2. Plato s Declaration Of Beauty
Plato describes beauty in the Phaedo as being radiant among other objects , while
the other virtues remain murky in relation to it. Plato s declaration of beauty s
radiance indicates that it is significant. Beauty is observed most clearly by use of
vision, which is the sharpest of our bodily senses . Platoexplains that beauty alone has
this privilege, to be the most clearly visible and the most loved . Because of the way
in which beauty stands out among the other virtues, Plato confirms that beauty is
dominant over the other virtues. In the Symposium, Diatoma explains how beauty is
the highest good and is in harmony with the divine . Her definition indicates that
there is a relationship between material beauty and divine Beauty. Beauty is intended
to lead to Love, which Diatoma defines as wanting to possess beautiful things forever
. Once a man possesses beautiful things, he achieves love and is happy. A man comes
to possess beautiful things through the process of reproduction. In reproduction,
lovers attempt to preserve their beauty by transmitting their beauty to offspring. The
lovers are successful if they give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul .
Reproduction immortalizes the parents beauty, since the offspring possess the parents
beauty after they die. According to Diatoma s definition of Love, the parents who
reproduce beauty achieve Love.
In the life of a philosopher, beauty is essential. The goal of philosophy is to achieve a
3. A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman
So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with
something like science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not
fundamentally wrong answers, those with such responses do not understand the
full breadth of what genres truly are. According to the dictionary, a genre is a class
or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the
like (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre
really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their
purposes we must first take a step back and look at some other fundamental
concepts. A popular model designed by Bruce W. Tuckman suggests that all groups
experience five phases: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning
(Gulati 439 440). At our cores, humans seek to be accepted and acknowledged by
others. We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the areas we are
passionate about. This part of human nature is nothing new, it is something
programmed deep into our genes for millennia. It happens before our eyes every
day; sports fans meet in stadiums, video game fans meet at conventions, artists meet
at exhibitions, and so on. People of similar interest meet, one way or another, and are
drawn together by their passion. Some groups remain small friend circles, while
others may grow vastly to be composed of millions of members. These vast
communities, known as discourse communities,
4. The Cultural And Religious Traditions Of The European...
In an eastern Mediterranean province, a group of pious individuals pray before the
elaborate portrait of a local saint and hero, hoping the image will bestow upon them
some semblance of safety and secure for them a good harvest and protection from the
aggressive invaders who continue to threaten their lands to the south. The individuals
know little about the movement stirring in the large city to the north, which seeks to
remove the holy image to which they so ardently pray. From the west, rumors of a
new Creed have made their way to the town, but the grand political and historical
implications of this document are unknown the laity, who, illiterate, have never read
the creed to which their church adheres.

Though such controversies alone have many theological and religious implications,
they can only be truly understood in the political and historical context in which they
arose.
Religious icons, or images, may include paintings, murals, portraits, or mosaics,
which, in the seventh through ninth centuries, commonly depicted Christ, the
likeness of a saint, or a particular scene from scripture. The dispute over the use of
icons and religious imagery in the Church, and the nature of this use amongst the
laity, began in the Eastern Roman Empire, or Byzantine Empire, in the late seventh
century, with the movement against icons, or the iconoclasm movement, reaching its
height in the mid ninth century. The use of Icons in Christian practice began in the
Coptic Church in Egypt, and spread throughout the Byzantium Empire, developing
into a vital form of religious education and communication for the laity throughout
the East. Those who opposed religious iconography, did so on the basis of
scripture, as the practice of icon use was clearly condemned in Old Testament text.
As the use of every religious icon could not be explicitly regulated, it was difficult
for religious and imperial authorities to determine how such icons were used by the
public. Thus, as it was unknown whether the laity prayed before or to the icons in
their community, all religious icons were removed to prevent the risk of unorthodoxy
and the potential practice of idolatry (Brubaker et al., 2011).

5. The Negative Effects Of De-Extinction
De extinction: a scientific breakthrough and a process in which humans can use
genetic engineering to bring back a species that was once extinct. Despite how
intriguing it is that humans can accomplish this, the act of using de extinction to
bring back different species can be detrimental to the environments that they are
introduced into. Humans can control how they create and modify a speciesthat they
bring back from extinction, an example being which species they use to replicate
another species and the modifications they make for it to be able to thrive.
However, once they are let out into an environment, the control lessens and the
species can kill off different creatures and bring diseases to others, overall having a
negative effect. There is no telling what a species will do if it is brought back from
extinction, especially if that particular species died off decades or centuries ago
and their habitat is no longer what it once was. There would be a chance that they
would be brought back from extinction only to go extinct again. De extinction
should be avoided because there are too many risks such as costs, diseases, and the
ideology that any species can come back after going extinct. De extinction is finally
emerging and being more widely spoken about as scientists and engineers plan the
process of bringing back the passenger pigeon. This can create a multitude of
problems for the planet. De extinction is the process in which a species is replicated
or made similar
6. Analysis Of Face It, Ladies By Elissa Strauss
It Is What Is On the Inside That Counts As Amy Davis says, True beauty lies deep
within. No matter what you look like on the outside, if you know you are beautiful,
nobody can change that. Society today has created a difficult beauty standard for
women to attain; therefore, women feel bad about themselves if they do not fit
society s ideal image. In her article, Face it, ladies: We can t all be beautiful, author
Elissa Strauss describes the impossible beauty definition we have in the world today.
Strauss believes it is what is on the inside that counts. Strauss has the right idea
because all women are beautiful in their own way. Some women express their beauty
through intelligence and morals, while others show their beauty in a physical... Show

