Swot Analysis Chipotle Mexican Grill
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG)
1INDUSTRY
Chipotle is a part of a large industry of restaurants. Of these restaurants, Chipotle best fits in the
fast casual Mexican segment. In this market, Chipotles main competitors are Taco Bell, Del Taco,
Qdoba Mexican Grill, and Moe s Southwest Grill. Several of their competitors compete by offering
menu items that are explicitly branded as lower in carbohydrates, fat, and calories. Some may claim
that their products are improved for customers, or they would target their market at particularly
dietary preferences. Quite a few may put emphasis on lesser cost or even value meal options +(http:

Civil War Reconstruction Research Paper
I bet you know about the Civil War but, what about the Reconstruction time period? The
Reconstruction time period was another important part of the Civil War. The reconstruction was the
time period after the Civil War. The Civil War was the war against the north and the south over
slavery and many other different ways of life. The Civil War pretty much smoothed out the
significant differences between the north and south but, that did not mean that the north and south
got along well. The reconstruction started in 1865 and ended in 1877. The Reconstruction time
period left a gigantic impact on northern and southern americans.
During the reconstruction time period the south did not get along very well with the north. The
southerners needed help rebuilding their land. In the Ducksters article it mentioned, Much of the
southern United States were destroyed during the Civil War. Because of this, the north felt that
they should help them rebuild their land. They felt this way because they had just won the war so
they wanted to make it equal. Another reason is they were part of the same country now so they
kind of had to. Those are some facts about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The north was trying to help the south fix their land because they were together now. Also, there
were northerners who tried to make money by rebuilding the south (crops, schools and houses).
These people were called carpetbaggers. They were called carpetbaggers because all they brought
with them to the south was a cheap bag made out of carpets. Carpetbaggers were people who came
down to the south even though the south didn t want their help. The south didn t want the north to
help them because they were going to try to make money while helping them. Though not all
northerners tried to make money off of helping the south. The north helped the south move very far

The Dream Of A Detroit Man Named Berry Gordy
Every year, tens of thousands of people come to Detroit, Michigan with hopes of getting a glimpse
of Hitsville U.S.A. Since 1985, the recording studio that once produced and made the dreams of
many famous singers a reality has been a popular tourist attraction, known as Motown Museum.
Motown Museum is open five days a week to local and international visitors. Visitors are given a
tour through Studio A, where they can stand in the same room in which their favorite Motownartist
stood. Additionally, visitors also tour the newly renovated upper flat that Berry Gordy and his
family lived in during the early part of the company s years. This beautiful place that appears to be
frozen in time and conveniently located in the exact same spot where it all began, started from the
dream of a Detroitman named Berry Gordy.
During the 1950s African Americans were plagued by discrimination and injustice. For example,
Sugrue (1996) states, housing was a well sought after necessity by new migrants, rapidly growing
postwar families, returning veterans, and people displaced by urban redevelopment and highway
projects.(p. 52) Essentially, all of these people were typically the ones who had limited if not
income at all. Additionally, once the housing market slowly began to open in the mid 50s,
advertising for available units discriminated against minorities by specifying the want for white
tenants only . (Origins, p. 53) However, through all of the discrimination and injustices, Motown

Religious Experience Research Paper
The term religious experience can come up with a wide range and diverse series of images. We
might assume that it can include anything from a prayer, to attending a service at a place of
worship, to even hearing the voice of God . The argument for the existence of God based on
religious experience is in fact a posteriori as it is based on people s encounters with God. Unlike
other arguments, the argument is based on a direct link to God if we are able to show that God
is experienced then we therefore cannot deny his existence. Many people are more likely to
believe something if it has been experienced. Our experience of God is the best evidence we have
that God exists.
There are many definitions of religious experience which include one from Rudolph Otto who
stated the term numinous for the feeling of the presence of a greater being, which is with you but
yet somehow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This feeling is termed mysterium tremendum et fascinans , whereby there is a fear of the
fascinating. Other than this the psychologist William James does also study a lot of religious
experiences, and in his lectures entitled On the Varieties of Religious Experience he clearly
outlines four key characteristics which go on to define a religious experience. First there s a sense
of noetic quality, which means that by virtue of the experience the subject becomes aware of some
revelation. Also Religious experiences tend to be transient, so that whilst the experience may have
a profound effect upon the subject, it lasts a relatively short period of time, and often the details are
forgotten afterwards. The experiences are usually ineffable, so this makes it particularly

Summary Of The Hurt Locker By Brian Turner
Opening the Hurt Locker In the poem The Hurt Locker the author Brian Turner, an Iraq war
veteran, describes war how he views war after taking an active role in it. Several members of our
class suggest that the final message of the Hurt Locker is duty versus morality. I agree to a certain
extent, but I think there is a much bigger conflict with the author and the outside world. The author
urges the reader to see warfor what it really is. In his poem Turner says, Believe it when you see it
(2005). To me, this line is like an invitation to the readers to experience what war is like first
hand. He wants people to see that there is much more to war than what people see on television
or read in the paper. He also uses very descriptive language to describe some of the events that
happened during this particular war. One example is when Turner says, Believe it when a
twelve year old boy rolls a grenade into a room (2005). There is a certain shock value to this line
that is meant to play on the reader s emotions. The author specifically uses the word rolls in this
line which is striking because that s a word that is usually associated with play, like when you say
to a child, Roll the ball to me. Generally speaking, when thinking... Show more content on

This is the line where I think the author s main message comes across the most clear. The author
never tells us what the hurt locker is. The meaning of the hurt locker can be interpreted many
different ways, but I think the hurt locker is like another part of the war that the outside world
does not see. While watching the news or reading the newspaper, people do not learn about the
things that Turner describes in his poem and I think that was the author s motivation behind writing
this poem. I think the author wants us to not only learn about what the war is really like, but to
also ask our own

Public Displays Of A Public Display
Problem As displays are often located in areas where meetings take place, informal get togethers
happen or visiting guests are welcomed, we believe that they would provide a great opportunity
to act as some form of common space not only to share information between physically present
persons but also to exchange information with the display itself. For example, consider a visitor
who wants to show pictures from his recent tour to his friends or he suddenly decides to give a
presentation of his latest work while having a chat in a company s coffee area. It can be quite
cumbersome for all his friends to gather around the rather small mobile phone screen. Instead,
he would like to utilize any existing public display nearby to temporarily leverage the larger
screen for picture sharing or presentation purposes. However, such pervasive displays are
normally used only as output devices and do not allow user to interact with their operations.
Moreover, most public display do not provide any means of interaction with it nor is there an
easy way to add user content to be displayed. Instead, they automatically display contents that get
it from a central repository or web service and often this cycle have been in a pre determined way
(Geel, 2013). Literature Review Public displays have becoming increasingly prevalent within
public places such as train stations, airports and museums in order to disseminate information from
one central screen to a large audience (Lee et al, 2011). The

Homer Hickam s October Sky
Everyone is told at a very young age that they can be whatever they want to be. But is this really
true? In our day and age, with technology advancing daily, many young people find that it isn t as
easy to follow one s dreams as is portrayed in fairy tales. October Sky is like these books, as it
shows boys following their dreams by creating homemade rockets. But what makes this seemingly
unrealistic book stand out from the rest is its ability to inspire. This book intrigues the reader and
draws them in as it shows the characters as they learn. As a true story, the author Homer Hickam
writes about himself as the main character in the story of his life. He writes about his group of
friends as they come together and decide to create rockets.

