.
PURPOSE AND MEANING
Price £2.99 –
This reveals that the
magazine is affordable
for teenagers because
they get a little bit of
pocket money and then
can buy the magazine.
There are similarly males on the
cover for the young girls who find
these boys attractive and
appealing both in their musical
talents and appearance.
Features on fashion, film,
technology and beauty link to the
young female audience also
especially when at this age girls
are discovering who they are.
The font, like on cover is
basic and simple as the
music and other features can
do the talking. Similarly their
is an informal feel with the
way the editors note looks
written almost like an
autograph which can link
with how magazines have
close relationships with their
audience.
There is quite a busy layout which
is still smart and can reflect
perhaps how this issue is packed
full of amazing things to benefit
the target audience.
PURPOSE AND MEANING
The masthead looks bold,
bright and quirky as it is
slanted and the pink and
yellow are strong colours that
stand out.
The cover lines are smart and
goes in well with the magazine.
They are clear to read and the
ones that are highlighted such
as “X RATED” and “INSIDE”
really stand out for the
audience.
The Main Head line denotes
clearly it’s about Rihanna and
shows she is the star appeal,
Richard dyer. Also the Main
Image is Rihanna which more
girls/boys will be interested in
because she is a pop star and a
singer!
This magazine establishes more
than just music on the front cover
and throughout the magazine
because it also has gossip in and
items which celebs wear so the
girls/boys would want to look more
like there favourite celeb and learn
more about them.
This magazine also the puff
promotion says it’s a new magazine
which will want the target audience
to buy it more for the latest gossip.
CONTENTS ANALYSIS
The masthead looks bold,
bright and quirky as it is
slanted and the black and
pink are strong colours that
stand out.
Black normally has quite
negative connotations
however here it could
simply be used to make the
masthead literally “pop”.
Similarly the neon pink has
connotations of happiness
and energy which sparks
from the colours used to
make it (red and white).
This could be a
representation of the
young teen audience.
Pink also has sterotypes
associated to the female
gender as the young
female audience could find
the cover male “hot”.
There is a direct eye contact
which pierces through to
the reader and create a real
intimate feel as its like the
celebs are looking at the
reader.
 In this magazine it has interviews with people and how they got famous from the
beginning. This magazine also has games inside the magazine on some pages, to
keep the younger generation interested in the magazine. Also has gossip about the
celebrities and what they do for they're hobbies, so we know more about them. This
magazine also broadcasts clothes sites for the target readership of teenagers who
want to be looking like their favourite celebrity.

PROOF OF DISTRIBUTION EMAIL
Leatherhead
I sent this email to the Bauer Media because then I know how they process their
magazines in the industry.
Date of publication – The first thing to do is to set up a date of
publication.
Managing the schedule – This is a really important step that you should
not take for granted when it comes to the production of a magazine .
Editorial and budgetary decision – The next step that is taken during the
production process of a magazine is the editorial decision.
Content Acquisition – The most important step because without content
we can’t have the magazine in the first place. Content therefore is the
main piece.
Sub-editing – This focuses on one major thing, which is quality control. •
Page Layout – In big publications, there is a special team responsible for
page layouts called the layout staff.
Proofreading – Once the above stage has been completed, the next stage
is the proofreading.
File emailed to printer – After the proofreading stage, the desktop
publishing file of the entire magazine is sent to the printer whose job will
be to print the magazine.
Distribution – The printing company, having finished with the printing of
the magazines, will package them neatly and send them to a warehouse.
PRODUCTION PROCESS

PROOF OF DISTRIBUTION EMAIL
I have forwarded my last
message I sent to Bauer
advertising company as I didn’t
get a response. So therefore I
sent another email to find out
the production process so that I
knew how to produce my
magazine like there's as they
are my inspiration.
FORMAT AND STYLE
The main image of both of these
magazines is a current, well
known female artist, which is
iconic because anyone who is
interested in this genre of music
will know who they are. In this
case they literally represent the
music.
The cover star also possesses
‘Star Appeal’ (theorist) as it is
Cheryl Cole and female readers
would look up to her because
she’s a singer and would want to
be like her.
The colour schemes for both
of these magazines are pinks
and purples, linking back
with the target audience of
females.
Front cover Freebees - Attract a
reader to buy the magazine as
stereotypical teen favourite
goodies are advertised.
House style- Bright primary
colours create a pop vibe
which stand out against each
other as they are opposed.
Crowed layout expresses how
much interesting things the
magazine includes. Bold
basic fonts are easy to read
and eye-catching.
FORMAT AND STYLE
The non-verbal code of the
main image of the first
contents page I have picked is
of male pop star Olly Murs, he
is an iconic image because
again for this genre of music
magazine, people will know
who he is.
Pop music Masthead
analysis Uneven framing
Medium angle shot makes
the female audience feel like
they’re right in front of a
famous attractive celebrity.
Medium close up shot shows
a very short distance
between the celebrity and
the audience. There is
selective focus within the
frame which gives the
audience a choice of what to
buy, view or enjoy.
Puff promotion - provides a
small amount of interesting
information about a certain
article therefore persuades
the reader to buy the
magazine and read it.
Barcode, price and issue
date-informs the customer
of vital information.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS
Main image- The main image is a
motivated image of Meghan Trainor.
The pop artist is looking glamorous
posing.
Pull Quotes - Pull quotes
interest the reader as they
are quoted by Meghan
Trainer and supports what is
said in the article.
Format - The format of the double
page spread consists of a large
main image of the artist features
and text in columns on the right
hand side of the empty space of
the picture.
Fancy font established by loads of colours to
highlight it, house style colours are continued.
Often inclusive language used again to involve the
reader in the text.
Stand First – It briefly
summarizes what the
page is about in a
humorous way.
Star appeal
(Richard Dyer) –
Megan Trainor is a pop
singer who appeals to
a male audience as
she is attractive and
also a female
audience because she
produces good music
and is pretty and
fashionable.
The target audience is directed at females aged
13-16 years old (Hartley). This age range would
stereotypically like music artists such as One
direction, Cher Lloyd, Tulisa from N-Dubz and
Rihanna as their type of music (R&B/Pop)
appeal to a younger audience.
Considering the price of the magazine is £2.99
this is a great price for the target audience as it
is very affordable for this age group of 13-16
year olds.
TARGET AUDIENCE

hanna
TARGET AUDIENCE
According to socio- economics needs graph the audience would fit in to the categories of D and E
because the age is 13-16 year olds therefore they wont have that much income and so they will
most likely be highlighted as students and unemployed. The price of the magazine is £2.99 which
is also a good price for this age group as they will not have much money to spend.
According to Katz the target audience would fit into the category ‘Diversion’. As they are able to
escape from everyday life stresses by reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them’ on up
to date music information and gossip. Also the target audience will be able to learn new songs and
new artists from reading the magazine therefore they will be educated by this magazine.
Maslow – According to Maslow the audience would be put in the category of “Social climbers”,
“survivors” and “Explorers”. The audience are ‘social climbers’ as they like the though of status
and having nice things, therefore they will like reading about celebrities who have this status and
‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer). They would be survivors as they like the thought of knowing the
magazine will be released monthly with new information about the music industry. Lastly, they
would be explorers as they are driven by social change so reading this magazine they will be
updated with new information.

TARGET AUDIENCE
According to the Psychographics table
the audience would fit into the
categories of ‘Aspirer’ and ‘Explorer’.
They would be aspirers because they
care about their appearance and are
quite materialistic. Therefore if they
care about these things they will care
about what is inside the magazine and
the artists inside the magazine. They
would be ‘explorers’ because they will
be full of energy and will like
difference. Therefore they will all the
different information that will be
included in the magazine and new
music and gossip.
MAGAZINE TWO
 Founders Mark Ellen and David Hepworth were dismayed by
the music press of the time, which they felt was ignoring a
generation of older music buyers who were buying CDs, then
still a new technology.
 Q was first published by the EMAP media group in October
1986, setting itself apart from much of the other music press
with monthly production and higher standards of photography
and printing.
 The magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and
more".
 Originally it was to be called Cue, but the name was changed
so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine.

genres meaning it is eclectic. Its main interest is new releases and upcoming
artists they also base on interviews. Their target audience is round 16 plus. Q

In this screen shot it tells
you to subscribe to the
magazine and what are the
latest issue is. Also track of
the day, playlists, interviews,
columns, Q awards and also
things you can win on the
website.
PURPOSE AND MEANING
Magazine masthead is just the
letter Q, it is in upper case font
which stands out and also the
white colouring of the font is
layered upon a prime red and
this helps it stand out too.
The headline Artic Monkeys is in
upper case and contrasts against
the simple background, also some
of the other musicians are behind
the lead singer.
The colours used are typical of
general rock magazines, with
red, black and white being the
main palette. However, blue is
also used in places to provide a
contrast with the red, and
perhaps to give the magazine a
possible ‘British’ feel.
The masthead is barefaced but
very simplistic. The font of the
masthead is very simple and
unique but shows effectiveness.
The colours used are white and
red which contrast against each
other. The red is very eye-
catching and will catch the
readers’ eyes easily. The fact
that the magazine is called’ Q’
shows simplistic and maturity
which suggests that there is a
older target audience.
Barcode: The barcode states
what issue the magazine and
gives the website and price of
the magazine.
Cover lines: The cover lines
are down the sides of the
magazine and state what
will be inside the magazine
to give the reader an insight
beforehand.
PURPOSE AND MEANING
Straplines

reading this magazine gives
you the knowledge of different
types of music and makes you

The target audience for Q
magazine are the older
generation such as people in
their 30's and 40's.
The background is in a field
which seems really out of place
for a music magazine. The
colour of the field contrast
against the red making a
statement by using different
ranges of bold colours.
The length of the magazine is
8.25cm whiles the width is
11.2cm.