Strauss states, In recent years, labels like American Eagle Outfitters and Betabrand
have hopped on the real wagon featuring more average looking women in their
campaigns. For example, American Eagle does not use stick thin models to
display their products which makes their clothing more enticing to average
women. Strauss makes a great point when she says, Here s the thing about real
bodies. We actually see them every day. Walk down the street. Go to a locker
room. Or a beach. Real bodies are literally everywhere (except perhaps a few
neighborhoods in Miami or Los Angeles). So these attempts aren t about getting us
to see more real bodies they re about getting us to engage in some communal
affirmation that they are not only okay but also beautiful. Real bodies are
prevalent compared to the ideal female body. If society could see average bodies in
the same light as they see the unhealthy skinny models, women s self esteem would
grow at an astonishing rate. In the article it is stated, How thin is too thin for real
beauty? How fat is too fat? There is no answer to this question. If you are at a
healthy weight and not underweight or overweight, there is nothing wrong with the
number the scale shows. Beauty is not always physical because a woman can be
beautiful by intelligence, her morals, or her compassion towards

this group was renowned throughout England because they were chivalrous
outlaws that stole from the rich and gave to the poor the movie The Adventures of
Robin Hood (1938) depicts it well. They were considered outlaws because the
Normans forcefully took over England and made the Saxons pay for everything
they wanted no matter how poor it made their living so Robin started the band to
rebel against what was wrong. Robin and his Merry Men all were very chivalrous
even though they were considered outlaws they followed many of the rules of a knight
including Defending the weak, to protect women and children, and granting mercy
to their enemies. The first honorable trait of a knight was the act of defending the
weak and the helpless. This could be seen in the movie when Robin protects Much.
This scene occurred when Much shoots a deer and Sir Guy tries to arrest him then
Robin comes in and holds Sir Guy at arrow point unless he leaves. Sir Guy then
leaves and Much joins his group due to a stranger defending him because alone he
was weak and helpless. The next example in the film was when Robin was showing
Marian what the Normans did to the Saxons which caused them to flee and live with
Robin in the forest. This was an act of defense because he protected the Saxons after
the Normans took everything from them. He also fed them and... Show more content

The first example was when Robin won the arrow he made sure to keep Marian out
of the fire between the forces by giving himself up to Prince John and Sir Guy.
This was honorable because he was willing to give his life to protect her. Another
example of this code was when Sir Guy and Marian were captured by Robin Hood
she was treated with respect and dignity whereas Sir Guy was treated less
respectfully. This was because Robin believed that women were a thing to be
treasured and should be treated as such. In the movie Robin never broke his code of
chivalry to protect women and

Environmental and sustainability considerations for very large systems
As mentioned above, the demand for faster and smaller devices with higher
performance is increasing. However with increasing devices, there is increase in
data generated. Large companies like google, amazon, Microsoft and many others
generate huge amounts of data which is stored in large storage centres called Data
centres. It is estimated that by 2020, around 35 zettabytes of data will be generated
every year [6]. To store and manage such large data, huge data centres are required.
However there are many challenges faced while operation of these datacentres.
One of the challenges faced by the data centres is land occupied by these data
centres. Due to increasing amounts of data, larger and more number of data
centres are being built. For example, one of the largest data centre by digital realty
occupies 1.1 million ft2 of land and require 53 generators [6]. It is estimated that by
2017 there will be around 8.6 million data centres around the world and although the
numbers might decrease after 2017, the space occupied will increase. Data centre
swill occupy around 1.94 billion ft2 by 2018 [7].
Second and the most important challenge faced by the companies are the amount of
energy required to manage data centres. All the data centres around the world use
around 30 billion watts of energy on average, which is equal to output by 30 nuclear
power plants [6]. By 2020 it is expected that, US datacentres

While reading the article, Zombies in the Workplace by Stephen Hacker, it has
come to my attention that I may be an infected zombie. I think it developed in the
workplace after some of the employees left with zombie like features. The previous
employees did not give much positive feedback to the new employees and that they
have told me that there isn t much advancement in the workplace. All the employees
were friends, but once they started to slowly go for a different job, the others started
to become lifeless.
They didn t care about what they were doing anymore. They started to cause friction
in the kitchen. Soon, the employees that started the zombie like featured were gone,
but the virus was still lingering in the air. Not all the employees are like this though.