Language Acquisition and Development
It is my pleasure to announce that I have gained quite many theories and knowledge about children
s language acquisition and language development process to analyze the condition of Tom and
provide some personal suggestions for his parents. The following statements are my analysis
considering to the language theories proposed by researchers and a repercussion for my personal
experience.
Nature versus Nurture
It was suggested in Chapter 2 that there are two theories regarding the language acquisition, nurture
or nature. Most behaviorists suggested that the child develops language due to nurture, which
means that the environmental exposure is the key to child s language development; whereas most
nativists considered that the child develops language due to nature, and the brain drives
development and children are born with the biology to acquire language.
According to BF Skinner, who developed Operant Conditioning Theory, in his 1957 classic, Verbal
Behavior, which Skinner reports the language is obtained by reinforcing modeling and continuous
practicing. His theory is based on the precondition that a behavior may increase or decrease
determined by what happens after a behavior occurs and thus external forces may modify the
behavior. It has been suggested in Language Arts journal of Michigan that speech instruction is very
fundamental in children s language development. Most of the times, it could be traced that there
are some patterns lied in children s reaction to various

Mexican Dictator Porfirio Diaz
From 1877 to 1910, Mexico was under the iron rule of one man, Gen. Porfirio Diaz. Gen. Diaz had
brought order to Mexico. He expropriated Church lands, opened Mexico to foreign investment, and
encouraged the development of commercial agriculture and the building of railways and industry.
In many ways, the Porfiriato brought prosperity to Mexico. But this prosperity was not equally
shared. The Diaz regime worked with the hacendados, powerful, semi feudal landowners, to seize
land held communally by Native Americans, to add to their estates. Just 3% of the population
owned 95% of arable or grazing land in Mexico. Too many rural Mexicans were penniless
sharecroppers, trapped in debt peonage; while Gen. DГaz and his henchmen ruthlessly stifled all...

Ambassador to Mexico. Wilson received the post primarily to protect U.S. economic interests
there: oil, mining, and the railroads. Taft had limited experience in foreign policy and made little
effort to understand his neighbors to the South. His idea of diplomacy was what his administration
called dollar diplomacy (based on the economic benefits the U.S. could gain). Early on in his
presidency, Mexican dictator Porfirio DГaz had sold most of Mexico s resources, especially those
below the soil, such as copper and oil, off to the highest bidders often to the U.S. U.S. ownership
of these resources were investments worth protecting. But in 1910, revolution was in the air, and
President Taft was concerned with the coming changes in Mexico. In 1911, Francisco I. Madero
and his followers overthrew the DГaz regime, which had held power for almost forty years. Henry
Lane Wilson became Taft s eyes and ears in Mexico. In truth, Madero s presidency represented no
real danger to U.S. economic interests. Madero himself came from the upper class, and he was not
about to upset the delicate economic balance in Mexico that had made his family rich. But Henry
Lane Wilson disliked Madero, and decided that Madero had to be

The Lessons Learned From Park Play
Governments Are Overfunding Parks The lessons learned from park play are not comparable to
what sidewalk play has to offer. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens
the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the
more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that
parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life
like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become
well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re
believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what
sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually
watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of
having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that
government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings
needed in society such as social abilities. I believe that instead of overfunding parks we could
benefit more by having the government actually invest more in club sports because I think club
teams open up more of an opportunity for people to develop their social skills, instead of playing in
a park. Club sports are provided in many cities but each one I

Advantages Of Creative Accounting
Amat, Blake Dowds (1999) perceived the various methods of creative accounting can be
considered to fall in four categories:
I There are different options to choose accounting methods sometimes like in many countries for
example; a company is allowed to choose between a policy of writing off Research and
Development expenditure as it occurs and amortizing it over the life of the related project. A
company can therefore choose that accounting will give them preferred image.
II. Some entries in accounting involve an unavoidable degree of estimation, judgment and
prediction. In some cases for example, in estimating life of an asset for calculating depreciation,
these estimates are normally made inside the business and the creative accountant ... Show more

Peter Singer Famine Affluence And Morality Summary
Peter Singer argues, in Famine, Affluence, and Morality, for a demanding account of what we
owe to others around the globe. Singer asserts that people from the more developed countries
have the responsibility of helping to reduce problems of poverty and famine in the poorer
countries. He argues that if it is within our capacity to stop a bad occurrence, without having to
give up anything that is of equal moral imperative, then we ought to do it. According to Singer, if
we witness a drowning baby, we ought to help the drowning baby even if it meant that we would
have to get our clothes dirty because getting our clothes dirty, which is the sacrifice that we have
to make, is of less moral importance compared to the life of an infant. Singer bases his argument on
the assumption that suffering and death from lack of food, shelter and medical care... Show more

An example that signifies this point would be the problems of mismanagement of donations by
South Sudan s elite for personal use. Sources from the Paris Club group of creditor nations that
provide debt relief to less developed countries, showed that up to $4 billion donated is found to be
missing and unaccounted for. (Malik Siraj Akbar, 2011) Therefore, in cases where there are such
inefficiency and corruption problems, giving more does not necessarily mean that one is able to
provide more benefit for those who are suffering from famine relief. Hence, Singer s argument that
we should be giving maximally for famine relief is flawed because in circumstances where there
are problems of bureaucracy or corruption, giving more does not necessarily benefit the destitute.
Rather, it may actually encourage problems of famine to persist if corrupted humanitarian aid
organisations view famine as an opportunity for them to embezzle donated funds. If that is the case,
then it would mean that what we are giving (and sacrificing) is wasted. Thus, not only did we
disadvantage ourselves by

Later in the movie, Dr. Neville takes Anna to the lab, Anna is amazed to see the zombies lying

Freedom Of Choice In Walt Whitman s I Hear America Singing
Being in American isn t standing up for the pledge, not just taking a moment of silence, and not
just celebrating the 4th of July. Being an American means having freedom in choosing your own
path, opportunity in creating your own destiny, and a hard working mentality to achieve your
goals. Since the beginning of the establishment of the United State; people have wanted the
freedom of choice. Immigrants long for it, and Americans have the ability to carry it out. We
first see freedom of choice in I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. The poem sates, The
shoemaker singing as he sits in his bench, the hatter singing as he stands, the woodcutter s song
(12). The following excerpt displays the freedom of choice in the lower class, or the blue collar

that you are free to choose whatever job you want. Secondly we see this idea of freedom of choice

displays that despite her current predicament she is willing to do whatever it takes to have a better
life for herself; she inherits a hard working mentality just like an American has. Next example of
hard working mentality in Americans is in the poem I, Too Sing America by Langston Hughes. In
the poem Langston Hughes writes, Tomorrow, I ll be at the table when company comes (3). This
shows that he s not satisfied with his current situation and despite his predicament he still wants
better for himself and doesn t stop his admirations. This is what it means to be an American; having

