Types of Conveyors
When it comes to transporting materials, there are a lot of different options. You can use an
overhead conveyor system or an underfloor conveying system, for example. Some materials are
better suited to one type of conveyor than another, depending on how heavy or fragile they are.
In this article, we’ll explore all the different types of conveyor systems so that you know what’s
best for your needs!
Aero-mechanical conveyors
Aero-mechanical conveyors are used for transporting parts and materials in the aerospace
industry. They can be configured as a single or multi-lane system to meet your specific needs.
Automotive conveyors
Automotive conveyors are used for transporting parts and tools. They’re a common sight in car
manufacturing, where they can be pneumatically or mechanically driven, single or double belt
systems, and have a variety of different belt types. Car manufacturing is just one example of
how these machines are able to handle large amounts of product at once.
Belt conveyor
Belt conveyors are one of the most common types of conveyors and are used to transport bulk
materials at low speeds. Belt conveyors can be utilized in a wide range of applications,
including:
● Material handling in industrial processes
● Bulk material transportation
● Mining operations
Belt conveyor systems consist of three main components: the belt, drive units, and an enclosed
housing or support structure. The belt is made from either rubber or plastic material (nylon) that
runs along two pulleys with a continuous groove between them. The drive units are
motors/generators which push or pull against the belt to move it forward through the system. A
belt conveyor system may include a number of belts running parallel to each other; some may
have multiple levels in order to increase capacity or heighten efficiency depending on
application needs.
Belt-driven live roller conveyors
Belts are one of the most common types of conveyor systems. They can run in either direction,
and they’re used for a variety of applications, including food and beverage processing,
packaging, and conveyance equipment manufacturing.
Bucket conveyor
A bucket conveyor is a type of system that moves materials using a series of buckets that are
mounted on a chain, belt, or wire mesh belt. The buckets are typically designed to hold a
specific amount of material and are often used in conjunction with other kinds of conveyors.
Bucket conveyors can be used for moving bulk goods like sand, grain, or gravel from one point
to another. They’re also commonly found in manufacturing plants where they’re used for feeding
materials into production processes such as molding plastic parts or mixing chemicals together.
Chain conveyor
Chain conveyors are used for the transportation of large amounts of small parts. They are often
found in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and other industries that produce small items such
as pills or screws.
Chain conveyor systems can be fitted with a variety of different components depending on your
needs:
● A transfer device can be used to move products from one belt to another. This is common
when two conveyors need to work together at different speeds or heights.
● An elevator is sometimes used instead of an inclined plane during a change in elevation
(such as going upstairs). The elevator allows you to control how fast each product moves
through the system by regulating its speed manually through a hand crank or motorized
controller. It also allows operators greater control over where the product ends up inside
your facility once it has reached its destination.”
Chain-driven live roller conveyor
A chain-driven live roller conveyor is a type of conveyor system. Chain-driven live roller
conveyors are used for transporting materials over long distances in warehouses and
manufacturing plants, as well as in the transportation industry.
Chain-driven live roller conveyors consist of a web of moving chains that carry bins or other
containers on their lifting surface. The lifting surfaces are either stationary or moveable with
respect to each other, depending on whether they are fixed or adjustable.
The chains function as both a guide rail and a drive mechanism, with two sets of rollers attached
at each end: one set moves vertically while the other moves horizontally. Adjustments can be
made to these components so that they can accommodate various types of material being
transported within them (i.e., if you want more room between your cargo).
Drag conveyor
Drag conveyors are used to transporting materials over long distances. They’re also used to
move materials over short distances, and they can even be used to move materials over
medium distances, depending on the situation. Drag conveyors are generally utilized when
transporting materials across long distances because they’re the best option for that purpose.
Dust-proof conveyors
Dust-proof conveyors are used to moving powdery materials, such as food ingredients,
pharmaceutical products, and chemicals. In the food and chemical industries, they are called
“air-fed” or “air-assisted” conveyors.
Dust-proof conveyors are used in a variety of applications including:
● Bulk solids handling for the food industry
● Dry powder transport for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries
Electric track vehicle systems
Electric track vehicle systems: These types of conveyor systems are used to move loads in
industrial settings, where noise and exhaust fumes are a problem. Electric track vehicle systems
are often found in factories or warehouses, and they can be used to move loads around the
warehouse.