tickets.
 The magazine also has biography’s of famous
people and interesting information about them
and what they’ve done to get themselves where
they are now.
CONTENT
CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS
Heading- which denotes what
type of page it is to the reader,
it’s the contents page so it will
have all the page numbers and
say what every page will be.
This page also says when songs
are released e.g. monthly.
Image – Main image reveals
that Adele is in the magazine
and might have a interview
about her or one of her songs
has been released.
Columns – The columns make the
page and the writing look neat and
organised and also makes it clear
to read what is going on.
Date – The date is on this page
to tell everyone how new the
songs that have come out and
if there's an interview how
dated that is, so everyone is
kept up to date.
There is a review at the
bottom and it lists new
albums, music videos, how to
buy, live music & where? And
also music books. They have
put this there so no one has
any questions and doesn't’t
need to search anything up
on Google because its all in
the magazine.
The target audience will be for young adults aged 16 -35+ because
there are young singers in the magazine and young people are mostly
interested in singers/bands their age. Also the target audience is
people who are into music and love reading about it and listening to
it.
 According to Hartley my magazine would appeal to 16-35 year olds,
female and male because of the eclectic genre meaning it has a
range of genres therefore would appeal to a range of different
audiences.
Also according to socio- economics needs graph the audience would
fit in to the categories of C1, C2, D and E. They would fit into the
categories of C1 downwards because with the type of magazine this
is, it swerves to the younger audience because of the content such as
you can win things and the artists like Adele who are young.
Furthermore the price of the magazine is £4.50 and this would more
likely appeal to the C1 end and the 30 year olds of the scale because
it is quite expensive.
According to Katz the target audience would fit into the category
‘Diversion’. As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses by
reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them’ ’ on up to date
music information and gossip. Also the target audience will be able
to learn new songs and new artists from reading the magazine
therefore they will be educated by this magazine.
Maslow – “Social climbers” and “survivors” – According to Maslow
they like expensive things the target audience would fit into the
category social climbers and they will like the celebrities and ‘star
appeal’ (Richard Dyer) inside the magazine . The survivors want to
know and like the routine of the magazine being produced monthly
with new information about the music industry.
TARGET AUDIENCE
TARGET AUDIENCE

the audience would fit into the

They would be aspirers because they

 Q magazine is an alternative music magazine. - It is published
monthly in the UK. It's publishing company is Bauer Consumer
Media.
 The picture shown conveys that it is a popular magazine for
people who like music and music fans but wouldn't’t be as
popular for other people.
FREQUENCY
 The house style is very manly as the colours used
are red and white. The colours are steadily used
throughout the page and link in well with each
other.
 The font's used are very simple, signifying the
target audience would be very comfortable and
simple and do not need very bold fonts to keep
them attracted.
 red connotes the colour of fire, so it is associated
with energy , danger, strength, power,
determination as well as passion, desire, and love.
Also black will be in my magazine and the colour
connotes power, elegance, formality, and mystery.
 The white connotes light and goodness, innocence,
purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color
of perfection. White means safety, purity, and
cleanliness.
COLOUR SCHEME AND HOUSE STYLE
 In LO1 I am talking about the target audience and the price of
Q magazine and We Love Pop magazine. Also the colour
scheme and the house style. Q magazine will be my magazine
of inspiration and it will help me make and plan my own
magazine in the next units.

MOOD BOARD - HA
 I chose these pictures for my mood board because they are
singers and rappers that are in teenage magazines. This is
important because the audience can personally identity (Katz)
with my magazine and it would interest them by attracting
them by the pictures.
 For example, Ed Sheeran is a pop singer and teenagers mostly
listen to pop music, like on Capital and Kiss FM.
CONCLUSION TO MY MOOD BOARD
MOOD BOARD - JKZ
 I have placed these images on my mood board because they
are older singers/rappers and would be ideal for the older
generation who listen to them.
 The genre for Artic monkeys is indie rock, therefore I have
chosen to put this in my mood board because I have a range
of genres, like R&B, Rock and Bass.

inspiration which is Q. The colour red connotes energy and fire therefore it highlights my
magazine is going to be full of new music information and will always keep you up to date.
Furthermore, it is eye catching and stands out which is good for when it is distributed into
shops. I chose black because it is bold and easy for the audience to read.
1. Get to know the world
2. A lot can happen in a month
3. Expand your mind, explore the

4. Live the interesting life.
5. No other gossip will do.
My target audience would
be teenagers aged 13-18.
I'm choosing this age
group because then relate
to everything and so can
they. It is directed towards
boys and girls because
then they aren’t restricted
to reading and listening to
the songs.

On the front cover it will share
information about interviews and what
pages they are on to read about it. Also
it will be the top 10 songs of the week;

It will be released every month
therefore there will be more pages
than a weekly magazine so there will
be more information. So there will be
more gossip for everyone to be
interested by. My magazine will
compete with other monthly

similar release pattern.

INSPIRATION FRONT COVER
The Masthead is just the letter
Q, it is in upper case font which
stands out and also the white
colouring of the font is layered
upon a prime red and this helps
it stand out too.
The writing ‘ Artic Monkeys is in
upper case and contrasts against
the simple background, also some
of the other musicians are behind
the lead singer.
The colours used are typical of
general rock magazines, with
red, black and white being the
main palette. However, blue is
also used in places to provide a
contrast with the red, and
perhaps to give the magazine a
possible ‘British’ feel.
The masthead is barefaced but very
simplistic. The font of the masthead
is very simple and unique but shows
effectiveness. The colours used are
white and red which contrast
against each other. The red is very
eye-catching and will catch the
readers’ eyes easily. The fact that
the magazine is called’ Q’ shows
simplistic and maturity which
suggests that there is a older target
audience.I'm going to repeat the colour
scheme and the house style
(Repeat, Steve Neale 1980)
INSPIRATION DPS
Strapline - The strapline

Main headline – Is the

that that’s who is in
the interview and
that’s who they are
interviewing.
Steve Neale – 1980; “Genres are
instances of repetition and differences”
therefore I will repeat things such as the
image at the top of the page.
The paragraph columns make the
page look neater and well set out.
Also it is easy it read.
The artist who is the
main feature is
someone who is
extremely well
known in the music
industry, the clothes
are smart
suggesting he
might be a bit indie
and might show it

well.

also goes in with the

looks smart.

good to produce a graphic layout so you can

INTERVIEW DRAFT PLANNING
I have had to draft plan an interview for my magazine but took inspiration from an interview in Q magazine. In this lay out the
text and images are spread out and have space. It has a clear heading that it is an interview and who about. Also this page
layout has two artistes on it being interviewed. In this interview they are talking about two artists and has pictures to show
highlight who they are talking about.
 I chose Fetty Wapp because all the teenage girls/boys listen
to him and he is in the age category, target audience and
genre of my magazine.
 Fetty Wapp is the star producers appeal (Richard Dyer)
because he’s always on Capital and Kiss FM which teenagers
listen to mostly everyday, so they know who he is.
 I also chose Fetty because he’s an easy person to interview
and he’s laid back person to talk to, and also is down with all
the trends so my target audience would relate to him a lot.
DRAFT INTERVIEW
 Fetty takes time out from making his third album to speak to us JKZ about life inside and outside of
the music world.
 Hello Fetty, glad I’m finally getting to interview you, how are you and what have you been doing this
week?
 Hi Jess, I am great thanks, hope all you lot are good at JKZ. This week has been so busy man
considering I am in the process of making my third album, which is going to be seriously good, watch
out, and listen out!
 Glad to hear it, we are so excited to hear your new album. What is your album going to be called?
 I can’t actually tell you that right now, it is a secret (laughs). But trust me it will be big as after the
third album I am going to take some time out of writing music and have some chill time.
 You can tease us like that Fetty. So outside of work considering you are going to be taking some time
out. What kind of music do you listen to? Do you listen to your own music?
 (Sarcastic/laughing) Bit of classical actually. I joke, I joke. I love my music and I do love listening to it
but obviously I listen to it everyday so it can get a bit repetitive. At the moment I am such a Bieber
fan. Did you watch him at the Brits? He was serious class. Oh and Rihanna and Drake with their song
“Work”, loved it! That type of music is more up my street!
 Yeah we watched the Brits here at JKZ and you are right Bieber, Drake and Rihanna was excellent. So
what’s your life style out of work? What are your hobbies?
 I do love a good party with my mates usually at the weekend though as I’m busy writing my music on
the weekdays. I don’t really have any hobbies to be honest, my life is all about music but I am always
attending music festivals and gigs especially in London. I went and saw ‘Rocky N.T.I’ at a gig a couple
of days ago actually.
DRAFT INTERVIEW TO FETTY WAPP
 What are your favourite festivals to go to then Fetty?
 Oh I do love a festival! I go to loads, mainly in the summer – if I’m not playing in them. I went to ‘We Are Fest’ last
summer in July it was proper good, definitely my fav fest. I am going to be playing at ‘V Fest’ this year, which I am
also proper, excited about.
 We are so excited to see you at V Fest here at JKZ. How old were you when you knew you wanted to produce music?
 I was 15 when I knew I wanted to be about music. My dad was into music and would always play it around me. So
that helped me get into music and know about it more and know about the instruments. I started rapping at school
with a group of friends as a joke and then they all told me I was good and should take it further.
 What advice would you give to your fans if they wanted to become like you?
 Be yourself and keep producing and never give up. The industry is really hard to get into so you have to make your
way up, because it’s all worth it when you put all the hard work in and it gets easier.
 You have lots of fans so that is some great advice. Who are your main fans out there? What age group?
 I love my fans and I thank every single one of them, I would not be anywhere without them so I am really greatful
for all their love and support and mainly for buying my albums. I would say my main fans are the ages of 16 -25 year
olds especially the younger ones because of my rapping and the words I use in my songs can be said as quite
street.
 Has it been a rough road for you then?
 Yea it has been a rough road. My parent’s spilt up when I was 15. I mostly lived with my dad when it happened
because my mum was in and out of hospital because she had depression, because of that I focused more on music
as it made me feel better about the situation.
 Sorry to hear that Fetty, although its good to see your life back on track! Thank you for taking the time to speak to
us about your life outside the music industry hopefully you’ll come back and speak to us soon.