Stress In The Bible
The word stress has become an essential part of our vocabulary today. The American
Psychological Association defines stress as a feeling of being overwhelmed, worried or run down.
Stress can affect people of all ages, genders and circumstances and can lead to both physical and
psychological health issues. There are external and internal factor that causes stressevery day. For
example in an internal level can be the inability to accept uncertainty, rigid thinking, and lack of
flexibility, negative self talk, and unrealistic expectations or perfectionism. On the other hand,
people around us or external situations can also to elevate our level of stress, such as major life,

After living Egypt, the congregation of Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron in the
wilderness saying, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly
with hunger (New Revised Standard, Exo 16:3). This circumstances put in Moses and Aaron in
a stressful situation, they were responsible for these people that were hangry and did not have
anything to eat. Another example is the frequent wars that the Israelites went through. Also the
Bible narrates approximately 53 remarkable battles from Abraham to the beginning of the
Christianism. Moreover, slavery was a factor that produces stress. The Scripture shows us that
after Joseph death a new king came into power over Egypt, this king oppressed the Israelites and
made the people them work very hard (Exo 1:11 14). In the biblical context to have children was
not just a desire, but also a duty. Sarah and Abraham for a long time were waiting for the promised

A virus is an ultramicroscopic infectious organism that, having no independent metabolic activity,
can replicate only within a cell of another host organism. A virus consists of a core of nucleic

provides the necessary energy and raw materials. There are more than 200 viruses that are know to

breakout had the world in an uproar about the possibility of this virus spreading out globally. This
outbreak appeared to have started with a patient who had surgery in Kikwit on April 10,
1995. Members of the surgical team then developed symptoms similar to those of a viral
hemorrhagic fever disease (Ebola Info. from the CDC 2). From there, the disease spread to more

signs of bleeding occurred in 38% of cases (JAMA 274: 373). The World Heath Organization

The Between The Thorey And The Practice Essay
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THOREY AND THE PRACTICE?
The article of THE RIGHT TO DIE STILL SEEMS MORE THEORY THAN PRACTICE takes a
pro side of the right to die. Due to the problems of protecting the patients from abuse (from ones
who might want the patient dead or prolonging life for ulterior motives), and that the decisions
and views of ethics are been made from professional who may or may not know the patient or the
family well. These decisions such as quality of life are being define and made by society. It seems
as though that the theory is the battle over the patients rights, and the practice is the battle to
enforce them. This battle is catapulted from the fear of liability (civil and criminal), from the
institutes and the doctors. These situations usually leave the patient powerless.
HOW HAS THE TECHNOLOGY AND CAPABILITIES OF MEDICINEAFFECTED THE
DEBATE?
Since the advancement of technology and capability of medicine, the debate has risen to a level
of which it can t be ignored. The fact of prolonging someone life has to be a factor since it is
possibility of prolonging it comfortably. Before there were advancement of technology and
capability of medicine most American died at home, with their love ones around and family
doctors which would provide comfort and solace, also in some occasion the doctor would give

Running can also help the population of patients with heart disease by helping to improve their
oxygen intake. As found in an article written by Jonathan Myers, it was stated that As one s
ability to transport and use oxygen improves, regular daily activities can be performed with less
fatigue. This is particularly important for patients with cardiovascular disease, whose exercise
capacity is typically lower than that of healthy individuals (1). So not only can running help reduce
the chances of accumulating heart disease over the years, but it can also help certain patients who
unfortunately already have coronary heart disease (CHD). It may be surprising to hear, but the
way running effects your physical body system, also leads to affecting the brain. The amount of
oxygen your body produces can improve the amount of oxygen and minerals your brain consumes.
This leads into the next benefit of running. Running not only has physical health benefits, as listed
above, but is also known for having psychological benefits. One of the most commonly known
benefits is the runners high . This is a happy and energizing sensation that some runners feel once
they get done with a run. The reason this occurs is as described in an article by Keith Hillman as
through the production of certain hormones associated with feeling good. Running will help you to
produce serotonin and dopamine (1). The amounts of serotonin and dopamine are the

Yeats Manipulation
Yeats ambivalence of his personal and political world is displayed through his manipulation of form
throughout his poetry. The Second Coming published in 1919 explores how chaos and destruction
was the cause of Yeats uncertainty of the worlds ability to become stable and peaceful. Easter 1916
published in 1921 highlights how through manipulating form Yeats can communicate his
uncertainty of the Rebels violence. Yeats modernist piece, The Second Coming utilises poetic form
to explore how the worlds characterisation of violence and disorder catalysed his uncertainty about
both the political world and his personal world. Beginning in media res, the tetrameter turning and

The consistent rhyme scheme 16 24 16 24 is reflective of the Easter Uprising which occurred on the
24th April 1916, this structured rhyme represents the military style of the uprising, reinforced
through symbolism of grey , a dark tone foreshadowing the nature of the uprising. Manipulating
form Yeats switches between iambic trimeter and iambic tetrameter styles, representing his
uncertainty about the Rebels actions. Yeats uses the colour symbolism of motely to explore his
mocking attitude towards the violent actions of Irish Rebels MacDonagh and MacBride ,
referencing their lack of impact and significance through the _________ polite meaningless words .
Although, Yeats experiences a realisation of the key role of MacDonagh and MacBride in
reconciling peace and unity within Ireland, he displays uncertainty about their use of violence.
Yeats uncertainty about the Rebels violence is represented through the oxymoronic frame that
closes each stanza, a terrible beauty is born reinforced through its repetition Yeats explore his
paradoxical feelings regarding the necessity of the rebel s violent actions, therefore reflecting his
ambivalence. Throughout the fourth stanza Yeats manipulates form through his repeated use of
question marks, further catalysing his uncertainty of violence and conflict. Yeats questions if all the
destruction and death that resulted from the Rebels violent actions was in fact needed to achieve
peace, reinforced through the ________ was it needless death after all? . In conclusion, in Easter
1916 , Yeats reflects on the Irish Rebels violence which resulted in death and destruction, through
manipulating the poems form to reflect their impact, on both himself and the

Culpable Control Model Case Study
Support for the Culpable Control Model. Prior to the advancement of the culpable control model,
Alicke (1994) conducted two studies to investigate whether extralegal dispositional information
about a defendant would influence blame attributions and judgments of causality. Defendants were
categorized as either socially attractive (i.e., a good, responsible person) or socially unattractive
(i.e., an irresponsible, unsympathetic, reckless person). In both studies, characteristics of the
defendant influenced blame. More specifically, participants were significantly more likely to blame
the socially unattractive defendant when compared to the socially attractive defendant. Importantly,
the relationship between defendant s characteristics and blame... Show more content on

Although researchers have highlighted the potential application of the culpable control model in
examining juror bias (e.g., Nadelhoffer, 2006), results are limited. First, important aspects of the
model have been overlooked. Even though spontaneous evaluations are a central tenet of the
culpable control model, many studies have not measured them directly (e.g., Alicke, 1994;
Alicke Zell, 2009; Mazzocco, Alicke, Davis, 2004). Second, the generalizability of the model is
restricted. According to Alicke (2000), extralegal factors, such as social category, gender, race, or
reputation, may trigger negative spontaneous evaluations; however, researchers have primarily
focused on social attractiveness (e.g., Alicke, 1994; Alicke Zell, 2009). Finally, most of the
research has been conducted by Alicke and colleagues (e.g., Alicke, 1994; Alicke, Buckingham,
Zell, Davis, 2008; Alicke Zell, 2009; Mazzocco, Alicke, Davis, 2004). The current proposal seeks
to address some of these gaps in the research and expand the culpable control model by (1) directly
measuring negative spontaneous evaluations and (2) examining weight as an extralegal factor,
which has yet to be investigated within the framework of the culpable control