Electric motors power electric track vehicles, which may be tracked on rails or rubber tires that
run on the floor. The motors have low maintenance requirements when compared with other
types of conveyors, making them ideal for use in dusty or corrosive environments where
water-based lubricants would not perform well
Flexible conveyors
Flexible conveyors are used when the product to be conveyed is not rigid. They’re available in a
variety of materials, including plastics and fabrics. Flexible conveyors can also be extremely
long, allowing them to transport products from one location to another without requiring the
entire length of the conveyor system to be set up at once.
Flexible conveyor systems are used in a variety of industries, but they are most common in food
processing plants and manufacturing facilities where products like cheese or chocolate must be
transported over large distances without being damaged by being dropped onto hard surfaces
(which could happen if you were putting an item on top of a fixed rail).
Gravity conveyor
Gravity conveyors are used to move material in a gravity-fed system. There is no power
required for this type of conveyor, and the material moves through the conveyor by gravity
alone. Each section of the conveyor is typically comprised of rollers or wheels that help move
the product along.
Gravity skate wheel conveyor
The conveyor is gravity-powered and has a smooth surface. The wheels are made of rubber
and are mounted on a frame. The frame is supported by two guide rails. A special belt is used to
connect the skates to the shafts of the wheels.
The system can be used in any industry where there is a need for moving materials from one
place to another, including food manufacturing plants and warehouses.
Lineshaft roller conveyor
A lineshaft roller conveyor is a belt conveyor with rollers. This type of conveyor is used for
transporting bulky items that need to be lifted and lowered during transport. It is also used to
elevate products for inspection or cleaning purposes.
Lineshaft roller conveyors can be made from several different materials, including steel,
aluminum, stainless steel, or rubber-coated steel. They can have either a single or double guide
rail system depending on the application requirements. The main design difference between
single and double guide rail systems is the absence of center support in the latter type of line
shaft technology due to its capability of supporting itself without additional support structures
when there’s no load on it (i.e., empty).
Motorized-drive roller conveyor
A motorized-drive roller conveyor uses a motor to drive the chain and pulley arrangement on the
roller conveyor. This is a popular choice for high-production manufacturing lines, as it can be
programmed to run at variable speeds for each product type. However, it does require more
maintenance than some of the other options because it has so many moving parts.
Chain-driven live roller conveyors are typically used in situations where there is little or no space
available for the installation of an overhead power line. The chain drives that connect each
section of rollers work independently from one another and are powered by an electric motor
located underneath each section of rollers – so you won’t need access above your conveyor
system in order to fix any issues with them!
Overhead I-beam conveyors
Overhead I-beam conveyors can be used in a variety of applications, including the food and
beverage industry, pharmaceutical industry, and chemical industry. They are often placed on
overhead structures such as buildings or warehouses to allow for maximum space utilization.
I-beam conveyors utilize an overhead pulley system that supports the weight of the loads being
carried by the conveyor. The I-beam structure is ideal for this type of application due to its ability
to resist bending forces from both directions at once (compared to V-shaped beams). This
means your products won’t get crushed or damaged as they’re carried along your system!
Overland conveyor
Overland conveyor systems are used in mining, construction, and other industries to transport
materials over hilly terrain. Overland conveyors consist of a continuous belt or chain that moves
material across the length of the system, with gravity providing the energy to move it.
Overland conveyors can be used at sites where there is an incline or steep grade that flat-bed
trucks cannot traverse. Overland conveyors are also useful in situations where there are heavy
loads that need to be moved several miles away from their origin point, such as when
transporting lumber down a mountainside after being cut by loggers
Pharmaceutical conveyors
Pharmaceutical conveyors are used to transporting pharmaceutical products and supplies.
These conveyors are designed to ensure the safety of all workers involved in the production of
drugs. They also help prevent contamination from occurring during transportation and storage
by reducing the amount of human contact with sensitive materials.
A pharmaceutical conveyor system is an assembly that moves materials from point A to point B,
while also controlling access to each component along its path. This design provides a
continuous flow along a closed system that allows for easy control over where material can
enter or exit at any given time.
Plastic belt conveyors
Plastic belt conveyors are great for transporting bulk materials. The belt is made from plastic
and is less likely to break than a metal chain, which makes them easier to maintain and clean.
They’re also cheaper than chain conveyors, lighter in weight, and quieter in operation.