Everyone seems to be immune to the virus because they try to make it fun in the
kitchen when the going gets tough. During the holidays for example, my boss
creates this thanksgiving pizza for everyone in the kitchen. Another example is
the gift exchange party they have. Everyone pulls a card out of the hat and gets
them the gift. When it s a really good day, there s a lot of goofing off in the kitchen.
Hacker s story and Nelson Quick s theories are related due to an emotional and
behavioral affect in the workplace. With Hacker s key steps to awakening the
zombie infected coworkers, it s like the moods and emotions from chapter 4 in
Organizational Behavior. The theory of emotional contagion is similar to the disease
that can spread throughout an organization. Since someone in the workplace can
spread their negative emotions to others, it can cause the organization to feel down.
As long as a positive emotion, mood, or spirit is around, there should be some sort of

1.Describe three (3) ways we can use macroeconomic analysis, with one (1) original
example for each way.
There are three principles that describe how the economy as a whole works. First, a
country s standard of living depends on its ability to produce goods and services.
Second, prices rise when the government prints too much money. Third society faces
a short run tradeoff between inflation and unemployment.
A country s standard of living depends on its ability to produce goods and services,
which in turn depends on its productivity. The productivity which is a function of the
education of workers and the access workers have to the necessary tools and ... Show

When productivity falls, the growth rate of real GDP turns negative as the
technological shock is felt throughout the economy. If the return on labor is less
after a technology shock, people will work less. People will substitute leisure time
for productivity time and unemployment will rise if labor rates cannot be reduced.
Output will also be affected by a negative technology shock. Reduced labor rates
will cause reduced demand for goods. Reduced rates for goods will cause financial
frictions and loan losses which could possibly restrict future credit supply.
2.Suppose you were interested in increasing technological progress in your country.
Suggest two (2) ways to do this.
Governments have long sought to subsidize technological growth as a way of
improving the standard of living for all of its citizens. Subsidizing private sector
invention, by protecting the effort through tax credits and patent protection, provides
incentives for new products and services to be brought to market. Supporting
innovation, allows for larger increases in the technological progress. Government tax
credits, patents, licenses to support the entrepreneurial effort are all techniques that
can positively support

Everyone knows that Buck is the protagonist of the story Call of the Wild .
Basically, the story is about him, his life, his experience and his journey. His life is
different from the others. It may not be a good life but it has a lesson, which a lot
of us should know and realize. After reading the story, would you like to meet
Buck if he was a person? What makes you feel like you want to meet him? What
good traits Buck had that you liked? Knowing Buck and his story made me feel
like I am very blessed and grateful that I have a family that takes care of me, and a
life that is not stolen from me. Buck is a very uncivilized or primitive dog, but he
can be very attentive sometimes. Here is a passage from the book that shows
evidence:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This trait of buck shows in this passage: And not only did he learn by experience,
but instincts long dead became alive again. The domesticated generations fell from
him. In vague ways he remembered back to the youth of the breed, to the time the
wild dogs ranged in packs through the primeval forest and killed their meat as they
ran it down. It was no task for him to learn to fight with cut and slash and the quick
wolf snap. In this manner had fought forgotten ancestors. They quickened the old
life within him, and the old tricks which they had stamped into the heredity of the
breed were his tricks. They came to him without effort or discovery, as though they
had been his always. And when, on the still cold nights, he pointed his nose at a
star and howled long and wolflike, it was his ancestors, dead and dust, pointing nose
at star and howling down through the centuries and through him. And his cadences
were their cadences, the cadences which voiced their woe and what to them was the
meaning of the stiffness, and the cold, and dark. In this passage Buck doesn t really
let his wild side to come up and devour him, because he still feels an intense
connection to some former, primitive version of himself, the dog he

With experience comes wisdom, and with wisdom comes the ability to think through
metacognition. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, Tim Hughes Wodwo , Samuel
Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner , and Percy Bysshe Shelley s

and suffering. However, in order to fully grasp the nature of metacognitionand its
effects on how people act, one must be familiar with the term.
Metacognition refers to higher order thinking which involves active control over the
cognitive processes engaged in learning. This process of thinking allows for one to

One experiment was conducted for this lab report on osmosis and diffusion and how

putting them into 4 cups with different levels of sucrose solution. After incubating
for two hours the potatoes were weighed again and the data was collected. The results

Osmosis is when water moves across cell membranes until both sides are balanced

(Campbell 105). Osmosis and diffusion is constantly happening throughout our cell
membranes keeping us healthy by diluting particles in high concentration. The cell
membrane, made up of a phospholipid bilayer, helps regulate what particles can get

