UK Security H&S manager
 Preface

In the beginning:
The idea for this booklet/guidebook was originally design for my own
personal use whilst I was working as a Safety, Health and Environmental
Co-ordinator in 2004 maintaining the ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001
environmental accounts for a large ‘blue chip’ company in Bristol.

Unsafe Environment
When I was a Health and Safety Advisor in 2001, I introduced the Zone
control system to gain involvement in safe working practices from the
lethargic supervision team and disillusioned employees. It was first used
by them with some success and I continued using it at work up to the
time I parted company with them in October 2006.

Lean Productive Units:
Fortunately for me I had been working along with another Safety
Practitioner and close friend designing an easy to use portable system
for safety, I have now applied the system and process to UK Security
and it can be used anywhere they are likely to work in the future.

I have developed the idea further in my own time, through everyday safe
working practices, working with railway maintenance teams in
partnership with Network Rail and came up with this practical solution to
workplace safety. ‘The Zone Control System for Safety’

Now:
With the recent change in my circumstances and the new legislation, in
relation to Fire Safety coming to the force, I now believe this system may
help other businesses, small, medium or large achieve compliance. This
booklet has been design in particular for small businesses such as
Public Houses and Security practices and my experience as a health
and safety manager/consultant with UK Security has helped
measurably...