I have put the strapline next to the front heading because it will be the second thing people see and then want them to read it even more. The
main image is put in the middle so people will know what the magazine holds inside. Barcode is there to show when the magazine comes out
and how much it is. The main image is in the middle because in my magazine of inspiration the main image is in the middle of the page.
Strapline – My strapline is “A lot can

they see my logo. This is relevant because
when they read my strapline they will

MAGAZINE MASTHEAD/LOGO
M y t arget a udience
The target audience according to H artley will be for young adults
aged 1 6 -35+ because they’re more young singers in the magazine
and young people are mostly interested in singers/bands their age.
Also the target audience is people who are into music and love
reading about it and listening to it.
 According to Hartley my magazine would appeal to 16 -35 year
olds, female and male because he looked at gender and age.
Also According to s ocio- economics needs graph the audience
would fit in to the categories of C1, C2, D a nd E because the age is
16-35 year olds therefore they wont have that much income and so
they will be highlighted as students and unemployed.
According to Katz the target audience would fit into the category
‘Diversion’. As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses
by reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them.’
M aslow – “social climbers” and “survivors” as they like nice
things and ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer). Survivors because they like
routine and the thought of knowing “JKZ” will be released monthly
with new information (social climbers).
Psychographics - the study and classification of people according
to their attitudes, aspirations, and other psychological criteria,
especially in market research.
Q m a gazine i n fluence o n m y m a gazine
Qs magazine is aged at adults ages 30+
 Would be based on the B and C2 demographics.
Hartley’s 7 Subjectivities this chart illustrates that the
percentage demographic of readers are male aged 20-50 years old .
The theory Katz places more focus on the consumer, or audience .

MY TARGET AUDIENCE
The house and style of my magazine will be modern and the
colours will be mainly red, red connotes the colour of fire, so it is
associated with energy , danger, strength, power, determination as
well as passion, desire, and love. Also black will be in my
magazine and the colour connotes power, elegance, formality, and
mystery.
but will be putting some dark green as well around the magazine.
Also the backgrounds will be light grey on all the pages.
I choose these colours because
they all go together and suit the
age range of my magazine and
genre of it.
I will be ‘repeating’ (Steve Neale - 1980) my masthead throughout
my
Magazine as well as my house colours, this keeps it consistent so
people will notice it more.
HOUSE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE - JKZ
HOUSE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE - HA
I used these colours for my second magazine
because they are similar to the ‘We Love Pop’ and
Q magazine I analyzed. That shows I have used
my magazine of inspiration for this magazine.
Colour Scheme will be Dark red, blue and black. I
chose the colour blue because today, blue is
embraced as the color of heaven and authority,
therefore the connation's of blue connote the
magazine will be superior in the market. The
colour dark red represents power and strength. I
have used this colour for my magazine to suggest
that the magazine is a powerful magazine and
will attract the target audience. I have also
chosen the colour black to show mystery and the
unknown this will make the audience intrigued
and wanting to read more.
 In LO2 I have been researching more about what I will be putting
into my magazine and deciding who will be in it and also how it will
look on the front cover, where I will put the logo and headings and
cover lines.
 Also I looked into the mind map and what ideas I can put on my
magazine e.g. cover head, puff promotion, what I will call my
magazine and the barcode etc.
 I also looked into a mood board for ideas of whom I would put in
my magazine.
 Overall it was easier to design everything this way to help me
know and find out what I wanted my magazine to be like and
what style of magazine I wanted.
 The conclusion for all this is the analyzing of the magazines and
then being able to make your own front cover by drawing drafts
of it so you can change what you’ve done wrong to improve.
CONCLUSION
SURVEY MONKEY
I got 11 responses of my survey monkey and this graph highlights the type of
responses I got. All the questions reveal what type of things people are into and how
much they would be spending on their magazine.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
This graph illustrates they’re
more female than males who
filled out this questionnaire and
what type of demographic is the
magazine designed for or who is
attracts.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
This question reveals that there are
more old teenagers who filled this
out than older adults.
This could mean that the target
audience is for teenagers and young
adults.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
This question has a variety of answers to
it so the genre could be anything which
that reader likes. This helps me with
making my magazine because then I can
relate the magazine to everyone.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
On this question it highlights how
often people buy a magazine and
most of the people who answered it
said every month or never. This can
help me decide whether to produce
my magazine monthly or weekly and
looking at the results I need to make it
every month so it suits what people
want more.
MAGZINE QUESTIONAIRE
In my survey monkey questionnaire
and it shows how much people would
spend on a magazine. Most people
said £1-2 which would more be for an
older magazine. And the more
expensive magazine like the £3-4
would be for a kids magazines
because they would have toys in them
so would be more expensive.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
On this question on my questionnaire
I'm analyzing why you would buy a
magazine. Most people said for the
gossip and some people said general
information and pictures. This helps
me with making my magazine so I
know what to put on my magazine so
everyone will enjoy reading it.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
This question on my questionnaire is
asking if you’d buy a magazine for the
gift. Most people said ‘yes’ this can
reveal they are not buying the
magazine for the information therefore
they might be putting it in the bin and
just having the toy. The rest of them
said ‘no’ which means they would want
to buy the magazine for the information
inside the magazine and not just the
toy. This also helps me with my
magazine by deciding whether to have
a gift in the magazine or not.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
This question on my
questionnaire is asking if you
would subscribe to a magazine?
Most people said ‘no’ this
conveys how a magazine
subscription service may not be
as popular as buying it in the
store.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
I gained feedback when I asked
people what their favorite artistes
were, the reason for doing this is to
know what type of artists and genre
of music I would include and will help
me with making my magazine.
MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE
This question on my survey monkey
connotes why would you buy the
magazine? And most people said
for the gossip and for the pictures
this conveys due the my young
target audience they would prefer
more gossip and images, so when
creating my magazine I know not to
put loads of content inside it.
Format: I am going to create a magazine in the genre of pop.
Working Title:
My working title is JKZ although it might change because I don’t know whether to keep the smaller bit of the title
straight under each letters of JKZ or just place it underneath. The music magazine is very simple and easy to read
because the font is red and white background and is very easy to read. The title of the magazine JKZ will be placed
at the top Left hand corner. The colours that the title will be presented in are black, red , white and some bits of
dark green.
Genre:
My genre will be targeted at 15-25 year olds because it will be for teenagers and young adults who enjoy pop music,
R&B and Hip, Hop music.
Content:
‘JKZ’ magazine will be full of pictures, articles, album reviews, gig reports and song lyrics. The publication will also
feature bands that are generally quite small and not mainstream. Most will be signed to small record labels or
perhaps not signed at all.
Style or Approach:
The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be red, black, grey and dark green.
The colour red was chosen from Q magazine because it’s my magazine of inspiration.
The colour Dark green connotes that it’s a different colour and stands out and also suits the target audience.
I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because it’s an easy way to
sort and make everything up clearly.
Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing the front cover will be the text tools
because then I can add my text it easily.
Audience:
PRICE; £2.70
The audience are male and female. They are 15-25 in general although some might be older and a few younger.
Music is a big part of their life and they will base most of their activities and their style around this music.
Length:
What will the size of the magazine be (A3, A4) and why
I intend to make 16 pages including the front and back cover. It will be A4 in size.
Format - my genre of my “HA” magazine is pop. It will be obvious that it is pop because it will have pop articles on
the front cover.
Working title – My verbal code “HA” means my magazine will have some jokes inside of it to keep people
entertained and focused on the magazine.
Genre - My magazine is a pop magazine. My magazine of inspiration is “We heart Pop”. Which is also a pop
magazine, as you can tell with the title. I chose this magazine because it has the detail and frame that I liked and
wanted on my magazine and I have changed it around as well.
Content – My magazine will be full of images and games for the young teens to play and not get bored with it and
a waste of money. My magazine will also be supplying a toy in the front of the magazine so more teens will buy it
more and then make more of a profit by it.
Style or Approach - My magazine won’t be the same text all the way through. There will be some pages which will be
out going and bright to catch peoples eyes more.
Audience – My target audience will be girls 11- 17
Length - My magazine will be 62 pages long and some pages will be A4 like posters will fold out to be bigger so
the young girls can put them in their rooms.
Frequency - My magazine will be £2.70, and it will be a monthly magazine.
 In my proposal I talk about my target audience and how much
my magazine will be also I talk about the colour scheme and
house style. I made a proposal before I started making my
magazine so I have ideas for my front cover and double page
spread.

FRONT COVER IDEA - HA
I have made a Graphic layout
Of my magazine to see if everything would fit
on the page and makes it easier for me to see
what needs changing and what doesn't’t need
moving around on the
Page. I have also found it easier with this
graphic layout because if I don’t like something
I can easily change it inside of rubbing it out or
starting again on paper.

DRAFT INTERVIEW TO FETTY WAPP
CONTINUED
The house and style of my magazine will be modern and the
colours will be mainly red, red connotes the colour of fire, so it is
associated with energy , danger, strength, power, determination as
well as passion, desire, and love. Also black will be in my
magazine and the colour connotes power, elegance, formality, and
mystery.
but will be putting some dark green as well around the magazine.
Also the backgrounds will be light grey on all the pages.
I choose these colours because
they all go together and suit the
age range of my magazine and
genre of it.
I will be keeping my masthead throughout my
Magazine as well as my house colours, this keeps it consistent so
people will notice it more.
HOUSE STYLE OF THE
MAGAZINE - JKZ
SECOND HOUSE STYLE OF THE
MAGAZINE - HA
TEST PHOTOGRAPHY –
FRONT COVER & DPS
These are all the Test pictures I took of Izzy and Will. Also all the different ones with Izzy’s facial expression,
her clothes are up to date in fashion it could also inspire people to dress like her.
Once I tested Izzy I decided I wanted to use Wills pictures because they related to my interview which was on
Fetty Wapp which is a boy and would fit the stereotype of the genre.
PLAN FOR IMAGES
PLAN FOR IMAGES
My t a r g e t a u d i e n ce
The target audience will be for young adults aged 1 6 - 3 5 + because
they’re more young singers in the magazine and young people are
mostly interested in singers/bands their age. Also the target audience
is people who are into music and love reading about it and listening to
it.
 According to Hartley my magazine would appeal to 16 -35 year olds,
female and male because he looked at gender and age.
Also According to s o c i o - e c o n om i c s needs graph the audience would fit
in to the categories of C 1 , C 2 , D a n d E because the age is 16 -35 ye ar
olds therefore they wont have that much income and so they will be
highligh ted as students and unemployed.
According to K a t z the target audience would fit into the category
‘Diversi on’ . As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses by
reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them.’
Ma s l o w – “social climbe rs” and “survivo rs ” as they like nice things and
‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer). Survi vo rs because they like routine and the
thought of knowing “JKZ” will be released monthly with new informa t io n
(social climbers ).
p sychographics - the study and classification of people according
to their attitudes, aspirations, and other psychological criteria,
especially in market research.
Q ’ s t a r g e t a u d i e n ce
Qs magazine is aged at adults ages 30+
 Would be based on the B and C2 demograph ics.
Hartley’s 7 Subject i v i t ies this chart illust ra tes that the percentage
demographic of readers are male aged 20-50 years old .
The theory Katz places more focus on the consumer, or audience .