Pneumatic conveyors
Pneumatic conveyors are used to transporting a wide range of materials, including:
● bulk materials such as grain, pellets, and food products
● products that need to be kept cool or warm
Screw or auger conveyor
A screw conveyor is a type of conveyor that moves bulk materials using the principle of
Archimedes’ screw. A screw conveyor is a system of interlocking helical flights which transport
material from one point to another. The flights are designed so that they can be rotated by an
external force (e.g., hydraulic), hence the name “screw”.
The advantages of this type of conveyor include:
● It is simple and easy to maintain
● it can handle large bulky objects as well as smaller pieces
● It has a high capacity
● There are no seals or lubrication required
Spiral conveyors
● Moving materials or people up and down stairs
● Transporting materials and people horizontally
One of the most common types of conveyors, spiral conveyors are versatile machines that can
be used to transport objects around a building. A spiral conveyor is an open-topped device with
one or more levels of treads that move in a single direction around a central column. The object
being transported moves along these treads through their own weight and gravity, driven by
rollers at either end. Spiral units are typically powered by electric motors located near the center
of rotation.
Vertical conveyors
A vertical conveyor is a mechanical device that is used to transport materials from one point to
another. Vertical conveyors are typically used for transporting heavy loads, such as steel and
cement. These types of systems are designed with several different components, including a
drive motor, chain or belt and supporting structure. The drive motor provides the energy
required to move the load vertically through the system. The chain or belt runs over several
pulleys at different points along its length and transfers this motion down into a lower conveyor
belt that moves items horizontally across factory floors or warehouse and storage areas.
Vibrating conveyors
Vibrating conveyors are used in a variety of industries, including food, pharmaceutical and
chemical. They are typically used to transport powders, granules and other materials.
Vibrating conveyors are often used in the pharmaceutical industry to transport drugs during
production or packaging processes. In this case, the vibrating motion helps break up larger
pieces into smaller pieces so they can be easily dispensed into vials or syringes at the end of
their journey down a pipeline.
There are many options for different types of
conveying systems.
There are many options for different types of conveying systems. Conveyors can be used in
numerous industries and applications, including:
● Food production
● Mining
● Shipping and receiving operations
● Waste management facilities
The most important thing is to choose a system that works best for your company, whether it be
an electric-driven roller or a gravity skate wheel. With so many different kinds available, you’re

Types of Conveyors.pdf

  • 1. Types of Conveyors When it comes to transporting materials, there are a lot of different options. You can use an overhead conveyor system or an underfloor conveying system, for example. Some materials are better suited to one type of conveyor than another, depending on how heavy or fragile they are. In this article, we’ll explore all the different types of conveyor systems so that you know what’s best for your needs! Aero-mechanical conveyors Aero-mechanical conveyors are used for transporting parts and materials in the aerospace industry. They can be configured as a single or multi-lane system to meet your specific needs. Automotive conveyors Automotive conveyors are used for transporting parts and tools. They’re a common sight in car manufacturing, where they can be pneumatically or mechanically driven, single or double belt systems, and have a variety of different belt types. Car manufacturing is just one example of how these machines are able to handle large amounts of product at once.