Benefits Of A Unified Salary Schedule
There are many advantages and disadvantages to a single, unified salary schedule. These types of
salary schedules only recognize years of service and amount of education to determine salary
amounts for all certified staff. Each salary schedule has strengths and areas of improvement, and
analysis of the salary schedule will highlight these areas. Salary schedules, including Hollister
RV School District s, only require teachers to remain employed thorough the school year to earn
a raise in pay for the next year, automatically moving to the next step on the salary schedule. Pay
increases also are earned by moving to the next lane or column based on the hours of graduate
credit completed toward an advanced degree, such as a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral degree.
Hollister RV School District s certified staff s salary schedule discloses several areas of
exceptionality, highlighting what is important to the District. However, there are also areas to be
improved, including recruitment and retention (Hollister RV School District, 2016). One
exceptional characteristic of the salary schedule is that the vertical steps carry the same monetary
value as the horizontal columns with the exception of completing a Master s degree or a
Specialist degree. This salary schedule indicates an equal value is placed on service and completed
education. Upon completing a degree, staff salaries increase $960 instead of the $480 earned by
simply accumulating additional hours of education.

Racial Prejudice By The Film Crash Essay
The term racial prejudice is defined as having a negative belief that is unfairly applied to all
individuals of an ethnic group even if such individuals have different characteristics as in
personality, appearance, and perspective. In society, many individuals believe that racial prejudice
only focuses on one particular social group, whereas others view racial prejudice pertaining to all
races. However, racial prejudice is without a doubt a phenomenon, one that isn t specific to one
ethnic or social group, instead prevalent in all groups of people that affect or are affected by the
institution of racism. Different associations and relationships play a vital role in how we perceive
others, at times people view others through the lens of racial prejudice. Crash, a movie directed by
(put director s name), shows different ethnic groupsthat face challenges within their lives as they
clash into one another by certain situations. In addition, Crash itself also focuses on many racial
prejudices that occur in society. The film Crash highlights the very notion that racial prejudice is
experienced by many groups because various ethnic groups are constantly violated for having
different physical appearances; mocked for having a different culture, and excluded from
opportunities within society s social structure.

Analysis Of The Movie The Graduate Essay
Edward Brambila
English 2 Prof. Sosner
12/16/2016
The Art of Symbolism in The Graduate The movie The Graduate is a struggle story of a fine
caliber that falls under the genre of comedic drama. Some might even argue that it was one of
the best films of its time and even till this day. The way the movie blends characters is anything
but superficial and its use of symbolism to describe said characters leaves little more to be
desired. While some may not like the movie and say it falls short the movie has proper use of
symbolism through the use of multiple props, it also uses symbolic statements as a way to
strengthen Dustin Hoffman s character s archetype and clue in on specific details which in turn
shows us the relationships between him and other characters. Of the many symbolic details the
first two we encounter at the very beginning of the film are cluing us in on the character of
Dustin Hoffman who is known as Benjamin Braddock. The two details happen almost
simultaneously, one being the song The Sound of Silence by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and
the other is the symbolic action of him sliding across the screen on an airport conveyor belt. The
first detail, the song, suggests that the character Benjamin or Ben is lost in the world. He has no
idea where to go from this point in his life forward. He is lost in the darkness of life and is
directionless. The second detail is the conveyor belt which forcibly moving him along. This
conveys the fact that throughout

Analysis Of Elif Shafak s The Gaze
The use of stylistic writing that Elif Shafak utilizes in the text of The Gaze contributes to a deeper
understanding of the novel. By incorporating the idea of circular connectivity into the text. Shafak
is able to convey the great significance of circles as a form of correspondence in her fictional
writing. Through the various different stories that are intertwined within the novel, Shafak merges
the ideas and events within the text, essentially bringing them into full completion. This writing
style using circular transition proves to be purposeful by conveying the idea that there is no
beginning, nor an end and wherever one does start, it all comes together once it is complete, similar
to a circle. For instance, when considering the scene... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When balloons are first presented in the main protagonist s dream, they are not recognized as
holding much significance. However, the main protagonist s want to become a balloon and fly
away can connect back to her childhood. For example, while the little girl, who is revealed to be
the main protagonist, watches an episode of Tom and Jerry where Jerry had become a balloon
and was starting to rise , she eats profusely (225). The mouse, Jerry , had become a balloon by
drinking a jug of milk and becoming bloated. This conveys a reason for the main protagonist s
excessive eating. The protagonist concludes that just as Jerry became a balloon from becoming
bloated, she could as well. The idea of the protagonist s excessive eating habits being related to
the Tom and Jerry episode provides yet another reason for her gluttonous nature. Also, perhaps B
C s comment that the protagonist would least likely fit in above the clouds by suggesting, for
someone as fat as you the sky has to be the most unlikely place encourages her to dream of being
like a balloon (240). Or, in a contrasting reality, B C s Gaze Dictionary entry about the protagonist
that she beholds encourages her final transition into becoming a balloon . An immense hunger
resounds in the protagonist because of her breakup with B C, and she admits that she has never
been this hungry before (248). To satisfy her hunger, she opens her mouth to consume the
atmosphere, which was the gas, in order to satisfy her hunger. She is inflated by the gas and
becomes a balloon, being able to float into the air just like she dreams of. However, the reality is
that she does not really become inflated at all. Still, this connection of ideas brings the text to full
completion using yet another aspect. This proves the stylistic writing choice that Shafak chooses to

The Power of Editing Compared to Mainland China and Taiwan, Hong Kong had a more political

Hong Kong enjoyed little or no government restriction on import quotas, it slowly became the

Besides action scenes, many filmmakers also use constructive editing for scenes demanding
fantastic or super natural feats, such as flying through the air , destroying an enemy from a
distance through palm power , and other killing scenes (Bordwell, 133 134). Whenever a scene is
difficult to execute in one establishing shot, filmmaker will take separate shots and use constructive
editing to connect each shot. For example in the film Kung Fu Hustle (2004) and Lost in Hong
Kong (2015), there are a lot of short length shots which will be difficult for filmmakers and editors
if they choose other editing styles besides constructive editing.
Constructive editing was very popular in Hong Kong action cinema. Many directors also use this
method to set a rhythm or to create a percussive interplay among shot compositions , but director
King Hu stretched this to another level (Bordwell, 135). Director King Hu believed that single
establishing shot couldn t present the entire action scene to the audiences, so it was very
important for the role of the editing. Hu took pride in rapid cutting, claiming that he was the first
Hong Kong director to use eight frame shots. He calls on constructive editing, which is supposed
to lay out the action clearly, and then does all he can to sabotage it (Bordwell, 163). Kung Fu
Hustle (2004) directed by Stephen Chow, was a kung fu comedy film about an ordinary man

