The first clip above is the outcome of the preliminary task that we created
as a group called ‘Phone thief'.
After the preliminary task our individual attitudes towards filmmaking had
changed considerably; we had all gained a deeper understanding towards
editing, sound and lighting. This is clear because of the differences between
                                 the two clips.
The two screen grabs above are from the preliminary task. The images show a
high angle shot and a extreme close up. This show we used a variety of different
camera angles throughout the sequence. However, the lighting in this shot isn’t
very good. This is something we defiantly needed to improve for our opening
sequence. We used a few sound effects within the clip that were supposed to be
diagetic sounds. These effects were noisy children in the background, the
knocking on the door and the creaking when the door opened. However I think
that we used these in the right way in order to disguise the fact that they were non-
diagetic.
These screen grabs show a conversation between Hannah and Liberty. They show
that throughout our preliminary sequence we broke the 180 degree rule and crossed
the line. Although we broke this rule it is still clear that they are talking and looking
at each other. The main problem that breaking this rule caused was the fact that the
audience saw another part of the room that they never saw before. The position of
the camera also caused the lighting to change in each of the shots, this was a main
problem throughout the entire sequence and it was defiantly something that we
would watch out for.
These shots show the clip where Liberty drops the phone. We used the Eyeline
match edit to show what she is looking at when it drops. After re-watching the
sequence we noticed that the framing of the phone isn’t very good as there are other
items in the shot and a part of the phone is cut out.
The second clip our final sequence called ‘Red.’
After filming the ‘Phone thief’ we went through the stages of researching and
planning towards our final sequence. Doing this this helped us to gain a deeper
knowledge and understanding which aided us even further.
Above are two screen shots from our opening sequence. We learnt a lot more about
editing and sounds from our research and planning. Therefore we were able to
create a shot that looked like a news broadcast. This was very beneficial to us as it
enabled up to set the mood for the rest of the sequence.
The screen grabs above show the scene where Red is getting ready. We used a
variety of different shots and the lighting was consistent throughout, unlike the
preliminary task. The mise-en-scene within the first shot relates to Red’s character.
We were able to experiment with iMovie and put titles onto the clip.