19. The Effects Of Music Education On Mainstream Education
Essay
This research focuses on answering if music education has enough crossover benefit
to include it into our mainstream education. Two scholarly articles, a blog, a personal
story and an online article were selected and consulted to find the answer to this
question. Many authors in many articles had minimal criticism of musiceducationand
most were in favor of music education. Findings were that yes, music education does
in fact have enough crossover benefit to include it into mainstream education. Music
education may be time consuming and sometimes expensive, yet the benefits of self
discipline, deeper conceptual thinking, more developed brain function, and endless
creativity of students makes it very worthwhile.
Henry David Thoreau once stated, If a man does not keep pace with his
companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the
music which he hears, however measured or far away. People have different
perceptions about everything, but some statements are simply fact. Though fact
may be fact, opinion and perspective plays a huge role in our society, especially the
education side of society. Everyone on Earth has experienced music in some way,
but a question some have pondered is, does music education have enough crossover
benefit to academics to include it in our mainstream education? As we explore the
pages upon pages of research on this topic, it is to be found that music education
provides more than enough crossover
20. Use Of Cell Phones While Driving
Americans rely heavily on cell phones to perform daily activities. Cell phone are
used for phone calls, email, sending text messages, surfing the internet, and
performing other tasks. It is unfortunate that many of these daily activities occur
while a person is driving. As a result, an increase of accidents and fatalities have
occurred because of the use of cellular phones while driving. Using a cell phone
while driving is an epidemic that has taken our nation by storm. Most drivers
believe they can safely drive a motor vehicle while using their cell phones. The
United States government must put an end to the use of the cell phones while
operating a motor vehicle by taking action with laws prohibiting the use of these
devices while operating a motor vehicle. There are three main points which
supports the banning of cell phones while driving. First of all, by using the cell
phone while driving, the driver will experience visual distraction which takes the
driver s eyes off the road onto the cell phone. Secondly, the driver will experience a
physical distraction by having to release the steering wheel to attend to the cell
phone. Lastly, the driver will experience a mental distraction which takes the driver s
mind away from their full concentration on the road. By banning the complete use of
cell phones while driving a motor vehicle, our government would undoubtedly save
lives. Background Prior to cell phones, Americans never had to deal with the negative

Hearing the phrase, what does not kill you makes you stronger, can seem derogatory

and honor through battles and boasts. Little did he know, what tried to kill him, made

characters flows like a river throughout the ancient poem. Beginning the poem the

Nor was Beowulf s journey the first time it was taken. (1456 1461)
Beowulf s strength never quit until he knew his candle was to cease burning. He
would melt along with his precious sword, meaning the end of the sword s
journey. In the final battle against a dragon, Beowulf used his sword that was
handed down to him in battle. His sword was old, fragile, and thaw, just like him.
His sword that once ruled all of Geatland, now melted in his own hands when he
most needed it. He raised the remaining piece of Nagling, his iron sword and
smashed it into the beast. Sadly, his sword Broke to pieces, as iron always Had in

Geats great king would be no better for any weapon. (2682 2686)
The great king himself, who once enjoyed the company of a sword, now turned
against it as it has failed him. Many swords are given to different warriors for
protection and for a story to tell. Beowful s sword represented himself. A new sword
provided a new journey, while the melting of his own sword represented his
22. College Admissions Flaws
On top of exceptional students getting declined, prestigious schools are accepting less
qualified students such as legacies, athletes, and minorities, contributing to the flawed
system. Rather than admitting students based on their potential to succeed and
personal attributes alone, universities often admit slightly inferior candidates in order
to increase their diversity population and maintain a dedicated alumni. In A is For
Admission, Michele Hernandez mentions some of these discrepancies when
explaining that legacies, students with a parent who attended the university, have a
forty percent acceptance rate at Dartmouth in comparison with the typical ten percent
acceptance rate (183). Additionally, Hernandez further explains that athletes... Show

Starting in high school, students are not given equal opportunities to excel because of
family background. Furthermore, the admissions process itself has its flaws legacies,
minorities, and athletes are being chosen over exceptionally gifted valedictorians.
Even after college, the problems do not end; possible joblessness and student debt
are unavoidable. On top of these major problems, educators and parents continue to
convince kids everywhere that college is the only option to become successful,
and choosing another path is heavily looked down upon. The newest generation s
life is centered around the climax of college while at the same time, more and more
students are unable to attend universities because of cost or rejection, but this is a
paradox. The more high schoolers work hard, the more high schoolers will get
turned down to their dream schools, and the more the college admissions process
effectively become a lottery, leading to many highly talented, brilliant, creative
people thinking they re not (Robinson). The widespread college problem has no easy
fix, nor does it have a single solution. Rather than working to fix the unfixable, adults
must stop putting such emphasis on the college pathway, and instead stress that there
are other options. The future of the job world is unknown; there is no way to know if
an expensive college education is the right choice. College, with all of its flaws, is
just one option in preparing for the future; it is not necessarily the best. Therefore,
the single word, college, should stop dividing the academic from the non academic
or the successful from the unsuccessful, and instead be considered a single path in an
array of worthy
23. Benefits Of A Childbirth Plan
Having a childbirth plan can seem easy, but is it really? All women have different
experiences with their labor. There are many options for expecting mothers:
vaginal, natural, scheduled cesarean, unplanned cesarean, VBAC, and scheduled
induction. These options are don t always happen as they re planned, but are
necessary. The birthing plan depends what the mother is comfortable with. Before
any labor happens, the amniotic sac will most likely rupture before the baby is
born. This is usually called water breaking. Contractions should usually start at this
time. Contractions are the tightening and releasing of the uterus. This is helping
your body prepare for the birth. The cervix is under a change as well, by dilating
for the baby to be delivered. The cervical opening needs to reach 10cm for the baby
to pass through the birth canal. Having a Vaginal birth is unique for each mother and
baby. Some choose to have the delivery without pain management. This mother will
most likely experience pain and pressure. If a mother chooses to have an epidural,
pain management, the medication deadens nerves so you can t feel anything. The
mother may feel some slight pressure, but not much. The baby starts passing through
the cervix and the baby starts entering the vagina. The muscles stretch, the mother
may feel a burning sensation some call this the ring of fire . This is because the
mother s tissues are stretching around the baby s head. As the head emerges the
pressure will release.
24. Why Seat Belts Should Have Seatbelts
Seat belts should be required on school buses for a lot of foreseen reasons.
Seatbelts can make school buses so much safer in so many different ways. One
reason why seat belts should be required on school buses is that it will save students
lives. According to an article released by the Today show About 440,000 school
buses
carry 24 million kids each and every day during the school year, which can be
dangerous if the busgets in a crash. Undoubtedly, school buses should be required to
have seat belts if 24 million kids ride school buses each day. Furthermore, another
reason is it will get students to stay seated on the school buses . When students do
not stay seated on the bus and they are in awkward positions and in the aisle they
are more prone to facing severe injuries, maybe even, death . Adding on, if students
have seatbelts on, they will have to sit down because they can stand up with a
seatbelt on. Going even further, cameras can be on school buses just like the cameras
on the school buses in Glenwood Community School District. This will give a higher
chance of students getting punished and it can even result in a suspension off the
school busas little as 3 days and as long as the remainder of... Show more content on