The Pros And Cons Of The FDA
For producers of food animals in the United States this year is not going to be the same as any
other year in the past. Why, you may ask? The Food and Drug Administration created stricter
guidelines to the Veterinary Feed Directive. For example, any beef producer has used or heard
of MGA in their lifetime. Many producers just order MGA, mix it with the feed and feed it.
MGA is used to synchronize heifers or to prevent heifers from coming into heat in the feedlot so
they don t waste energy while in heat. Producers are now going to have to take extra steps to get
the antibiotics they need for their heard. This is going to affect almost all producers of food
animals, large and small. The FDA is going to have to teach and inform producers about how what
and why this is put into effect. FDA and researchers are going to have to explain to and keep
producers up to date with information like the following.
What is the FDA and what does it do you may ask? The FDA stands for Food and Drug
Administration. They are responsible for protecting the public s health, and ensure the safety and
security of human and veterinary dugs. They also regulate the making, selling and distribution of
products. The FDA regulates many things including foods, like additives and supplements, drugs,

A Comparison Of Henry Ford s Assembly Line And Model T
Ford s assembly line and Model T
Henry Ford s assembly line and his automobile, the Model T, revolutionized manufacturing and the
development of today s automobiles and engines. The assembly line and Model T caused American
industry to expand and also ushered a new American lifestyle.
The interest Ford had for mechanical and motorized machines started at an early age. He was
born on July 30, 1863 on a farm in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford had five siblings, and his parents
raised them all to be disciplined and healthy children. Ever since Ford was a little kid, he had great
interest in everything that was mechanic, and he would rather work on that over anything,
especially working on his father s farm. Ford had at all times dreamt of becoming ... Show more

Introduced on October 1, 1908, Model T started a whole new era of transportation. The first
Model T to ever be produced was in a factory on Piquette Avenue in Detroit, but the factory was
later moved to Highland Park plant due to the start of mass production of the car. Everyone wanted
the easily operated, easily maintained, and easily manageable car on the rough roads. Everyone
wanted a piece of the vehicle of the future (Schaetzl np). The car reached a top speed of c. 45
miles per hour, got c. 13 to 21 miles per gallon of gasoline, and the weight was only 1,200 pounds
(The Model T np). Ford could not believe how big of a hit his car was, and how much success
the invention had brought him. By 1918, the Model T was so popular that half of the people in
the United States owned one. The Model T was sold for $850 the first year of production, but
Ford was not at all satisfied with the cost of the production, and the fact that not everyone could
afford to buy the car. Ford had a business policy in which he was firm to achieve; lower the cost
per car and thereby increase the volume of the sales (Appleby 369). The request of the Model T
lead to the need of more production space, so Ford figured out that one factory simple was not
enough. In the early 1910s he decided to open the doors to his new company in Michigan, the
Highland Park plant, the Crystal Palace (Ford s Assembly Line np). The opening of the new factory
also led the opportunity to expand in another direction; taking mass production to the next level

illustrated by the popular phrase, Carpe Diem, or Seize the Day. Seeking out a similar sentiment,
Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress stresses the urgency of timeas a means to seduce an
unnamed mistress. He convinces her that their days are numbered and rather than being so
guarded, they should live those days to the fullest together before they fade away. The author
communicates his message through the use of literary devicessuch as hyperbole, personification,
and paradox.

The personification that stands out as the most potent in the poem is found in lines 21 22, But
at my back I always hear/ Time s winged chariot hurrying near. In this line, time is personified as
a driver in a chariot. By giving time a human quality, it helps make his words something that the
audience can connect and relate to as he expresses time in a foreboding, looming sense. This
gives a greater urgency to his request as it emphasizes the small amount of time they have left in
their life, and pressures the mistress to give herself up to him before it is too late. In addition to
demonstrating a strong use of personification, this line also signifies a critical shift in tone of the
piece. Here, the poem shifts from the previous, idealized I would scenarios which were filled
with extravagant exaggerations, to a more urgent and realistic but I can t scenario as he explains
why he will never be able adore her to the great extent that he mentioned previously due to the
finite reality of life. In doing so, he reiterates that if they don t act on their lust, all their potential

Joseph Campbell Definition Of A Hero
A hero is someone who has given her or his life to something bigger than oneself. A quote from
Joseph Campbell, this quote can represent a lot for a definition of what a hero is. A hero is
someone who gives something for something they believe is bigger. That s my representative of
that quote. Something that makes a heroor a function is they have to step out of their ordinary life.
A hero usually steps out of his or her ordinary life to do something or to give something up for
something bigger. They have to step out and do something out of the ordinary for them. A hero is
people who buy supplies or other things to help people whom had their property destroyed in a

Essay On Cupid
Cupid, being known for love, has greatly influenced today s society even with his questionable
background. In ancient Greece, he originated from Aphrodite. Cupid s other name was Eros. In
Roman times, his name is Cupid and his mother was Venus. His purpose was to to pierce the heart
of his victims and causing them fall deeply in love. The most known stories that he was involved in
was Apollo and Daphneand Cupidand Psyche. Apollo was shot by Cupid and fell in love with
Daphne. Daphne couldn t stand being bombarded by Apollo. The moral of the story is pride in
victory sets one up for defeat; in fact the moral of Cupid and Psyche story is love cannot thrive
where there isn t trust. The resolution to his story is he marries Psyche. Venus supports their
love. For Apollo and Daphne, Daphne is now the reason why we have the Laurel Tree. The
differences between Cupid s original story and most modern story is when the stories were first
created, they had different fact told and included. Now that the story has been passed down in time,
it has been modified to certain likings. An example from the source states, ...Distraught, Psyche
goes in search of her husband, traveling for many days, until she comes to the temple of Ceres, the
motherly goddess of grain. (The Ancient Fairy Taleof Cupid and Psyche, where love... Show more

His stories were repurposed by the Romans. This is what transformed Eros into Cupid. Latin
Literature explains his relationship with his mother, Venus. But he is mostly identified as the
offspring of Mars and Venus, the god and goddess of love and war. The Renaissance period is
what really depicted Cupid to be a chubby baby with a bow and arrows. The lead arrows were
forgotten as well as Cupid being a grown man. In the 1900s, the modern mythology of being shot
and falling passionately in love with the next person you seen took place. Traditionally he took

They found a roman house architecture in Pompeii during the excavation these ranged from
magnificent villas, modest house dwellings, workmen s houses to elegant residences, and the home
of merchants which were built around their workshops, and those who had their own vegetable
garden and plots of land for the use of farming.

woven into plaits at the nape of the neck. few women were still wearing their hair parted in the
centre. Less than one in 10 women of Pompeii whose bodies have been discovered were wearing
or carrying jewellery, and only a fraction of them would have owned a complete set. To be
adorned in gold from head to toe was a sign of the very highest status and almost all the jewellery
that has been discovered would have belonged to the wives of members of the town council.
Pale skin was ideal for wealthy women so they wore foundation made out of chalk, animal fat,
and white led. To show they didn t have to do work outside in the sun. They wore lipstick made
out of molluscs and ochre. Dark eyes were considered beautiful so they wore eyeliner made out
of soot. Perfume bottles were also found. The perfumes were made from spices and herbs e.g.
lavender, orange and rose etc. a cosmetic box was found and inside was found used hand mirrors
made of highly polished bronze. Hairstyles started off with simple buns, or plaits tied back. In the
final years, women wore more elaborate hairstyles. Which involved fake curls and hairpieces and

