Unacademy is an Indian online education company founded in 2015 that offers online learning material for exams through a network of over 18,000 educators. It provides both free pre-recorded video lessons and paid "live classes" through its Unacademy Plus subscription service. The live classes form the main revenue source. 3.  Unacademy is an Indian online education technology
company based in Bangalore. It was originally created
as a YouTube channel in 2010 by Gaurav Munjal. As a
company, it was founded by Gaurav Munjal, Roman
Saini, and Hemesh Singh in 2015, and is headquartered
in Bangalore.
 The company has a network of over
18,000 educators, and offers
preparation material for several
professional and educational
entrance exams. Unacademy lessons
are in the form of Live Classes both
free and via subscription.

4.  As of today, there are two different
categories of learning material available on
the Unacademy Platform
 The first category consists of the pre-
recorded video lessons which are submitted
by the educators on the platform. This pre-
recorded content is free and is available to
anyone who registers on the platform
 Most of their educational video content is
free but not all – which brings us to the
second category of learning materials –
the ones you need to pay for…

5.  The second category of learning materials consists of
the ‘live classes’ under the Unacademy ‘Plus’ branding.
Unlike the pre-recorded content, the ‘live’ classes are
not free and one has to pay the pre-determined course
fee to gain access to such classes online.
 The ‘live’ online classes form the main source
of revenue for Unacademy.
 In the future the Unacademy team might
also look at monetising their free pre-
recorded video lessons by broadcasting ads
during the video play time (in the same way
that YouTube does it today). This is however
purely a speculation of mine and not
confirmed by the Unacademy team.

6.  CONCENTRATING HEAVILY ON COURSES WHICH
NEED RELEARNING
 The courses that they started creating are
high-value intensive courses like the
preparation for IAS concentrating on certain
subjects
 In our country where there are lakhs of
aspirants for the civil services exams, the
popularity of the offering was bound to
increase given their background.
 These are such types of courses where even
if the student has studied multiple times
she/he would still want to practice and be
more prepared.
 A free lecture offering by a young IAS officer
is like an icing on the cake for the students.
 In addition, they concentrated on creating
spoken English courses and Coding courses
which require a student to keep in touch
with the subject.

As compared to other eLearning ventures like Byju’s that
need to invest heavily in creating attention capturing
content (purely due to the target age) and other
education companies which invest heavily in
infrastructure and studios.
Thus making it difficult for a small educator to
produce his own content. Unacademy has
democratized content creation.
As visible from the composition of educators, many
contributors are young pass-outs or teachers who have
recently completed the same exams successfully.
This has kept the cost of content creation and onboarding
of teachers at a lower rate which I feel gives the company
enough space to burn cash for marketing

What makes Unacademy a very attractive partner is the
Unacademy educator’s app which makes it easier for
the educator to record his or her lectures on the phone
at the very least.

her family at their own eatery in
the hilly and terse terrain of
Ladakh. Amidst tough
circumstances, her determination

Class. She maintains a balance