An example of a rule, they will follow is, they will sit down at all times when the
bus is in motion. The reason why some say this is an example is because, students
won t be able to take off their seatbelts if the bus is in motion because it will make
it an extremely dangerous situation if the bus gets into a wreck because when the
police and the investigation team comes out and investigates the crash they can say,
this person was in an awkward position. Or even, perhaps, they can say they weren t
wearing a seatbelt and the student can get into a lot of trouble because the police
have that power. That s why one of many reasons some say, seatbelts should be
required on school

26. What Happens When He Found The Camp Analysis
At the end of the story, I think what happens is that the story will repeat itself,
because at the end Alfred says the exact same thing at the beginning, does it in the
same setting and also the boys who came out of the chute do the same thing as the
guys in the beginning. Also, it says Carl is the tallest, and he pairs with Alfred, the
boy who found the camp, who is almost as tall. He is muscular too, in a way none
of the other boys are muscular. Because they are tall and strong, they easily seemed
like the leaders. (Cook 239) meaning that they could have been in the place outside
the chute for a long time and have become cannibals. I noticed that in two different
places in the story, it says that Alfred smiles at the main characterthrough the flicker

main character says We are charmed boys. (Cook 240) and once at the very end

When Alfred first suggests eating Davey, the other boys are first reluctant and
then guiltily agree because they couldn t think clearly with their stomachs so
empty. This leads to easier consensus within the boys to continue the cannibalism
and goes as far as to have Alfred eaten almost all 13 other boys. I think Alfred
symbolizes the voice in your head encouraging you to not do the right thing and
instead do the wrong thing or the less morally right because he always encourages
the other boys to do cannibalism and I think even goes so far as to kill Davey by
twisting his neck in the other direction and pretend that he died by himself. (Cook

What do the Starling, a lovely songbird that fills the air with their joyous tunes, the
Asian carp, a symbol of prosperity and longevity in many Asian cultures, and the
Norway maple, a smoke and dust resistant tree have in common? They are
merciless invaders, massacring native plants, devouring crops, and decimating
aquatic flora and fauna. The Starling, first introduced in a flock of 60, now travel
in massive hordes up to 1 million strong. These massive groups can consume 20
tons of potatoes, rattling a farmer s income during harvest. The Norway maple
displaces native plant species. Finally, perhaps the deadliest, most ruthless invader,
the Asian carp, was introduced in the 1900 s to control parasite and weed growth.
Today, the out of control fish out compete other fish, and are believed to lower water
quality, therefore killing off sensitive organisms such as native mussels. These fish
are threatening the Great Lakes, as they are slowly moving north through the
Mississippi river. The Asian carp would kill off native fish, wrecking the $7 billion a

28. Pros And Cons Of The Great Migration
The Great Migration North: An Economic Endeavor For the United States of
America, a large portion of the twentieth century, 1910 to 1970, was characterized by
African American movement from the rural South to the urban, industrial North.
During this time, known as the Great Migration, millions of southern blacks moved
to the North in hopes of a better future, away from the Jim Crow South where they
were under constant threat by white supremacist values and endured an unequal
treatment from whites even after Emancipation. However, the principal motive for
the blacks of the rural South to leave their homes, families, and friends for the urban

capabilities as a worker. Because they were able to sell 150,000 to 300,000 copies
per issue, many people were able to learn about job opportunities in the North. In
addition to the work of the labor agents and the black press, an extensive network of
family and friends furthered the desire to migrate North. Members of the community
would talk in barber shops and grocery stores to learn about transportation, jobs, and
housing in the North. Letters, money, and accounts from those who returned to visit
the South also gave them an idea of what their future could look like if they choose
to migrate to the North. Some formed migration clubs to pool their resources and
move in groups to the North while others saved up enough money to send one family
member up North, expecting them to make enough money to send the rest of the
family up. The dream of moving up North for a better future could not have been so
popular, had there not been communication between members of the community and