Essay on Beautiful by Christina Aguilera
I am beautiful no matter what they say
words can t bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
yes, words can t bring me down
so don t you bring me down today
Christina Aguilera
What exactly does Christina Aguilera try to convey? According to her words along with personal
interviews of the true meaning of this stanza in her song, Beautiful, Christina Aguilera approaches
the reader and listener with her profound emotions. She perceives that through immense pressure
and criticism, she is still beautiful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, her tone is encouraging to herself and those who receive a personal meaning from it.
Her tone leads us to her message, which is that Christina Aguilera is, indeed, satisfied with
herself and everything she is. She explains that despite whatever anyone says, she will not be
discouraged in any means. She wants the reader and listener to comprehend that she doesn t need
anyone to dishearten her of what exactly she is. She expresses to the reader and listener that she,
herself will not be stressed by others negative disapproval. Her purpose is to basically state that she
is who she is and no one will change that and addresses someone that there opinion would not
matter, regardless.
Analyzing the word, beautiful in this stanza, one should perceive that she is not actually singing
about the outside of her, but what she consists of emotionally and mentally on the inside. She
reveals that her thoughts and emotions are of worth and value and they are of her opinion. They
are consumed through her, and no one else and if anyone disagrees, she does not take that into
affect. Her diction is actually pretty precise. To quote a famous clichГ©, beauty is not skin deep.
She explains that the beauty is the sentiment.
Comprehending her lyrics, one may perceive from the understanding that her intended audience is
actually anyone who may be feeling the same way as her and the effect in which she wishes to
have upon them is to be like her in the

Relationships In King Lear
William Shakespeare s King Lear is massive in scope and deals with many themes. I d like to
focus on King Lear s relationship with his daughters as it evolves throughout the play as well as
the play King Lear s themes regarding politics and politicking. The passage I think best represents
the conclusion of these themes is King Lears conversation with Cordelia in Act 5, scene 3 where
they have been taken prisoner by the English. My conclusion from reading this passage closely
is that in Shakespeare s King Lear, King Lear s speech to Cordelia regarding their impending
imprisonment builds Shakespeare s idea of caged potential and judgement for those who politic.
The first lines of this speech, No, no, no, no! Come, let s away to prison: We two alone will sing
like birds i the cage: (5.3.8 9) in response to Cordelia s question of whether they should see
Goneril and Regan, give us an idea of King Lear s mental state at this time in the play. King Lear
appears to be lucid and to have largely regained his sanity from the earlier scenes of the play
once he has reunited with Cordelia. He insists strongly, with four noes, that they should go
immediately to prison. The metaphor of Lear and Cordelia as birds in a cage implies that he and
Cordelia will have lost their freedom, as a bird in a cage loses its ability to fly. Yet, by saying
that they shall sing in this cage, Lear says that they will be happy while they have lost flight and
freedom, they will have one another. King Lear

My Internship With An Economic And Trade Office Essay
Description During my internship with an Economic and Trade office, I was engaged in various
investments projects, cultural events, and HR administration duties. Part of my HR duty was
managing four different personalities to organise a cultural promotional event, with a
supervisor monitoring our progress. Even through we were supposed to work as a team, I did
not maximise on the strengths of each member, but took most of the responsibility myself.
Consequently, the team became demotivated and less efficient. We were not able to find much
sponsorship for the event. The director was displeased and blamed us for this failure. I became
disappointed and wished that I had engaged the team more by listening to their views, and
allowing them to contribute where the could. Feeling As I took it upon myself to perform most
of the tasks meant for the team, I felt as if I was doing the right thing because it would help
avoid mistakes. At the time, I thought that the team members were not competent enough to offer
better solutions for undertaking the project. I worried much about what might go wrong and was
unwilling to take the risk. I also wanted to prove my abilities and good judgment skills to the
supervisor. I now realize that I was trying to avoid a situation where I would take the
responsibility if the team failed to deliver. Even after completing the task, I still felt that everything
would be okay since I was in charge of everything and I rarely make mistakes. But the

The Great Mosque Of Cordoba Vs. Hagia Sophia
The Great Mosque of Cordoba vs. Hagia Sophia Religion has played a huge role in the history of
the world of architecture. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we
look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the
approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches
and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings,
the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their
approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion
played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who
commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that
their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their
divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinoplein A.D. 532 by the
emperor Justinian, who hired the renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was
built over an existing building built by Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very
significant building of its time and one that drew attention and respect. At this time in history the
Byzantines, specifically Justinian, wanted to make one message clear, that message being that the
emperor of the byzantines empire,

