An EFL lesson about the current events in Palestine. It is intended to be for intermediate students who wish to increase their listening skills through a short lesson in power point.
2. This shoot took place at Bede Campus. Here, I was preparing
the camera making sure it was in focus and checking whether it
was either zoomed in or out to be ready for the scene which
was in the middle of the short film to be shot. As shown in the
picture, I used only a Canon camera and a tripod as we used
the natural lighting and there was non-diegetic sound being
used therefore there was no use for a microphone. To get the
correct clip, we had to take multiple shots as people kept on
walking up and down the stairs, we needed to get the focus in
shot so the key actor and mise-en-scene was clear. As well as
this, we also tried using handheld shots to make it look as
though it was someones point of view but instead we used the
stationary tripod shot to help with the focusing of the shot and
to keep it stable and smooth. Having a thorough pre-production
helped us when filming as we were able to film multiple scenes
which were located in the same room/building from having a
storyboard to look at. In addition to this, we were also well
aware of what we were filming exactly and if anything needed
to be reshot.
3. This image and scene was shot at Bede Campus. The scene is
also shown in the middle of the film. The equipment that we
used in this scene was a Canon camera. We decided to use a
handheld shot as we were filming an over-the-shoulder shot
focusing it on the phone ringing. For this scene we had to take
multiple shots to get the right one as the phone calls were
delayed due to the bad signal of where we were, we forgot to
change my caller ID on Lexi’s phone and we also filmed the
scene in different locations but the shots were not quality
standard and were either blurry or the natural lighting caused
reflections on the phone screen and the audience were unable
to see who was calling and this part was a key part of the film.
We resolved this issue by sitting on the stairs so that the wall
blocked any reflections and used a close up, over the shoulder
shot so that the audience can see exactly what the main actor
was doing on her phone and the unknown phone call which
appeared on her phone. When filming this scene, Annalise rang
Lexi’s phone using mine whilst I was recording Lexi’s phone
over her shoulder. As a result of this scene, it could show that
the pre-production wasn’t thorough due to this scene not being
in the storyboard and added in last minute but it however played
a big part of the film as it is linked in with the villain / enigma.
4. In addition to the previous slide, this picture shows myself
looking through the clip i had just filmed to see if there was any
problems i.e. not being in focus, camera exposure being
incorrect, whether it was too zoomed in and most importantly,
whether I filmed the key parts of the scene for the audience to
clearly see and interpret. In addition to this, Annalise kept on
ringing Lexi’s phone to test the signal connection incase it
lowered whilst we were looking over clips which would cause a
problem if we needed to reshoot the clip. We saw this as being
efficient and effective which saved us time filming and allowed
us more time to shoot other clips.
Watching over the clips, I saw that
Lexi struggled to keep serious and
kept laughing in the next scene
where we filme an extreme close
up shot of her on the phone
therefore we had to reshoot and
check the clips closely to see if
there was any changes in facial
expressions which was important
to the film as she had to stay
serious and also confused of who
was ringing her phone.
5. Filmed at Bede Campus. In this image, I was shooting the
scene before the unknown caller scene which leads on after
this one. In this scene, I am filming an over-the shoulder mid
shot of Lexi’s phone as she was aimlessly scrolling through
her Spotify playlist waiting for the unexpected call.To film this
scene, I used a Canon camera free-handly. The scene was
non-dialogue as there was going to be a soundtrack playing
over the scenes making it non-diegetic therefore we didn’t
need our script. As shown on the picture we were sat to the
right of the stairs so that people could back and forth and we
could easier and quickly move over out of the way. This
became a problem for us as it lead to the scene needing to be
refilmed multiple times as we were kept getting disturbed and it
took a while to get the camera focus correctly on the phone
leading onto the correct exposure. This shot was a stationary
shot therefore there was no movement and the only movement
in the scene was off the phone screen which made it easier to
film as it meant that we didn’t need to try and track the phone
and keep the camera focused at the same time as Lexi moves.
6. The location of this image is at Bede Campus. After having a team
meeting over what scenes we were going to film, we decided on one of the
scenes being the bathroom scene which is seen within the middle of the
film. In this image, Lexi is sat reading through what she needs to do in the
scene with the notes on her phone as we were setting the equipment up.
The equipment we used for this scene was a tripod and Canon camera.
For the lighting, we decided to just use the bathroom lights as they were
bright and provided quality lighting for the scene. We had to refilm this
scene multiple times due to Lexi struggling to stay in character and after
trying to film on the tripod, we decided to just film the scene free hand so
that we were able to move the camera quickly and follow the basket which
she flings across the room. We decided to do this as we thought that it
would add more suspense into the film and the viewer is able to feel and
see the characters anger which she built up. To film in this location, we
had to make sure that no one came into the toilets which would’ve caused
disturbance to filming and it meant that we would’ve needed to refilm the
scene again. Furthermore, it also took up valuable time as we had to wait
for people to come out of the toilets. To prevent any disturbance, we
needed to create a sign to let people know that there was recording taking
place in the toilets. We added in the part where Lexi throws the basket out
of anger in the scene as it was just supposed to be her looking in the
mirror and slamming her hands down onto the surface. We did this as it
was more action in the film and it added more to her character and the
audience can feel her emotions.
7. LOCATION: Sunderland College / Bede
Campus.
Our planned beginning scene of the film was
located in this room but due to the current
government rules surrounding Covid-19, we
were unable to go out and reshoot clips which
we needed in the film so I needed to switch the
storyboard around and edit it differently. We
overcome a few problems whilst filming in this
room as we visited the room multiple times and
each time there was a class taking place so we
had to wait and come back. When we were
finally able to film, people were sat in the room
and a class was about to take place within the
15-20 minutes so it resulted in us quickly
filming the scenes on a Canon camera and
tripod so that it gave us time to get the
resources back up on the board for the lesson
and not disturbing anyone. The scenes that we
filmed in the Next Gen room was of Me,
Annalise and Lexi watching Shrek and the
other scene was of Lexi storming out of the
8. I took this image as I was sat on the Metro travelling to the City Centre to
meet up with cast members who were coming out to film further shots at
Roker. Once we had met up, we then went for the bus over to Seaburn
and then walk to Roker Park to film. To note down travel and food
expenses, we wrote them down on an online budget list which was part of
the pre-production of the film. By doing this we were able to track exactly
what we have spent money on and how much. Whilst travelling, we also
had to carry the filming equipment with us which included a tripod, dolly
and Canon camera. To make it easier to carry, we shared the equipment
out so everyone was carrying at least something rather than struggling
with carry all of it.
9. Location: Roker Park, Sunderland
At this location, we filmed multiple
clips such as longshots of me and
Annalise walking away, mid-shots of
Travis being the villain watching us
closely, close ups of Travis cracking
his fingers and extreme close ups of
leaves softly blowing which can
maybes foreshadow that something
bad is going to happen in the film. To
film these shots, we used a tripod,
dolly and Canon camera. We
followed the storyboard thoroughly
as we found an area which was full
of greenery (trees, leaves, bushes)
which was idea for the film as it hid
the villain in scenes and added
suspense which is perfect for the
genre and it made the audience
wonder what exactly was going to
happen to the two girls in the quiet
area.