  • 2. Belt conveyor Belt conveyors are one of the most common types of conveyors and are used to transport bulk materials at low speeds. Belt conveyors can be utilized in a wide range of applications, including: ● Material handling in industrial processes ● Bulk material transportation ● Mining operations Belt conveyor systems consist of three main components: the belt, drive units, and an enclosed housing or support structure. The belt is made from either rubber or plastic material (nylon) that runs along two pulleys with a continuous groove between them. The drive units are motors/generators which push or pull against the belt to move it forward through the system. A belt conveyor system may include a number of belts running parallel to each other; some may have multiple levels in order to increase capacity or heighten efficiency depending on application needs. Belt-driven live roller conveyors Belts are one of the most common types of conveyor systems. They can run in either direction, and they’re used for a variety of applications, including food and beverage processing, packaging, and conveyance equipment manufacturing. Bucket conveyor A bucket conveyor is a type of system that moves materials using a series of buckets that are mounted on a chain, belt, or wire mesh belt. The buckets are typically designed to hold a specific amount of material and are often used in conjunction with other kinds of conveyors. Bucket conveyors can be used for moving bulk goods like sand, grain, or gravel from one point to another. They’re also commonly found in manufacturing plants where they’re used for feeding materials into production processes such as molding plastic parts or mixing chemicals together. Chain conveyor Chain conveyors are used for the transportation of large amounts of small parts. They are often
  • 3. found in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and other industries that produce small items such as pills or screws. Chain conveyor systems can be fitted with a variety of different components depending on your needs: ● A transfer device can be used to move products from one belt to another. This is common when two conveyors need to work together at different speeds or heights. ● An elevator is sometimes used instead of an inclined plane during a change in elevation (such as going upstairs). The elevator allows you to control how fast each product moves through the system by regulating its speed manually through a hand crank or motorized controller. It also allows operators greater control over where the product ends up inside your facility once it has reached its destination.” Chain-driven live roller conveyor A chain-driven live roller conveyor is a type of conveyor system. Chain-driven live roller conveyors are used for transporting materials over long distances in warehouses and manufacturing plants, as well as in the transportation industry. Chain-driven live roller conveyors consist of a web of moving chains that carry bins or other containers on their lifting surface. The lifting surfaces are either stationary or moveable with respect to each other, depending on whether they are fixed or adjustable. The chains function as both a guide rail and a drive mechanism, with two sets of rollers attached at each end: one set moves vertically while the other moves horizontally. Adjustments can be made to these components so that they can accommodate various types of material being transported within them (i.e., if you want more room between your cargo). Drag conveyor Drag conveyors are used to transporting materials over long distances. They’re also used to move materials over short distances, and they can even be used to move materials over medium distances, depending on the situation. Drag conveyors are generally utilized when transporting materials across long distances because they’re the best option for that purpose. Dust-proof conveyors
  • 4. Dust-proof conveyors are used to moving powdery materials, such as food ingredients, pharmaceutical products, and chemicals. In the food and chemical industries, they are called “air-fed” or “air-assisted” conveyors. Dust-proof conveyors are used in a variety of applications including: ● Bulk solids handling for the food industry ● Dry powder transport for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries Electric track vehicle systems Electric track vehicle systems: These types of conveyor systems are used to move loads in industrial settings, where noise and exhaust fumes are a problem. Electric track vehicle systems are often found in factories or warehouses, and they can be used to move loads around the warehouse. Electric motors power electric track vehicles, which may be tracked on rails or rubber tires that run on the floor. The motors have low maintenance requirements when compared with other types of conveyors, making them ideal for use in dusty or corrosive environments where water-based lubricants would not perform well Flexible conveyors Flexible conveyors are used when the product to be conveyed is not rigid. They’re available in a variety of materials, including plastics and fabrics. Flexible conveyors can also be extremely long, allowing them to transport products from one location to another without requiring the entire length of the conveyor system to be set up at once. Flexible conveyor systems are used in a variety of industries, but they are most common in food processing plants and manufacturing facilities where products like cheese or chocolate must be transported over large distances without being damaged by being dropped onto hard surfaces (which could happen if you were putting an item on top of a fixed rail). Gravity conveyor Gravity conveyors are used to move material in a gravity-fed system. There is no power required for this type of conveyor, and the material moves through the conveyor by gravity
  • 5. alone. Each section of the conveyor is typically comprised of rollers or wheels that help move the product along. Gravity skate wheel conveyor The conveyor is gravity-powered and has a smooth surface. The wheels are made of rubber and are mounted on a frame. The frame is supported by two guide rails. A special belt is used to connect the skates to the shafts of the wheels. The system can be used in any industry where there is a need for moving materials from one place to another, including food manufacturing plants and warehouses. Lineshaft roller conveyor A lineshaft roller conveyor is a belt conveyor with rollers. This type of conveyor is used for transporting bulky items that need to be lifted and lowered during transport. It is also used to elevate products for inspection or cleaning purposes. Lineshaft roller conveyors can be made from several different materials, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, or rubber-coated steel. They can have either a single or double guide rail system depending on the application requirements. The main design difference between single and double guide rail systems is the absence of center support in the latter type of line shaft technology due to its capability of supporting itself without additional support structures when there’s no load on it (i.e., empty). Motorized-drive roller conveyor A motorized-drive roller conveyor uses a motor to drive the chain and pulley arrangement on the roller conveyor. This is a popular choice for high-production manufacturing lines, as it can be programmed to run at variable speeds for each product type. However, it does require more maintenance than some of the other options because it has so many moving parts. Chain-driven live roller conveyors are typically used in situations where there is little or no space available for the installation of an overhead power line. The chain drives that connect each section of rollers work independently from one another and are powered by an electric motor located underneath each section of rollers – so you won’t need access above your conveyor system in order to fix any issues with them!