MY TARGET AUDIENCE
 This magazine would have to have something special about it
which attracts the reader more because it’s a competitive
business to get into with magazines and more people will be
against you for doing the same genre as you.
 To be ahead of the magazine market is to have a unique ideas
and a suitable magazine for your genre.
 Although by gaining a higher readership than the competitors
is by having a low price for your magazine so people would by
the cheapest one but still have good context inside and the
same as a expensive magazine.
MAGAZINE MARKET PLACE
 My magazine will cost £2.99 because all teenagers in the age
range will be able to afford it with their pocket money.
 Also it’s the same price as the Q magazine which makes it
more real.
 Hartley's 7 subjectivities and how age, gender, class, self
image , nationality, family and ethnicity should be considered
when looking at spending power.
SPENDING POWER

/Q
 Firstly, I created a my front cover by using a template
which was called the international option.
 Then I used paint bucket and had a grey background
but then thought that was boring so I used the
gradient tool and made it fade out a bit to make it
more interesting.
 Next I inserted my logo for ‘JKZ’ onto my front cover
and edited it with the drop down shadow by using
blending options.
 Then I added the text ‘Fetty Wapp’ by using the text
tool to add the text in. Then I used the blending
options and made the text bolder and clearer.
 Next I added the picture of Will onto a separate
document and used the quick selection tool and
deleted the background of it so its just will, secondly
I used the ‘blending options’ and edited around the
edges of him to make them smoother.
STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY FRONT
COVER
 I then selected the photo of Will and
dragged it onto my front cover template and
resized it to the size I wanted.
 Next I changed the colour of the ‘Fetty
Wapp’ to a light grey colour because I
couldn't’t see it with the bottom of the
picture also being a dark colour and wanted
it to stand out more.
 I then added the puf f promotion onto my
front cover; I made a small red circle using
the shape tool and then used the paint
bucket the make it red. Then I wanted it to
stand out more so I used the blending
options and made it have a little shadow on
it. Then I added some text on it and
advertised a festival in it too.
 Af ter that, I made a barcode; by doing this I
had to use the public drive videos and I got
a barcode and inserted it onto my magazine,
then I put the details of when my magazine
is released (monthly).
 Next I added some icons above it like
Facebook & Twitter to show where you can
promote it more. Also I put a Hash tag so
people can Hash tag the magazine more and
get more people involved with knowing about
it.
STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY FRONT
COVER
 Lastly, I Added who is featured in my magazine. By doing this
I used the Text tool and made some lines to out underneath as
it’s the same in my magazine of inspiration.
STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY FRONT
COVER
 Firstly, I opened my DPS template up and
changed the background to white using the
paint bucket tool. Then I added my ‘JKZ’ logo
by going to insert and added my JKZ logo as a
picture.
 Then I made two separate pictures and added
two versions of will to go at the top. I used the
quick selection tool and deleted the
background and then used ‘filters’ to make an
effect on will and I chose the cartoon one.
Then I made them face each other and made it
into one photo.
 After that I added in my interview with Fetty
wapp. And made columns for the writing to go,
also for it to look smart and organized.
 Next I made page numbers to go at the bottom
of the page. I used the text tool and made
little numbers and moved them where I
wanted then I also put my logo JKZ next to it
as it’s the same in my magazine of
inspiration.
 I then added a heading using the Text I found
on Da font and downloaded it to my text tool
and used it. I had to made it big enough to fill
half a page and stand out a lot.

 My magazine flat plan is useful because it enables me to see
what my magazine would look like in full and what will be
included inside the magazine. I can also see where my double
page spread will go.
MAGAZINE FLAT PLAN CONCLUSION
MAGAZINE FINAL FRONT COVER
My magazine will be called JKZ because as the meaning of
it is supposed to be ‘jokes’ it could illustrate the genre is
entertaining and will be full of juicy gossip about the music
industry and the audience will not get bored of the music
and the information inside.
The font style is ‘Myriad Pro’ with the font colour being white
with a red background similar to Q.
The competition in the market will be with Q, NME, XXL and
Kerrang! because they are magazine of a similar genre.
I am going to change a couple colours on my magazine from
my ‘Q’ inspiration magazine and I am going to repeat the
interview on another page of my magazine.
My colour scheme is Red, Black and Grey
Masthead – Is he same deign as Q’s masthead.
Cover lines- I put my cover lines in the same place as Q’s so
both magazines are similar.
Barcode - I placed the barcode in the same place as Q’s
magazine, which I am keeping the same.
The main image – the main image Is in the same place as
the one on Q’s magazine.
MAGAZINE FINAL DPS
On the double page spread the star
appeal (Richard Dyer) is Fetty Wapp.
He is appealing because he fits with
the eclectic genre of my magazine.
There is a whole interview of him
inside the life of the music industry
and outside. I have used the same
colour such as red and black similar to
the front cover to keep up with the
brand identity.
MAGAZINE FRONT COVER SECOND IDEA
My magazine will be called HA because it stands
for ‘High Audio’ as it relates to music and the
word ‘Audio’ connotes straight away to the
audience that the magazine will provide you with
music information. The word ‘High’ connotes the
information will be top quality and up to date.
I chose the colour blue because today, blue is
embraced as the color of heaven and authority,
therefore the connation's of blue connote the
magazine will be superior in the market,
alongside other competitors such as Q, NME &
XXL.
MAGAZINE DPS SECOND IDEA
On the double page spread the
star appeal (Richard Dyer) is
Fetty Wapp. He is appealing
because he fits with the eclectic
genre of my magazine.
I have used the same colour blue
as on my front cover to keep up
with the brand identity.
 In conclusion my magazine JKZ will feature Fetty Wapp on the
front cover and double page spread. I have made a few
changes compared to my plans as I feel the changes I have
made make my front cover and DPS look more professional
now I have finished I will be pitching my idea of JKZ and HA.
CONCLUSION
ENVIRONMENT OF PRESENTATION
This is the environment I have presented
my work in and the desks and computers
are where everyone was sitting to see my
work being presented.
Also the projector was being used to
project my presentation onto the screen so
its big and clear for everyone to see.
The clicker was used to change slide easily
and with no fuss.
Also it has a laser on the end of it so I
pointed out what was important in my
presentation.
EVIDENCE OF PITCH AND WITNESS
STATEMENT
This screen shot illustrates me presenting my pitch to everyone. Based on
verbal feedback from everyone it helped me correct my mistakes throughout
my magazine.
Once I completed my pitch I was given a witness statement from the head
publisher which helped me also improve on my pitch.
A negative on the feedback that I got was that I needed to
add more detail to the slides I had done. By having this as
written feedback it means I can go back and check if I have
done everything correctly and not miss anything out.

SOURCES FOR PRESENTATION
 PowerPoint
 Prezi – I Uploaded my PowerPoint to Prezi
 Work document – I had all my proposals on there. And my
production plan
 Internet – I had to search survey monkey up on there and
use N.craftswordpress for some useful help/tips.
 Public drive – I used the public drive to check my whiteness
statements and use it for example help.
 Paper & pens – I used paper and pens to draw my hand
drawn drafts out.
MATERIALS USED
Feedback of Pitch – Witness Statement
These are the feedback
comments I got given back
when I finished my
presentation. This helps me
know what I need to re-do and
what things I have done well
in.
FEEDBACK OF PITCH – SURVEY MONKEY
This is my feedback from my
presentation. This shows what I
can improve on my magazine,
this also helps me to know
what I can improve on and
make everything perfect.
FEEDBACK OF PITCH – SURVEY MONKEY
This question on the survey reveals
that most people would recommend
my magazine to other people and 1
people wouldn't’t recommend it and
the other 1 people would think about
recommend it.
Pitch Improvements
DPS – incomplete and lacking in convention such as the drop capital
Distribution – “amount of the copies I’ll be doing” – distributing? Put into circulation?
LACKING in industry terminology
Flat plan – lacking in conventional layout
“I’m going to be using Facebook because it’s cheap” – how do you know this?
DPS IMPROVEMENTS
I added a drop capital so it makes the
interview stand out and look appealing to
the audience.
I created my DPS on ‘In design’ so it will
created my columns and layout for my
magazine for me which made it easier to
create my magazine.
I have changed the colour of the
interviewer to red (which is also my house
style) and It also made it look separated
and neater.