  • 3. Civil War Reconstruction Research Paper I bet you know about the Civil War but, what about the Reconstruction time period? The Reconstruction time period was another important part of the Civil War. The reconstruction was the time period after the Civil War. The Civil War was the war against the north and the south over slavery and many other different ways of life. The Civil War pretty much smoothed out the significant differences between the north and south but, that did not mean that the north and south got along well. The reconstruction started in 1865 and ended in 1877. The Reconstruction time period left a gigantic impact on northern and southern americans. Since 1985, the recording studio that once produced and made the dreams of many famous singers a reality has been a popular tourist attraction, known as Motown Museum. Motown Museum is open five days a week to local and international visitors. Visitors are given a tour through Studio A, where they can stand in the same room in which their favorite Motownartist stood. Additionally, visitors also tour the newly renovated upper flat that Berry Gordy and his family lived in during the early part of the company s years. This beautiful place that appears to be frozen in time and conveniently located in the exact same spot where it all began, started from the dream of a Detroitman named Berry Gordy. During the 1950s African Americans were plagued by discrimination and injustice. For example, Sugrue (1996) states, housing was a well sought after necessity by new migrants, rapidly growing postwar families, returning veterans, and people displaced by urban redevelopment and highway projects.(p. 52) Essentially, all of these people were typically the ones who had limited if not income at all. • 5. Religious Experience Research Paper The term religious experience can come up with a wide range and diverse series of images. We might assume that it can include anything from a prayer, to attending a service at a place of worship, to even hearing the voice of God . The argument for the existence of God based on religious experience is in fact a posteriori as it is based on people s encounters with God. Unlike other arguments, the argument is based on a direct link to God if we are able to show that God is experienced then we therefore cannot deny his existence. Many people are more likely to believe something if it has been experienced. Our experience of God is the best evidence we have that God exists. • 6. Summary Of The Hurt Locker By Brian Turner Opening the Hurt Locker In the poem The Hurt Locker the author Brian Turner, an Iraq war veteran, describes war how he views war after taking an active role in it. Several members of our class suggest that the final message of the Hurt Locker is duty versus morality. I agree to a certain extent, but I think there is a much bigger conflict with the author and the outside world. The author urges the reader to see warfor what it really is. In his poem Turner says, Believe it when you see it (2005). To me, this line is like an invitation to the readers to experience what war is like first hand. He wants people to see that there is much more to war than what people see on television or read in the paper. He also uses very descriptive language to describe some of the events that happened during this particular war. One example is when Turner says, Believe it when a twelve year old boy rolls a grenade into a room (2005). There is a certain shock value to this line that is meant to play on the reader s emotions. The author specifically uses the word rolls in this line which is striking because that s a word that is usually associated with play, like when you say to a child, Roll the ball to me. Generally speaking, when thinking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the line where I think the author s main message comes across the most clear. While watching the news or reading the newspaper, people do not learn about the things that Turner describes in his poem and I think that was the author s motivation behind writing this poem. Public Displays Of A Public Display Problem As displays are often located in areas where meetings take place, informal get togethers happen or visiting guests are welcomed, we believe that they would provide a great opportunity to act as some form of common space not only to share information between physically present persons but also to exchange information with the display itself. For example, consider a visitor who wants to show pictures from his recent tour to his friends or he suddenly decides to give a presentation of his latest work while having a chat in a company s coffee area. It can be quite cumbersome for all his friends to gather around the rather small mobile phone screen. Instead, he would like to utilize any existing public display nearby to temporarily leverage the larger screen for picture sharing or presentation purposes. However, such pervasive displays are normally used only as output devices and do not allow user to interact with their operations. Moreover, most public display do not provide any means of interaction with it nor is there an easy way to add user content to be displayed. Instead, they automatically display contents that get it from a central repository or web service and often this cycle have been in a pre determined way (Geel, 2013). Language Acquisition and Development It is my pleasure to announce that I have gained quite many theories and knowledge about children s language acquisition and language development process to analyze the condition of Tom and provide some personal suggestions for his parents. The following statements are my analysis considering to the language theories proposed by researchers and a repercussion for my personal experience. Nature versus Nurture It was suggested in Chapter 2 that there are two theories regarding the language acquisition, nurture or nature. Most behaviorists suggested that the child develops language due to nurture, which means that the environmental exposure is the key to child s language development; whereas most nativists considered that the child develops language due to nature, and the brain drives development and children are born with the biology to acquire language. According to BF Skinner, who developed Operant Conditioning Theory, in his 1957 classic, Verbal Behavior, which Skinner reports the language is obtained by reinforcing modeling and continuous practicing. His theory is based on the precondition that a behavior may increase or decrease determined by what happens after a behavior occurs and thus external forces may modify the behavior. It has been suggested in Language Arts journal of Michigan that speech instruction is very fundamental in children s language development. • 12. The Lessons Learned From Park Play Governments Are Overfunding Parks The lessons learned from park play are not comparable to what sidewalk play has to offer. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings needed in society such as social abilities. I believe that instead of overfunding parks we could benefit more by having the government actually invest more in club sports because I think club teams open up more of an opportunity for people to develop their social skills, instead of playing in a park. Club sports are provided in many cities but each one I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Singer asserts that people from the more developed countries have the responsibility of helping to reduce problems of poverty and famine in the poorer countries. He argues that if it is within our capacity to stop a bad occurrence, without having to give up anything that is of equal moral imperative, then we ought to do it. According to Singer, if we witness a drowning baby, we ought to help the drowning baby even if it meant that we would have to get our clothes dirty because getting our clothes dirty, which is the sacrifice that we have to make, is of less moral importance compared to the life of an infant. Singer bases his argument on the assumption that suffering and death from lack of food, shelter and medical care... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sources from the Paris Club group of creditor nations that provide debt relief to less developed countries, showed that up to $4 billion donated is found to be missing and unaccounted for. (Malik Siraj Akbar, 2011) Therefore, in cases where there are such inefficiency and corruption problems, giving more does not necessarily mean that one is able to provide more benefit for those who are suffering from famine relief. Hence, Singer s argument that we should be giving maximally for famine relief is flawed because in circumstances where there are problems of bureaucracy or corruption, giving more does not necessarily benefit the destitute. Rather, it may actually encourage problems of famine to persist if corrupted humanitarian aid organisations view famine as an opportunity for them to embezzle donated funds. Second, the generalizability of the model is restricted. According to Alicke (2000), extralegal factors, such as social category, gender, race, or reputation, may trigger negative spontaneous evaluations; however, researchers have primarily focused on social attractiveness (e.g., Alicke, 1994; Alicke Zell, 2009). Finally, most of the research has been conducted by Alicke and colleagues (e.g., Alicke, 1994; Alicke, Buckingham, Zell, Davis, 2008; Alicke Zell, 2009; Mazzocco, Alicke, Davis, 2004). The current proposal seeks to address some of these gaps in the research and expand the culpable control model by (1) directly measuring negative spontaneous evaluations and (2) examining weight as an extralegal factor, which has yet to be investigated within the framework of the culpable control ... • 24. Benefits Of A Unified Salary Schedule There are many advantages and disadvantages to a single, unified salary schedule. These types of salary schedules only recognize years of service and amount of education to determine salary amounts for all certified staff. Each salary schedule has strengths and areas of improvement, and analysis of the salary schedule will highlight these areas. Salary schedules, including Hollister RV School District s, only require teachers to remain employed thorough the school year to earn a raise in pay for the next year, automatically moving to the next step on the salary schedule. Pay increases also are earned by moving to the next lane or column based on the hours of graduate credit completed toward an advanced degree, such as a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral degree. Hollister RV School District s certified staff s salary schedule discloses several areas of exceptionality, highlighting what is important to the District. However, there are also areas to be improved, including recruitment and retention (Hollister RV School District, 2016). One exceptional characteristic of the salary schedule is that the vertical steps carry the same monetary value as the horizontal columns with the exception of completing a Master s degree or a Specialist degree. This salary schedule indicates an equal value is placed on service and completed education. Upon completing a degree, staff salaries increase $960 instead of the $480 earned by simply accumulating additional hours of education. