June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. Experience
Animation sector :
I have worked as the Studio Director of four animated series for
broadcast television in Sydney Australia. My key duties
involved working daily with the animation crews, both in house
and overseas to clearly communicate complex, production
information orally and in writing in order to meet deadlines.
Two of the series, Wicked! And Crocadoo, were top rated in their
scheduled time slots and were syndicated globally. This is an
indication of my ability to lead the work of a team, co-ordinating
and delivering objectives.
3. Experience
Animation feature film credits include;
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Walt Disney Studios)
Other broadcast TV animation credits include;
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Chronicles of Narnia – Granpa
Animated music videos include;
Tom Jones with Art of Noise ‘Kiss’
Animated TV commercials include;
Simply Warmer Energy Services, (series of 3-D animated ads)
Games credits include;
‘Hyperbrawl Tournament’ – Directed successful pilot
5. Experience
In 2003 I launched and directed my own animation company
Eek Films Limited
I worked with and employed artists on high end animation productions
including Modern Toss (Ch4) and Tommy Zoom (BBC)
I also directed Eek Films Community Interest Company (not for profit)
Through this company I Identified and secured external funding through
grants, match funding and contracts. Developed collaborative, income
generating ideas to work with disadvantaged young people in the North
West region.
Funding for projects was raised through The Arts Council, Liverpool City
Council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
My experience illustrates my ability to develop partnerships with both
internal and external agencies.
7. Technical Skill set
I graduated with a (2:1) BA Hons degree in Fine Art at Exeter in
1986 where I combined my drawing skills with film making. I
then worked as a rostrum camera assistant before progressing
as a freelancer through departments to become a traditional
animation artist and subsequently, Studio Director using skills
learned as animator, layout artist and storyboard artist.
As a result of my career progression, I can combine traditional
skills with digital know-how. I consider myself to be well suited
to the role of Senior Animation Lecturer at MMU because
experience would inform teaching and benefit students
pursuing a career in the animation sector.

8. Research
My research interests involve the consolidation of my industry
portfolio, directing and producing texts for children’s
entertainment. with pedagogical strategies and their impact on
shaping the consciousness of young people.
A career aim is to pursue a PhD via the publication route in
order to situate my industry profile thematically. I aim to make
an original contribution to knowledge in the field of children’s
television narrative and the emerging relationship to new
media.
I am keen to contribute to the academic conversation in this
field by sourcing and developing live briefs between students,
industry and the university as potential stakeholders.
9. Research
I was awarded the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Post
Compulsory) by the University of Lancashire in 2012 and have
equivalent professional practice in the area of animation to a
doctorate level qualification.
In addition, I can point to experience teaching in the area of
animation at the relevant level.
I have experience of :
Supervising the work of undergraduate and post graduate
students, proving support and feed back.
My duties also include providing appropriate pastoral support to
students.
10. Research
BBC have announced that they will invest £34 million to
develop children’s content over the next three years
in an effort that could help it compete with American
streaming ‘giants’ such as Netflix and YouTube.
This is important because:
It is indicative of the decline in children’s TV viewer
ship.
It demonstrates the influence of American streaming
companies.
Other companies are making upgrades to their
children’s content.
11. Thank you
It is my strong belief that students have the right to be
equipped with a critical understanding of the roles,
importance and impact of art, design and media
production through a knowledge of representation
and narrative. My own experience informs me that,
by introducing students to a broad range of
techniques and concepts, they will be better placed
to locate their own practice within the emerging and
expanding new and interactive media and animation
industries.