PITCH IMPROVEMENTS - CHANGES TO
FLAT PLAN
AFTER
My magazine flat plan was
only 32 pages before I
made the corrections which
is only for a weekly
magazine therefore I
changed my magazine flat
plan by adding more pages
and now I have 64 pages.
PITCH IMPROVEMENTS - CHANGES MADE-
FRONT COVER.
Before After
FINAL FRONT COVER
I have changed the puff
promotion to make it
stand out more and
visible to the reader.
I have put a white outline
on the main headline
because you couldn’t see
it clearly without it. Also it
looks more professional
I have moved the
coverlines to the right
more so they didn’t
cover Will’s face and
then made him stand
out more.
Before
I have kept my logo the
same throughout my
magazine because when
pitching people preferred
this logo compared to my
other one.
I have changed the main
image because this
image fitted the genre to
my magazine more.
 My launch date is 9th July 2016
 I have some upcoming festivals in my magazine for V Festival
& wireless & reading. These festivals are in my magazine
because teenagers and young adults go to them so they can
relate and would enjoy reading the magazine more.
CALENDAR EVENTS
 HP Stream 11-r001na Laptop 32GB (Violet Purple)
 £159.00 x 10 = £1,590
 Office Space Rental in Guildford - GU1 - Serviced Offices Guildford

BUDGET SUMMARY
ETHICAL & LEGAL ISSUES
Copy right issues – Copyright means you have to ask for permission to use
their work. This can be shown on a photo or written work. This means I will
have copyright on my work so then people will have to email me and ask for
permission to use my work.
Data protection act - Data protection act means setting up rules that
people have to follow by having Information Commissioner to enforce the
rules.
Intellectual property - Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind,
such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names
and images used in commerce.
 Making sure I held down CTRL shift when resizing my pictures
so they're not pixilated and blurry.
 Making sure I have saved my work, every 15 minutes so I
don’t loose work and have to do it again.
 Checking if the layers on Photoshop are all named so I can
tell the difference.
RISK ASSESSMENT
In my conclusion I have looked further into the feedback that I
got given once I had presented my pitch to the class. This
meant in depth analysing of the suggested improvements and
how they will affect the production of the magazine. My
improvements were to check through the work and check
spelling, and to see if I have finished everything and completed
it all to the best standard I could.

Furthermore, the slogan is quite demanding highlighting the information will be top quality. • 5. MAGAZINE ONE ‘We Love Pop’ is edited by Malcolm Mackenzie, the former music editor of Broadcast International’s invalid free newspaper thelondonpaper, and will launch with a print run of 200,000. “We think popular” is the slogan for Bauer, because it highlights that the target audience are confident. The connotations are that they also refer themselves to being ‘popular’ and that connotes authority. The advertising campaign will contain point-of-sale activity with retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Co-op, Sainsbury’s, Morrison's and WH Smith Travel, advertising on London buses and digital activity on Stardoll, Sugarscape and Vevo.com. • 6.  ‘We Love Pop’ is a monthly music magazine which launched in September 2011.  It costs £3.99 - As the years went on the magazine got more expensive. The first magazine was £1 then it went to £2.99  It was launched by publishing group Egmont. This magazine was launched by Egmont five years after the teen magazine Smash Hits closed. The first issue sold 119,000 copies. This is very impressive, and reflects the success of the magazine. Also, this magazine is one of the magazines that have done well in times when magazine sales are going down. Social class mostly likely the ABC2 demographic (this is based upon parental income and demographic) as young girls at this age will likely have pocket money to spend.  FREQUENCY http://www.welovepopmag. co.uk/
  • 7.  These are the shops that sell ‘we heart pop’ magazine RETAIL OUTLETS http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/arti cle/1080493/egmont-launches- new-teen-magazine-we-love-pop#
  • 8.  ‘We Love Pop’ is the magazine I have chosen for my first magazine and its genre is pop as you can tell by the name.  Genre - Furthermore you can tell the genre is pop because of the colours on the magazine. The bright pink connotes the magazine will primarily aimed for the female gender. Also the bright pink heart appeals to a younger demographic. Also the fact the magazine has used artists such as ‘Little Mix’ and ‘One Direction’ highlight the magazine’s genre is pop because they produce ‘pop’ music and are common in the pop genre especially appealing to young females.  The first issue of the magazine is out on Wednesday (20 July) with a cover price of £1 and its launch will be supported by a marketing campaign, including point of sale, outdoor media and digital.  The magazine will target a core audience of 13-16 year olds. With in-depth interviews with pop stars, behind-the-scenes exclusives, photos and a "high-end cover gift“ designed to appeal to a savvy teen audience. GENRE http://www.welovepopmag.co.uk/ http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/article/1089979/love-pop-teen-mag-posts-strong-first-edition-sales
  • 9.  The colours establish the house style of the magazine because they stand out to the target audience which are stereotypically teenagers who are attracted by the utopian and vibrant colours. The pink colours connote a female audience and femininity. The pink heart brand identity connotes girls remember it by having a heart as the logo this links to the love and admiration they would have for the pop magazine. The bright yellow colours on the magazine connote to stand out and make the puff promotion eye catching. COLOUR SCHEME & HOUSE STYLE
  • 10. PURPOSE AND MEANING We Love Pop is a monthly music magazine which launched in September 2011. Each issue contains 68 pages and its target audience is teenage girls aged between 13-16 years old. The masthead looks bold, bright and quirky as it is slanted and the black and pink which stands out. Black normally has quite negative connotations, however here it could simply be used to make the masthead literally “pop” out the page to a pass along audience. The colour pink in the heart is aesthetically pleasing and connotes that it’s a girls magazine. Straplines, including features on fashion, beauty and also about boys. There are supplementary images used which are crucial for this age group as they are attracted to an image led magazine. The verbal code slogan “Don’t bore us. Get to the Chorus” from one of the cover lines connotes to the target audience to be exciting and have a lot of energy, as well as how the readers stereotypically have very little patience. We Love Pop is published by Egmont UK and has circulation figures of around 115,000. The typical content of a We Love Pop issue are articles on artists/bands, interviews, features on film, fashion, technology, and beauty and advertisements from companies also aiming at the teen audience such as Universal Music, Boohoo and So Fragrances.
  • 11. PURPOSE AND MEANING Price £2.99 – This reveals that the magazine is affordable for teenagers because they get a little bit of pocket money and then can buy the magazine. There are similarly males on the cover for the young girls who find these boys attractive and appealing both in their musical talents and appearance. Features on fashion, film, technology and beauty link to the young female audience also especially when at this age girls are discovering who they are. The font, like on cover is basic and simple as the music and other features can do the talking. Similarly their is an informal feel with the way the editors note looks written almost like an autograph which can link with how magazines have close relationships with their audience. There is quite a busy layout which is still smart and can reflect perhaps how this issue is packed full of amazing things to benefit the target audience.
  • 12. PURPOSE AND MEANING The masthead looks bold, bright and quirky as it is slanted and the pink and yellow are strong colours that stand out. The cover lines are smart and goes in well with the magazine. They are clear to read and the ones that are highlighted such as “X RATED” and “INSIDE” really stand out for the audience. The Main Head line denotes clearly it’s about Rihanna and shows she is the star appeal, Richard dyer. Also the Main Image is Rihanna which more girls/boys will be interested in because she is a pop star and a singer! This magazine establishes more than just music on the front cover and throughout the magazine because it also has gossip in and items which celebs wear so the girls/boys would want to look more like there favourite celeb and learn more about them. This magazine also the puff promotion says it’s a new magazine which will want the target audience to buy it more for the latest gossip.
  • 13. CONTENTS ANALYSIS The masthead looks bold, bright and quirky as it is slanted and the black and pink are strong colours that stand out. Black normally has quite negative connotations however here it could simply be used to make the masthead literally “pop”. Similarly the neon pink has connotations of happiness and energy which sparks from the colours used to make it (red and white). This could be a representation of the young teen audience. Pink also has sterotypes associated to the female gender as the young female audience could find the cover male “hot”. There is a direct eye contact which pierces through to the reader and create a real intimate feel as its like the celebs are looking at the reader.
  • 14.  In this magazine it has interviews with people and how they got famous from the beginning. This magazine also has games inside the magazine on some pages, to keep the younger generation interested in the magazine. Also has gossip about the celebrities and what they do for they're hobbies, so we know more about them. This magazine also broadcasts clothes sites for the target readership of teenagers who want to be looking like their favourite celebrity. CONTENT
  • 15. PROOF OF DISTRIBUTION EMAIL Leatherhead I sent this email to the Bauer Media because then I know how they process their magazines in the industry.
  • 16. Date of publication – The first thing to do is to set up a date of publication. Managing the schedule – This is a really important step that you should not take for granted when it comes to the production of a magazine . Editorial and budgetary decision – The next step that is taken during the production process of a magazine is the editorial decision. Content Acquisition – The most important step because without content we can’t have the magazine in the first place. Content therefore is the main piece. Sub-editing – This focuses on one major thing, which is quality control. • Page Layout – In big publications, there is a special team responsible for page layouts called the layout staff. Proofreading – Once the above stage has been completed, the next stage is the proofreading. File emailed to printer – After the proofreading stage, the desktop publishing file of the entire magazine is sent to the printer whose job will be to print the magazine. Distribution – The printing company, having finished with the printing of the magazines, will package them neatly and send them to a warehouse. PRODUCTION PROCESS http://hosbeg.com/the-magazine-production-process/
  • 17. PROOF OF DISTRIBUTION EMAIL I have forwarded my last message I sent to Bauer advertising company as I didn’t get a response. So therefore I sent another email to find out the production process so that I knew how to produce my magazine like there's as they are my inspiration.
  • 18. FORMAT AND STYLE The main image of both of these magazines is a current, well known female artist, which is iconic because anyone who is interested in this genre of music will know who they are. In this case they literally represent the music. The cover star also possesses ‘Star Appeal’ (theorist) as it is Cheryl Cole and female readers would look up to her because she’s a singer and would want to be like her. The colour schemes for both of these magazines are pinks and purples, linking back with the target audience of females. Front cover Freebees - Attract a reader to buy the magazine as stereotypical teen favourite goodies are advertised. House style- Bright primary colours create a pop vibe which stand out against each other as they are opposed. Crowed layout expresses how much interesting things the magazine includes. Bold basic fonts are easy to read and eye-catching.
  • 19. FORMAT AND STYLE The non-verbal code of the main image of the first contents page I have picked is of male pop star Olly Murs, he is an iconic image because again for this genre of music magazine, people will know who he is. Pop music Masthead analysis Uneven framing Medium angle shot makes the female audience feel like they’re right in front of a famous attractive celebrity. Medium close up shot shows a very short distance between the celebrity and the audience. There is selective focus within the frame which gives the audience a choice of what to buy, view or enjoy. Puff promotion - provides a small amount of interesting information about a certain article therefore persuades the reader to buy the magazine and read it. Barcode, price and issue date-informs the customer of vital information.
  • 20. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS Main image- The main image is a motivated image of Meghan Trainor. The pop artist is looking glamorous posing. Pull Quotes - Pull quotes interest the reader as they are quoted by Meghan Trainer and supports what is said in the article. Format - The format of the double page spread consists of a large main image of the artist features and text in columns on the right hand side of the empty space of the picture. Fancy font established by loads of colours to highlight it, house style colours are continued. Often inclusive language used again to involve the reader in the text. Stand First – It briefly summarizes what the page is about in a humorous way. Star appeal (Richard Dyer) – Megan Trainor is a pop singer who appeals to a male audience as she is attractive and also a female audience because she produces good music and is pretty and fashionable.
  • 21. The target audience is directed at females aged 13-16 years old (Hartley). This age range would stereotypically like music artists such as One direction, Cher Lloyd, Tulisa from N-Dubz and Rihanna as their type of music (R&B/Pop) appeal to a younger audience. Considering the price of the magazine is £2.99 this is a great price for the target audience as it is very affordable for this age group of 13-16 year olds. TARGET AUDIENCE http://www.welovepopmag.co.uk/search/Ri hanna
  • 22. TARGET AUDIENCE According to socio- economics needs graph the audience would fit in to the categories of D and E because the age is 13-16 year olds therefore they wont have that much income and so they will most likely be highlighted as students and unemployed. The price of the magazine is £2.99 which is also a good price for this age group as they will not have much money to spend. According to Katz the target audience would fit into the category ‘Diversion’. As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses by reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them’ on up to date music information and gossip. Also the target audience will be able to learn new songs and new artists from reading the magazine therefore they will be educated by this magazine. Maslow – According to Maslow the audience would be put in the category of “Social climbers”, “survivors” and “Explorers”. The audience are ‘social climbers’ as they like the though of status and having nice things, therefore they will like reading about celebrities who have this status and ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer). They would be survivors as they like the thought of knowing the magazine will be released monthly with new information about the music industry. Lastly, they would be explorers as they are driven by social change so reading this magazine they will be updated with new information. http://www.mediaweek.co.uk/article/1080493/egmont-launches-new-teen-magazine- we-love-pop
  • 23. TARGET AUDIENCE According to the Psychographics table the audience would fit into the categories of ‘Aspirer’ and ‘Explorer’. They would be aspirers because they care about their appearance and are quite materialistic. Therefore if they care about these things they will care about what is inside the magazine and the artists inside the magazine. • 28.  Date of publication – The first thing to do is to set up a date of publication.  Managing the schedule – This is a really important step that you should not take for granted when it comes to the production of a magazine .  Editorial and budgetary decision – The next step that is taken during the production process of a magazine is the editorial decision.  Content Acquisition – The most important step because without content we can’t have the magazine in the first place. Content therefore is the main piece.  Sub-editing – This focuses on one major thing, which is quality control. • Page Layout – In big publications, there is a special team responsible for page layouts called the layout staff.  Proofreading – Once the above stage has been completed, the next stage is the proofreading.  File emailed to printer – After the proofreading stage, the desktop publishing file of the entire magazine is sent to the printer whose job will be to print the magazine.  Distribution – The printing company, having finished with the printing of the magazines, will package them neatly and send them to a warehouse. • 30. PURPOSE AND MEANING Magazine masthead is just the letter Q, it is in upper case font which stands out and also the white colouring of the font is layered upon a prime red and this helps it stand out too. The headline Artic Monkeys is in upper case and contrasts against the simple background, also some of the other musicians are behind the lead singer. The colours used are typical of general rock magazines, with red, black and white being the main palette. However, blue is also used in places to provide a contrast with the red, and perhaps to give the magazine a possible ‘British’ feel. The masthead is barefaced but very simplistic. The font of the masthead is very simple and unique but shows effectiveness. The colours used are white and red which contrast against each other. The red is very eye- catching and will catch the readers’ eyes easily. The fact that the magazine is called’ Q’ shows simplistic and maturity which suggests that there is a older target audience. Barcode: The barcode states what issue the magazine and gives the website and price of the magazine. Cover lines: The cover lines are down the sides of the magazine and state what will be inside the magazine to give the reader an insight beforehand.

