Scriptwriting for Film and

The course provides a thorough grounding in all aspects of television, film and media:
the history, the theoretical underpinning, the current status and the future. You will
emerge with the ability to write high-quality TV and film scripts for different genres –
shorts, dramas, series, radio drama, online drama and feature film. You will also learn
how to pitch your ideas, the importance of visual imagery, how to write for specific
audiences and gain a thorough understanding of the industry you are entering. As a
student on this course, you’ll develop a powerful writing voice and the potential to
produce scripts that can reach production. Previous graduates have enjoyed
considerable success, and have written and produced feature films and broadcast
episodes for Doctors, Emmerdale, The Bill, Casualty, Holby City, Hollyoaks and Timmy
Time.
This scriptwriting course is highly focused, offering unique training in creating the very
foundation of film and television; the scripts themselves. It is designed and taught by
professionals from the world of film and television and includes a professional industry
placement where you will gain relevant experience at the same time as making invaluable
contacts.
This course requires a minimum
of 5 GCSEs or equivalent at

A graduate with a degree in Media Production will have the opportunity to explore a career in
any industry that requires excellent communications and team-working skills. The specialist
nature of this course means that many graduates go on to explore careers in scriptwriting for TV
and film as well as advertising or journalism. Media Production (Scriptwriting) draws on the
strengths of the well-established and successful course in media production. It adds to the
existing provision by providing an opportunity to focus on scriptwriting. Many graduates from
Media Production have now progressed to successful careers in the UK and international media.
The emphasis of this course is on the production process. Media production is influenced by
many cultural, economic and political factors - you'll study these factors, together with the
history of the media, so that you can make effective, powerful scripts and other media products
that connect with their target audience. The course covers theoretical and practical concepts,
and you will learn to combine these elements to communicate effectively. All students learn to
write a variety of scripts as well as essays, presentations, dramas and documentaries.

• This course aims to expand your knowledge of the emerging field of
digital culture from cinema to YouTube. You are equipped with both
traditional and imaginative skills that you use to develop new ideas
at the leading edge of digital film media, exploring the meaning and
context of your work, and you are encouraged to pursue your own
creative vision, culminating in an individual or group final year
project. You study a range of genres and develop an in-depth
understanding of critical theory on visual culture, moving image and
digital media. You have the option to gain specialist knowledge in
the fields of digital media, video production and post-production. In
addition you learn working practices that mirror the industry,
preparing you for a career in the digital film industries, further
study and your own creative practice. This course has produced
national award winners and alumni now work for international
visual effects companies and on Hollywood films.

This exciting course in Media and Screen Studies will provide
you with a thorough grounding in the historical and cultural
impact of film, television, radio and other media. It explores
the relationship between media and society, with a particular
emphasis the social and cultural effects of screen
representation and the social and cultural contexts of screen
production. The degree is based within the School of Drama,
Music and Screen which has an established reputation for
leading the field in teaching and research. It also draws upon
the expertise of staff from other Schools within the
University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Many modules
on the course evolve from the staff’s research interests,
bringing new insights into the subject and keeping it current.
The staff are also actively involved in publishing articles and
books and are experts in their field.