29. Point Of View In Delia Jones s Sweat
The character roles and point of view played a big role in this story. The point of
view in this story is third person omniscient. Third person omniscient is a method
of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all of the
characters in the story. The narrator in Sweat is in smack in the middle of the hot,
sweaty action of the story. While she obviously knows central Florida locals and
their way of life, her voice is starkly different from that of the characters. This gives
us a mixture of clear, formal narration with colloquial dialogue that reads just like a
convo between real life people. We think it s nothing short of genius. If Sweat were
only written in formal language, it d be drier than Florida summer grass; if it were
pages of central Florida folk chatting with their thick slang, we d probably go crazy.

American corporate designers were learned in Modernist theory, but nevertheless

The consumer society of the 1950s was presented with machines such as fruit
juicers, coffee makers, vacuum cleaners and toasters that eliminated the burden of
manual tasks and increased leisure options. Designers and manufacturers continued
to appeal to the consumer s aspirations, by producing streamlined forward looking
products, targeting the American dream . In the USA the majority of people
aspired for such things as a secure job in a large corporation, a house in a nice
suburb, a large family, a large car, and an array of labour saving devices. Designers
and Manufacturers targeted this new generation of homemakers and consumers.8

Bebop is the first stylistic shift the represented the movement away from the current
jazz, the Swing. In this style of music, the chord usage becomes lot more complex
using extensions such as 9th, 11th, and 13ths but also the flatted 5ths. Improvisation
has also been greatly developed. The improvers now used the underlying chords as
their basis of improvisation with combination to virtuosic quick notes in a successful
complex rhythm. Jam session is another important aspect in Bebop as this is where
the young and old musicians informally gather together to play their own ideas of Jazz
, not the standard way of the Swings.

The difference between black men s writings and black women s writing is seen in

women try to show link their writing to family and community (Stover 133 154).
The difference between Douglass and Harriet Ann Jacobs can also be seen when
Cutter asserted While Douglass uses gaps in his text to maintain authority over the
actual narrative, Jacobs creates gaps or deficiencies in her text to disperse the
author s authority, sharing it with her readers (Cutter 224). Jacobs asks her readers
for their sympathy because they don t know what she and many other slaves had
to experience. Stover shows us that Harriet Ann Jacobs describes herself as a
victim of circumstance, pleading for pity and assistance, and as a discerning actor
who exercises significant control over nearly impossible condition (Stover 939).
She was able to bring light because no one really talked about the sexual abuse that
black women experienced. Jacobs exposes the assumptions of abolitionist discourse,
and ancillary sentimental forms, not by definitively rejecting them, but by
elaborating them from within. (Nudelman 941). Yellin says that Jacobs s book
centers on the figure of a woman struggling to break her own chains (Nudelman

impossible.
Only theories, some more plausible than another, can offer answers to why people

The Canadian senior housing market is very broad, both economically and

senior housing, resulting in benefits and disadvantages of each type. The senior
housing market has had many changes over the past few years, due to the influx of

Justice is often taken for granted in the world we live in today with a judicial
system that gives fair punishment for most crimes. In the Oresteia justice works
much differently, where there are no judges or a court system to resolve disputes,
instead there is revenge. Revenge is very messy because somebody will and has to
get hurt first to desire revenge, and it leads to a cycle that cannot and will not end

Clytemnestra also gives her justification for murdering her husband, and for ten long
years she thought about how sweet revenge would be when Agamemnon arrived. She
also tells her lover, Aegisthus, Our lives are based on pain (1690). Clytemnestra
does not realize how ironic her statement will be later on when pain controls her.
Aegisthus sums up their code of justice when he says, There are gods in heaven
avenging men, / blazing down on all the crimes of earth (1607 1608). He also is
foreshadowing that his crime must also be paid for and he will suffer the
consequences of killing Agamemnon and revenge. Aegisthus does not realize it,
but Orestes is seeking revenge upon him and his for the death of Agamemnon.
After Orestes kills them, there is nobody left alive to kill him to avenge their
deaths. Clytemnestra invokes the Furies who seek revenge for anybody who has
nobody to seek it for them. The Furies chase Orestes to Apollo s temple where
Orestes asks him for forgiveness, Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice,
/ know them well. Now learn compassion (88 89). Orestes is the first person who is
trying to change the system and realizes it must be changed for the gods and the
Furies to spare his life. Revenge as justice has one major problem,

Abstract/Summary
In this experiment the SI and English standard measurement systems were used to
learn how to convert one unit of measurement to another through the use of
measurement instrumentation. A centimeter ruler was used to measure both
inanimate objects such as a lab table, and a window as well as body measurements
on multiple people within the group. The measurements were used in finding the
perimeter, area and volume of each of the objects. This experiment taught how to
express scientific figures for data and results. As multiple measurements were taken
precision and accuracy became greater. This data was used to determine ratios and
percent errors.