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Racial Prejudice By The Film Crash Essay The term racial prejudice is defined as having a negative belief that is unfairly applied to all individuals of an ethnic group even if such individuals have different characteristics as in personality, appearance, and perspective. In society, many individuals believe that racial prejudice only focuses on one particular social group, whereas others view racial prejudice pertaining to all races. However, racial prejudice is without a doubt a phenomenon, one that isn t specific to one ethnic or social group, instead prevalent in all groups of people that affect or are affected by the institution of racism. Different associations and relationships play a vital role in how we perceive others, at times people view others through the lens of racial prejudice. Crash, a movie directed by (put director s name), shows different ethnic groupsthat face challenges within their lives as they clash into one another by certain situations. In addition, Crash itself also focuses on many racial prejudices that occur in society. The film Crash highlights the very notion that racial prejudice is experienced by many groups because various ethnic groups are constantly violated for having different physical appearances; mocked for having a different culture, and excluded from opportunities within society s social structure. Analysis Of The Movie The Graduate Essay Edward Brambila English 2 Prof. Sosner 12/16/2016 The Art of Symbolism in The Graduate The movie The Graduate is a struggle story of a fine caliber that falls under the genre of comedic drama. Some might even argue that it was one of the best films of its time and even till this day. The way the movie blends characters is anything but superficial and its use of symbolism to describe said characters leaves little more to be desired. While some may not like the movie and say it falls short the movie has proper use of symbolism through the use of multiple props, it also uses symbolic statements as a way to strengthen Dustin Hoffman s character s archetype and clue in on specific details which in turn shows us the relationships between him and other characters. Of the many symbolic details the first two we encounter at the very beginning of the film are cluing us in on the character of Dustin Hoffman who is known as Benjamin Braddock. The two details happen almost simultaneously, one being the song The Sound of Silence by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and the other is the symbolic action of him sliding across the screen on an airport conveyor belt. The first detail, the song, suggests that the character Benjamin or Ben is lost in the world. He has no idea where to go from this point in his life forward. He is lost in the darkness of life and is directionless. The second detail is the conveyor belt which forcibly moving him along. This conveys the fact that throughout ... By incorporating the idea of circular connectivity into the text. Shafak is able to convey the great significance of circles as a form of correspondence in her fictional writing. Through the various different stories that are intertwined within the novel, Shafak merges the ideas and events within the text, essentially bringing them into full completion. This writing style using circular transition proves to be purposeful by conveying the idea that there is no beginning, nor an end and wherever one does start, it all comes together once it is complete, similar to a circle. When balloons are first presented in the main protagonist s dream, they are not recognized as holding much significance. However, the main protagonist s want to become a balloon and fly away can connect back to her childhood. For example, while the little girl, who is revealed to be the main protagonist, watches an episode of Tom and Jerry where Jerry had become a balloon and was starting to rise , she eats profusely (225). The mouse, Jerry , had become a balloon by drinking a jug of milk and becoming bloated. This conveys a reason for the main protagonist s excessive eating. The protagonist concludes that just as Jerry became a balloon from becoming bloated, she could as well. The idea of the protagonist s excessive eating habits being related to the Tom and Jerry episode provides yet another reason for her gluttonous nature. Also, perhaps B C s comment that the protagonist would least likely fit in above the clouds by suggesting, for someone as fat as you the sky has to be the most unlikely place encourages her to dream of being like a balloon (240). Or, in a contrasting reality, B C s Gaze Dictionary entry about the protagonist that she beholds encourages her final transition into becoming a balloon . An immense hunger resounds in the protagonist because of her breakup with B C, and she admits that she has never been this hungry before (248). To satisfy her hunger, she opens her mouth to consume the atmosphere, which was the gas, in order to satisfy her hunger. She is inflated by the gas and becomes a balloon, being able to float into the air just like she dreams of. However, the reality is that she does not really become inflated at all. Still, this connection of ideas brings the text to full completion using yet another aspect. This proves the stylistic writing choice that Shafak chooses to utilize emphasizes the ... Whenever a scene is difficult to execute in one establishing shot, filmmaker will take separate shots and use constructive editing to connect each shot. For example in the film Kung Fu Hustle (2004) and Lost in Hong Kong (2015), there are a lot of short length shots which will be difficult for filmmakers and editors if they choose other editing styles besides constructive editing. Constructive editing was very popular in Hong Kong action cinema. Many directors also use this method to set a rhythm or to create a percussive interplay among shot compositions , but director King Hu stretched this to another level (Bordwell, 135). Director King Hu believed that single establishing shot couldn t present the entire action scene to the audiences, so it was very important for the role of the editing. Hu took pride in rapid cutting, claiming that he was the first Hong Kong director to use eight frame shots. He calls on constructive editing, which is supposed to lay out the action clearly, and then does all he can to sabotage it (Bordwell, 163). The car reached a top speed of c. 45 miles per hour, got c. 13 to 21 miles per gallon of gasoline, and the weight was only 1,200 pounds (The Model T np). Also, her tone is encouraging to herself and those who receive a personal meaning from it. Her tone leads us to her message, which is that Christina Aguilera is, indeed, satisfied with herself and everything she is. She explains that despite whatever anyone says, she will not be discouraged in any means. She wants the reader and listener to comprehend that she doesn t need anyone to dishearten her of what exactly she is. She expresses to the reader and listener that she, herself will not be stressed by others negative disapproval. Her purpose is to basically state that she is who she is and no one will change that and addresses someone that there opinion would not matter, regardless. Analyzing the word, beautiful in this stanza, one should perceive that she is not actually singing about the outside of her, but what she consists of emotionally and mentally on the inside. She reveals that her thoughts and emotions are of worth and value and they are of her opinion. They are consumed through her, and no one else and if anyone disagrees, she does not take that into affect. Her diction is actually pretty precise. To quote a famous clichГ©, beauty is not skin deep. She explains that the beauty is the sentiment. Comprehending her lyrics, one may perceive from the understanding that her intended audience is actually anyone who may be feeling the same way as her and the effect in which she wishes to have upon them is to be like her in the ... • 44. Relationships In King Lear William Shakespeare s King Lear is massive in scope and deals with many themes. I d like to focus on King Lear s relationship with his daughters as it evolves throughout the play as well as the play King Lear s themes regarding politics and politicking. The passage I think best represents the conclusion of these themes is King Lears conversation with Cordelia in Act 5, scene 3 where they have been taken prisoner by the English. My conclusion from reading this passage closely is that in Shakespeare s King Lear, King Lear s speech to Cordelia regarding their impending imprisonment builds Shakespeare s idea of caged potential and judgement for those who politic. The first lines of this speech, No, no, no, no! Come, let s away to prison: We two alone will sing like birds i the cage: (5.3.8 9) in response to Cordelia s question of whether they should see Goneril and Regan, give us an idea of King Lear s mental state at this time in the play. King Lear appears to be lucid and to have largely regained his sanity from the earlier scenes of the play once he has reunited with Cordelia. He insists strongly, with four noes, that they should go immediately to prison. The metaphor of Lear and Cordelia as birds in a cage implies that he and Cordelia will have lost their freedom, as a bird in a cage loses its ability to fly. Yet, by saying that they shall sing in this cage, Lear says that they will be happy while they have lost flight and freedom, they will have one another. King Lear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. My Internship With An Economic And Trade Office Essay Description During my internship with an Economic and Trade office, I was engaged in various investments projects, cultural events, and HR administration duties. Part of my HR duty was managing four different personalities to organise a cultural promotional event, with a supervisor monitoring our progress. Even through we were supposed to work as a team, I did not maximise on the strengths of each member, but took most of the responsibility myself. Consequently, the team became demotivated and less efficient. We were not able to find much sponsorship for the event. The director was displeased and blamed us for this failure. I became disappointed and wished that I had engaged the team more by listening to their views, and allowing them to contribute where the could. Feeling As I took it upon myself to perform most of the tasks meant for the team, I felt as if I was doing the right thing because it would help avoid mistakes. At the time, I thought that the team members were not competent enough to offer better solutions for undertaking the project. I worried much about what might go wrong and was unwilling to take the risk. I also wanted to prove my abilities and good judgment skills to the supervisor. I now realize that I was trying to avoid a situation where I would take the responsibility if the team failed to deliver. Even after completing the task, I still felt that everything would be okay since I was in charge of everything and I rarely make mistakes. But the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Great Mosque Of Cordoba Vs. Hagia Sophia The Great Mosque of Cordoba vs. Hagia Sophia Religion has played a huge role in the history of the world of architecture. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings, the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinoplein A.D. 532 by the emperor Justinian, who hired the renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was built over an existing building built by Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very significant building of its time and one that drew attention and respect. At this time in history the Byzantines, specifically Justinian, wanted to make one message clear, that message being that the emperor of the byzantines empire, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
