7. What can you do? As we interact with students, remember that they are the centrality of our existence. Be there to help students find appropriate resources Submit Student Alerts on students you are concerned about.

9. Student Success Retention increased to 81.8% for fall 2009 cohort, projected to be similar for fall 2010 cohort. UK 101, Peer Tutoring, Student Support for Underrepresented Minority and First Generation Students, Peer Tutoring all enhance success Academic Enhancement Peer Tutoring Program provided nearly 17,600 sessions for students in entry level courses, up 17% from last year. Sophomore to Junior year transition must improve to erase ~10% attrition – Efforts in the Major!

11. What is a QEP? Quality Enhancement Plan A core requirement for SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation: “. . . a carefully designed course of action that addresses a well-defined and focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning”(SACS Handbook for Reaffirmation of Accreditation, 2007, p. 3).

12. What is our QEP? Why are we here today? Multimodal Communication Across the Curriculum (MCXC) To tell you what it is and to generate “buzz”

13. Why MCXC? 1) It’s what employers want. Association of American Colleges and Universities (Hart, 2007)

14. 2) 2009 Follow-up . . . “[Only] one in four employers thinks . . . colleges are doing a good job” (p. 2). 89% said colleges should place greater emphasis on developing students’“ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing” (p. 9). 81%: critical & analytical reasoning skills

15. 3) UKCore Design principle #3 (vertical integration) Learning outcome #2 (written, oral, and visual communication) 4) Graduation Writing Requirement (GWR) Communication Requirement in the Major (CRM)

17. Faculty Development Student Tutoring To help design instruction, assignments, and assessment tools to achieve profession-appropriate communication learning outcomes To help create and refine classroom communication projects (flat/static print, face-to-face, digital/online)
