HIV and AIDS can have significant impacts on reproductive health. It can increase the risks of maternal and child morbidity and mortality. Pregnancy can also adversely affect the course of HIV by causing declines in CD4 counts during pregnancy. Stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS discourages women from accessing important antenatal care services and prevention of mother-to-child transmission interventions that could reduce transmission risks.