Price - £3.90 This is expensive for a magazine Which might show the people buying Them are working people. The target audience for Q magazine are the older generation such as people in their 30's and 40's. The background is in a field which seems really out of place for a music magazine. The colour of the field contrast against the red making a statement by using different ranges of bold colours. The length of the magazine is 8.25cm whiles the width is 11.2cm.
  • 32. DPS Strapline - The strapline is in red like the colour scheme. Main headline – Is the persons name who they are interviewing. So it makes it clear what the page is about. Main images - The main images convey that that’s who is in the interview and that’s who they are interviewing. The paragraph columns make the page look neater and well set out. Also it is easy it read. The artist who is the main feature is someone who is extremely well known in the music industry, the clothes are smart suggesting he might be a bit indie and might show it through his music as well. The Header of this double page spread is neat and organised also goes in with the picture because he looks smart.

  • 35. The target audience will be for young adults aged 16 -35+ because there are young singers in the magazine and young people are mostly interested in singers/bands their age. Also the target audience is people who are into music and love reading about it and listening to it.  According to Hartley my magazine would appeal to 16-35 year olds, female and male because of the eclectic genre meaning it has a range of genres therefore would appeal to a range of different audiences. Also according to socio- economics needs graph the audience would fit in to the categories of C1, C2, D and E. They would fit into the categories of C1 downwards because with the type of magazine this is, it swerves to the younger audience because of the content such as you can win things and the artists like Adele who are young. Furthermore the price of the magazine is £4.50 and this would more likely appeal to the C1 end and the 30 year olds of the scale because it is quite expensive. According to Katz the target audience would fit into the category ‘Diversion’. As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses by reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them’ ’ on up to date music information and gossip. Also the target audience will be able to learn new songs and new artists from reading the magazine therefore they will be educated by this magazine. Maslow – “Social climbers” and “survivors” – According to Maslow they like expensive things the target audience would fit into the category social climbers and they will like the celebrities and ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) inside the magazine . The survivors want to know and like the routine of the magazine being produced monthly with new information about the music industry. TARGET AUDIENCE
  • 36. They would be ‘explorers’ because they will be full of energy and will like difference. Therefore the different information that will be included in the magazine such as new music and gossip.

  • 44.  I chose these pictures for my mood board because they are singers and rappers that are in teenage magazines. This is important because the audience can personally identity (Katz) with my magazine and it would interest them by attracting them by the pictures.  For example, Ed Sheeran is a pop singer and teenagers mostly listen to pop music, like on Capital and Kiss FM. CONCLUSION TO MY MOOD BOARD
  • 46.  I have placed these images on my mood board because they are older singers/rappers and would be ideal for the older generation who listen to them.  The genre for Artic monkeys is indie rock, therefore I have chosen to put this in my mood board because I have a range of genres, like R&B, Rock and Bass. Generation of Ideas Colour Schemes Strapline Names Brand Identity ImagesFrequency of Release Target Audience Price £2.70 I chose this price because its cheap enough for students to buy it and also its monthly. The colour scheme would be red, black and grey because its like my magazine of inspiration which is Q. The colour red connotes energy and fire therefore it highlights my magazine is going to be full of new music information and will always keep you up to date. Furthermore, it is eye catching and stands out which is good for when it is distributed into shops. I chose black because it is bold and easy for the audience to read. 1. Get to know the world 2. A lot can happen in a month 3. Expand your mind, explore the world. 4. Live the interesting life. 5. No other gossip will do. My target audience would be teenagers aged 13-18. I'm choosing this age group because then relate to everything and so can they. It is directed towards boys and girls because then they aren’t restricted to reading and listening to the songs. I’d ensure there is synergy with my magazine through: Facebook •Twitter •Instagram •Internet •Adverts MIND MAP - JKZ On the front cover it will share information about interviews and what pages they are on to read about it. Also it will be the top 10 songs of the week; and to say whether they are ready to buy on iTunes yet. It will be released every month therefore there will be more pages than a weekly magazine so there will be more information. So there will be more gossip for everyone to be interested by. My magazine will compete with other monthly magazines such as Q and will have a similar release pattern.

