Understanding Barcodes/
Product IDs
To know whether the products are already on Amazon on not, you need bar codes. Every product whether
already on Amazon or a completely unique product, has a bar code or product ID that is a must to list on
Amazon.
If a product doesn’t have a product ID, the seller either has to buy IDs using the site: www.gs1india.org or apply
for exemption using a template on Seller Central (Chapter covered later)
We support the following bar code standards:
• ISBN (International Standard Book Number) – a 10 or 13 digit international standard (Only for books)
• UPC (Universal Product Code) – a 12 digit US-American standard
• EAN (European Article Number) – a 13 digit European standard. EAN-10 with 10 digits is also supported
• GTIN (Global Trade Identification Number) – a 14 digit global standard