46. Universal Set of Principles in the Field of Accounting Essay
Introduction
A principle is defined as a rule, or even an idea that forms the basis of deciding
what is wrong and what is right in context to our actions. As opposed to principles,
we all have our own personal practices and traditions, which determine our behavior
in the society. These practices are determined from our culture, society, ancestors,
experiences and religion etc. But since we live in a world where every person has
their own set of practices and traditions, we cannot expect to live the way we want
and this is where rules and principles come in. The very foundations of any principle
are built upon its underlying morals, ethics and laws, which are expected to be
accepted universally (Chippendale, 2001).
A society may have its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The paper then evaluates International Accounting Standards Board s (IASB)
attempts to develop a conceptual framework and the current state. In the final section
I will discuss and reflect upon the evidence presented to support the topic of this
essay along with a conclusion of facts and ideas presented.
The need for a conceptual framework
As we can understand from above that one person s principle cannot necessarily be
another one s too; there needs to be an independent body, which can produce
universally acceptable principles to resolve matters systematically and uniformly.
When we talk about the introduction of a universal set of principles in the field of
accounting, it was the famous stock crash of 1929, which wreaked havoc in the
financial markets around the globe and created a situation where the need for
generally accepted accounting principles was felt the most! (Lawrence et al, 1993).
The resulting economic downturn, which lasted until 1939, was one of the gravest
depressions ever recorded in the history and a lack of universal accounting standards
was blamed to be one of the reasons for over valuation of stocks and overtrading.
Although the depression arose in the United States but output losses, deflation and
job cuts were observed all over the globe (Romer, 2003). Between these times the
accounting profession started to promote the idea of independent audits and

Theoretical Assumptions: There are five identified stages that students move through
on their way to becoming conventional spellers: emergent spelling, letter name
alphabetic spelling, within word patters spelling, syllables and affixes spelling, and
derivational relations spelling. At each stage, students use different strategies and
focus on particular aspects of spelling.
Words Their Way is an instructional approach and a wonderful addition to word study.
It provides a practical way to study words with students. Using Words Their Way
gives teachers a great understanding of their individual students by knowing your
students literacy development, organize for instruction, and implement word study.

She is becoming a great problem solver. Her main problem solving strategy is
sounding out. Mesiah will try and sound out each individual sound out loud and
then she will try and pronounce the word as whole to the best of her ability. She is
also beginning to self monitor as she is reading and writing. She is thinking about
what she writing. She will double check to see if what word she is spelling looks
right and sounds right. At times she will refer back to a word at a later time when
the correct spelling may come to her. Mesiah really likes asking for help as well. I
love to assist Mesiah because I know she does not always get the one on one
instruction on a regular basis. And I know that is really what she needs.
Instructional Plan:
Based on my assessments, I have developed the following instructional goals in the
areas of reading, writing, and spelling. Each instruction made is intended to
strengthen her skills and strategies and accelerate Mesiah in these specific areas.
I will focus on Mesiah s strengths. The best way I found to do this is by creating a
positive, engaging, and relatable practice for her in the same type of learning
environment.
I will continue to focus on sight words, reading, and spelling. I will do this by
administering spelling inventories found in Words Their Way, informal spelling
assessments based off of weekly spelling words, inventories, and sight words, and
spelling checks

49. Patient Grievance Research Paper
When it comes to managing a successful organization or a business, the one
consumer whose opinions and relations matter would have to lie in the customer. In
the case of medical services those affairs would lie mostly in the actions and
satisfactions of the patients. In the medical community, their ratings and
performances are measured through the customer relations departments. Grievances
and complaints have shaped the world of medical policies, procedures, terms of
conduct and response to grievances.
There are a variety of reasons in which a grievance would be filed against a Physician
, and one of the most filed complaints would lie in the disagreements between patient
and their physicians. One of the most common ways a patient would file ... Show

There is a line however that can be crossed when negligence then becomes a
criminal conduct. To cross the line from civil to criminal negligence there has to be
a gross deviation from the standard of care. This is where the importance of the
standard of care comes into play, this is where the jury finds that the physician could
be held under negligence. The American Medical Association has a strong values
against negligence, although they are opposed to the prosecution of that negligence,
the AMA however concedes that the recklessness in conduct should be criminally
culpable. When it comes to criminal negligence, civil liability is met, in this case the
claim allows the patient to receive compensation for their injuries and it also gives
the physician the chance to remodel their standards of care without having to face the
penalties of a prison term (London Amburn Attorneys at Law,