In this interview they are talking about two artists and has pictures to show highlight who they are talking about.
  • 56.  I chose Fetty Wapp because all the teenage girls/boys listen to him and he is in the age category, target audience and genre of my magazine.  Fetty Wapp is the star producers appeal (Richard Dyer) because he’s always on Capital and Kiss FM which teenagers listen to mostly everyday, so they know who he is.  I also chose Fetty because he’s an easy person to interview and he’s laid back person to talk to, and also is down with all the trends so my target audience would relate to him a lot. DRAFT INTERVIEW
  • 57.  Fetty takes time out from making his third album to speak to us JKZ about life inside and outside of the music world.  Hello Fetty, glad I’m finally getting to interview you, how are you and what have you been doing this week?  Hi Jess, I am great thanks, hope all you lot are good at JKZ. This week has been so busy man considering I am in the process of making my third album, which is going to be seriously good, watch out, and listen out!  Glad to hear it, we are so excited to hear your new album. What is your album going to be called?  I can’t actually tell you that right now, it is a secret (laughs). But trust me it will be big as after the third album I am going to take some time out of writing music and have some chill time.  You can tease us like that Fetty. So outside of work considering you are going to be taking some time out. What kind of music do you listen to? Do you listen to your own music?  (Sarcastic/laughing) Bit of classical actually. I joke, I joke. I love my music and I do love listening to it but obviously I listen to it everyday so it can get a bit repetitive. At the moment I am such a Bieber fan. Did you watch him at the Brits? He was serious class. Oh and Rihanna and Drake with their song “Work”, loved it! That type of music is more up my street!  Yeah we watched the Brits here at JKZ and you are right Bieber, Drake and Rihanna was excellent. So what’s your life style out of work? What are your hobbies?  I do love a good party with my mates usually at the weekend though as I’m busy writing my music on the weekdays. I don’t really have any hobbies to be honest, my life is all about music but I am always attending music festivals and gigs especially in London. I went and saw ‘Rocky N.T.I’ at a gig a couple of days ago actually. DRAFT INTERVIEW TO FETTY WAPP
  • 58.  What are your favourite festivals to go to then Fetty?  Oh I do love a festival! I go to loads, mainly in the summer – if I’m not playing in them. I went to ‘We Are Fest’ last summer in July it was proper good, definitely my fav fest. I am going to be playing at ‘V Fest’ this year, which I am also proper, excited about.  We are so excited to see you at V Fest here at JKZ. How old were you when you knew you wanted to produce music?  I was 15 when I knew I wanted to be about music. My dad was into music and would always play it around me. So that helped me get into music and know about it more and know about the instruments. I started rapping at school with a group of friends as a joke and then they all told me I was good and should take it further.  What advice would you give to your fans if they wanted to become like you?  Be yourself and keep producing and never give up. The industry is really hard to get into so you have to make your way up, because it’s all worth it when you put all the hard work in and it gets easier.  You have lots of fans so that is some great advice. Who are your main fans out there? What age group?  I love my fans and I thank every single one of them, I would not be anywhere without them so I am really greatful for all their love and support and mainly for buying my albums. I would say my main fans are the ages of 16 -25 year olds especially the younger ones because of my rapping and the words I use in my songs can be said as quite street.  Has it been a rough road for you then?  Yea it has been a rough road. My parent’s spilt up when I was 15. I mostly lived with my dad when it happened because my mum was in and out of hospital because she had depression, because of that I focused more on music as it made me feel better about the situation.  Sorry to hear that Fetty, although its good to see your life back on track! Thank you for taking the time to speak to us about your life outside the music industry hopefully you’ll come back and speak to us soon. DRAFT INTERVIEW TO FETTY WAPP CONTINUED
  • 59. JKZ FIRST ANALYSE HAND DRAWN DRAFTS FRONT COVER I have put the strapline next to the front heading because it will be the second thing people see and then want them to read it even more. The main image is put in the middle so people will know what the magazine holds inside. Barcode is there to show when the magazine comes out and how much it is. The main image is in the middle because in my magazine of inspiration the main image is in the middle of the page. Strapline – My strapline is “A lot can change in a month” I put the strapline here so then the reader will see it once they see my logo. This is relevant because when they read my strapline they will associate with the brand of my magazine. Cover lines – As the main story is at the bottom I have decided to put the cover lines above it to make them stand out to the reader. Cover lines are stories which are In the magazine. House style – My house style colours are red, white and black. I choose these colours because they all go together and suit the age range of my magazine and genre of it. Barcode – On my barcode I will have the issue date and price inside the barcode. The issue will be number 1 because it will be a brand new magazine. I will place the barcode above the main story just like in my magazine of inspiration Q Puff promotion – Puff promotion allows the audience to win something. In my magazine thy are able to win iTunes festival tickets. Having a puff promotion is god because the audience are more like to buy the magazine if they want to win something. Masthead – the masthead is the title of the magazine which is JKZ. My magazine will be called JKZ because as the meaning of it is supposed to be ‘jokes’ it could illustrate the genre is entertaining and will be full of juicy gossip about the music industry and the audience will not get bored of the music and the information inside. The background will be red and the writing will be white.
  • 60. ‘Interview heading’ has been placed there to reveal what kind of page it is. The image is in the middle to show who they are interviewing instead of reading it and finding out you didn’t want to know about it. Also has loads of bits of information doted around the page and not bundled together, it is spaced out. I have put a large image in the middle to show who the reader is about straight away. The information is scattered around the page but also in columns to still make it neat and tidy on the page. JKZ FIRST ANALYSE HAND DRAWN DRAFTS DPS Pull quote from interview - I have put the pull quote on my page because it fills up empty space on the page and also when the reader sees it they will want to read on and find out what happens. Main image – I put the main image in the middle to make it stand out also to illustrate to the readers who's the main artist is. Main story title – compared to my other ideas for the main title, I wanted to make it diagonal to make it unique to the reader. Stand first – The stand first is very important because it’s the first thing people see as the topic. The text is also eye-catching for the reader so they will see it first.
  • 61. HA ANALYSE HAND DRAWN DRAFTS FRONT COVER I used this layout because its not the same as Q magazine and I wanted it to be a bit different. The ‘headline quote’ is next to the picture so they look at the picture and then see the headline after. The barcode and price has been put at the left hand side at the bottom to not make it stand out as much as the other bits on the page. Also it is there to show the price and the date it is released.
  • 62. HA ANALYSE HAND DRAWN DRAFTS DPS On this page there are a lot of images around and bits of information to show what the reader is reading about and not getting bored. The ‘Headline quote’ is placed in a star to make it stand out to the reader. I have placed the Puff promotion in a star to make it stand out and noticeable. Interview headline is at the top of the page to make it clear what the page is about and what type of page it is.

As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses by reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them.’ M aslow – “social climbers” and “survivors” as they like nice things and ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer). Survivors because they like routine and the thought of knowing “JKZ” will be released monthly with new information (social climbers). • 66. The house and style of my magazine will be modern and the colours will be mainly red, red connotes the colour of fire, so it is associated with energy , danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Also black will be in my magazine and the colour connotes power, elegance, formality, and mystery. but will be putting some dark green as well around the magazine. Also the backgrounds will be light grey on all the pages. I choose these colours because they all go together and suit the age range of my magazine and genre of it. I will be ‘repeating’ (Steve Neale - 1980) my masthead throughout my Magazine as well as my house colours, this keeps it consistent so people will notice it more. HOUSE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE - JKZ
  • 67. HOUSE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE - HA I used these colours for my second magazine because they are similar to the ‘We Love Pop’ and Q magazine I analyzed. That shows I have used my magazine of inspiration for this magazine. Colour Scheme will be Dark red, blue and black. I chose the colour blue because today, blue is embraced as the color of heaven and authority, therefore the connation's of blue connote the magazine will be superior in the market. The colour dark red represents power and strength. I have used this colour for my magazine to suggest that the magazine is a powerful magazine and will attract the target audience. I have also chosen the colour black to show mystery and the unknown this will make the audience intrigued and wanting to read more.
  • 68.  In LO2 I have been researching more about what I will be putting into my magazine and deciding who will be in it and also how it will look on the front cover, where I will put the logo and headings and cover lines.  Also I looked into the mind map and what ideas I can put on my magazine e.g. cover head, puff promotion, what I will call my magazine and the barcode etc.  I also looked into a mood board for ideas of whom I would put in my magazine.  Overall it was easier to design everything this way to help me know and find out what I wanted my magazine to be like and what style of magazine I wanted.  The conclusion for all this is the analyzing of the magazines and then being able to make your own front cover by drawing drafts of it so you can change what you’ve done wrong to improve. • 71. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE This graph illustrates they’re more female than males who filled out this questionnaire and what type of demographic is the magazine designed for or who is attracts.
  • 72. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE This question reveals that there are more old teenagers who filled this out than older adults. This could mean that the target audience is for teenagers and young adults.
  • 73. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE This question has a variety of answers to it so the genre could be anything which that reader likes. This helps me with making my magazine because then I can relate the magazine to everyone.
  • 74. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE On this question it highlights how often people buy a magazine and most of the people who answered it said every month or never. This can help me decide whether to produce my magazine monthly or weekly and looking at the results I need to make it every month so it suits what people want more.
  • 75. MAGZINE QUESTIONAIRE In my survey monkey questionnaire and it shows how much people would spend on a magazine. Most people said £1-2 which would more be for an older magazine. And the more expensive magazine like the £3-4 would be for a kids magazines because they would have toys in them so would be more expensive.
  • 76. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE On this question on my questionnaire I'm analyzing why you would buy a magazine. Most people said for the gossip and some people said general information and pictures. This helps me with making my magazine so I know what to put on my magazine so everyone will enjoy reading it.
  • 77. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE This question on my questionnaire is asking if you’d buy a magazine for the gift. Most people said ‘yes’ this can reveal they are not buying the magazine for the information therefore they might be putting it in the bin and just having the toy. The rest of them said ‘no’ which means they would want to buy the magazine for the information inside the magazine and not just the toy. This also helps me with my magazine by deciding whether to have a gift in the magazine or not.
  • 78. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE This question on my questionnaire is asking if you would subscribe to a magazine? Most people said ‘no’ this conveys how a magazine subscription service may not be as popular as buying it in the store.
  • 79. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE I gained feedback when I asked people what their favorite artistes were, the reason for doing this is to know what type of artists and genre of music I would include and will help me with making my magazine.
  • 80. MAGAZINE QUESTIONAIRE This question on my survey monkey connotes why would you buy the magazine? And most people said for the gossip and for the pictures this conveys due the my young target audience they would prefer more gossip and images, so when creating my magazine I know not to put loads of content inside it.
  • 81. Format: I am going to create a magazine in the genre of pop. Working Title: My working title is JKZ although it might change because I don’t know whether to keep the smaller bit of the title straight under each letters of JKZ or just place it underneath. The music magazine is very simple and easy to read because the font is red and white background and is very easy to read. The title of the magazine JKZ will be placed at the top Left hand corner. The colours that the title will be presented in are black, red , white and some bits of dark green. Genre: My genre will be targeted at 15-25 year olds because it will be for teenagers and young adults who enjoy pop music, R&B and Hip, Hop music. Content: ‘JKZ’ magazine will be full of pictures, articles, album reviews, gig reports and song lyrics. The publication will also feature bands that are generally quite small and not mainstream. Most will be signed to small record labels or perhaps not signed at all.
  • 82. Style or Approach: The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be red, black, grey and dark green. The colour red was chosen from Q magazine because it’s my magazine of inspiration. The colour Dark green connotes that it’s a different colour and stands out and also suits the target audience. I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because it’s an easy way to sort and make everything up clearly. Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing the front cover will be the text tools because then I can add my text it easily. Audience: PRICE; £2.70 The audience are male and female. They are 15-25 in general although some might be older and a few younger. Music is a big part of their life and they will base most of their activities and their style around this music. Length: What will the size of the magazine be (A3, A4) and why I intend to make 16 pages including the front and back cover. It will be A4 in size.
  • 83. Format - my genre of my “HA” magazine is pop. It will be obvious that it is pop because it will have pop articles on the front cover. Working title – My verbal code “HA” means my magazine will have some jokes inside of it to keep people entertained and focused on the magazine. Genre - My magazine is a pop magazine. My magazine of inspiration is “We heart Pop”. Which is also a pop magazine, as you can tell with the title. I chose this magazine because it has the detail and frame that I liked and wanted on my magazine and I have changed it around as well. Content – My magazine will be full of images and games for the young teens to play and not get bored with it and a waste of money. My magazine will also be supplying a toy in the front of the magazine so more teens will buy it more and then make more of a profit by it. Style or Approach - My magazine won’t be the same text all the way through. There will be some pages which will be out going and bright to catch peoples eyes more. Audience – My target audience will be girls 11- 17 Length - My magazine will be 62 pages long and some pages will be A4 like posters will fold out to be bigger so the young girls can put them in their rooms. Frequency - My magazine will be £2.70, and it will be a monthly magazine.
  • 84.  In my proposal I talk about my target audience and how much my magazine will be also I talk about the colour scheme and house style. I made a proposal before I started making my magazine so I have ideas for my front cover and double page spread. CONCLUSION TO MY PROPOSALS
  • 85. Strapline – My strapline is “….” I put the strapline here so then the reader will see it once they see my logo.
  • 86. Main image – I put the main image in the middle to make it stand out also to show the readers who's the main artist is. Main story title – compared to my other ideas for the main title, I wanted to make it diagonal to make it unique to the reader. Stand first – The stand first is very important because it’s the first thing people see as the topic. The text is also eye-catching for the reader so they will see it first.
  • 89. GRAPHIC LAYOUT FRONT COVER - JKZ Image of Artist JKZ strapline Headline quote Main headline Cover lines Barcode & price & date I have made a Graphic layout of my magazine to see if everything would fit on the page and makes it easier for me to see what needs changing and what doesn’t need moving around on the Page.