  • 6. Overhead I-beam conveyors Overhead I-beam conveyors can be used in a variety of applications, including the food and beverage industry, pharmaceutical industry, and chemical industry. They are often placed on overhead structures such as buildings or warehouses to allow for maximum space utilization. I-beam conveyors utilize an overhead pulley system that supports the weight of the loads being carried by the conveyor. The I-beam structure is ideal for this type of application due to its ability to resist bending forces from both directions at once (compared to V-shaped beams). This means your products won’t get crushed or damaged as they’re carried along your system! Overland conveyor Overland conveyor systems are used in mining, construction, and other industries to transport materials over hilly terrain. Overland conveyors consist of a continuous belt or chain that moves material across the length of the system, with gravity providing the energy to move it. Overland conveyors can be used at sites where there is an incline or steep grade that flat-bed trucks cannot traverse. Overland conveyors are also useful in situations where there are heavy loads that need to be moved several miles away from their origin point, such as when transporting lumber down a mountainside after being cut by loggers Pharmaceutical conveyors Pharmaceutical conveyors are used to transporting pharmaceutical products and supplies. These conveyors are designed to ensure the safety of all workers involved in the production of drugs. They also help prevent contamination from occurring during transportation and storage by reducing the amount of human contact with sensitive materials. A pharmaceutical conveyor system is an assembly that moves materials from point A to point B, while also controlling access to each component along its path. This design provides a continuous flow along a closed system that allows for easy control over where material can enter or exit at any given time. Plastic belt conveyors Plastic belt conveyors are great for transporting bulk materials. The belt is made from plastic and is less likely to break than a metal chain, which makes them easier to maintain and clean.
  • 7. They’re also cheaper than chain conveyors, lighter in weight, and quieter in operation. Pneumatic conveyors Pneumatic conveyors are used to transporting a wide range of materials, including: ● bulk materials such as grain, pellets, and food products ● products that need to be kept cool or warm Screw or auger conveyor A screw conveyor is a type of conveyor that moves bulk materials using the principle of Archimedes’ screw. A screw conveyor is a system of interlocking helical flights which transport material from one point to another. The flights are designed so that they can be rotated by an external force (e.g., hydraulic), hence the name “screw”. The advantages of this type of conveyor include: ● It is simple and easy to maintain ● it can handle large bulky objects as well as smaller pieces ● It has a high capacity ● There are no seals or lubrication required Spiral conveyors ● Moving materials or people up and down stairs ● Transporting materials and people horizontally One of the most common types of conveyors, spiral conveyors are versatile machines that can be used to transport objects around a building. A spiral conveyor is an open-topped device with one or more levels of treads that move in a single direction around a central column. The object being transported moves along these treads through their own weight and gravity, driven by rollers at either end. Spiral units are typically powered by electric motors located near the center of rotation.
  • 8. Vertical conveyors A vertical conveyor is a mechanical device that is used to transport materials from one point to another. Vertical conveyors are typically used for transporting heavy loads, such as steel and cement. These types of systems are designed with several different components, including a drive motor, chain or belt and supporting structure. The drive motor provides the energy required to move the load vertically through the system. The chain or belt runs over several pulleys at different points along its length and transfers this motion down into a lower conveyor belt that moves items horizontally across factory floors or warehouse and storage areas. Vibrating conveyors Vibrating conveyors are used in a variety of industries, including food, pharmaceutical and chemical. They are typically used to transport powders, granules and other materials. Vibrating conveyors are often used in the pharmaceutical industry to transport drugs during production or packaging processes. In this case, the vibrating motion helps break up larger pieces into smaller pieces so they can be easily dispensed into vials or syringes at the end of their journey down a pipeline. There are many options for different types of conveying systems. There are many options for different types of conveying systems. Conveyors can be used in numerous industries and applications, including: ● Food production ● Mining ● Shipping and receiving operations ● Waste management facilities The most important thing is to choose a system that works best for your company, whether it be an electric-driven roller or a gravity skate wheel.