Comparing Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos and Cruel Intentions the
Movie
It is my intention to compare the book, Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos,
to its modern movie version, Cruel Intentions starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. I intend
to examine how the original French text was modified in reference to plot, character,
morals/values, and themes. I also plan to discuss how these transformations change
the meaning of the story and reflect different cultural/historical contexts. There are
some major differences between these two works, if only because of when they were
written. First, the plots of both works need to be discussed and explained how they
are different. The stories of both works have basically the same ... Show more content

Cecile directly gets revenge on Catherine. In Dangerous Liaisons, she does not. This
also relates to cultural context. It shows how more independent women are in the
modern world. In Dangerous Liaisons, Tourvel dies of misery and Cecile goes into
the convent. This shows that women were much weaker and less independent in
society in the late 1700s. The last scene in the movie shows Annette driving off in
Sebastian s expensive car. This is a typical ending to a modern story. In the book, her
character dies, but in the movie, she is the vengeful, independent woman. It is
apparent that the morals and values of both works change because of their cultural
and historical context. Dangerous Liaisons was basically written to teach young
women in society what not to do. This kind of literature was looked down upon at the
time it was written.
In 1824 a decree of the cour royale de Paris condemned it to be destroyed as
dangerous . This verdict remained the official one throughout the later nineteenth
century. The book was spoken of only to be deplored: a picture of the most odious
immortality, that should never have been revealed even supposing it had been true ,
a work of revolting immorality , a book to be admired and execrated . (Laclos, p. 7)
It was considered to be an immoral book. The movie was made mainly for
entertainment purposes. Since we basically live in an immoral society, it was well
accepted as a good movie. Although the schemes that Catherine

Laura Ingalls Wilder was an important and inspiring pioneer author. She inspired
many children and adults around the world. Not only is her writing important, but
her life was also very inspiring. She lived through many hard things, yet Laura
never gave up. Her books tell about her life in a miraculous way, and they inspire
others to be like her. Laura s Childhood Laura s childhood was very adventurous
and sometimes even dangerous. She moved numerous times, occasionally in the
middle of nowhere and at one point she even lived in the ground! Laura s family
struggled at times, yet they ultimately lived a decent life. Her childhood was very
different than ours is now, but Laura still enjoyed playing and having fun! Laura

The family was hoping to settle in the West. It was a long journey, and the Ingalls
could only pack a few things. With their covered wagon filled, the family started
out to Minnesota. Laura s Uncle Peter and Aunt Eliza also joined them on the
journey, although they planned to settle in the Eastern part of Minnesota. Laura
remembers her long covered wagon journey and what they went through. The
family traveled very far: crossing town after town. They passed Lake City, where
the Ingalls stayed for a few nights. After that, they traveled near the Zumbro River,
where Uncle Peter and Aunt Eliza settled. Laura, Mary, Carrie, Ma, and Pa
continued on their journey, determined to find the perfect homestead. The family
finally reached Walnut Grove, a small town in Western Minnesota. Pa then bought
172 acres of land from a Norwegian settler who was planning to travel. The prairie
land stretched among Plum Creek and wasn t too far from town. The Ingall s
family lived in a small dugout house, dug from right out of the bank of Plum
Creek! The Ingalls family had a great start! The family soon had a log house, which
Pa had built with lumber sent by the railroad. The family was very happy. Laura
and Mary went to school, made friends, and often played in the creek. Pa s crops
were growing great, and the family was happy with the town and
52. The Meaning Of Normality And Nonconformity
This paper will discuss the definition of normal and how it has changed in time;
one thing that remains the same is how the meaning has revolutionized our present
society. Statisticians and eugenicists Adolphe Quetelet, Sir Francis Galton, Charles
Darwin, and Madame Bovary have provided statistical data to support what the
meaning stands for and how it came into existence whether in agreement or
apprehension on the matter. People with disabilities have been in the mix of
dealing with the controversial laws and theories that have preceded them. In the
book the disability studies reader the different approaches used to create the
meaning of normal as part of the human body are argued in America and Europe.
Historical Perspectives of Disability Evaluation of Normalcy The definition of
normal has changed within time, in the 1800 s it meant perpendicular in relation to
what a carpenter would call it the norm. According to Davis the meaning changed
around the year 1840 1855 to be seen as the notion of the ideal of the human body.
Normal is defined by Davis as nonconformity from the shared, ordinary or customary
ways of living. A Greek artist Zeuxies explains how the ideal body helped shape the
thought of normalcy. In the creation of the nude goddess Aphrodite her ideal body
parts were taken from several different women in Crotona. Her face and breasts as the
combination unattainable standards of the human body. The perception normalcy
was created as unattainable ideal no

In the novel The Maze Runner, there are many internal and external conflicts that
occurs throughout it. The main external conflict, would be how Thomas and the
rest of the Gladers are trying to find their way out of the maze. This conflict was a
struggle all the way to the end of the novel because every night the maze changed
its puzzle. Therefor they could not find their way through. Every night the gates
would close, keeping the Glades in a safe place and the grievers inside the maze.
Another external conflict would be the events occurring outside of the maze. No one
on the outside seems to be able to figure out how to get the solar flares from the sun
to stop hitting the earth. Wicked leave it up to the kids in the maze to figure out how