  • 91. FRONT COVER IDEA - HA I have made a Graphic layout Of my magazine to see if everything would fit on the page and makes it easier for me to see what needs changing and what doesn't’t need moving around on the Page. I have also found it easier with this graphic layout because if I don’t like something I can easily change it inside of rubbing it out or starting again on paper.

  • 96. I will be keeping my masthead throughout my Magazine as well as my house colours, this keeps it consistent so people will notice it more. HOUSE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE - JKZ
  • 97. SECOND HOUSE STYLE OF THE MAGAZINE - HA I used these colours for my second magazine because they are similar to the ‘We Love Pop’ and Q magazine I analyzed.
  • 98. TEST PHOTOGRAPHY – FRONT COVER & DPS These are all the Test pictures I took of Izzy and Will. Also all the different ones with Izzy’s facial expression, her clothes are up to date in fashion it could also inspire people to dress like her. Once I tested Izzy I decided I wanted to use Wills pictures because they related to my interview which was on Fetty Wapp which is a boy and would fit the stereotype of the genre.
  • 101. My t a r g e t a u d i e n ce The target audience will be for young adults aged 1 6 - 3 5 + because they’re more young singers in the magazine and young people are mostly interested in singers/bands their age. Also the target audience is people who are into music and love reading about it and listening to it.  According to Hartley my magazine would appeal to 16 -35 year olds, female and male because he looked at gender and age. Also According to s o c i o - e c o n om i c s needs graph the audience would fit in to the categories of C 1 , C 2 , D a n d E because the age is 16 -35 ye ar olds therefore they wont have that much income and so they will be highligh ted as students and unemployed. According to K a t z the target audience would fit into the category ‘Diversi on’ . As they are able to escape from everyday life stresses by reading magazine that will ‘inform and educate them.’ Ma s l o w – “social climbe rs” and “survivo rs ” as they like nice things and ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer). Survi vo rs because they like routine and the thought of knowing “JKZ” will be released monthly with new informa t io n (social climbers ). p sychographics - the study and classification of people according to their attitudes, aspirations, and other psychological criteria, especially in market research. Q ’ s t a r g e t a u d i e n ce Qs magazine is aged at adults ages 30+  Would be based on the B and C2 demograph ics. Hartley’s 7 Subject i v i t ies this chart illust ra tes that the percentage demographic of readers are male aged 20-50 years old . The theory Katz places more focus on the consumer, or audience .  MY TARGET AUDIENCE
  • 102.  This magazine would have to have something special about it which attracts the reader more because it’s a competitive business to get into with magazines and more people will be against you for doing the same genre as you.  To be ahead of the magazine market is to have a unique ideas and a suitable magazine for your genre.  Although by gaining a higher readership than the competitors is by having a low price for your magazine so people would by the cheapest one but still have good context inside and the same as a expensive magazine. MAGAZINE MARKET PLACE
  • 103.  My magazine will cost £2.99 because all teenagers in the age range will be able to afford it with their pocket money.  Also it’s the same price as the Q magazine which makes it more real.  Hartley's 7 subjectivities and how age, gender, class, self image , nationality, family and ethnicity should be considered when looking at spending power. • 104.  Firstly, I created a my front cover by using a template which was called the international option.  Then I used paint bucket and had a grey background but then thought that was boring so I used the gradient tool and made it fade out a bit to make it more interesting.  Next I inserted my logo for ‘JKZ’ onto my front cover and edited it with the drop down shadow by using blending options.  Then I added the text ‘Fetty Wapp’ by using the text tool to add the text in. Then I used the blending options and made the text bolder and clearer.  Next I added the picture of Will onto a separate document and used the quick selection tool and deleted the background of it so its just will, secondly I used the ‘blending options’ and edited around the edges of him to make them smoother. STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY FRONT COVER
  • 105.  I then selected the photo of Will and dragged it onto my front cover template and resized it to the size I wanted.  Next I changed the colour of the ‘Fetty Wapp’ to a light grey colour because I couldn't’t see it with the bottom of the picture also being a dark colour and wanted it to stand out more.  I then added the puf f promotion onto my front cover; I made a small red circle using the shape tool and then used the paint bucket the make it red. Then I wanted it to stand out more so I used the blending options and made it have a little shadow on it. Then I added some text on it and advertised a festival in it too.  Af ter that, I made a barcode; by doing this I had to use the public drive videos and I got a barcode and inserted it onto my magazine, then I put the details of when my magazine is released (monthly).  Next I added some icons above it like Facebook & Twitter to show where you can promote it more. Also I put a Hash tag so people can Hash tag the magazine more and get more people involved with knowing about it. STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY FRONT COVER
  • 106.  Lastly, I Added who is featured in my magazine. By doing this I used the Text tool and made some lines to out underneath as it’s the same in my magazine of inspiration. STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY FRONT COVER
  • 107.  Firstly, I opened my DPS template up and changed the background to white using the paint bucket tool. Then I added my ‘JKZ’ logo by going to insert and added my JKZ logo as a picture.  Then I made two separate pictures and added two versions of will to go at the top. I used the quick selection tool and deleted the background and then used ‘filters’ to make an effect on will and I chose the cartoon one. Then I made them face each other and made it into one photo.  After that I added in my interview with Fetty wapp. And made columns for the writing to go, also for it to look smart and organized.  Next I made page numbers to go at the bottom of the page. I used the text tool and made little numbers and moved them where I wanted then I also put my logo JKZ next to it as it’s the same in my magazine of inspiration.  I then added a heading using the Text I found on Da font and downloaded it to my text tool and used it. I had to made it big enough to fill half a page and stand out a lot. STEP BY STEP TO MAKE MY DPS

  • 113. MAGAZINE FINAL FRONT COVER My magazine will be called JKZ because as the meaning of it is supposed to be ‘jokes’ it could illustrate the genre is entertaining and will be full of juicy gossip about the music industry and the audience will not get bored of the music and the information inside. The font style is ‘Myriad Pro’ with the font colour being white with a red background similar to Q. The competition in the market will be with Q, NME, XXL and Kerrang! because they are magazine of a similar genre. I am going to change a couple colours on my magazine from my ‘Q’ inspiration magazine and I am going to repeat the interview on another page of my magazine. My colour scheme is Red, Black and Grey Masthead – Is he same deign as Q’s masthead. Cover lines- I put my cover lines in the same place as Q’s so both magazines are similar. Barcode - I placed the barcode in the same place as Q’s magazine, which I am keeping the same. The main image – the main image Is in the same place as the one on Q’s magazine.
  • 114. MAGAZINE FINAL DPS On the double page spread the star appeal (Richard Dyer) is Fetty Wapp. He is appealing because he fits with the eclectic genre of my magazine. There is a whole interview of him inside the life of the music industry and outside. I have used the same colour such as red and black similar to the front cover to keep up with the brand identity.
  • 115. MAGAZINE FRONT COVER SECOND IDEA My magazine will be called HA because it stands for ‘High Audio’ as it relates to music and the word ‘Audio’ connotes straight away to the audience that the magazine will provide you with music information. The word ‘High’ connotes the information will be top quality and up to date. I chose the colour blue because today, blue is embraced as the color of heaven and authority, therefore the connation's of blue connote the magazine will be superior in the market, alongside other competitors such as Q, NME & XXL.
  • 116. MAGAZINE DPS SECOND IDEA On the double page spread the star appeal (Richard Dyer) is Fetty Wapp. He is appealing because he fits with the eclectic genre of my magazine. I have used the same colour blue as on my front cover to keep up with the brand identity.
  • 117.  In conclusion my magazine JKZ will feature Fetty Wapp on the front cover and double page spread. I have made a few changes compared to my plans as I feel the changes I have made make my front cover and DPS look more professional now I have finished I will be pitching my idea of JKZ and HA. Also it has a laser on the end of it so I pointed out what was important in my presentation.
  • 120. EVIDENCE OF PITCH AND WITNESS STATEMENT This screen shot illustrates me presenting my pitch to everyone. Based on verbal feedback from everyone it helped me correct my mistakes throughout my magazine. Once I completed my pitch I was given a witness statement from the head publisher which helped me also improve on my pitch. A negative on the feedback that I got was that I needed to add more detail to the slides I had done. By having this as written feedback it means I can go back and check if I have done everything correctly and not miss anything out.
